    In my opinion, the MOST NEEDED award that they need, is Vocal Performance. In the age we're at in film, this could encapsulate the likes of CGI characters, animated characters, etc. It would allow for more recognition of animation as a medium, and maybe encourage studios to actually hire voices rather than names *cough* Garfield and Mario *cough*

    • @BirdsandGhibliFan
      @BirdsandGhibliFan 6 месяцев назад +38

      Yes, totally! 👍 After watching Robert Pattinson’s performance as the Heron in “The Boy And The Heron” and even Hailee Steinfeld’s performance as Gwen Stacy in “Across The Spider-Verse”, I felt like they should’ve added a Best Voiceover Performance. Also, I agree with your point that it would incentivize studios to hire veteran voice actors or at least talented enough people to voice act, as well as give veteran voice actors recognition at the Oscars.

    "The Boy and The Heron" winning Best Animated Feature also stands out because (I'm pretty sure, correct me if I'm wrong) it's the first PG-13 animated film to win that award!
    Edit: Ok, so apparently this movie broke a lot of ground in the animation industry. Here's a summary of the achievements:
    First PG-13 Movie to ever win the award for Best Animated Feature
    Second 2D animated film to win this award (the first being "Spirited Away" in 2002)
    Second Japanese film to win this award (The first, again, being "Spirited Away" in 2002)
    Second Studio Ghibli film to win this award (do I even need to say who the first one was? Lol)
    That's really impressive!

      Yeah, I understand wanting Lily Gladstone to win, but saying that Emma Stone won 7 years ago as an excuse for disqualification and bringing race into it was a major cope in my opinion. Also, your hypothetical question for Best Animated Feature is so spot-on. On a side-note, I really like “The Boy And The Heron” and I am glad that it won Best Animated Feature, but even as a big Ghibli/Miyazaki fan myself, I disagree that it’s Miyazaki’s best film since “Spirited Away”. I personally think “Castle In The Sky” is miles better and is criminally underrated in terms of its thematic depth.

Spending half a movie playing a more withdrawn character sick in bed doesn't give you much to work with, even if I thought she did a great job. I think a lot of people wanted her to win as the first indigenous American to win best actress, but whether you think that would be a symbol of the racism of low expectations, or degrading the purpose of the Oscars is a more personal matter.

    As a Ukrainian, I am extremely disappointed and saddened by the lack of mention of the first Ukrainian Oscar win ever. 20 Days in Mariupol won the Best Documentary Feature Film. This film documents the destruction and death brought by Russia to Ukraine during the Battle of Mariupol. And this win means a lot for our nation in a time when we battle for survival.
    This victory was cut out of the international short version of the Oscars. Last year, the documentary category wasn't cut from the short version, so this was a deliberate decision this year. Maybe they decided that exposing Russian war crimes would ruin the jolly mood of the ceremony. Who knows, but this feels like a deliberate erasure.
    Mstyslav Chernov's director acceptance speech was absolutely heartbreaking. He said that he wishes he never had to make this film.

    It's so sad that no one talks about documentaries and 20 days in Mariupol. If you haven't seen the acceptance speech, you should watch it, it's very touching. And the audacity that the Oscars cut it out from the broadcast is crazy. They've let the director say whatever he wanted to trick us into thinking that Oscars are really pro free speech, just to silence him by cutting the whole nomination out of their broadcast. More people should know about this! 😢

      Much like the Pandora's box Godzilla Minus One opened, having a stunts category would just be rewarding the most dangerous stunts (like how Sound and Editing just go to the movie with the most Editing and the loudest movie). It would put the stunt workers in more dangerous situations which would inevitably lead to people dying, just so they can get an Oscar.
