4:01 actually, Nintendo sort of didn't approve this. If testimonials from the people involved are to be believed, literally no one wanted to make this film, including the people that initially did. Nintendo actually tried to stop the film from being released, but the studio strong armed them into signing off.
Nintendo actually didn't care about the making of a movie and just let the makers do whatever they wanted up until production at Disney actually begun where it was too late to cancel anything so they tried to make it more kid friendly and all the cast and crew hated having to change plans every five minutes.
One of the funniest things about this video is that the city's set design was one of the few things they complimented, which is probably because it was originally made for Blade Runner and they just reused it here. The movie's best qualities dont even belong to it.
I ironically like this movie. The cast was great but they were all absolutely hammered when they were making this film because the husband and wife directors were ridiculously hard to work with and unreasonable. I do love Bob Hoskins, John Liguizamo, and Dennis Hopper though.
I forgot this movie existed and that Nintendo approved it. This is the type of movie you sit down with a group of friends and just make fun of it. This movie was such a mistake and genuinely confuses me. This movie makes me wanna slam my face into a brick wall because it is that bad😂
Let me just remind everyone that this movie is the reason why Mario's canonical last name is Mario Mario's full name is Mario Jumpman Mario legally Luigi's full name is Luigi Mario because of this movie no one thought about it but it has been in place since day one they are called the Mario Brothers
10:44 when I heard that,I turned to one of my walls like there was a camera there(I think it’s called the “tv filming” phenomenon, where when you hear something dumb, you turn to a random wall in your house)
I think you guys should check out the story behind this movie as well. Hopkins and Leguizamo drinking whiskey during filming, an ever changing script, the original plan of having the dance club scene in a strip club, and the main directors being so utterly inhuman that they burned an extra with coffee and tried to change the movie so far that it strayed from it's source. The Gaming Historian covers a good amount of it and you guys should watch through that now that you've experienced this film. It even has hilarious quotes from Leguizamo and both the late Bob Hoskins and Dennis Hopper.
I think it would be amazing if the new Mario movie manages to be worse and it’s entirely possible. Also not that it makes the movie any better whatsoever but Bowser is simply “Koopa” in Japan.

10:03 This is kinda what happened. The person making the movie wanted to make the "Definitive Mario universe" and had total disregard for the material on the games. He made a script and just slapped mario names in wherever he could.
Bro we all know this movie’s bad, but it’s a fungus filled masterpiece filled with laughs, weirdness, and “monkey!”
Bren’s reaction to the goombas is PRICELESS
This was the first movie that came to mind when I found this channel. I didn't ask for it cause it was so obscure I didn't think anyone wanted it. I can rest now
I love how Josiah’s little voiceovers sounded like an auto generated bot voice 😆
I’m a firm believer, that despite what it may seem, Illumination can’t possibly do worse than this.
what are your thoughts now on that?
@@Charles12 Personally, I did and still do think the same way!
@@damienearl8302 nah the movie will be excellent.
@@creedecriswell634 ...I'm not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that, considering I had quite a bit of faith in the movie, even early on-
@@damienearl8302 it’s ok!!
4:20 I have news for Bren, Luigi has always been the younger brother. Mario’s the oldest.
Aren’t they twins? Isn’t Mario only older by like a few seconds?
@@TheTeraFurret yea but marios still the older brother not luigi
"The nonconsensual romance, my favorite part of *m a r i o*"
That... that was the whole plot of both Odyssey and Sunshine.
My older cousins rented this and forced me to watch this 20 years ago bc it came out before I was born. I remember most of this movie despite only seeing it once. That means it became a core childhood memory. I hate that.
6:10 Funny enough my dad showed me this movie and ig he watched it as a kid and he said "After this movie your going to be differnet" 💀
5:02 man just no clipped to the backrooms
What about yesclipped?
@@I_also_like_sirens_hehewhat about maybeclipped?
At least Charlie Day feels like a good celebrity actor for Luigi.
Microwave Society as Dinosaurs
Cast:
Jude: Tyrannosaurus Rex
Josiah: Stegosaurus
Bren: Triceratops
The look on Jude’s face when King Koopa said “You’re so fresh” was reaction based comedy at its finest
11:15 DUDE WHY ARE THE TWIN TOWERS HERE
this movie is what was clogging a toilet that mario and luigi had to unclog
4:01 actually, Nintendo sort of didn't approve this. If testimonials from the people involved are to be believed, literally no one wanted to make this film, including the people that initially did. Nintendo actually tried to stop the film from being released, but the studio strong armed them into signing off.
Nintendo actually didn't care about the making of a movie and just let the makers do whatever they wanted up until production at Disney actually begun where it was too late to cancel anything so they tried to make it more kid friendly and all the cast and crew hated having to change plans every five minutes.
🤓
2:37 I thought this was footage from a bad the land before time tie in game for the game boy color
This is the kinda movie you’d see in a hotel room tv late at night and the next day it’s just Battleship on a 23 hour loop
Luigi Mario is such an incredible name
Almost as incredible as Schid da Swath
10:59 this did kinda happen in super Mario odyssey with bowser and peach.
I love how everything in their studio has a red tint
One of the funniest things about this video is that the city's set design was one of the few things they complimented, which is probably because it was originally made for Blade Runner and they just reused it here. The movie's best qualities dont even belong to it.
Fun fact: Luigi is actually the younger brother, he’s just taller
Your New Yorker accent is actually really good
This is why Nintendo is making a new one so you forget about this one
When you started the sponsor segment, I jokingly thought “lol imagine raid shadow legends sponsorship”
and then
Luigi is the younger brother. Always has been.
i watched this shortly after experiencing a severe depressive episode and in that moment it was the greatest film i had ever watched
by "this" i mean the movie. i was so enraptured by the fungus
I love how you predicted the Mario movie being by Chris Pratt being Mario and it being by illumination
2:14 just in case if you want to skip the sponsor (;
Thanks
You're a god
Thanks for sparing me 0:43
I absolutely loved this movie cause it was like the only one I had growing up and it's burned into my mind as "GOOD"
I initially liked it when I first saw it just because it was a Mario movie. Idk about now, it's been a while since I've watched it.
You guys are awesome! You bring laughter to my life every time I watch your videos!
They made Luigi, Mario’s younger brother, his son.
no they made Luigi his much younger brother by 15 years, who Mario has raised like a son
Fun fact: the actors for Mario and Luigi knew this would not be the best movie.
10:19 SMG 4 in a nutshell
If you want another movie with Bob Hoskins (the guy who plays Mario), then I suggest “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”
If you want another movie with John then check out the Ice age series or Encanto
I ironically like this movie. The cast was great but they were all absolutely hammered when they were making this film because the husband and wife directors were ridiculously hard to work with and unreasonable. I do love Bob Hoskins, John Liguizamo, and Dennis Hopper though.
I didn't realise that Mario wears green and Luigi wears red for 70% of this movie
For those who came to this video later, the old thumbnail was Brendan laughing at Mario being Thanos snapped
I forgot this movie existed and that Nintendo approved it. This is the type of movie you sit down with a group of friends and just make fun of it. This movie was such a mistake and genuinely confuses me. This movie makes me wanna slam my face into a brick wall because it is that bad😂
this movie goes into the "6 pack list" along with howard the duck and tusks
I really wanted to see them react to the fact that their last name is Mario. Mario Mario and his brother Luigi Mario
The only thing I picked up in this movie is that Bowser is a politician
Let me just remind everyone that this movie is the reason why Mario's canonical last name is Mario Mario's full name is Mario Jumpman Mario legally Luigi's full name is Luigi Mario because of this movie no one thought about it but it has been in place since day one they are called the Mario Brothers
10:44 when I heard that,I turned to one of my walls like there was a camera there(I think it’s called the “tv filming” phenomenon, where when you hear something dumb, you turn to a random wall in your house)
2:54 GOODBYE DINOSAURS!
The part where Bowser destroys the Twin Towers is cursed
3:22 No...Prince Peasley's going to hatch from the egg obviously😅
It was actually good.
This movie, though, is amazing.
Fun fact: the actors actually hated the movie and the time spent filming. The actors of Mario and Luigi were sometimes even drunk on set. Also if you ve watched the mario movie, you gotta watch The Wizard. A commercial in disguise for nintendos power glove, A commercial failure but pop culture icon.
3:08 sounds like every Alex Jones podcast
6:33 😂 it’s the “FAIRIES” for me
8:07 if there’s an option for advanced CANT THEY JUST FUCKING USE THAT TO ADVANCE FURTHER TO BE BETTER AT STUFF???
Also there’s just a option for *primordial*
