  • @rallytonight8491
    @rallytonight8491 4 года назад +60

    I do think Roald Dahl would have liked “James and the Giant Peach”. The reason he didn’t like “Willy Wonka” was because it was too light and magical compared to the intended darker feeling of the story, not because he thought it was a bad film. Both Tim Burton’s “James” and “Charlie” films have the feel that Dahl originally would have wanted, so he probably would have liked both.

      @@ShanyShannon The Nightmare before Christmas is Tim Burton's idea, that's why. Even thou he couldn't directed it. Even thou Tim was involved with James, it doesn't feel like a Tim Burton film. Thus Henry does deserve more credit.

    Animat 2 things
    1. Ty for this list i hope we all get to see more of selick's work.
    2. You realized that the reason why he didn't like willy wonka and the chocolate factory ( and this can be justified) is because that made huge changes to the book without his permission i understand if you and other people love that movie but it wasn't faithful to the book heck they changed the name because of the Vietnam War.
    P.s animat please don't take this the wrong way as a reader most movies based on books can't capture the heart of the book some even insult the author and fans of the book, but as a movie it's a fun family film if you made a book or even a movie and somebody takes it and changed it too the point where they ruin the meaning of why it made it so great I'm sure you be very angry like roald dahl too.
    My bad if its too long and preachy.

    The completely funny thing about Roald Dahl hating Willy Wonka is that he wrote it.

      Actually, that's not true. He was originally brought on to write the screenplay for the movie, but got kicked out of it when he failed to meet deadlines, therefore having no control of the finished product.

      +David Heald close, but bit quite. They hired another writer to revise and edit the script heavily, adding things like the gob stopper subplot, the fizzy lifting drink and infamous YOU LOSE! scene etc..

    No love for Slow Bob in the Lower Dimensions? I'm totally in love with that film. Whatever flaws there are, it's a beautifully unique little world he created.

    I remember seeing Coraline as a kid. It was freaky but I still liked it, unfortunately it really freaked my Mum out and she forbid me from seeing it until I was 12. 16 now and I still love the movie.

    I get why Roald Dahl didn't like movie adaptions as I am very unforgiving when it comes to adapting books to movies (Don't hate me but I'm not a big fan of the later Harry Potter movies because they changed so much, also fun fact the writers room was biased as the guy in charge of the scripts' favourite character was Hermione and he gave a lot of Harry's smart ideas to Hermione)
