I have very sad news for you stop-motion lovers, our legend Will Vinton just died recently. I don't know the cause nor when, but he is no longer with us. May we have his beautiful works of art to remember him by, and may his legacy rest in our memories forever.

It's so crazy to see how other people appreciate Vinton's work. My grandma actually worked for him. She has tapes with almost all of the shorts, commercials, etc. She said she was 10 feet from MJ but didn't bother to approach him because she wasn't obcessed with him.

Moonwalker's creation has always been a fascinating story - there was a lot of spirited collaboration from the artists involved, and lots of legendary names of filmmaking, SFX and animation worked on the various segments. The project was pretty ahead of its time, and wouldn't be out of place in today's media landscape.

Yeah that's what pisses me off about the critics. They bashed that movie just because they compared it to the "original" while saying it's too dark. That is a stupid move because The Wizard of Oz is a book series first, then a movie. In fact , 15:38 best describes my feelings towards them.

Another thing to note about Vinton is how he tried to make a stage musical about The Frog Prince, based on a Claymation project that his old company came up with years ago. However, the funding page (which I believe was on Kickstarter) did not meet the goal required and seems to have been scrapped.

I like 20th better, so "not everyone"... you explained what you were talking about in this reply (I didn't even understand the first reply as it was vague to me but I have never gotten into Michael Jackson that much or video games or claymations of him, although, some of his songs were really beautiful. I guess you are yelling? because of the opinion of another youtube patron that likes to express their self in comments. truthfully, and no offence, but saying "You're not letting me have my own opinions!!!!!!!!!!! Oh My God!!!!!!!!" reminds me of an exercise in "Anger Management" Psychologists, overall agree that saying "You are not letting me" or when you are mad at someone saying "You "made" me feel this way" is self defeating. They warn us that nobody "makes YOU" and a better way to carry on a conversation and express what you are feeling is to merely say "that made ME feel." The way the 20th century is seemingly going to the wayside through advertising POs me to the max too. But I have to exercise my "equanimity." Equanimity is a word I learned while googling some feelings of my own LOL. Turns out it is the most honored and difficult seven-fold accomplishment in Buddhism (most people think Buddhism is a religion but it really is more than that ~more a way of life and for very large crowded populations with problems, viola, youtube, facebook, and now all the internet has become ad oriented and they all sem to have "very large crowded populations with problems" You seem like a great person. Don't let the evolution of mankind's poor choices effect you in a negative way to make you filled with anger." ahhh I do notice a lot of folk in replies are angry. We all need to agree to disagree and enjoy our lives instead of wasting precious time bickering in comments/replies on youtube. The practice of being "equanimous" or having "equanimity" as we witness life, war, love, death all around us will help us all be able to "live and let live" not "live and let die" (never did like Wings lol ;) ~Peace out Kieran Stark

My favorite of Will Vinton's animation projects is Dinosaurs! A Fun-Filled Trip Back in Time. I saw it on a video tape multiple times in my childhood, and it was second only to The Land Before Time and its sequels in my favorite dinosaur videos. I think I saw some of Will Vinton's work on Sesame Street as well, but this dinosaur project was definitely my favorite. I am also thankful to Will Vinton's studio for giving a start to Craig Bartlett to create Hey Arnold!, one of my sixteen favorite animated television series. Because there were two things I already liked about Will Vinton, I decided I might as well watch The Adventures of Mark Twain. I will accept that movie as a tribute to Mark Twain, but it can get boring at times, and since Dallas McKennon is the only voice actor I legitimately know, I find the voice cast questionable. The same goes for Closed Mondays. I don't recognize the man's voice, and the story can get boring.

OK, I literally LOL'd at your dive bombing. "Dont ask! Michael Jackson's in charge!"
People talk about the retrospective Moonwalker as a "vanity project". i don't agree with that assessment AT ALL. Michael was a known Disney/animation fan. I think he enjoyed the idea of exploring those mediums and his own life and work was a great palette for that. And I always thought of Smooth Criminal as Michael Jackson as his idea as a superhero, not really for vanity's sake, again. Or maybe it is, but that doesn't mean it wasn't visionary.

Laika, the company that Jan Pinvanka was one of the key people to form after he left Pixar when he was replaced by Brad Bird as director of Ratatouille, because the Pixar producers thought that Pinkava's progression with the story didn't go so well (he's still got credited as Co-Director due to the main elements and the main story is still in the movie while Bird fixed all the story flaws). Pinkava directed the short film Geri's Game which was shown before A Bug's Life in the theatres and to this day included with all home media as a bonus feature and part of the Pixar Shorts DVD.
Lou Romano, the voice of Alfredo Linguini in Ratatouille, Bernie Kropp in The Incredibles (of which he was te Production Designer for) and Snot Rod in Cars, left Pixar after working on up as Art Director for Lighting and joined Laika where is still today.

Hi :) I remember another Claymation film. I thought it was titled something like "Evolution of Rock and Roll" and a long time ago it was on youtube. I thought maybe it was the one on here called "Mountain Music" ~the Claymation lady on this short film looks just like the lady on this evolution of rock short film. Sure would like it if you knew what one I am talking about and can find it! This film of short films is where I saw Closed Mondays and I could swear that the "evolution of rock" (whatever it is called, something like that anyway) was included in it. That rock and roll evolution Claymation short film was my favorite one of all except maybe the one with Cat Steven's song Moon Shadow. :) thanks for the memories! Still searching! You have an incredible knowledge of this history! Hope you know which one I am talking about and can get it back up here!

To be honest, the "Don't Ask, Michael Jackson." is a strange thing to say. An oddly equivalent to saying if something isn't understood in science, we can say "God did it." (i guess MJ of the gaps here, lol) Over exaggerated comparison, but you. I mean, yeah, the movie was weird, but if you look at it carefully, it isn't a film in the traditional sense, even MJ didn't want to treat it as such, it was an innovation to him. This is really just a collection of ideas brought to life by camera as way for Michael to express his artistic vision and over the top imagination while enjoying his success and poking fun at his success and at the media coverage of his life. I did get a bit of a negative vibe to the review of the film, which is understandable, but I do believe the film is sometimes underrated. Besides that I do think your "documentary", as I like to look at these animation lookbacks since they are so well made, on Will's contribution to stop motion animation was done rightly.
