35 years from their first Grand Day Out, Wallace and Gromit have still got it. This story is easily one of their best, and Feathers McGraw is one of Aardman's best villains.
In an era when Disney has given up on classic movie villains, Aardman provides with Feathers McGraw. Who would've thought a penguin could be so delightfully sinister.
In an age where AI is getting more attention, mostly for worse, it is about time that there is a film where Wallace and Gromit tackles on faulty AI and I applaud Aardman for writing this specific story featuring these already perfect characters.
To be fair, compared to the others, the Wallace and Gromit franchise isn’t really built on continuity. Sure they do include a few visual nods to their previous adventures in the background, But the franchise is more about the two charming and lovable characters themselves rather than one whole narrative. Each of their adventures can act as their own standalone film. So the term “sequel“ in the case of Wallace and Gromit is very loose.
Also, happy 25th anniversary to “Chicken Run“ and happy 10th anniversary to “Shaun the Sheep Movie”. Man, 2025 really does mark a commemorative year for Aardman!
@arbytv5139 You remember every movies. I watched Chicken run 2 last year and eventually the Vengeance Most Foal. Its good to Wallace and Gromit again in big screen Its been so long. My childhood is coming back again
Welcome back to animation after a WHOLE decade to our beloved stop-motion duo, Wallace and Gromit!!! I just watched the movie on Netflix this afternoon with my dad!!! It was SUCH a great movie to watch!!!
11:32 - 12:59 I understand the controversial casting choice of Ben Whitehead voicing Wallace since Peter Sallis retired and died since 2017. May Peter Sallis Rest in Peace. 🙏🏻 🕯 Anyways, I gotta say that Ben Whitehead does sound very identical to Peter Sallis's performance and he does captured the charm of the original Wallace that we all know and loved. His performance is way better than Thandiwe Newton's voice as Ginger who sounds nothing like Julia Sawalha's Ginger.
@@Roadent1241so glad someone mentioned this! Ben does a FANTASTIC job here. Midway through, I forgot this wasn’t the original Wallace. Loved this movie
@@Roadent1241 A benefit to the hiatus after Sallis retired really. By the time they finally got to work on a new film, they had an understudy with plenty experience.
This was absolutely a breath of fresh air after the mediocre “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget”, with the villain’s revenge plot point feeling necessary and less controversial acting. As well as being as good as “The Curse of the Were-Rabbit”, in terms of Aardman’s sequels, this can also be on par with “A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon”. It’s good to see Nick Park’s old friends return for an encore.
Christmas day for me was truly made better when the BBC aired this and I'm so glad Aardman didn't disappoint. There is a little nod to the late Peter Sallis in this movie via the flat cap and brown coat you see on the hook by their front door, referencing the second character in Sallis' career that he was most known for, Clegg from the long running BBC Sitcom 'Last Of The Summer Wine'. Ben Whitehouse was superb and I very quickly forgot it was him and not Sallis.
What happens when you combine Cape Fear and Wallace And gromit with a garden gnome? You get one amazing feature film!! Vengeance most Fowl is probably the best Aardman film since Curse of the were rabbit. With very fun and surprisingly thought provoking story, Animation that’s still beautiful to watch, and lovable characters old and new. Plus, Feathers McGraw is still as conniving as he was years ago. Definitely a 9.5/10. Honestly, I would be down for more Wallace and gromit adventures after this. Or does anyone think AARDMAN should do something original?
This is technically a 2024 film since it released in theaters at the end of the year, so this will be Animat's third year in a row where his #1 Best is a Netflix movie and the #1 Best and #1 Worst of 2024 will both be Netflix
After watching the duo's grand return, I am so glad to see Aardman back in the spotlight again after the critical disappointments of Early Man and Dawn of the Nugget. Not to say I hate those films, but they do feel dull and safe compared to the studio's superior projects. Thankfully, Vengeance Most Fowl proves that when Aardman has zero executive meddling, the better the feature will become in the final end. As a fan of the Wallace and Gromit franchise, this put a huge smile on me from start to end. I was highly engaged by its story, which serves as a solid follow-up to The Wrong Trousers, fast-paced animation, endearing characters, humor that caught me laughing hard, and Lorne Balfe going all in on the whimsical score. Now the question, which is better? Either this or Curse of the Were Rabbit. To be honest, why not both? They both brought me with suspense, had myself chuckling, and brought my mind in awe with how they don't become too serious, but in the end it is all lighthearted fun. 🧀🧀🧀
14:28 Fun fact, Officer Mackintosh isn't the only character to return from Curse Of The Were-Rabbit. Many of the townspeople from that movie make a return, specifically Mrs, Mulch, Mr and Mrs Windfall, Mr. Caliche, and Mr. Leaching, the latter of which was voiced by Ben Whitehead before he started voicing Wallace. We even get a cameo by the Farmer from Shaun The Sheep, which makes sense since Shaun was introduced in the third short film, A Close Shave, making his spin-off series technically canon to the Wallace And Gromit universe.
Yeah, Ben Whitehead does a very good job as Wallace. He's definitely doing Peter Sallis a lot of justice, much like how Khary Payton did Robert Guillaume justice when he took over as Rafiki for The Lion Guard, so kudos to him.
Honestly my main complaint with the film is how plot conventional the gnomes turning evil was, like gnorbot had to annoy Gromit and Gromit had to plug him specifically in Wallace's pc and Feathers somehow knew he could hack the gnomes by accessing the security room pc (which somehow can access Wallaces pc?) I think a better idea would have been for Wallace to explain on TV how his gnomes can remotely communicate with each other using a radio device he built. Feathers would have then stolen a Radio and some sort of game-boy from zoo visitors and then used them to make a remote hacking device
I was disappointing the ending how they letting Feather escaped and PC Mac isn't much helped than he was in Cause of the Rabbit. I hate gnomes they creepy as heck..
I mean, sure, but even in the movie, it was framed as Feathers seeing that the function was going on and deciding to have a little fun, taking advantage of this new feature he had open to him. He still had access to Wallace's files and house security, and would have probably improvised another solution to bust out and get the diamond, or make Wallace's life living hell.
Feathers McGraw really felt like an old classical Disney villain that Modern Disney couldn't match up anymore, and the movie was really enjoyable and great.
Does Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl count as animated film 🎥 for 2024 or 2025? The release dates are very confusing 😕. It was released in the BBC TV 📺 channel on the UK 🇬🇧 since December 25 last month while Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl was released recently today in Netflix on America 🇺🇸
What a cracking return that is well worth the wait!! It’s a great idea to make a continuation of Wrong Trousers to show what Feathers can do more in order to get revenge. I already love Norbot since he delivered some funny jokes, and the animation is fantastic. I wish the best of luck for Aardman to see if this will win Best Animated feature this year
Ngl, it’s funny you used the clip from the video game Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures by Telltale Games because I’ve been rewatching walkthroughs of that game lately to prep myself to watch this film. Speaking of the game, admittedly I find it a disappointment that none of the characters made for that game like Major Crum, Miss Flit, Mr. Pavery or Mrs Gabberly make any cameo appearances in this film. You could argue the game was by Telltale Games and isn’t really canon to the main Wallace & Gromit universe from Aardman, but it would’ve been nice to see either of them making cameo appearances as Easter Eggs to the game.
I remember seeing the original shorts in school and The Curse of the Were-Rabbit when it first came out in theatres. So it's safe to say that Wallace and Gromit was a big part of my childhood. I am going to watch this movie tonight and I even rewatched Curse of the Were-Rabbit to prepare myself for this. Now the question for now is is this going got be on the list of the Best/Worst Animated Films of 2024 or 2025? Whichever it is, it looks like this will be the best animated film on either list.
Hmm. Good question. 🤔 On the one hand, this is the first animated review of this year, so this could count as the first animated film of 2025, but on the other hand this review was uploaded before his Top 5 List of the Best and Worst Animated Films of 2024 and he did bring up the film at the end of his previous Top 5 Best and Worst list when giving his brief thoughts on the then upcoming animated films of last year and it was released in Christmas in the UK that it could still qualify as a 2024 animated film to be on the list. Plus, it’d feel weird if he gave his brief thoughts again on this film when going over the upcoming animated films of this year AFTER having already reviewed it.
I really liked this movie felt like the old ones and i took myself laughing so many times, such a great movie, and I actually thought i was gonna hate the gorm, but i actually end up liking him really much. im so glad how it turned out
You kinda covered this when talking about scale, but I want to highlight just HOW MANY characters and models are in this film. Curse of the Were-Rabbit is the only one with anywhere near the amount of characters. None of the other shorts even come close. Just imagine how hard scenes were with the entire crowd clamoring at Wallace's door in Onya's report. All those people talking at once to animate. All those mouth pieces to move... Also, speaking of characters, I wonder... how did Mackintosh get so old!? No-one else aged since Were-Rabbit. Not even Gromit, a dog. Yet Mackintosh has fully grey hair now where nothing was grey in Were-Rabbit. Guess his hair dye experiment went wrong lol! Or maybe it just hit him all at once. If I wanted to be cruel, I'd ask which chase scene was your favourite: the model train from the Wrong Trousers or the barges from VMF. But both are amazing in their own ways. One a fast-paced jokey finale, and the other a slower sequence devoted to wrapping up plot points and a huge character development moment for Wallace and the cops.
Wallace and Gromit is my childhood! My uncle Jim showed me the shorts and then curse of the where rabbit came out and I saw it in theaters! Their last film with the bread came out when I was 11 years old. Watching their new movie was pure nostalgia for me! Especially seeing hidden details from their old movies! It was perfection!!! I cannot wait to see more of their movies!
This was a HUGE improvement over Dawn of the Nugget. My only nitpick is that Fluffles from A Matter of Loaf and Death isn't in it, unless this is somehow a prequel to that short (at least, that's how I view it), but outside of that, this movie was definitely worth the wait.
I think Fluffles somehow went with a new owner being Lady Tottington (from The Curse of the Were Rabbit) following the events of A Matter of Loaf and Death.
Way to go Wallace, gromit and especially Norbot for delivering another masterpiece since the curse of the were rabbit it’s been so long but I’m happily glad the wait is surprisingly worth it! 😉 Job well done lads hmm hmm! 🙂👍 9/10
In the Simpsons episode Angry Dad the Movie, there is a parody of Wallace and Gromit(Willice and Crumble)who both have a Gnome service which goes haywire.... The Simpsons have yet again predicted the Future.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love this movie now that I’ve seen it. but there is one question that still lingers in my head after watching it; what happened to Fluffles? Seriously, she doesn’t appear in this movie, nor is she at least mentioned or acknowledged via photo. However, it is possible that this does take place between “The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” and “A Matter of Loaf and Death”. And thanks to gathering up some evidence, the ladder is a highly likely theory. I guess I just want some closure on the matter. If you have any theories of your own, I’m open to hearing them in the replies.
I think Fluffles went to be with her new owner being Lady Tottington (from The Curse of the Were Rabbit) following the events of A Matter of Loaf and Death.
@@JayPalOfficial even though I’m sticking to my theory that this takes place between “were rabbit” and “loaf and death“, that idea doesn’t really sound far-fetched.
@ it really isn't to be honest, just a theory of mine. I wouldn't mind seeing a spinoff movie featuring Lady Tottington, Fluffles and PC Mukherjee (the young rookie from Vengeance Most Fowl).
Oops, big mistake at 12.30 you said Ben Whitehead had nailed Wallace's "Yorkshire accent" when W&G are famously from Lancashire and there have been several references to the rivalry between the two counties in the W&G animations.
I would watch this over Dawn of The Nugget since we didn't see feathers die in wrong trousers...also looking at that teapot in background isn't gonna be the same.
Me & my mom literally just finished Vengeance Most Fowl not too long ago, and after 16 years since their last appearance in A Matter Of Loaf And Death, it feels so good to have Wallace & Gromit back and still charming as ever!😸 The story was hilarious for me personally, cause like Gromit, I hate garden gnomes & think they’re f****** evil!😈(And yes, Feathers McGraw’s return was so much better than Mrs. Tweedy’s!🐧) The animation’s proof that Aardman still are one of the masters of stop-motion, and Ben Whitehead’s performance as Wallace truly did make me feel like Peter Sallis was still here with us! (May he rest in peace…💙) With this film being so far the best thing that happened at the start of 2025, Aardman’s greatest creations definitely deserve a 9/10!🐶
I loved how Wallace was like he learned that his smart gnome robot is not as good or faithful as his good dog Gromit, he even acknowledges that he can live without inventing or the gnome, but he can’t live without Gromit. Also wow in the Wrong Trousers I thought they returned the Diamond, never thought that Feathers McGraw would have hidden it in Wallace’s teapot and etc. that was pretty smart of the penguin to pull the wool over the police and etc. If they make Wallace and Gromit and chicken run take same place, it would be something if Feathers McGraw tries to kill Wallace and Gromit, then maybe Ginger can save them, although I suppose Wallace will need more rescuing than Gromit as Gromit is usually more competent and Wallace is usually the eccentric inventor but he is usually absentminded and etc.
Yeah, I saw this today on Netflix and near the beginning when Norbot was being introduced, Wallace was a total bastard to Gromit believing the gnome robot was way better than his dog
Wallace's love of cheese is a recurring theme in all the W&G animations, it was the driving force behind him building a rocket to go to the moon in their first appearance in A Grand Day Out because everyone knows that the moon is made of cheese.
I truly had an cracking' time when I saw the return of Wallace & Gromit on the next big adventure with Vengeance Most Foul especially since I loved and grew-up Aardman's three Oscar-Winning original animated short films, I have to be honest that I truly enjoy and liked 'Chicken Run Dawn Of The Nugget' despite people criticism on that film since I appreciate what Aardman were making before they would bring back the duo Wallace & Gromit.
Wallace and grommit should never stop having scary and uncanny moments Childhood nightmare fuel is great to have The Wallace and grommit game outtakes are pretty much a celebrated même at this point

I didn’t really find this one that good. A lot of the characters like the policemen didn’t feel integral to the story, the way Wallace’s character was handled didn’t feel like they really understood his relation to Gromit, the plot choices felt unwarranted (the gnomes not stealing the teapot and taking it with them to McGraw is a great example) and it felt like 75% of the movie was nostalgia pandering.
I like how the movie even feels like a take on Aardman's stance on technological assistance. It's clearly advanced and helped them over the years, but let them still take their time with their craft. Aardman even had an era they took 'short cuts' and used CGI to emulate claymation, and I feel like them going back to the original format now is them saying it's not quite the same. SPOILERS: The ending does not throw Norbot or Wallace's other inventions in the trash, and I kinda like that nuance. They still have a purpose but it shouldn't deprive people of their agency. A human touch is important. It's about moderation, letting methods advance without forgetting the old ways.
I take it this will likely be the top of the 2024 best list instead of The Wild Robot? If I remember correctly that had 27 points tied with Inside Out 2 and this has 28/30
that scene at the end of chicken run 2 with feathers McGraw in it is like the freaking Kaiju fight scene where death is in the background of puss in boots 2 *is that symbolism* /j

Now the question for now is is this going got be on the list of the Best/Worst Animated Films of 2024 or 2025? Whichever it is, it looks like this will be the best animated film on either list.
Hmm. Good question. 🤔
On the one hand, this is the first animated review of this year, so this could count as the first animated film of 2025, but on the other hand this review was uploaded before his Top 5 List of the Best and Worst Animated Films of 2024 and he did bring up the film at the end of his previous Top 5 Best and Worst list when giving his brief thoughts on the then upcoming animated films of last year and it was released in Christmas in the UK that it could still qualify as a 2024 animated film to be on the list.
Nice to start off the year with the animat seal of approval 😊😊😊
Wallace and Gromit is my childhood! My uncle Jim showed me the shorts and then curse of the where rabbit came out and I saw it in theaters! Their last film with the bread came out when I was 11 years old. Watching their new movie was pure nostalgia for me! Especially seeing hidden details from their old movies! It was perfection!!! I cannot wait to see more of their movies!
Loved this film! I hope they do continue to make more, even if I have to wait another 10-20 years!
Excellent Review, nice job making this as perusual with your every video AniMat!
Loved this! I watched it on Christmas Day on BBC ONE!
I’m glad they make a comeback after all these years and I hope you do a classic review of Farmageddon a Sean the sheep movie
no joke.. the farmer cameo got me in shambles lmao
Okay, I could see that as a possibility.
In the climax we get a cameo of another Aardman character who owns a dog.
Way to go Wallace, gromit and especially Norbot for delivering another masterpiece since the curse of the were rabbit it’s been so long but I’m happily glad the wait is surprisingly worth it! 😉
Job well done lads hmm hmm! 🙂👍 9/10
this has got to be the best one yet
I really love them so much I'm very glad they are really back now
hope to see more in the near future
In the Simpsons episode Angry Dad the Movie, there is a parody of Wallace and Gromit(Willice and Crumble)who both have a Gnome service which goes haywire....
The Simpsons have yet again predicted the Future.
Not to mention, the villain of this short is a parrot, who's supposed to be based on Feathers McGraw. Yup, another prediction came true.
Matt Groening is actually friends with Nick Park.
@@paulbell3682 He must have read his mind.
(9/10) The Story
(10/10) The Animation
(8/10) The Characters
I Give Wallace and Gromit Vengeance Most Fowl (9/10) Great to See the Classic Duo Back
With all these sequels to aardman movies, I’d love to see a sequel to flushed away
scientific fact wallace and gromit can do no wrong
I would watch this over Dawn of The Nugget since we didn't see feathers die in wrong trousers...also looking at that teapot in background isn't gonna be the same.
Feathers Mcgraw is an iconic Aardman villain like Mrs Tweedy
Unlike Tweedy, Mcgraw managed to pull in surprises than to be a lackluster comeback of a villain
Me & my mom literally just finished Vengeance Most Fowl not too long ago, and after 16 years since their last appearance in A Matter Of Loaf And Death, it feels so good to have Wallace & Gromit back and still charming as ever!😸
The story was hilarious for me personally, cause like Gromit, I hate garden gnomes & think they’re f****** evil!😈(And yes, Feathers McGraw’s return was so much better than Mrs. Tweedy’s!🐧) The animation’s proof that Aardman still are one of the masters of stop-motion, and Ben Whitehead’s performance as Wallace truly did make me feel like Peter Sallis was still here with us! (May he rest in peace…💙)
With this film being so far the best thing that happened at the start of 2025, Aardman’s greatest creations definitely deserve a 9/10!🐶
I loved how Wallace was like he learned that his smart gnome robot is not as good or faithful as his good dog Gromit, he even acknowledges that he can live without inventing or the gnome, but he can’t live without Gromit.
I can’t find it on Netflix though 😕
@ odd
This movie is fantastic it's nice to see the dynamic duo in a brand new movie 👍❤❤❤❤
Well this year has started great. 3 days in and we got brittain most iconic duo coming back.
16:43 Arthur Christmas and Shaun The Sheep and it's Sequel: Am I a Bloody Joke to you?
ohhhh yes a sequel to one of the best 2000s animated films i’m so happyyy great way to start off the year also sonic 3 and best + worst of 24 when
My favourite thing was the references to last movies like the cheese one got me
Wallace's love of cheese is a recurring theme in all the W&G animations, it was the driving force behind him building a rocket to go to the moon in their first appearance in A Grand Day Out because everyone knows that the moon is made of cheese.
One of the great TV comebacks on the BBC on Xmas Day 2024 in the UK just brilliant hope for some top awards in 2025
Keep doing ur job ❤❤❤❤
I truly had an cracking' time when I saw the return of Wallace & Gromit on the next big adventure with Vengeance Most Foul especially since I loved and grew-up Aardman's three Oscar-Winning original animated short films, I have to be honest that I truly enjoy and liked 'Chicken Run Dawn Of The Nugget' despite people criticism on that film since I appreciate what Aardman were making before they would bring back the duo Wallace & Gromit.
Wallace and grommit should never stop having scary and uncanny moments
Childhood nightmare fuel is great to have
The Wallace and grommit game outtakes are pretty much a celebrated même at this point
It’s always good to see the duo going on grand adventures isn’t it?
This is the best for aardman for many years ❤
❤️💖 It is amazing 👏🏻 🤩 and great 👍🏻 to see Wallace and Gromit in their theatrical animated movie comeback since 2005 Wallace and Gromit Curse of the Were Rabbit 🐰🐇!
And Happy 20th Anniversary to Wallace and Gromit Curse of the Were Rabbit 🐰🐇 this year! 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️
SPOILERS:
The ending does not throw Norbot or Wallace's other inventions in the trash, and I kinda like that nuance. They still have a purpose but it shouldn't deprive people of their agency. A human touch is important. It's about moderation, letting methods advance without forgetting the old ways.
I take it this will likely be the top of the 2024 best list instead of The Wild Robot? If I remember correctly that had 27 points tied with Inside Out 2 and this has 28/30
that scene at the end of chicken run 2 with feathers McGraw in it is like the freaking Kaiju fight scene where death is in the background of puss in boots 2
*is that symbolism* /j
Much, muuuch better than the Chicken Run sequel.
Never stop doing movies ❤❤❤
