To give some credit to the Star, it actually does have a unique niche in "Don't Collect The Power-Up" sections. I don't believe any other powerup in the game has the property of causing Mario to fall THROUGH enemies or objects he can bounce on, making it easy to check for the collection of the item if there's say, an autoscroll, preventing Mario from running out the clock or the stage is comprised pretty much entirely of bounceable enemies. They all give i-frames, so damage boosting effectively takes up the same role. With a Fire Flower, you get two instances of 2.528 seconds of i-frames, which is roughly half the i-frames of a Star. The Star allows for enemy spam that's twice as long (or four times as long, in the case of the normal Mushroom, Link costume, any of the Hats, and possibly the SMB2 Mushroom), sure, but it's still the same case of "impossible without finding the invisible block."
"Yoshi is no powerup, Yoshi is a dinosaur" Ceave: What, who said such a stupid thing, now if you excuse me, I'm gonna rate Yoshi in the powerup tier list
The 1up is actually pretty useful in the night ground style, because it's the deadly evil zombie Mario-chasing mushroom. It stalks you and can hop up steps, putting it in the category of dangerous power ups (with any power up in a fire clown car). Also, I used it as a radar in one of my levels for tracking Mario when he's not visible on screen (like some people use moles). If this comment shows up multiple times (or at all), I've posted it three times since last week and RUclips has dutifully censored it.
The 1-up is pretty important from a level design perspective - since it's the only reward that carries over to other stages, it's the go-to prize for completing extra challenges. It probably shouldn't be considered a powerup at all, for the same reason the coins aren't.

Ceave: "The frog suit is the only item in the game that gives us free four-directional movement." P-Balloon: "Look, I know you know I'm here, because I just heard you talking about me."
I think he might have meant that it gave free movement without being super slippery? The P-Balloon seems to have some momentum you need to account for, and I didn't think the frog suit had as much momentum you have to account for, and is truly 4-directional, the p-ballon is at least 8 directional and technically more
Personally, my favorite power ups are the propeller box and POW mask. I love how many ways you can create new levels and challenges with the POW, and the fact that it can only be used 3 times adds a unique rationing aspect to it. The propeller box gives you all of the flying abilities of the propeller mushroom, but also adds the fact that you can use it 3 times before you have to touch the ground to refill it, making it my absolute favorite.

I'd say that the Invincibility Star is worse than the 1-Up Mushroom, because invincibility star creates one of two situations: either it's unneeded and you don't get any mileage out of it, or it's required to beat the level. There have been too many levels with hidden "dev stars", and too many levels where the entire challenge is running to the right while invincible. At least the 1-Up Mushroom serves a purpose in Course World levels.
I think so too. The 1-up mushroom at least can't used for evil. And it's not totally worthless, it's good for level design either as a "hey you did something, congrats!" reward or as a "ha ha, you wanted a real mushroom but you get the green one instead" troll thing.
I would also pick the 🌟 as the worst power-up, because 1-Up 🍄 doesn't feel like a power-up at all. It's more like a quarter in an arcade and keeps the game going on. A mechanic external to the gameplay. But Star is intended as a power-up and should be judged as such.
I never considered the 1up as a power up, since it doesn't do anything I just saw it as gaining an extra life, which I guess it's pretty useless in Mario maker
@@harrya9458 it just feels unfitting with the other power ups. Also he discarded coins because they make no sense, I think he should have discarded the 1 up aswell
It's a pretty compelling case for the 1up, though they still have _some_ use in worlds? But while I think the top entries offer up compelling reasons as well, the worst part of both link and SMB2 is the level is forced to resupply you. If the level relies on being link or SMB2 Mario, and the player loses the suit, there has to be a way to get it back. It would have been nice if they had just been gameplay styles, though I recognize the SMB2 mushroom's winning feature would be lost.
My favorite part of ranked lists is.... they almost always look like normal distributions! You never see a scenario where there are 10 5-star, 0 4-star, 0 3- star, 0 2-star and 10 1-star. It's always a bell curve by the end and that is kind of cool. Doesn't matter what it is, normal distribution. And the more items, the better the curve. This one is skewed a bit towards high rankings but it is even at the tails.
If we're gonna discuss power-ups, I just wanna mention that it's REALLY disappointing how the Penguin Suit isn't in Mario Maker 2 Freezing enemies and sliding had a ton of potential
@Matthew Munson so? If its a power down doesnt mean that its bad. It actually adds a ton of cool variety to the game, this is the only chasing enemy in the game its super unique. I would give it a 3/5 fuzzy rating. It cant be used for cool chasing contraptions (kind of like SMB2 mushroom) and I wish it did so its only 3 wonderful fuzzies.
I’m gonna be that guy who says “Uh actually the poison mushroom is the worst” so you don’t have to! Edit: Guys, I mean POWER UP, not level design. The poison mushroom hurts you, and that’s not a really good power up.
The poison mushroom is AMAZING for really obnoxious puzzles, because it triggers note blocks, follows mario even better than Monties, and no one thinks about it.
Ceave, we all miss you and want you back. I have seen all of your videos and wish for more. The little quality details like how the royal fuzzies have cheep-cheeps on their crowns, it's just so wonderful.
The 1-Up Mushroom can become a Rotten Mushroom at night time. I don’t think they deserved to be called the worst, since they also help in Endless mode, and the Rotten Mushroom is the only power up that harms and chases Mario, which can create an interesting level.
Honestly, I think the Master Sword is better than the SMB2 Mushroom because it LITERALLY adds another game to Mario Maker 2. The SMB2 Mushroom's night-time properties are great and all, but the Master Sword just adds too much to the game to not be in the #1 spot. Also, the frog suit should've gotten two fuzzies. Just saying.
Well, ever since the beginning ceave has been my favorite RUclipsr, never have I seen someone been so good from the beginning (although they have gotten even better).
The best way to get a feel for how many ways you can use a power-up, is to look at troll levels. Those actually have a LOT of creative usage for the basic mushroom and star. I think those were underrated in this video. And since you also attribute value to the jumping behavior SMB2 shrooms, consider that basic shroom and star have unique moving behavior as well.
1-ups can be used as reward like coins so they deserve atleast 2 fuzzies and super mushroom is great for traditional levels, and i don't like super cape because it's easy to cheese levels and flying is awkward. There is many things I disagree but I respect your opinion.
Before I watch this video, I wanted to thank you for your Mario Maker videos. This year has so far been absolutely crap & it always brings back some happiness to hear you go on and on about this game. Hope you'll have some content for the upcoming Mario games, keep up the magnificent work. 👍🏻

I really love the new sense of humor Ceave has gotten, it brings a whole new personality to the table that I just love.
A powerup that does something will always have more potential than a powerup that does nothing (at least nothing within the stage).
@@AlmostUselessPenguin Yes, but I feel a rotten mushroom i more interesting than a star.
I would also pick the 🌟 as the worst power-up, because 1-Up 🍄 doesn't feel like a power-up at all. It's more like a quarter in an arcade and keeps the game going on. A mechanic external to the gameplay.
But Star is intended as a power-up and should be judged as such.
I would give it 2 fuzzies for the ground night theme variant
I never considered the 1up as a power up, since it doesn't do anything I just saw it as gaining an extra life, which I guess it's pretty useless in Mario maker
it isn't. it's just an extra life.
I thought Ceave clarified his definition of power ups at the start of the vid
@@harrya9458 it just feels unfitting with the other power ups. Also he discarded coins because they make no sense, I think he should have discarded the 1 up aswell

Endless. Enough said.

Honestly, I don’t think the 1Up mushroom should even be considered a powerup. Since you know, it doesn’t power you up in any way.
