Hey guys, James in the comments below raised a good point that Audeze has just started shipping an upgrade to the Penrose called the Maxwell which looks like it addresses the low battery life issue I mentioned, and potentially, a lot of the other cons mentioned as well. Looks like its starting at the same price as the Penrose but better in every way, you can see full details here: www.audeze.com/products/maxwell-wireless-gaming-headset?variant=40094764990542
In the Audeze Maxwell FAQ, looks like they're recommending you stick with the Playstation/PC version for playstation (but it won't work with xbox). They haven't started shipping the xbox version yet, but playstation versions have just started shipping and the official statement from them as of Feb 8 is that PS versions shipping Feb 22 and Xbox versions are TBD still. I've seen some people start posting unboxings/initial impressions of the PS version today, but no in depth reviews just yet. Not available on Amazon yet in neither US nor Canada so you'll have to buy direct from Audeze in the meantime (as of Feb 19, 2023).
I still think the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless will maintain the better user experience since it has that dock and simultaneous bluetooth/wireless 2.4ghz connection capability, but Audeze did say they're working on an iOS app for iPhone (expected Q2) which will be interesting. We shall see!
Really great comparison, well structured, easy presentation style. Keep at it, this channel will grow
Thanks a ton for watching! appreciate the support 🙏
Great review, hope to see you in the near future with more reviews!
Thanks so much Lebo! means a lot to me to hear that. More videos coming soon 🙏
I think the Razer Kaira Pro would be a better contender for a PS5 headset over the Barracuda Pro. It's specifically designed for console use. It also comes with a detachable boom mic which provides better mic quality than the Barracuda's built-in mic.
Hey Aaron, thanks for watching! I agree the Razer Kaira Pro are def a great value headset worth comparing to other headsets in that price range. I'm working on an updated video to this one where I'll be throwing in the new Turtle Beach Stealth Pro headset and the Audeze Maxwell. Been using both and loving them so far. Definitely new contenders for best overall PS5 headset.
I use HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless. Solid sound, solid mic that you can detach and impressive battery life.
Ahh yes! I heard of those too. They're the highest rated ones on Rtings last I checked 👌
Amazing reviews. Most reviews looks like they are reading from the box
Thanks a ton for watching! and the kind comment.. means a lot since that's the perception I had too. Good to know am not alone 🙏
Can you do a video on best monitor for ps5 in your opinion ? New subscriber btw!
Thanks for watching and subscribing Danilo! Absolutely, I did release this video trying to determine the best PS5 monitor: ruclips.net/video/s_3O5rM3_eo/видео.html
I'm now working on a follow up video where I compare the LG GQ950 to the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 (which spoiler alert, I prefer the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 and do think that is the best PS5 monitor available right now). Monitor videos just really difficult for me haha, lots of tech specs and nuance to try and get across so taking me a while 😬
Good straight to the point video, glad you talked about immersion. I got the Nova Pros for my Series X but the sound is low unless i blast the eq on max. Is there a better immersive sound in the penrose & stealth pros? I want dual Bluetooth since i get calls when I'm playing
Thanks so much for watching and the comment! Hmm, in terms of pure volume, the Penrose takes the win! it's the loudest headset i've ever tried period. I still use it to listen to music and playing some games despite having the Maxwell and Stealth Pros. It just lacks some features (noise cancelling), comfort, and user experience. But honestly I love the sound it produces, just something about it idk. You might have a difficult time finding it though since I think they discontinued it now that the Maxwell is out?
If you can't find it, then yes, the Turtle Beach Stealth Pros are a much better all rounder in terms of features and functions and user experience imo. Hope that helps!
@@seifbuys okay thank you I'm definitely gonna pick up a pair of them then since the Novas just don't do it for me. Discontinuing those when the features aren't the same is crazy but I understand it though
@@YourD2SupportMain Ya, pretty weird but looks like the Penrose is still sold on Amazon from some sellers. Might just not be best in terms of ongoing support from Audeze for the product. Excited to see what new products or improvements they bring once the Sony/Playstation deal to buy them out gets finished and they get additional financial support.
In any case, just tried out the Stealth Pros again, and can confirm the volume there is pretty loud too (louder than the Novas for sure), but the Penrose def the loudest, gets deafeningly loud actually haha, not even at max volume. Maxwell gets pretty loud too, but not as much as Penrose (Maxwell doesn't have the simultaneous bluetooth though as you know).
@@seifbuys Yeah that's where I was going to buy it at and true that's why I'm second guessing it a bit since I usually get warranties but it something goes wrong with this I might be out of luck completely. Me too, that Pulse Elite is a 100% buy for me but hopefully they make a black version of it.
Definitely is going to be a option for me since I didn't mind the 700 Gen 2 Maxes & I might lend towards the Maxwell's more since I still have the Xbox Wireless Headset for Sim Bluetooth. I know the supply for them is low in fact I think they're on pre order until November.
@@YourD2SupportMain oh wow, I must have missed the pulse elite announcement 👀.. I was aware of the pulse explore tho. Will be interesting! Never heard of in ear buds having planar magnetic drivers before 🤔
And I see, ya makes sense. They're good, the Maxwells.. just a shame no sim bluetooth pretty random feature omission on their part. Hard to go wrong with a lot of these headsets so I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself with wtv decision you make 🙏
Have had the Penrose since August of 2021. Definitely unmatched on sound bit the mic is lacking for sure. Honestly felt like they took the Mobius and gave it a poor battery and stripped some features but made it wireless and called it a day. Again, the best sounding by a mile and I game on PC so with the software to change sound profiles when you want to it just embarrasses so many other headsets. Waiting for the Maxwell to ship. I can't wait because you can tell they actually put some effort into making it a True Audeze quality product. Good review!
Nice, I agree 💯! Penrose unmatched on sound quality out of these and I can't wait for the Maxwell.. and gonna mess around with sound profiles on my penrose now too since they have a MAC app now too. Thanks 🙏
and you never had them cracking, a lot of people is talking about them cracking? :) i have ordered the penrose instead of maxwell, because the maxwell is super heavy 😅
Hi! Great review. Hows your audeze penrose doing right now? Iam on a verge of buying it right now but still getting blocked by many reviews who said that it doesnt last a year due to its cheap plastic build
Hey, thanks for watching! ya so my Penrose is doing just fine! I tend to take care of my stuff though especially expensive stuff. The plastic does creak if you swivel it though doesn't bother me since it doesn't make any sound once it's actually on ur head.
The main issue with Penrose is user experience I would say, like you can get the mic to work perfectly and the sound quality is really good, just more cumbersome to set up properly than other brands. Same with getting the bluetooth and game sound to both play at same time at appropriate volumes.. like you can get it to work.. just be prepared for some trial and error and watching youtube vids on how to do it. Honestly though the sound quality more than makes up for all its issues though. Especially after i figured out how to EQ it using the mac app (again not straightforward to figure that out hah).. like the footsteps eq preset is insane in cod imo and music listening in just the normal eq.. i actually prefer it to my airpods max.
It's the user experience that really holds the Penrose back and Audeze looks like they've addressed all the issues in the new Maxwell headset (still waiting on mine to ship and looks like there's a waitlist through april now though).
In short, wait for the Audeze Maxwell if you can, or if you don't mind the issues i mentioned with Penrose and you can get it at much better price, then sure go for Penrose. For reference, while I said the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless is best overall headset, I still reach for my Penrose every time regardless of which game i'm playing now (since I figured out how to properly eq the sound for cod). Also note the new Maxwell doesn't have simultaneous bluetooth and wireless, but the Penrose does.
Thanks for the heads up! Yes I think I will just wait for the maxwell I guess. Many people said it delivers like penrose did but better in every aspect. It even uses new material for longer durability. Right now I am using Barracuda Pro and maybe I will sell this so that I can preorder the maxwell. Thank you again for your thorough opinion.
Which gaming headset has the best noise cancelling feature?
Hmm so far no gaming headset has really impressed me for noise cancelling. Especially if you're used to using, airpods pro, airpods max, sony WH 1000 XMs or Bose QC line of headsets.
But if I had to choose one, I think the new Turtle Beach Stealth Pro has the best noise cancelling on a gaming headset to date, I still choose to turn it off most of the time though to better experience the sound quality the headset has to offer.
Do the nova pro wireless have a more immersive sound compared to the inzone h9s?
Yes, I would say so! though as of today, I would definitely go for the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro if I wanted immersion, convenience, and the widest feature set. Either that or the Audeze Maxwell, though you would be missing out on some features you might care about with the Maxwell.
Working on an updated video that will feature these new best gaming gaming headsets.
@@seifbuys thx for the response! One more thing tho. Are the Bang&Olufsen Portals, and Master&Dynamic MG20s actually worth it?
@@fazeapplestic9420 Np! can't say i've tried those myself, but no, as far as I know they're both beat out by the new Audeze Maxwell and new Turtle Beach Stealth Pro.
Audeze Maxwell are the absolute best sounding (Highs, lows, mids and base) best comfort and build quality out all these headsets, and others out today..
Took a while to get them..
Steelseries 7P+ returned after 2 weeks.. No base..
Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro the noice cancelling function platicky thing sticks right into the side of the ear stopping blood flow. More base than the 7P+ but that good either..
Agreed! i've been meaning to make an updated vid. The Maxwells are the new GOAT with the new turtle beach stealth pros right on its tail.
Good video bro, very helpful, saved me on doing shit
Thanks for watching bro! btw the best overall for ps5 as of today I think is the new Turtle Beach Stealth Pros, but if you really want to try planar magnetic sound (which is something I really enjoy), then go with the new Audeze Maxwell.
Both came out after I made the vid so they're not mentioned here. I need to make an updated video including those 2 new headsets.
You need to do Maxwell. However I have the nova pro wired on ps5 and Maxwell . I buy them for sound only,
The features I am not fussed about. Comfort with wicked cushions make them equal although nova are lighter and less clamp force. Nova I found is still better on competitive games but I can never get enough bass and the constant sharp high end frequencies give me ear fatigue, but I still use them for FPS games. I used Maxwell for everything. I have to use epos h6 pro for PSVR2 games due to adjustment needed to fit over them. Nova just lacks bass compared to Maxwell. So for VR gaming the Epos, for single player non competitive games, the Maxwell all day long. Competitive games is the nova wired.
Agreed! I do need to create a part two to this because I have since bought the Maxwell and Turtle Beach Stealth Pros and I do believe those two are the new best ones to beat.
Still keeping the nova pros and penrose for now though since they do have a distinct sound as well that I like to experience from time to time.
Hi there! i must say in my opinion, the Steel headphones are much better for those who loves the wireless conect for that. I just had for 4 years the before model of Steel and they were amazing!. So thanks for this review, that for me, is conviced to pay for the new ones. Again, a brilliant video from John Snow. The North listen music too! greetings from Spain!
Amazing, glad to hear Mikel! thanks for watching as always, means a lot to me 🙏 the North remembers haha
Hey Mikel, heads up if you haven't ordered the SteelSeries yet, James just commented below that Audeze is coming out with a new version of their headset called the Maxwell, will be interesting to see if that one improves the flaws of the Penrose that I mention in the video while maintaining or improving the amazing sound. Definetly sounds like they've improved on the battery life with 80+hrs. But I'm sure the SteelSeries will still have the better user experience with the easy adjustment on the dock and simultaneous bluetooth and usb wireless connection though. So we will see!
@@seifbuys Man, thanks for your advice! io will follow this one, and wait for this one, so again Thank You!! is great have yours comments and vids for this value info John SNow! Kind Regards!
@@mikel.zuniga cheers, thanks Mikel! 🙏
Haha not believing in adjusting planar Magnetic drivers is a really really backwards take my friend lol. Definitely wanna tune it up in the eq. Also the mic is a stud your one of the first few people I’ve ever seen say it’s garbage because it detaches and you might loose it. Idk my guy you really surprised me with all the negative talk on the Penrose. I freaking love mine 😂 hopefully the maxwell will make you more pleased!
Haha not wrong man, like i mentioned I was just lazy with addressing the issues I encountered with it because I was only using it for story games for the amazing sound. If it was my only headset, probably would spend more time trying to figure out how to properly configure the mic gain (they changed it to auto gain on the maxwell since it was clearly an issue for many) and have since figured out how to get the bluetooth working again (took a lot of concentrated effort and trial and error). Just overall the user experience is less than ideal on multiple fronts, so couldn't give it best overall despite the amazing sound which is in a league of its own (virtually all usability issues appear addressed on Maxwell though).
Also, I'm with you on the EQ! once i figured out how to EQ it on the MAC app with the Mobius presets that audeze made (again not the best user experience to figure and do all that and again looks like addressed on the maxwell), I can say the Penrose is crazy good in call of duty as well with the footsteps preset. So find myself reaching for the Penrose pretty much everytime now instead of the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless.
Great review but the Audeze Maxwell are by far the better headsets here. Anyone watching..trust me.. get the Audeze Maxwell.
Thanks! Agreed, I've put notes and warnings everywhere on this video and description letting people know about the Maxwell soon as I found out. Did you get yours yet? I ordered mine like a month ago and still hasn't shipped 😔
Hey man should i get the h9 (240usd) or the nova 7 200usd
I will use them for ps5 and music on bluetooth what do u recommend coz i am torn between them i do have a laptop if i need to eq a headset
Hey crispy, if I had to choose between just those 2, I would go with InZone H9 for sure.
Though I don't think either of those are the best options right now. Top two headsets right now would be the Audeze Maxwell and the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro.
@@seifbuys yh man thats the problem in my region they don’t sell these headsets if the macwells were available i would definitely buy it but these are the headsets that are available, so the h9 won’t let me down for music listening on bluetooth and gaming right ?
@@crispy_toast07 Oh sorry to hear man, ya it won't blow you away but it's pretty good nonetheless. Like if I hadn't tried the others, I'm sure I would have loved it. Def better than the Arctis Nova 7 imo.
@@seifbuys i have the cloud 2 so these have to be better considering they’re more expensive 😅 alr might just go with the h9 coz i have no other choice
@@crispy_toast07 hmm I wouldn't be so sure of that at least in sound quality department. Rtings rates the cloud II's sound quality pretty highly: www.rtings.com/headphones/tools/compare/hyperx-cloud-2-cloud-ii-vs-sony-inzone-h9-wireless/502/34072?usage=19&threshold=0.10
You should try the audeze maxwell its an upgrade from audeze penrose and sounds better than nova pro plus its got 80 hour battery life even techne declares maxwell beat the nova pro overall
Yep! ordered the Maxwell soon as I heard.. still waiting for shipping confirmation from Audeze 🥲
@@seifbuys Nice! When you get the headset if you connect on pc you can use 24bit/96 hz via wireless no need for wires. I would assume you already know how to set the bitrate on your windows control panel. Thats something nova pro wouldnt be able to do on wireless mode if im correct
@@G1Gaming85 True! thanks for that.. didn't know and don't have a PC 😬
you are not the first to talk about the fact that their sound creaks, because of this I am afraid to take them, for such money, I wanted to take audeze maxwell for games, but now I am thinking ...
hmm you're right, it's quite inexcusable at this price, but honestly I love the sound on the Penrose so much, especially after figuring out how to EQ it with audeze's custom presets, that I'm willing to overlook all the issues and find myself reaching for them over the steelseries literally every time now.
The 'sound creaks' are rare enough that I don't think they have hindered my enjoyment of the headset at all. Gadgetry tech said it best I think when he described the sound as 'intoxicating', it's just so immersive and enjoyable in comparison to any other headset i've used.
The Maxwell looks like it addresses all the issues but gets rid of simultaneous bluetooth and wireless, just waiting for it to ship to see for myself.
@@seifbuys will wait for your review on Maxwell :)
@@lyuto_bor Sounds good 🙏.. hope they come soon 😬
Nice video, bud. I actually just got the nova pro, but soon after found out about the Audeze Maxwell. Ordered those and will likely be sending the Novas back.
Have you had a chance to check them out yet?
Thanks man 🙏. I ordered Maxwell soon as someone commented letting me know.. sadly audeze emailed yesterday saying they won't ship till March. Based on what I read on their site and gadgetry tech and teche's review videos so far, I would say they are the new best overall headset. Audeze basically took the Penrose cons i mentioned in this video and addressed every single point except the simultaneous bluetooth/wireless 2.4ghz. The nova Pro wireless still beats the Maxwell on that front, but that's it. What's the ETA on when your Maxwell will ship? any update from them?
@@seifbuys I literally just got an email today, as well. Same thing saying that it “may not ship until March.” I’m being optimistic.
One thing that excites me is that anywhere Novas might be stronger in sound performance are likely from custom tuning. I’d imagine when Maxwell’s get the app working for EQ tuning then they should win in every area except that simultaneous Bluetooth.
I’m especially loving the idea of being able to walk throughout my house and not getting any sound distortion. This is the most excited I’ve been for a headset.
@@GreenerBlazer Ahaha crazy! Ya same, v excited for the Maxwell. Trying to be optimistic over here too man, hope they were just being conservative with that email just to surprise us and come through earlier, exceeding our expectations lol.
Absolutely agree with the EQ tuning note, like after I figured out how to EQ my Penrose with the AudezeHQ app on mac using their custom presets, the Audeze Penrose has been insane for all game types, not just story games. Like footsteps are crystal clear with the footsteps preset and so is overall positional awareness and all that. I'm rarely reaching for my SteelSeries now even despite all the cons with the Penrose.
@@seifbuys received my shipped email today. Is yours on the way yet?
@@GreenerBlazer nice! happy for you man. Sadly no, no shipping update email or anything from
audeze in my inbox 😭.. yet 🤞
U miss out the audeze maxwell for ps5
What?? just looked it up and wow! looks better than Penrose in every way but being released at the same price! Will order it from Amazon soon as they make it available there.. have a feeling the shipping from Audeze will take forever. Thanks for the comment James, wouldn't have known otherwise 🙏. Will pin a comment letting people know about that one.
Alright, warned people of the potential for FOMO. Pinned a comment and added important note in description. Thanks a ton for the heads up James.
Wonder if the Xbox version will work with pc im still debating between the novas and the maxwell. I intend to use it for Pc/Xbox/phone/tablet warzone apex and listen to music! hopefully the bluetooth is fixed with the maxwell
@@djmervizzzy Ya, it will work with PC for sure. Both PS and Xbox versions work with PC. Interesting point on the Maxwell is it looks like they abandoned simultaneous bluetooth and 2.4ghz wireless, rather it will switch between the two.. seems like a step back but maybe that's their solution to it not working on the penrose? idk 🤷
@@seifbuys goodluck, it is sold out everywhere. Even people who pre ordered since announcement still has not gotten theirs.
We need more real people doing real reviews like this. I’m tired of searching for reviews on RUclips and there’s a thousand content farm videos just copy and pasting cnet lists and crap.
Thanks for watching! couldn't agree more man. It ain't much but it's honest work lol
be careful with those maxwells
what? what happened to em, have em here on my desk.. should I be concerned about something? 😳
The Audeze Penrose has spoiled me, all other "gaming headsets" now sound bad for me.
I agree 💯. I even bought the new audeze maxwell and turtle beach stealth pro and you know what.. I think I still prefer the sound of the penrose. Idk what it is but it just hits different.
No maxwell? You gotta try them penrose is a joke compared to them
so i've heard 😭.. waiting on mine to ship. Ordered soon as someone mentioned them in comments.
Get the new audeze Maxwell
Ordered it soon as I heard.. Audeze emailed me today saying won't ship till early march though 😭
Audio quality on Steel Series Pro is as good as $20 walmart off brand headphones. Utterly tiny and poor sound. You are paying for the wireless/dac/and other features. The spatial audio on it is really good and that's about it. But as far as the audio quality goes, something like the pc38x destroys the steel series headphones by a long shot. Audeze is 100X better than the nova pro's I would say.
Hey Mustafa, haha dkm, idk about $20 off brand walmart lol.. but ya compared to the Audeze Penrose and the new Audeze Maxwell, it's def beat out by a long shot in the sound quality department. What is this PC38X? 👀. Worth a buy or no if I've already got the Audeze Maxwell?
@@seifbuys Trust me. My first headphone I got few years back was $24 walmart headphones. The Nova Pro’s don’t sound any better than that haha. And Pc38x is one of the best headsets under $200 made by Sennheiser and fantastic for gaming and all round use. It’s an open back so it does have a wide sound stage. If you already have the maxwell and are happy, don’t think you need the pc38x unless you wanna try an open back headset for pretty cheap. Maxwells are damn amazing closed back cans with planar magnetic drivers. It’s the best wireless option at the moment.
@@doktorr23 Ahh fair enough! i'll take your word for it as I haven't tried walmart off brand headphones to date hah.
Good to know that about PC38X and ya the Maxwells are killer, have stopped using my steel series entirely since I got em. Changing the EQ with just a couple clicks on the headset and that amazing planar magnetic driver sound quality are underrated still imo. More people need to try it out for sure.
I second this, the Novas sound quiet and like cheap headphones. The Xbox Wireless Headset sounds better but the Bluetooth is better on the Novas. Looking for better sound with dual Bluetooth now
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE LIE.👎 The steel series nova pro wireless is absolute garbage on ps5. A high percentage of the time you don’t hear any footsteps at all on WZ2. The steel series arctis pro wireless on ps4 pro on black out is unbelievable. So I was so excited about this model only to be majorly disappointed.. looking at other reviews I think they have concentrated on being compatible with PC & that’s why they don’t perform on PS5. Can’t trust any of these reviews 👎
Thanks for watching Simon!
I beg to differ. I've got all the headsets including the new Audeze Maxwell and Turtle Beach Stealth Pros. Is the Steelseries Arctis Nova Pro my favourite? no, but it performs really well in spatial awareness and accuracy of footstep detection imo. This is my experience on call of duty modern warfare 2 on PS5.
I have no incentive to lie lol.
Sorry mate I don’t mean to be nasty. I’m so frustrated with my nova pro’s I’m looking at replacing them. The inconsistency with them on WZ2 which is basically all I play now is crazy. Sometimes no audio footsteps at all then other times it’s sounds further away then sometimes it’s good. I just don’t know how steel series previous high end model worked so much better than this one. It could be the issue with WZ2 audio itself but I get the feeling others are hearing footsteps a lot better than me. I’ve been thinking about the new turtle beach ones I really like the swap able batteries 👍 my friend I play with has the same headset with the same issues & we’ve looked into it and it’s a common issue. When I watched you say how good they are for positional awareness my blood boiled 😂😂👍 sorry mate 😊👍
@@simonclayton2038 haha no worries and sorry to hear man!
Ya the turtle beach stealth pros are the new best all rounders imo but something about the sound quality of the audeze maxwell if you've tried planar magnetics might make you swing that way.
Hope you and your mate find the footstep awareness you're after 🙏
