Still don't get how the engine shutting off for 1.8 seconds at a stoplight saves any fuel. Always seems like it shuts off right before time to take off again.
As the sticker of these near $80k - I think I would look at a slightly used BMW X7 with 5000 miles on the clock for much less money. X7 is slightly smaller inside but the interior is worlds apart. GM still has what looks like a rental car interior. The wood grain is still plastic - even in the $85k High Country edition.
Wait for those repair bills. German cars suck.. endless money pits . GM is not great either.. as far as reliability, but service and parts are much much cheaper . Just do a comparison on what an oil change cost or some other basic maintenance. Be interesting to price compare the BMW with the same features. Full air suspension and magnetic ride etc The BMW can only tow 5900lbs. So not really the same abilities either.

Buyer beware of modern vehicles, the cost to repair/replace electronics is high. That fancy infotainment screen is nice but once it fails you have to replace because lots of important information and vehicle function to reliant on it. Fancy vehicles with fancy repairs.
Alex could you please add two elements to your graphics? 1) Estimated range based on EPA combined MPG and fuel tank capacity (some cars are surprisingly short-legged, like the new Mustang). 2) A flashing warning and a loud buzzing sound before showing prices of non-premium blue collar salt of the earth working man American SUVs.
Especially WHEN the a/c goes out after the warranty expires. Used to be about an $800 job, but now costs over $4000 because of component placement. Save $50 on assembly, cost the customer 5x as much for repairs. Plus the extended use of plastic. I'll keep my 2002 Tahoe.
I'm in the market for one of these but I'm really disappointed with the styling. I honestly preferred the styling of the outgoing model. This thing is homely as all get out. I need to see what the Yukon is going to look like, or hope Ford does a mid-cycle refresh of the Expedition soon, because the Tahoma is off my list for the time being.
I don't particularly care about the Tahoe either way but the Audi Q7 is smaller (especially third row) and more expensive (both in base price and fully loaded - especially, if you consider that Chevy dealers usually give you good deals off MSRP). The Q8 is also smaller and much more expensive. As for quality - Audi is notably below the other luxury brands, so I wouldn't exactly tout THEM as an example for that...
@@dsugioaga They just don't do nice interiors. No dog in the fight, I will never be able to afford a Chevy. LOL. Can you believe I just said that? I'm used to thinking "I can't afford a BMW, Audi etc. but Chevy?
Audi is far from the standard for a quality interior. I'd say this is just as depressing as the most recent Audi interior designs but with less shiny, gimmicky screens to distract from the cheap build. For 70K, you should be getting a Lexus, Genesis, or at least Mercedes quality interior. I mean the Hyundai Palisade fully loaded is like 30k or more cheaper with a FAR nicer interior along with better reliability records so... 🤷♂️
@@notsoserious0944 In terms of luxury brands, the new Genesis lineup. The G80 particularly. That's my favorite. Second favorite would probably be Mercedes's interiors or Lexus in third. For non-lux brands, I like Hyundai/kia interiors, Mazda, and Toyota's newer designs. I also think some of Nissan's new interiors are underated
Electrical center console? Sounds ridiculous at first but with all the weight of the stuff that can fit in, it's probably more than what the driver can manually handle when the car is on a slope.
Timothy, they produce these vehicles because GM knows there is a market and demand. They charge those prices because they can. I'm an average wage guy but there are plenty of folks and businesses that will have the budget for these SUVs. There is a lot of technology in these modern vehicles, they are nice when everything works fine but what scares me is the repair cost once out of warranty.
Combination tail lights on a $55000 SUV? What is wrong with these people? I honestly thought GM would move away from cheap stuff in this generation. My mistake
Andrew M there’s also the matter that a lot of features that should be standard on such an expensive vehicle simply aren’t. Radar cruise control? Nope. It’s optional. Ventilated seats? Gotta pay up. Also, the headlight knob was wiggling all around as Alex was turning it, and the trim piece for the middle seatbelt just came right out as he grabbed the belt. That’s the kid of build quality you’d expect in a $10000 subcompact hatchback, not a $50000 full size SUV
Every time I see these not towing something, I’m lost to the idea of what these are for. These are nice tow vehicles, but if you’re not towing, woulnd’t a TransitConnect van be the better people mover/stuff hauler for 1/2 the price?
It has Active fuel management on all the cylinders so that all the valves fail at 100,000 miles instead of just two sets, and bright red tow hooks so that you can find them in the dark when it needs to be towed to the dealer. When the quote to repair the air suspension is outrageous, people will still spend a fortune to have it converted to a conventional suspension which is how GM should have designed it in the first place. I'm also certain that it comes with a litany of standard defects like high oil consumption, transmission shudder, and Stabilitrak problems. Buy it, and drive it right to the junkyard so that the materials can be used by a manufacturer that knows how to design a vehicle.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily
Within a year, you'll be able to regularly get 10-15% off MSRP, which should help those that have just discovered that vehicles depreciate. As soon as Nissan and Toyota discover that it's 2020 and they might consider investing in a new version of their SUVs instead of marking up 2000 technology to 2020 levels, they'll be pricing their rigs at this level too. The GM and Ford pricing for their top end rigs put them in Land Cruiser territory, but it's tough to by an LC with 2010 tech and design in it. If GM gets dinged for design, so should Toyota.
@@Word-Life Definitely Defender territory, and it's a rig that I've looked at very closely. I like it quite a lot. But I'm a buy and hold guy. I can't over the feeling that after enjoying the Defender that it will let me down. And once it starts to shed parts, that it will cost more to repair than this Tahoe/Yukon.
Not sure what the advantage of the ladder frame is anymore - the tow ratings are not meaningfully better than unibody SUVs but the driving dynamics and the fuel economy is terrible. 16 mpg EPA with that weight and lack of power will be 10 mpg in the real world empty to keep up with traffic, single-digit when full or towing. 16:05 nice fit and finish with that unintentionally wavy console under the center screen. 21:45 the entire console wobbles a quarter of an inch as you move the ride height knob. For Porsche Cayenne money this should be much much much much much better.
The Z71 has a light/dark grey interior thats much nicer. The suspension in the rear was redesigned for independent suspension and coil springs, so even without the airbags, there is still no leafs Edit: The suburban will have an even smoother ride due to the longer wheelbase
Rental cars are going bankrupt aren't they? Hertz is gone. Enterprise has furloughed a big chunk of their staff. Not too many flights and need for rentals compared to pre-pandemic days.
I guess we can only cook bacon in a minivan. I think it's a pity. This Tahoe looks very nice and if I had a rich uncle that had died and left me a lot of money, I'd buy one with the air suspension and loaded up as far as I could, probably with the diesel.
Looked at the Tahoe and Expedition this weekend. Liked the Tahoe a little better, but the comparable Expedition is marked down $12-13k while the 2021 Tahoe’s are sitting at sticker price! Yikes!
The truck looks amazing, but after my experience with a 2015, I’d never spend my own money on one. $5000 with 70k on it to replace a stuck lifter. Common problem with the cylinder deactivation apparently. No thanks!
I assume that’s what shuts off the cylinder deactivation? Should have to tune a $60k vehicle to make it reliable. And that wouldn’t prevent the 3 times the AC had to be repaired in 70k miles either. It’s a shame, because I love the Tahoe. But it’s a POS. Just glad I don’t have to pay for the repair bills on it since it’s a work truck.
Never buy anything in its first model year, whether it's cars, TV's, washing machines, airplanes, etc. Wait until the next model year, when they iron all the problems out.
They’d have to do a lot to make me ever consider one of these things. I hate the appearance of the new Tahoe and Suburban (all the ridiculous looking grilles are over the top). They’ve gone insane with the pricing too. My grandmother has a last-Gen fully loaded Tahoe and driving it is a chore. It feels like it’s even more massive than it is. I drive large trucks on occasion (dump trucks, semis, etc.) and they feel easier to place in your lane than the Tahoe. The outward visibility, like GM’s Silverado pickups, is poor. The hood was taller than the windshield glass and prevented you from seeing the road ahead. Inside quality is middling at best. I haven’t driven or seen a new Tahoe in person, but I have driven it’s cousin, the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500. I can only imagine the overall experience isn’t that much of an improvement on those vehicles. When I drove the GMC Sierra 1500 Denali with the 6.2L V8 and 10-speed automatic I wasn’t impressed. The 10-speed transmission occasionally stumbles and shifts roughly and it’s constantly shifting. I prefer ZF’s 8HP over the GM/Ford 10-speed. The 5.3L and 6.2L V8 don’t offer the potent low end thrust competitors’ turbocharged V6/I6 and turbocharged V8 engines offer. For the amount of money GM wants for a Tahoe or Suburban today, I would much rather have a BMW X5 or X7 with either I6 or V8, Range Rover Sport w/ the Supercharged V8, upcoming LR Defender 130, Mercedes GLE/GLS, Tesla Model X, or Audi SQ7. I just can’t imagine paying over $80K for a TAHOE! I remember when you could get a Suburban for less than $30K... it wasn’t even that long ago. GM has nearly increased the cost of their trucks and SUVs by 75% in the past 15 years. A base Tahoe now costs nearly $51K! Way too much in my opinion.
The new Tahoe will likely destroy Suburban sales as it is now almost the size and capacity of the old Suburban. I’m guessing most Uber drivers who drive Suburbans now will opt in for the cheaper Tahoe now.
What Uber driver would want to drive at Tahoe? Or a suburban? They don't make good money anymore. Who the hell could afford to put gas in one of those. Maybe if you were able to drive Uber black but even Uber Black doesn't pay well now either.
kens97sto171 Most of them do. Large SUV rides cost much more and they’re able to pick up large airport parties as well ad drive in snow. You’re clearly not familiar with full-time Uber/Lyft in large cities.
@@afcgeo882 Umm yes I am.. drove for 4 +years . Maybe not in large city... Like Chicago. But 3-4 million metro population size. Not worth it.. I'd rather drive my Prius and make more profit. At a cost of $0.07/mile. And being paid $0.80 per mile. What do most taxi drivers drive?? Prius, or minivan. No need for a suburban. Airports are a pain in the ass. No thanks.
kens97sto171 Well, not in any real, large city. Lyft Lux black pays 2x of a Lyft. Uber Black pays about 50% more for the same ride as Uber X. The Tahoe/Suburban qualifies for those.
@@afcgeo882 I totally understand, but that's the problem two times the pay or 50% more may not end up being more profitable when you factor in the cost of operation on a vehicle like that. My Prius cost me $0.07 per mile. That's fuel all fluids and maintenance and tires. I absolutely understand I am missing out on some trips. But when you run the numbers at the end of the day you may be better off to spend less money on the vehicle and make a little bit less money on the rides. Because when you have a crappy day you're still out getting 18 miles gallon in that Tahoe. When I have a crappy day in my Prius it hasn't cost me that much. Obviously this all depends on your location and city and what the situation and opportunities are there. I've worked in three different cities, none of which warranted a large SUV. Even UberXL in a minivan. Probably only 25% of your rides are actually XL and the rest of the time you're driving around getting crappy gas mileage getting paid UberX rates. But everyone has a different situation..

Just got a High Country, love it! Agreed the Z71 grill and wheels was a turn off for me. Really didn't want the 6.2 engine, but only way High Country comes.
Full air suspension and magnetic ride etc
The BMW can only tow 5900lbs.
So not really the same abilities either.
kens97sto171 just buy a Toyota Land Cruiser or sequoia. Or even the lx570 or gx460
@@naveenthemachine
That would be better choice.. reliability wise
I drive WAY too much for a gas hig like that.. and I have no need
I'll stick with my old boring Prius.
12 years old, 331,000 Miles. Still gives me 45-47mpg.
Total cost per mile is $0.07 . Fuel, maintenance, and tires. Pretty hard to beat
kens97sto171 331K!? Did you have to replace any hybrid components like the battery or generator?
@@naveenthemachine
Nope. Still on original battery. The motors are in the transmission. If you change the transmission fluid every 50k they last forever
Hybrid packs are getting cheaper.. new one from Toyota is about $2500 now.
I just changed the struts, but all the other suspension bits.. tie rods, ball joints, control arm bushings are all still original.
76,000 dollars??? Who would spend that on this? Ridiculous prices for vehicles. This thing will be worth 20,000 in a year on used market.
You are tripping if you think this thing will loose that amount in value. You should go back and take some general math lol.
@@juvibro9913
He's definitely off on his math a bit. I would say it's probably going to be worth half in three years plus. Might be able to knock 20 grand off it in 2 years. But that's $56,000.
First off, they actually sell at around 18% below MSRP and 3 year old ones sell for around $40k. The demand for them is high.
@@afcgeo882 yup 2016s with 30-50k miles still are listed at 30k
In future reviews, can you include a lift-over height for the cargo area? Some manufactures don't provide it, and it would be helpful to know.
Has GM improved the door opening (first and second row) so you can get a men's size 11 foot in the door and footwell without strange contortions?
Alex, Lets hope GM builds 3 tons of QDR into this Tahoe.
What does that mean
@@Jaymac720 Quality, Dependability and Reliability
What happened to the rear seat tablets?
Agreed that Premier has the better front end.
I just can’t get past that scary front end👹☠️🙀👎🏿👻👹
Oh my goodness. $70k and you don't get an Audi quality interior? That looks like the same Chevy crap from days gone by. Oh, plus a widescreen.
@@austing4321 Yeah, pick your favorite interior. Chevy ain't one them.
GM has to be out of their damn mind if they think I'm going to spend my hard-earned money for that. It won't be worth half that amount in 2 years.
vvvVFANGSVvvv I agree. Many Americans will gladly pay 700+ per month for their vehicles now.
You were NEVER shopping for that class anyway, so who cares?!
😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Timothy, they produce these vehicles because GM knows there is a market and demand. They charge those prices because they can. I'm an average wage guy but there are plenty of folks and businesses that will have the budget for these SUVs. There is a lot of technology in these modern vehicles, they are nice when everything works fine but what scares me is the repair cost once out of warranty.
Let’s hope gm also builds some reliability into these as well.
Nice, big, comfy and.....expensive! Are we heading for 10 year financing?
They can keep them at those prices.
Gorgeous vehicle.
Combination tail lights on a $55000 SUV? What is wrong with these people? I honestly thought GM would move away from cheap stuff in this generation. My mistake
They did in many areas. If you wont buy a car cause the rear turn signals are incandescent, thats a problem.
You're buying the size the powertrain and the practicality. You probably would be happier buying a Korean make.
Every time I see these not towing something, I’m lost to the idea of what these are for. These are nice tow vehicles, but if you’re not towing, woulnd’t a TransitConnect van be the better people mover/stuff hauler for 1/2 the price?
And cheaper
TransitConnect = Zero Swag 😂
Its really sad that the good old American column shifter is replaced by touch buttons. I wonder if it will ever comeback...
Ha! As soon as Alex said this vehicle is $76K, I quit watching. Nice review, up to what I saw, Alex, but the price tag makes me shiver.
Its a large SUV, of course it will be expensive! Do you want it to be 15k or something?
Yeah man for 76k you could buy multiple Honda accords, you could buy a high trim level 2500 diesel truck for 76k.
The highest I could get the configurator for the Z71 model was $70,661, not sure how to get it up to the 76k you mentioned.
What is the card reader looking thing on the left of the steering wheel. Next to all the buttons.

When will you do the full review?
The Z71 is my favorite, it looks like a truck. The higher trims are ok if your driving to the country club, but i much prefer the truck look!
Alex, for how much you like this Tahoe, would you consider it over your Durango?
LOL. The road here in upper California are really terrible.
Come for a drive in Quebec and you will reconcile with your tarmac!
Ontario is just as bad.
The Z71 has a light/dark grey interior thats much nicer.
The suspension in the rear was redesigned for independent suspension and coil springs, so even without the airbags, there is still no leafs
Edit: The suburban will have an even smoother ride due to the longer wheelbase
NICE!!! VERY NICE RENTAL CARRR!!! COMING TO RENTAL ENTERPRISE NEAR YOU!!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Is the DFM a high mileage reliable engine? I hear they are having problems. Idk
GVWR please?
Looked at the Tahoe and Expedition this weekend. Liked the Tahoe a little better, but the comparable Expedition is marked down $12-13k while the 2021 Tahoe’s are sitting at sticker price! Yikes!
Actually the Tahoe has 7-9 passengers configurations.
How long until that power sliding console breaks.
Maybe never...how many years do power windows/locks etc last? What’s to say this is never an issue
It's more likely the transmission. About 50k miles or less.
its a Chevy, not that long
The truck looks amazing, but after my experience with a 2015, I’d never spend my own money on one. $5000 with 70k on it to replace a stuck lifter. Common problem with the cylinder deactivation apparently. No thanks!
Get a range chip
I assume that’s what shuts off the cylinder deactivation? Should have to tune a $60k vehicle to make it reliable. And that wouldn’t prevent the 3 times the AC had to be repaired in 70k miles either. It’s a shame, because I love the Tahoe. But it’s a POS. Just glad I don’t have to pay for the repair bills on it since it’s a work truck.
Never buy anything in its first model year, whether it's cars, TV's, washing machines, airplanes, etc. Wait until the next model year, when they iron all the problems out.
What trim do you need for ventilated seats?
The 80k trim
The Mercedes GLS trim.
$76,000 for a Chevy Tahoe? Do you get an auto loan or a mortgage?
Haha. I’m most cities, you can buy a condo with that type of money
Average price in my city for a medium size house is 1.5million dollars, my house, a very modest one, is 2.3million, welcome to 2020
Can you still get the LS trim with the front row bench?
Split bench, yes.
That sliding central console can be used to toss the garbage.
That front end though...
Pukes.
1:36 Not a good sign when the new test vehicle GM offers seems to be leaking fluid.
That could easily be a air conditioning condensate
It’s AC condensation, moron!
The pricing on new cars has gotten so insane in the last couple decades. Two of these Tahoes cost as much as my house.
Hey... 21st century called while you were spinning your rotary phone.
That iPad infotainment screen is utterly hideous. Ford got it right with their 12 inch center stack screen.
$76K? I remember Suburban selling for $20K+. I am either getting really old, or people have gone insane paying those prices. Maybe both.
That only shows how old you are.

mountainhobo Why? The GM and dealer discounts bring it down to $55k.
@@afcgeo882 Then buy it. Don't talk, buy it.
mountainhobo Thanks for your permission, Boomer! You must be some Soviet comrade.
Can the central sliding console split logs ?
Has the diesel been confirmed as an option for the Z71?
No.
No diesel for the Z71, due to the front end redesign to improve the launch angle.
76K which is probably 20K too much...

@@afcgeo882
I totally understand, but that's the problem two times the pay or 50% more may not end up being more profitable when you factor in the cost of operation on a vehicle like that.
You really are the best Alex, but idk man when the expedition gets a refresh it might be just as good if not better. For now I’m sticking with the Ford Expedition. The front dash in the Chevy isn’t that attractive IMO.
