  • Today, Ian is in the bay to show you his key takeaways on how to get faster club head speed.
    Every golfer can benefit from more club head speed in their driver swing, but a lot of times we can increase swing speed just by changing how we approach the swing of the golf club.
    Ian walks you through his 3 step process to increase speed by 5+ MPH!

    Well guys you did it again. The last speed journey you put out in the fall I jumped on board and increased my average ball speed by 6mph with some speed stick and personal training. At 64 yrs old and 155lbs mid/high handicap brought my average BS up to 142. Prior to this video I had set 145 as my new goal for the end of the year but I think I’ll bump it up to 150mph by December 31. That’s a stretch goal, however, my new golf coach has me working on some of the concepts you laid out in the video (hip turn, extension, ground force) so I’m just starting to incorporate some of the technical concepts. Currently doing yoga, Pilates and personal training so as long as it feels ok with my body I’ll keep working it. Oh handicap is starting to edge down also.

    Thanks for the video on gaining club head speed. I took your suggestions out on the course and saw improvement fairly quickly. I am 62 years old and over the last few years my driver distance has only been averaging between 235 yrs to 245. After several holes and adjusting my swing to your suggestions, I hit 2 drives distances I have reached in many years. 2 of my drives reached over 270 yards!!! Wow...thanks!!!

I really think a down the line camera angle would be super helpful when discussing this, especially when talking about depth and stretch in the backswing - would be helpful to see what you're talking about. Not that this is bad by any means, of course! 😂 just maybe something for future videos like this. Awesome job!!

I regret doing months of speed training with only speed sticks in my garage. I wasn’t hitting any golf balls and didn’t realize I was ingraining bad habits that were ruining my clubface control. I have focused this year on turn. I'm up maybe 2-4 mph. When doing that I may tend to pull it or draw it more so I align my ball to about 1:00 and look there also when swinging. It has worked so far. I'd throw in that people have to get through the ball. Swing it!

    • @BigDawgCAM
      @BigDawgCAM 27 дней назад +1

      I feel most people like myself have an urge to keep their head and chest facing toward the ball. So the rotation ends up being almost a fake rotation that’s more arm adduction than a proper shoulder turn

  • @slytown
    @slytown 8 дней назад

    A note on bigger turn: If you start to slide with a bigger turn in the backswing, you are tilting too much. Gotta flatten that shoulder turn out to get rid of the slide. Conversely, if you are stacked too much on your lead side or got a reverse pivot going, you are probably too flat or lifting in the backswing. Gotta push that lead shoulder down in the takeaway to keep your weight more on your trail side.

    The most useful feel I've heard for getting more width in the backswing and better weight shift was from Danny Maude. He said on the takeaway to imagine you're trying to toss a heavy bag of sand. He mentions you wouldn't just stand there and try to do it with all arms. You load all that weight into your trail side and the body naturally rotates.

      The key is making sure the miss is a one way miss. For me the left miss is much easier to manage than a wide open club face sending the ball right. At higher speed i really only hit the ball right to left, that really helps manage my flight.

      Try hitting less than driver for the first few. 3 wood, 5 wood or even a utility iron. Get those in round jitters out of the way and confidence up.
      I’m a longer hitter for most peoples standards (180+ ball speeds) and there are plenty of rounds where I’m hitting 6 or less drivers per round. Some of that is for course reasons but some of that is during the first few holes just to get in the zone, if needed. YMMV

  • @troyrambo6804
    @troyrambo6804 27 дней назад

    So 20 years ago I was longer off the T with a 43 to 43.5 in driver than I am now. Obviously age has something to do with that but I can still hit 108-110 MPH and feel like I have better contact using shorter shafts and the longer ones leave me feeling like I'm leaving distance out there due to poor contact and the miss hits. Currently at 45 in playing length and standard lie. I've toyed with dropping .75 in and going to the upright setting on my AI smoke TD to get it to an old school setup. Any recommendation about what to do for weight to compensate for that in the head? I already play my 3 and 7 wood's shorter anyway.

    Hey Ian! When you generate a wider turn in your shoulders, do you find yourself taking the eye off the ball? When i work on a bigger shoulder turn i notice one of my eyes can barely see the ball anymore. Are my shoulders not steep enough? Or is it just something you get use to?

    I normally cruise around 160 ball speed and hit it very consistently. I’ve found that if I really snap when I release the club head, I can jump up to 180+ ball speed. The issue for me is that the ball just sprays everywhere when I up the speed.

    Hmm. Weight shift back to the trail leg and breaking the trail arm away and up from that "Hogan elbow" being glued in is pretty contradictory to what my coach instructs. Granted there are many workable swings, but thats quite a lot of variables to work out the timing on 😢 Always been taught that weight forward, lead arm straight, quiet hands, head still, trail elbow glued in and rotate but don't shift weight; stay weight forward.

    Sorry boys but I have to disagree with club head speed being the strongest factor to what a player shoots. I’ve played a lot of golf with a lot of people. All with different levels of skill, speed, strengths and weaknesses. Power, without control, especially off the tee, can be very costly.
    Hitting the ball OB, in a hazard, into the trees, unplayable lies is brutal and can lead to even more strokes as often times players try to get it all back with that next swing.
    The low hanging fruit when it comes to trying to lower your score is eliminating penalty strokes and avoiding 3 putts. I’m sure you noticed almost all of the shots you went after were pull hooks to the left. It looks fine on the simulator but on the course and depending on the design and features of the hole they could be in real trouble. I’m a bit shocked at this video tbh.
