Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Mogadishu, also known as Black Hawk Down.
An attempt by a small US special operations force to apprehend two of Somali warlord Mohamed Farah Aidid’s lieutenants went disastrously wrong when militiamen shot down two Black Hawks helicopters. Rangers and Delta had to rescue crews of Super 6-1 and Super 6-4. The whole raid had turn to search & rescue operation. The tragic event was happened 3-4 October, 1993
The main song is "Gortoz a ran - J'attends" Кино
"Gordy gone man.. I'll be outside. Good luck"
That was Randy's last words. Sad moment :-(

One of my favorite movies of all time. Awesome book.❤
Proud to be a son of a Pakistani soldier who took part in the rescue operation. My dad was a Major at that time and he was a gunner on the cobra gunship helicopter. He has lot of memories of his tenure in Somalia in UN Mission.
I remember he shared one of his painful memory when he was ordered to engage the Somalian jeep having RR and 12.7 mm on it. which was ready to target the UN convey. He told us that when he saw from telescope while sitting on the gunner seat, there were 5 people on it one was a woman having a baby on her lap. They used them as human shield. He refused to hit becoz at that time I was 2 years old and he told us that at that moment I came on his mind and he refused to hit that RR jeep. But when the UN convey got engaged by those people he pressed the red button and the TOW Missile went off from the Cobra. And in few second there was nothing left except the burning wreckage. Real battle was 100 times more bloody then this. WAR IS DEADLY WAR IS PAINFUL.
Respect for the soldiers who lost their lives in Somalia no matter what country they belong.
Much respect to your dad. I can’t imagine how he felt that day. But as an American I personally greatly appreciate him for helping or boys get home. I was 18 when this all happen.
You're talking utter shit pal
Somalis dont use women as human shield, women also fight. stop the BS.
Lifting my hat for your father, we thank his service
@Hamza Khan I’m Somali, you idiot. I live in Mogadishu.

This movie was so visually accurate it made me feel i was there. I had to leave the Theatre several times to catch my breath and had my face covered in tears. Watching it now is still hard to know most of this was able to be avoided if only we had leadership that listened.

Ok
I remember the actual event happening. I grew up in Lincoln, ME and MSG Gary Gordon was a few years ahead of me in school. I would necessarily say I was friends with him, but the few times I did interact with him, he was one of the nicest people I have met. It was definitely a hard hit to the community. Sadly his monument was vandalized in town this year. I guess some of the locals have forget who he was...
Absolutely disgusting bastards. I hope they are found and beaten severely.
Antifa is getting out of hand with their antics. Most of them are stupid kids, who wouldn't recognize real struggle and heroism until it was running over them with a truck and I should know......I used to be just like them.
As long as we remember him it doesn't matter, I can't believe how invested in this battle I am , I was in the army when this happened and it was counted as a disaster , but it was the last time I felt proud to wear a uniform and I was in the british army, these guys are god's a salute to all of them 😔
That is absolutely disgraceful! There’s no such thing as respect or restraint anymore. If there really is a racial bias in the police (there Isn’t btw) then that is not the way to protest it, neither is looting or burning down cities. Vandalizing the monument of an American hero is a slap in the face to anyone proud American citizen
Make them watch the movie couple of times to see what those boys did that day and why there is a monument in the first place
Still painful to see...RIP to the fallen soldiers.
Some soldiers think war is a playground not killing fields

@@nsnv Totally agree with you. I'm not a US citizen, but I respect everyone, who were involved
lots of parts in this movie bring tears
Here is a quote to look through.
In 1993, Aidid's fighters attacked Pakistani UN forces, resulting in 24 dead. The US authorities subsequently put a $25,000 bounty on the faction leader's head and attempted to arrest and try him for war crimes. On October 3, 1993, by the order of President Bill Clinton, a force of United States Army Rangers and Delta Force operators set out to capture several officials of Aidid's militia in an area of Mogadishu controlled by him. Although technically successful, with the capture of several "tier-one personalities", the operation did not completely go as planned. Between 500 and 1500 Somalis, as well as 18 American soldiers and one Malaysian soldier, died in the ensuing Battle of Mogadishu (1993). As a result of a downed Blackhawk air assault helicopter, Warrant Officer-Pilot Michael J. Durant from 160th SOAR was also held captive by militants for 11 days. He recalls in his book, In the Company of Heroes, that he believed that he may have seen General Aidid behind the cameraman as he was being filmed briefly by film reporters during his captivity.

Thankful for all of the brave warriors from all nations who took part in this operation. This movie makes me both sad and proud of the bravery displayed.
You should make a 30th anniversary tribute it would be awesome, thank you man.
I'm so proud when gary gordon and randy shughart defend Mic Durant until the rescue force coming, but the rescue force only gordon and shughart :(
No, Durant was rescued. Gordon and Shughart asked to be dropped in, knowing they would likely die. They held off the crowd for as long as they could. Later, when Shugharts father went to the White House to collect his Medal of Honor, he refused to shake Bill Clintons hand, said his son should've never been there anyways.

Respect the men who fought this battle. Nobody gets left behind...
I saw the film during my tour in Afghanistan as a MEDEVEC helicopter pilot. It's a good film and I got really impressed. EEUU is the first military power nowadays... as it was my country, Spain, some centuries ago. This has a lot of advantages for the people in the mainland but has a great cost in lives abroad. Fathers that will lost their sons, women that will become widows prematurally, sons who will never meet their fathers... It's so sad, but this is how it is. At least americans can appreciate the sacrifice of their heroes and honor them. RIP.

October 3, 1993 I left for the US Army I thought for sure I'd be going somewhere to fight either the Somalis or in Iraq but the 3rd ACR never deployed during my time and ultimately I made one of the most difficult decisions in my life at the time and got out in 97. I stood ready, I am proud to have served.
No regrets. Respect to those who gave it all.
Clinton should hang along with other guilty parties for their failure to act.
My brother in law was listening to the radio traffic that day while serving in the Navy and to this day he is emotional and disturbed by this experience and the failure to act, react, save lives, retaliate, execute and elimate. It hurts me to see him hurt as it does all those who deployed and served.
I'm 46 now and the world has gone crazy, not too old to fight yet.
similar time frames for me too, but I was uk , but this stuck with me ,was last time I was proud to wear my uniform.
