I watch "Band of brothers" every year June 6th. My dad served in W11. This is always a reminder of what war does to our veterans. I proudly fly the flag; grateful for all those serving and all those who fought and died for our freedoms. Thankfully my brother who served in Vietnam made it home.
Some of the most stirring lyrics ever written...."There's so many different worlds, so many different suns, and we have just one world but we live in different ones." Like many of those who have commented below, I find it hard not to tear up when I hear this tune.
I'm the son of a WW2 Normandy Veteran Joseph Grace holder of the military medal for bravery 🇬🇧🇬🇧 They gave everything for our freedom 🇬🇧 Sadly killed on the coal face at Manton Colliery Worksop aged 37 year's ❤️
For my Brothers In Arms, some lost in combat, some lost from just working in a dangerous profession. There is no race, color or creed that separates those who shed blood, sweat and tears under fire. I miss you. I pray we're worthy of your sacrifice. Thanks for the video, well done.
Every time I listen to this song, against any back ground or performed live, I am moved to my very soul by Mark Knopfler's haunting vocals, lyrics and searing guitar which all come together to capture the horror, the human sacrifice and even the goodness of the human spirit that emerge in a time of war, out in the middle of some unknown, never before seen field of battle. As someone who has made this journey myself, the tears come easily in hindsight. Raise your glass to the common foot soldier.
Thank you Mark and the others that made it happen. Old navy vet here and my dad was a WWII vet and POW for 8 months. And i miss him every day. Beautiful song. Thanks again.
My father fought in the second world war, I'm an ex British Army soldier. I talk of my experiences as much as my father did and I understand his silence. 244 people have never been tested and I think I should envy that.
My father served in Europe during WWII and in my 38 years before his passing he never once spoke of it. If you watch the intros to these episodes from Bands of Brothers there are interviews with actual soldiers that were there and you can see that the experiences still haunt them. I once worked for a man that was a B-52 Bomber Pilot . He was 22 years old at the time. I asked him if he ever had nightmares and he said yes. I made the mistake of asking him when he had his last one and he responded " last week"
Stephen Kent : You are right in your comment, and there is not a days goes by when I do not think of all GOOD Soldiers that look after us all. and as you say A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE FORCES that deign to proctect us all.
Forlorn Dream I feel sorry and pain for your family, mine were German and also lost so much, our pain is shared but also wish for you and family to have a great future
Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII. It is my greatest shame that they both passed before I was old enough to understand their sacrifice and say thank you. I have worked alongside Veterans and I have never once met one who thought that war was a good thing, sometimes necessary perhaps, but never good. In my experience those who glorify war have never been near one. War is a horrible thing, a waste of lives. I am grateful for your service, and you are right, those who have never been tested should be grateful of that - I am. Hate the war, Respect the Warrior. Thank you.

We care more about dogs and cats than we do of our brothers and sisters! All the doctors and nurses who died are never thought about, GOD bless them all
I remember listening to this song, the morning after my Dad had suddenly died. It was 1989, I was 17 and years later I still can't listen to this hauntingly beautiful piece without shedding a tear.
My Father, Lt. Col. Philip A Doherty-WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Thank you EVERY SINGLE VETERAN. Godspeed. This song always reminds me how thankful I am to be an American!

I don't know about the other viewers. But I consider Brothers In Arms one of Dire Straits' best songs ever. I get pretty emotional when I hear this tune and listen in on the lyrics. Throw in clips from the Brothers In Arms television series does make it more effective. Good for Canada for Remembrance Day and America for Veteran's Day.

Grow up, turn on your head and start thinking, and don't eat shit from the TV!
Every time I listen to this amazing piece of music, it just rips my guts out, but that doesn't stop me listening to it over and over. This is one hell of a powerful piece of music and it rings all my bells.

This song is one of the best songs ever! I get goose skin when I hear it and when I watch this video the tears of the many fallen young American soldiers come to me during D-Day. Many greetings Mario
You are right, typical American! There are many, many more young men, around the world, who have been forced to kill other young men and to be killed by themself... They were sacrificed for the ego of insane and vain politicians in many senseless wars around the world - not only americans!
This is about the greatest generation ever to live in history. When the dust settled America had lost millions of her own only for the sake of freedom and nothing more, but not one soldier had regret other than they wished they could have done more!
I remember, back at Hereford, when we got the shout, off to Iraq, played this song while l packed, focused the mind, some of us came back, some didn't. Those of us that did, were never the same.. I sometimes play this for my mates
I will never forget hearing that song for the first time as it closed out the album of the same name. I was crying and wondering how a human could write and perform such a perfect song that could evoke such strong emotions.
how many of our brave men serving in the armed forces have shed tears listening to this track thinking of thier fallen comrades? god bless them all RIP
Praying for all the soldiers whose lives were ended far too soon through wars, regardless of Nations or religions, my prayers are for all and prayers also for the Vets that have come back from war and are facing their demons and battles afterwards. May you find healing in body and soul and inner peace. Prayers also for all soldiers of all nations to return to their families and loved ones alive and healthy. Lastly prayers for peace, tolerance and love throughout our world so that wars are something of the past. Don't stop praying to our loving and merciful God, because if we stop that, all is lost. God bless and protect you reading this and everybody else.🌹
Hooaahh. I'm a former U.S. Army Cavalry Scout, and today, 22 Nov. 2017, happens to be the 50 year date my uncle (173rd Airborne) along with alot of his buddies, was KIA in Vietnam during the battles at and around Hill 875. This song, and especially Billy Joel's "Goodnight Saigon" get to me, everytime. God bless our warriors and their loved ones. I'm thankful such people still exist and step up in this shitty world. Scouts out.
And Canadians and Australians and new Zealanders and Indians and south Africans and soviets and every other nation that had soldiers that fought against to the axis, including Dutch, belgian, Norwegian, Danish, French and so on and so forth.
You do know that by resource and manpower used. It was the Red Army that bleed the Germans dry. Same as China pulled most of Japans resources in that part of the war.
We were all soldiers. Americans in Vietnam, Portuguese in Africa. I was in front of Mozambique, in a battalion of hunters. This music fills my heart for years, makes me fill my eyes with tears and brings me to the flower of my skin an immense longing for my youth lost in the four years I spent in the army. From the "high" of my 72 years I already only feel nostalgia and sadness. Sub-lieutenant militiaman of Battalion of Hunters 2894, Mozambique, 1969-1972.
If this song doesn't hit you right in the gut, you don't know how to feel! It hits me hard every time I hear it. It sends me back to a time I sometimes wish I could forget. It brings tears I should have run out of a very long time ago.
These mist covered mountains Are a home now for me But my home is the lowlands And always will be Some day you'll return to Your valleys and your farms And you'll no longer burn To be brothers in arms Through these fields of destruction Baptisms of fire I've witnessed your suffering As the battles raged higher And though we were hurt so bad In the fear and alarm You did not desert me My brothers in arms There's so many different worlds So many different suns And we have just one world But we live in different ones Now the sun's gone to hell And the moon's riding high Let me bid you farewell Every man has to die But it's written in the starlight And every line in your palm We're fools to make war On our brothers in arms
Scenes from Band of Brothers used in the video. Easy company is the company that met up with my Dad's unit. That poor 101st took a hell of a beating. Many heroes lost. My Dad was 358th Infantry 90 Division of Patton's 3rd Army. He was my hero and still is even though he's gone.
Both 82nd, and 101st, my husband was a "MASTER BLASTER" ....he is 77 now but when he shows our grands, and great grands that map where he made more than 700 jumps around the world...they are fascinated. He "sees" still most vividly his time in 'Nam....even in his dreams....:(
Une très forte pensé pour tous ces héros tombés pour nous rendre notre liberté ! Une magnifique chanson qui nous charge d'émotion ! Je ne me lasse pas de l'écouter !
Love this song, even though it hurts to listen. Vietnam never bothered me, but I miss my brothers. War is a forge, and no man who has been untested will never truly know life.
To all my brothers-in-arms, regardless of your uniform - "We are fools to wage war on our brothers-in-arms" - We who have worn the uniform know the band of brothers we form. And we who have worn the uniform know the horror and hell of war. "No one desires peace as much as the soldier, for he must pay the greatest penalty in war". To peace my brothers!
Amazing song! man, that guitar... this voice, both mix in an extraordinary way telling the sad story of brotherhood of humans fighting to survive the unsurvivable nature of war.
I love this piece of music Brothers in Arms, composed by Mark Knopfler to commemorate a soldier who died in the Falklands, in the war, between Britain & Argentina. I thought Band of Brothers was also excellent, completely debunking the idea that War is a glorious. Today is Remembrance Day when we quietly remember just how many people died or who came home damaged in body or mind, it is not a day for glorifying war.
Don't know why I always thought this was about the Viet war. War here, war there, which moron thinks war is glorious? To generally come back totally different than when you left.
What a fantastic song by Mark Knopfler. I actually drew massive inspiration from this song for my own film which is based within The Falklands War, which can be found on my channel. The song really helped me visualise what The Falklands War must have been like and enabled me vast amounts of creativity for the film. Without this song, the film would never have been made. Kudos to Mark for the inspiration 👍🏻
In my opinion this is one of the best songs ever made. We played this at my dad's funeral at his request followed by "Always look on the bright side of life!" by Monty Python. lmfao!
I have the most respect and admiration for those who put their lives in front of war or public safety. We all should be grateful. I also believe many wars have been fought for the wrong reasons. My grandparents lived the civil war in Spain (1936-1939 - Franco) and war probes that man can do the most horrible things against each other, yet the most compassionate things at the same time. We are still a very young species and we have yet to look at history to learn from our mistakes. Cooperation, not competition, ensures survival of species. We are one race, the human race. War should only be in museums. Peace
I thank all those who gave their tomorrows for my today's and my children's My dad fought in W.W.2. What hurts must is what's happening now in the U.S. and Europe and what the elites are doing to our countries . I think of how so many of the elites made and still make money from wars and have our heroes died for nothing? I want to thank you Ernie,I admire decent men like you and all your comrades.
The aircrew who flew the soldiers to the drop zones, showed fantastic courage too. And were unsung heroes.
That this continues into 2023, tears a hole in my heart. How long have we as humans been on this planet and have only come this far. God save us.

the best war song for all wars
Let us all remember the fallen and those fighting and dying still.
As a former soldier/veteran of Northern Ireland I love this song , but it chokes me up also every time !
Years ago we watched Band of Brothers religiously in British Infantry training. They were the standard to live up to

Band of Brothers, a brilliant series, couldn't have been sung & played better than Mark Knoffler & Dire Straights!

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though we were hurt so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

May your dad RIP. And thank you to him for his service. Soon there will be no one left from the "Greatest Generation". Sad, indeed.

Thank God for your dad;s service. He was a hero.
+sokodad I'm truly sorry for your loss. Hang in there.
Niech zawsze będzie pokój i żeby zawsze Mark śpiewał tak pięknie o braterstwie
❤👍🍻
Grace and Peace to You my Friend
Such a haunting tune! Absolutely timeless classic.....
Love this song, even though it hurts to listen. Vietnam never bothered me, but I miss my brothers. War is a forge, and no man who has been untested will never truly know life.
Thnx for everyobody who served.......still stucked in 94 in Kosvo.....best video and music compilation
Well done. Keep hero worship alive.
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE Anglo - American FORCES that fought for our LIBERTY!!
gotta be smoking back Afghan to write this
Thanks to all Veterans everywhere !!!
Thank you
Respect
Amazing band, awesome song.. unforgettable video! Thank you for posting..
Mais que cette chanson, que dis-je cet hymne est sublime!
this song should exist in the 40`s. Damn bring tears in my eyes to remember our vets in ww2
Well written
when i listen to this, my heart bleeds from all those who gave their lives for me, our vets are warriors and blessed souls.
Mark Knopfler is such a great talent.
We are here because of the sacrifice of those fallen while defending us
We must never betray them in apathy.....
Our debt to them imesurable
What a fantastic song by Mark Knopfler. I actually drew massive inspiration from this song for my own film which is based within The Falklands War, which can be found on my channel. The song really helped me visualise what The Falklands War must have been like and enabled me vast amounts of creativity for the film. Without this song, the film would never have been made. Kudos to Mark for the inspiration 👍🏻
In my opinion this is one of the best songs ever made. We played this at my dad's funeral at his request followed by "Always look on the bright side of life!" by Monty Python. lmfao!
Natahlia smith I think I would have liked your Dad. 👍🏻

What music Very ecxellent
What music Very ecxellent and
Very good
I have the most respect and admiration for those who put their lives in front of war or public safety. Peace
Indeed a deep n amazing song... highlighting the plight of soldiers who just want to go to their homes, to their loved ones.
The UNIVERSAL Soldier. Masterpiece !
I love this song. I listen to it late at night, and miss the old days.
this song makes me cry...
me too...
RIP my dearest Buddy. Thanks for your bravery and your service. To all our service members and our four-legged heroes. God bless you all.💔👍🙏
