For my Brothers In Arms, some lost in combat, some lost from just working in a dangerous profession. There is no race, color or creed that separates those who shed blood, sweat and tears under fire. I miss you. I pray we're worthy of your sacrifice. Thanks for the video, well done.
I watch "Band of brothers" every year June 6th. My dad served in W11. This is always a reminder of what war does to our veterans. I proudly fly the flag; grateful for all those serving and all those who fought and died for our freedoms. Thankfully my brother who served in Vietnam made it home.
My father fought in the second world war, I'm an ex British Army soldier. I talk of my experiences as much as my father did and I understand his silence. 244 people have never been tested and I think I should envy that.
My father served in Europe during WWII and in my 38 years before his passing he never once spoke of it. If you watch the intros to these episodes from Bands of Brothers there are interviews with actual soldiers that were there and you can see that the experiences still haunt them. I once worked for a man that was a B-52 Bomber Pilot . He was 22 years old at the time. I asked him if he ever had nightmares and he said yes. I made the mistake of asking him when he had his last one and he responded " last week"
Stephen Kent : You are right in your comment, and there is not a days goes by when I do not think of all GOOD Soldiers that look after us all. and as you say A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE FORCES that deign to proctect us all.
Forlorn Dream I feel sorry and pain for your family, mine were German and also lost so much, our pain is shared but also wish for you and family to have a great future
Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII. It is my greatest shame that they both passed before I was old enough to understand their sacrifice and say thank you. I have worked alongside Veterans and I have never once met one who thought that war was a good thing, sometimes necessary perhaps, but never good. In my experience those who glorify war have never been near one. War is a horrible thing, a waste of lives. I am grateful for your service, and you are right, those who have never been tested should be grateful of that - I am. Hate the war, Respect the Warrior. Thank you.
Some of the most stirring lyrics ever written...."There's so many different worlds, so many different suns, and we have just one world but we live in different ones." Like many of those who have commented below, I find it hard not to tear up when I hear this tune.
My Father, Lt. Col. Philip A Doherty-WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Thank you EVERY SINGLE VETERAN. Godspeed. This song always reminds me how thankful I am to be an American!
Heard this long ago...Love this song! I'm an old Artillery Sgt. I can no longer hear this on RUclips but I can hear this in my mind...I'm totally DEAF now.....Dire straights Rocks!
+Ernie Pridemore My name is Magnus Johansson from Sweden, and I am sorry for your deafness :( But as you said: You keep the Beautiful in your mind and memory. God bless you!! :) Have a nice day. Peace!!

Daniel Elad from Israel wrote: 30 years have gone by, and this incredibly sensitive piece of art still moves me to tears. The minimal-yet-deep lyrics, the almost-whispered singing as if mourning a loved one, the crying guitar riffs that sting the heart in perfect contrast to the restrained singing, the church-like synth cords, the soft drumming and caressing bass line, and all this accompanied by one of the classiest animation-videos of all times. This is the ultimate lamentation on the sheer display of human stupidity which we call war
Every time I listen to this amazing piece of music, it just rips my guts out, but that doesn't stop me listening to it over and over. This is one hell of a powerful piece of music and it rings all my bells.
Every time I listen to this song, against any back ground or performed live, I am moved to my very soul by Mark Knopfler's haunting vocals, lyrics and searing guitar which all come together to capture the horror, the human sacrifice and even the goodness of the human spirit that emerge in a time of war, out in the middle of some unknown, never before seen field of battle. As someone who has made this journey myself, the tears come easily in hindsight. Raise your glass to the common foot soldier.
I remember listening to this song, the morning after my Dad had suddenly died. It was 1989, I was 17 and years later I still can't listen to this hauntingly beautiful piece without shedding a tear.
And Canadians and Australians and new Zealanders and Indians and south Africans and soviets and every other nation that had soldiers that fought against to the axis, including Dutch, belgian, Norwegian, Danish, French and so on and so forth.
You do know that by resource and manpower used. It was the Red Army that bleed the Germans dry. Same as China pulled most of Japans resources in that part of the war.
I don't know about the other viewers. But I consider Brothers In Arms one of Dire Straits' best songs ever. I get pretty emotional when I hear this tune and listen in on the lyrics. Throw in clips from the Brothers In Arms television series does make it more effective. Good for Canada for Remembrance Day and America for Veteran's Day.
which freedom is Nicloas talking about?? So after all this troop and war glorification..... what has been achieved in Afghanistan, Lybia, Irak? ..... God fuck the troops. I served and regard it as the most wasted time of my life.
@Reece B And if this Islamic culture fucks you? And well, if you die there, and if you remain a cripple and bring problems to your loved ones and you will not have a normal life? And in the name of what is it all? Muslims climb into your country across the southern border? Or are they taking drugs, or are Muslim gangs getting in the way of your cities from living? Grow up, turn on your head and start thinking, and don't eat shit from the TV!

Praying for all the soldiers whose lives were ended far too soon through wars, regardless of Nations or religions, my prayers are for all and prayers also for the Vets that have come back from war and are facing their demons and battles afterwards. May you find healing in body and soul and inner peace. Prayers also for all soldiers of all nations to return to their families and loved ones alive and healthy. Lastly prayers for peace, tolerance and love throughout our world so that wars are something of the past. Don't stop praying to our loving and merciful God, because if we stop that, all is lost. God bless and protect you reading this and everybody else.🌹
This was my brothers favourite song which we will play at his funeral in a couple of weeks time.He sadly lost his fight with Covid on Wednesday. God bless Stephen xx
This song is one of the best songs ever! I get goose skin when I hear it and when I watch this video the tears of the many fallen young American soldiers come to me during D-Day. Many greetings Mario
You are right, typical American! There are many, many more young men, around the world, who have been forced to kill other young men and to be killed by themself... They were sacrificed for the ego of insane and vain politicians in many senseless wars around the world - not only americans!
This is about the greatest generation ever to live in history. When the dust settled America had lost millions of her own only for the sake of freedom and nothing more, but not one soldier had regret other than they wished they could have done more!
Afghani interpreters who worked with Canadian forces in Afghanistan are to be given residency status in Canada. Brotherhood in arms is sharing the same destiny on the battle field. You do not leave a brother behind on a battle field, even as a corpse...
In my opinion this is one of the best songs ever made. We played this at my dad's funeral at his request followed by "Always look on the bright side of life!" by Monty Python. lmfao!
Mark you really nailed it! My husband at the time was in Vietnam and didn"t see our daughter until she was 8 Months old! No cell phones, no phone calls, only the Red Cross notified him...
Scenes from Band of Brothers used in the video. Easy company is the company that met up with my Dad's unit. That poor 101st took a hell of a beating. Many heroes lost. My Dad was 358th Infantry 90 Division of Patton's 3rd Army. He was my hero and still is even though he's gone.

I will never forget hearing that song for the first time as it closed out the album of the same name. I was crying and wondering how a human could write and perform such a perfect song that could evoke such strong emotions.
Love this song, even though it hurts to listen. Vietnam never bothered me, but I miss my brothers. War is a forge, and no man who has been untested will never truly know life.
If this song doesn't hit you right in the gut, you don't know how to feel! It hits me hard every time I hear it. It sends me back to a time I sometimes wish I could forget. It brings tears I should have run out of a very long time ago.

+Hameed OskooE Interesting that you say "Golden Age". Growing up I was taught that "Golden Age" was 30s and 40s. Later the radio stations called "Golden Oldies" the 50s, then later as time passed was the 60s. As the years pass what is called "Golden" moves forwards. I dare say that someday folks will say 2015 was "Golden Oldies". ;-)
I have the most respect and admiration for those who put their lives in front of war or public safety. We all should be grateful. I also believe many wars have been fought for the wrong reasons. My grandparents lived the civil war in Spain (1936-1939 - Franco) and war probes that man can do the most horrible things against each other, yet the most compassionate things at the same time. We are still a very young species and we have yet to look at history to learn from our mistakes. Cooperation, not competition, ensures survival of species. We are one race, the human race. War should only be in museums. Peace
My heart goes out to each and every solder, whatever nationality he/she might be. We need no wars. We want our sons, daughters, husbands and wives to be alive by our sides. Fuck misleading politicians.
What a fantastic song by Mark Knopfler. I actually drew massive inspiration from this song for my own film which is based within The Falklands War, which can be found on my channel. The song really helped me visualise what The Falklands War must have been like and enabled me vast amounts of creativity for the film. Without this song, the film would never have been made. Kudos to Mark for the inspiration 👍🏻
This song is just a good song!! Big thanks to all the soldier. (The soldiers who left the world because they get killed in action R.I.P. We all Thank you!
+Gheto Hacke r Thank them for what exactly? Well then I thank the soldiers who killed them and got shot later in battle for protecting their home and their values. You get why your statement is a bit ridiculous? War is Shit. Always. Everywhere.
Gheto Hacke r So you find that killing someone for your own subjective values and percieved security is something honorable, and even more so when you die in the process? neat philosophy, bro
To all my brothers-in-arms, regardless of your uniform - "We are fools to wage war on our brothers-in-arms" - We who have worn the uniform know the band of brothers we form. And we who have worn the uniform know the horror and hell of war. "No one desires peace as much as the soldier, for he must pay the greatest penalty in war". To peace my brothers!
I have the album on dual layer SACD, so I can enjoy it in full 5.1 should I choose. This song is so somber and moving, the perfect closer for a great album.
“All men die; few men ever really live. ...Without a great battle in which a man can live and die, the fierce part of his nature goes underground and sort of simmers there in a sullen anger that seems to have no reason.” (John Elderedge, Wild at Heart, 2010)
I SALUTE, THE SOLDIERS THAT SACRAFICED THEIR LIVES, NOT IN VAIN. IN MEMORY OF JAMES E. ROBERTS AND HENRY JONES BROTHERS/FIRST COUSINS IN ARMS. THANK YOU FOR SERVICE. ALL OF YOU. YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTON, THANK YOU!!!!!!!
Amazing song! man, that guitar... this voice, both mix in an extraordinary way telling the sad story of brotherhood of humans fighting to survive the unsurvivable nature of war.
I thank all those who gave their tomorrows for my today's and my children's My dad fought in W.W.2. What hurts must is what's happening now in the U.S. and Europe and what the elites are doing to our countries . I think of how so many of the elites made and still make money from wars and have our heroes died for nothing? I want to thank you Ernie,I admire decent men like you and all your comrades.
That this continues into 2023, tears a hole in my heart. How long have we as humans been on this planet and have only come this far. God save us.

Thank God for your dad;s service. He was a hero.
+sokodad I'm truly sorry for your loss. Hang in there.
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though we were hurt so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
ramiz110 thank you!
There's so many different words
So many different songs

I will never forget hearing that song for the first time as it closed out the album of the same name. I was crying and wondering how a human could write and perform such a perfect song that could evoke such strong emotions.
You become a true brother in combat. Rip to the lives lost everyday
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL THE Anglo - American FORCES that fought for our LIBERTY!!

Whoever put this video with this song, you did a great job indeed. It gives us which never served a good idea of what they don't talk about.
This is the most masculine song ever written and played.

Peace
I'm S.Sgt.Love this song!Never forget my fallen Brothers in Arms!!!
We are here because of the sacrifice of those fallen while defending us
We must never betray them in apathy.....
Our debt to them imesurable
My heart goes out to each and every solder, whatever nationality he/she might be. We need no wars. We want our sons, daughters, husbands and wives to be alive by our sides. Fuck misleading politicians.
What a fantastic song by Mark Knopfler. I actually drew massive inspiration from this song for my own film which is based within The Falklands War, which can be found on my channel. The song really helped me visualise what The Falklands War must have been like and enabled me vast amounts of creativity for the film. Without this song, the film would never have been made. Kudos to Mark for the inspiration 👍🏻
Thank you Dad.... Arne O Espedal... Shout out to the heros that we never met and still never forget
The juke box played this in our pub, music of my time, great times
What a great song. what a great rock group.
Always. Everywhere.
+sthngo that is the same i sad
Gheto Hacke r So you find that killing someone for your own subjective values and percieved security is something honorable, and even more so when you die in the process?
neat philosophy, bro
Amazing band, awesome song.. unforgettable video! Thank you for posting..
A tear-jerking, classic homage....to our 'brother-in-arms.'.....
A great song to remember the brave man off the 101 Airborne the always live in my heart
T
To all my brothers-in-arms, regardless of your uniform - "We are fools to wage war on our brothers-in-arms" - We who have worn the uniform know the band of brothers we form. And we who have worn the uniform know the horror and hell of war. "No one desires peace as much as the soldier, for he must pay the greatest penalty in war". To peace my brothers!
Music that never ages
Hi Terry!
Terry Tanktop Just like wine, as it ages it gets better.
I have the album on dual layer SACD, so I can enjoy it in full 5.1 should I choose.
This song is so somber and moving, the perfect closer for a great album.
War is so wrong on all counts.
This song makes me choke with emotion.
me to, best anti war song ever written
Salute! Remember! Never Forget!
As a veteran, I cry like a freaking baby listening to this awesome song.
👊🏻
Let it all
Let it all out ! You’ve earned it !
