Thanks again for the video - I've watched the video before when you attached a 4 x 4 to a wall. The back of the bottom fence looked very well in the sunshine, ironic after the downpour...

Thanks Ian, yes the fence paint turned out well considering the weather, but it was actually quite warm, so the paint was drying fairly quickly. That thunderstorm only lasted a few minutes thankfully ! Thanks for the comment 👍

I just paint all the wood first before constructing the fence and I use creocote, much better protection

My original plan was to do that, but always struggle for time due to other projects, so had no option but to do it whilst on the job in this case. Also saves double handling to some extent. The client specifically asked for Cuprinol Forest Oak on this particular job as that is what the rest of the fencing and garden furniture was coated with. I have not used the new style Creocote before - is it any good now that all the nasty chemicals have been banned from standard cresote ? Thanks for the comment 👍

Double handling is a good point. If you're running a business it's not the most efficient method. Creocote is still messy, stinky, sticky stuff but it soaks into the wood rather than forming a layer like the water based crap that pervades the market. It means you don't have to repaint every year or two.

Nice job. Do you ratio of slat width to gap or do you just use a fixed gap width?
Must admit I creosote all my fencing, old skool lol.

Thanks, I always use a set gap for the face of the fence (i.e the side with no posts) in this case it was a 32mm gap (old bit of fence rail that I use as a spacer). On the rear side of the fence I just centralise the slats by eye because if you use a spacer again, you can end up getting "creep" where by the time you get to the end of the fence, slats can end up way off centre.
It is rare that I paint fences for clients but in this case it was an elderly lady who lied alone, so I felt obligated ! Thanks for the comment

Cracking video! What Dewalt reciprocating saw model do you use?

Thanks Stuart, I use the Flexvolt 54v DCS388 model - it is awesome. I have the 18v version as well, but the 54v is SO much more powerful and perfect for fencing. Thanks for the comment 👍
