I love you guys. Dustin and I are working on what we want to change in 2024. I'll see you then. In the mean time, make sure you sign up for free clips and the $25 givewaway ► bit.ly/SenpaiSizzlegg
Yoo mate what do you think is the best Gaming Mouse for someone who doesnt like honey comb patteren or any type of holes in the mouse i have been looking at the steelseries prime wireless since to mee it looks pretty good but i am also thinking about just going with the superlight 2 because i have the normal superlight and dont really know what to pick because every mouse people recommend has the holes and i just cant stand them
I'm not a streamer but I watch one a lot and it seems to me that honesty and care and a lack of concern about the money/# of viewers are very attractive qualities. IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING THAT ENGAGES PEOPLE, then be honest and caring and end the stream when you are tired, so that you can care when you come back next time. I feel intuitively that the primary factor that makes a stream a success is whether the streamer has something of interest to engage in - not necessarily even content, it could be answering questions from viewers, or even showing viewers' contributions - and all the devices to make people sub or watch longer are counter-productive, the viewers feel used and the streamer gets tired and cynical. A fresh approach of being totally genuine and open, on top of having something of interest to stream about, and being able to engage the viewers consistently during the stream, would benefit both sides, I think, and probably grow the channel organically rather solidly, at a guess. But I have no idea what you would stream about, you've helped me a ton with getting a microphone, but I wouldn't watch streams about tech gear because it's not my world. I have the mic now. :)
I managed to make it on Twitch by being positive and creative in RUclips shorts. My work may be an exception to the rule but it shows you can have an exception. Not all hope is lost just gotta keep making cool things.
You also need to give yourself some props for being a genuinely interesting dude and also being super transparent with how you manage your Twitch, subs, mods and what the money goes to. One of the great come ups of 2023 in my opinion.
You got a sexy voice and are a great storyteller along with just being an overly talented dude that comes from a lot of hard work and experience. Love your content
When you were talking about being more excited about making stuff for streamers than actually streaming. It reminds me of a transition from sports player to coach. Your not playing the game as much, but your help those that still are.
I honestly think Discord is going to make a play for the real streaming space in the next couple of years. Streaming is a feature, it doesn't need to be the whole platform, and they're already winning so hard at all of the other features that matter (community-oriented ones and financial support).
Instead of going live, which I never did with consistency due to life getting in the way, I'm having more fun just recording entire play sessions and then creating shorts/reels/tiktoks from the clips I find. Shoutout to you and all the other creators who are doing things they want to do and enjoy doing.
Happy for you man! I wanted to say I appreciate you leaving this comment and sharing your journey. I’ve been on the fence on how whether to stream or make videos like you mentioned. All that to say, reading your comment is the hint I needed on what I should start doing. Thanks again. :)
Crazy enough one thing you mentioned gets me. As someone who streams to 0 people it is very very easy to say, I will just do it tomorrow. I'm still trying to break that as well so it's good to hear that even seasoned streamers go through that. Thanks for all you do! Excited for what's next!!
Same, I stream to YT and Twitch at the same time just to get that sweet sweet interaction I switch to streaming from editing for. Editing is/was hella fun. And for what I had at the time, I tried to make the videos as whacky as possible with edits that went well with the clip. But after a while of seeing low numbers below 10, not a lot of comments on how people felt aside from the occasional friends commenting because they were on it. I started to feel like getting the "content" out right away along with being able to talk to people was a fine trade-off compared to the fun "I" at least had chuckling at my own edits.
I think the point made about ROI on drama vs ROI on good content is something I've been wrestling with for a while now. As a creator myself, it's honestly exhausting seeing the deluge of absurdity on social feeds from people just doing whatever they can to cause a problem and get posted everywhere. This channel has been a constant source of light and inspiration for me since it's inception, and I can only expect more of the same moving into 2024. Happy New Year Senpai team and Harris!
I think its important to constantly reflect on your "why" as a creator. I'm a teacher and create content with the intention of helping other teachers get better at their job, because my why is that I want future generations to be simply better than ours. I can only impact so many students in my teaching career, but by creating content I'm able to reach (indirectly) a much larger number of students. When I remember this why, it's easy for me to block out all the noise and drama, and focus on solely on good, quality, helpful content. My point is, if you're providing value (even if its entertainment), that should be enough. Anything else is just being disingenuous to yourself.
I fell the same way! I've only been doing this for about 3 years but the last 6-9 months I've just kept saying "I'll go live tomorrow". Between 4 kids, a full time job and a marriage to take care of streaming has taken a back burner. It's also been because when I was going live I didn't have a consistent schedule so my views were going down. And then I was getting randoms coming in and trying to bait me to say something controversial or inappropriate. I loved streaming and I've met so many new friends who I wouldn't have met if I didn't stream. I'm hoping I can get back to streaming after the new year but for now just going into my friends streams or gaming with them off stream will keep me happy. Thank you for being real and letting us know that we're not the only ones having these feelings.
Harris, I am not a streamer and I don't watch Twitch much (I am old 🤣🤣🤣) but I love your channel and your positivity. The reviews and your takes are excellent and I used your suggestions to set up my own little video space for fun. Just appreciate you man and wishing you and the team all the best for 2024.
You obviously haven't heard about the Skyrim Grandma. A wonderful 87 year old grandma who plays Skyrim on stream and is just a sweetheart. I'm 49 and I stream, and I know people older than I do that do as well. It's not about age, it's about attitude.
thank you so much for everything this year, you've helped my streaming go from a casual thing to an actual part-time gig to support my life and schooling. a year ago i never would have guessed this, so excited to go into 2024 and see what you share next!
I wanted to get into streaming earlier this year but got cold feet. All the platform/creator drama didn’t help either. Then a few months ago, I started streaming once a week and it’s a lot of fun! Wish I did it sooner
I feel like the reason Twitch is so susceptible to "exploitative streams" is because there is no "quality" in discucoverability. Its solely about numbers of viewers and that ONLY rewards shock and outrage. This is 100% Twotch's fault, they have had years to fix this but refuse. If the video about drawing boobas was on twitch it would be on everyones front page but RUclips dont recomend that same content due to an advanced algorithm
Well said. Any platform that exclusively rewards raw viewership is just asking to be exploited, it's absolutely something Twitch has had many chances to improve but has chosen not to.
The main issue IS discoverability, part of which is ALSO robust filtering for the content you want. "Exploitative" content isn't a thing - and it's good that twitch doesn't want to get rid of it. They just need to make it easy to wall off for those who don't want to (or shouldn't by age) see it. It's nice Twitch has the most adult (mature) take on things, especially compared to RUclips, which is obsessed with pleasing advertisers and staying "normal-boring"... While also screwing themselves over by favoring high-dollar creators over what's actually right and fair.
Great video Harris! Honestly I have been on that "I'll go live tomorrow" for a while now that it kinda became a routine for me. I wanna change that this year, go back to doing content so i can grow my channel but without this current "meta" or controversies.
This video just has a vibe that just makes me wanna try streaming again. That drive I had sank away and watching your videos always made me feel like I could make it one day. I'm currently working on some life things at the moment but after watching this has rekindled in a way my drive to try again but try what your doing start small and set a day and time to really give it another shot. So thank you Harris for all you do and keep up the great work!
Been feeling the same lately, it definitely feels like there has been an increase in drama this year. People looking for the negative sides of anything and generating these echo chambers to greatly amplify the negativity of a situation rather than taking a step back and analyzing the different perspectives. Where people are more arguing (sometimes attacking) rather than debating topics I suppose. Not having the drive to stream because its just too much time and energy towards a space/general mindset I don't necessary agree with. I just want to be a good peep, bring positivity and connect with other cool peeps without the drama or feeling to add a disclaimer of some kind to any public posting. Would definitely be interested in watching and being part of a conversation about this Thanks for the 2023 content, and looking forward to see what 2024 brings! Happy New Years
I've been streaming on twitch for 5 years and man you hit so many good points here. I am still an affiliate and i usually stream guitar or drums but sometimes games. After covid everyone is a streamer so most of my old audience is that now. I loved twitch for the first year or so and its slowly gone downhill to now i cant even break 5-10 viewers without a raid. Alot of other streamers I thought were friends have either quit and deleted accounts, or they just never come by even though i go to there streams quite often. The discoverability in music is just gross and i think we should have categories for different instruments.
Thank you for this video. I forgot why I enjoyed watching streams and why I started streaming in the first place. Just last week I added sounds to my stream and when I went through the sounds I found so many troll songs like "hey Kappa" and "raining tacos" and it reminded me of all the good memories I made with some streamers and all the laughs we had. I added those sounds and hopefully I can bring back just having fun in streams again.
You nailed it on several bullets. The reality of it is that it all comes down to one word…. “Entertainment”. Top streamers noticed pushing the boundary limits of what is ban able creates views. People just love drama, speculation and controversies.
This is fascinating, as I thought my disinterest in streaming and making videos lately was just one of my burn out phases. But upon deeper inspection, I think you’re right. I have lost interest because it seems like the only way to make it as a successful content creator these days is to start a fight with other creators or do something very drastic… and the past 6 weeks I have started to play games (not my channel niche) that I am interested in and not making videos or streaming. It’s a sad thing to realize…and it’s now evident to me that this only hurts the creativity and drive of other content creators.
Don't feel guilty. It makes sense. There's no point putting in the crazy amount of effort and time into growing now. Not when some random girl can say uwu one time and become a multi millionaire overnight from OF. One day I might start streaming again. But for the past few years and right now I can't. I also gave up on twitch years ago.
It's all in essence broken down to the 'quantity over quality' streaming culture. It stems from the partner goals on twitch to everything else. Imagine if a stream was a 2 hour TV show style stream. Well planned, excellent content for 2 hours. That would be re-watchable. Nobody is out there watching VODs of an 8 hour stream with ads, breaks, chatting breaks and just general downtime. I don't know what the fix is but that in my opinion is the larger issue.
Keep up the great work, I'm not usually the one that leaves comments but I'm really glad people can relate on your content to improve quality and be more professional on stream and content creation in general. Happy 2024! Excited to see what's coming next!
Hey Harris, I know this primarily Twitch/Gaming content shared and viewed here - but is there any content for those of us that also fall into the music creator category? Struggling artist over here, 3rd attempt to make something from the art professional - and just at a loss for where to even go these days. Soundcloud and Bandcamp arent what they used to be for undiscovered talent - and TikTok is morbidly overcrowded. What can someone like myself do?
Yep, I burnt out on the drama and decline awhile ago. So I understand that sentiment. I got hit with covid and health concerns around that and just never got back to the schedule of streaming. I have been thinking about "event streaming" recently, as I still make art nearly daily. So, I may do some streams around the release of an image or product, but I honestly think that approach is a nice way to connect with the community you build elsewhere. Good luck on getting back to the passion, I hope you find it!
I hit burnout one year ago and it’s the drama, racism, rage bait and just everything in between with Twitch is why I’m forking over my Twitch Affiliate and moving to RUclips where you can find other creative vtubers in this space. I’m just done with Twitch, like I will watch a very small amount of streamers on it but I’m not making content on it. I hope this makes sense
Not enjoying streaming is okay. It's a back and forth and our lives always pull away. Like your new project. I'm excited to see what you are bringing to the world ~Riku
I feel ya on a lot points in this video and instead of diving into it lets just say next year is a new year and its right around the corner stay safe have fun
It's a fad. Every individual form of (digital) media goes through this. RUclips, twitter, journal/blog sites, tumbler, facebook, hell, even email had this issue in the late 90s/early 2000s. It always comes, people catch on, get annoyed by it, bail from it, then the trendy thing becomes those that make fun of it (much like you are doing now) where, after some time, THAT becomes more common than the thing they are mocking. This has a result of that original trend slowly deminishing into a minimal space (comparatively) because the new meta always becomes: "Hey, look at us fellow kids, we aren't that thing you hate" meanwhile they are secretly in the background absolutely willing to be that thing if it got them good profits _(insert ill-advised joke about corporate pride month here)._ The leafies, the ricegums, the keemstars. They always are living on barrowed time. The only people that remain who act like that will be those who can attract simps or are just too stupid to quit. I'll let the reader decide which camp someone like XQC would fall in on.
Regardless of everything going on, Harris you are a smart and level-headed creator who has helped so many of us. I think your value goes way beyond streaming, and has done for several years - it's not 'bad' for you to not want to stream much. You're ingrained in this community, a pillar of kindness and sense. I'm excited to see what other things you have in the works, these 'products' sound like they are going to be brilliant - as everything you seem to produce is. I wish Twitch would listen to you more, I think Dan Clancy is great and is definitely trying his best - but as we all know, the corporate world is a difficult one to navigate. Your videos I'm sure have been helping. Any time you come to YT and talk about things that are going on; your viewers KNOW what they are getting; solid advice, reasonable and achievable 'takes'. Keep it up
I have tried so hard this year. I’m talking like live streaming drone footage and high quality IRL stuff. The only thing that worked was putting a pixel blur filter over my tan clothes. Bleh.
For live streams.. i think the difference between on demand videos to live streams is of your going to watch a live stream it's a for me a dedication because i want to interact, comment, and socialize... And it's hard to do that in a overly busy channel or a streamer that can only catch 1 out of 20 messages because the chat is so much. For on demand videos i can watch, pause, and un pause when ever i want.. Long story short, I'm only diving into twitch when i know i won't be interrupted by my kids or wife..
I can relate to what you said SO much.. I feel a lot of twitch streamers are mostly standing out with drama, hate, nudity etc and it changes the people drawn to the platform. And I noticed how much streamers try to network as a business strategy for dear life. I started to distance myself from those folks, focusing on myself and my community, doing my own thing. I kind of miss the feeling of playing games with friends and like-minded people without all the other stuff happening.. I try to live what I'd like to see more of on the platform - just playing games and talking to my people. Anyway, Happy New Year Harris, and thanks for another video!
Based af. The Constant chase for outrage clips has turned me off so much. I'm probably a degenerate myself, but even I'm tired of this shit. I feel like focusing on videos more.
Absolutely agree. Instead of looking for a fun time to ENJOY AND BE HAPPY with others while doing something you love…. More and more people get off on creating or consuming toxic/hateful/trolling/bullying behavior and its just creating more and more of a divide between us. Love that all your creative videos are full of positivity while still staying real with yourself and your audience. Thanks
Just Chatting top streams now consists of 5 topless women and AI Jesus. Feel like if I even look back at Twitch to stream, I'll be turned into a pillar of salt.
Twitch... Where "artistic nudity" was actually considered a good idea, but having your different communities come together on the on screen chat is a bannable offense...
I tried live streaming for a couple of weeks and then quit. I pulled in viewers fairly quickly but the time it takes to is just too much for me personally. I like making vids cuz you can push that pause button and take a break. I might go back to Twitch, but I'm still debating on it. Keep up the good work. You seem like a genuine and kind person and I wish you the best in your career :)
Man I been listening to you for the last 3 or 4 years and this is first time I needed to comment. Thank you for being vulnerable. And real. Your previous work has all been legit and filled with good information. But being vulnerable like this is a good look for you. So I have a thing im trying to create. I think this thing is going to make a lot of money and change a lot of lives. I feel like I should invite you along. I'm in way over my head in this.. most people I share it with get overwhelmed because of the enormousness of this . I think you might be able to see my vision. It's an eco system for musicians and creators . Connecting people. Giving people their data back and giving them more of the money then before
I get what you're saying, Twitch has changed.... I've even noticed it in our small Belgian Twitch streaming community... The drama is taking over and the thing I'm most disappointed in is that people are loving the drama. I miss the days when we were more connected and supportive... ok there was a little competition but it was friendly and fun... now some of the streamers are getting pretty nasty with comments and the viewers are following in their example... It's a shame that it's getting such a toxic vibe On an other note, I can't wait to see what you are building with aitum. Sounds like a lot of fun working on it, cause you really light up when you talk about it.
You are spot on! It sucks so much that people worth a damn get overshadowed by people getting amazing growth and eyes on people who do what works the best with little work and creativity. I DON'T go live anymore for the same reason you are. ALSO i am working on a last ditch effort to stream again once a week. I also working on streaming epic events ive never seen people do. Because it costs to much and its to much effort to do. I think thats the only way to do it now. The content needs to be so damn exciting that people would rather watch that then some guy talking about drama.
I used your link for Sizzlegg, and im excited to see how it turns out!! been watching you since the covid boom for streamers and wanted to say thank you for everything you have done for us all. especially your stream beats. :)
Few points of note in relation to the issue. Unlike other mediums. Live streaming gives the "viewer" attention. Unlike youtube, live streaming is an interactive experience. All of a sudden, that lonely guy now is getting attention from someone online. That's partially WHY it's a bigger issue on twitch than anywhere else. It's also a factor of. . . you can't censor or strike down live content. So it has the highest chance of being. . . lets just say. . . not "company approved" kind of content. This results in the medium, even conceptually, being very problematic on a fundamental level. It also is partially the fault of twitch for disassociating their own brand. Remember when everyone made fun of Elon and how he "killed the twitter brand to do something stupid and call it X"? Well that's what twitch has been doing with it's focus. The only people going to twitch are there for gaming content. . . yet twitch wants to push non-gaming content more heavily than the actual gaming content. You go to the landing page of twitch, and all the preview stuff 80% of the time will be full of "just sleeping" "irl" "music" "just chatting" or some moba. The problem is they don't recommend the stuff the platform SHOULD be known for. . . people playing games that actually look interesting. Ultimately, I believe the issue 1000% comes down to twitch having just as bad of an identity crisis as twitter is having, where all the problems they are have are a consequence of such. The identity crisis only makes the issues I pointed out at the top more apparent because the lack of identity ALLOWs for those issues TO be it's identity. It doesn't have to be about games. It instead can just be about someone trying to start trouble. By not making the platform about the games, it multiplies the prevalence of problematic users by lowering the bar to entry.
Hello Harris , I can really relate to your video here for a couple of reasons. 1. Too much rage bait takes on twitter is just upsetting to see now days, almost if the lack of creativity with online streaming has fallen to a low point. 2. Streamers are also being held accountable for their actions, I think this is a good thing to be honest due to the fact that a lot of followers just want some honesty if they're consuming your content. 3.Artistic nudity is a good thing I would say if their is restrictions in place before viewing to protect underage. Personally I've noticed the online space has become a political debate with someone always wanting to win the war. Like you said I'll keep my brain away from this ,catch some fresh air and go enjoy the outdoors for a change.
Good luck to you, Harris on your streaming schedule and future product releases! You do a LOT for streamers and I (even with my minimal streaming experience) appreciate you for that! Much love and Happy New Year!❤
Harris you’re my favourite creator on RUclips - I’ve learnt plenty from you like many of us I believe. Twitch is one of a kind place for sure, I’ve noticed that what works perfectly for me is taking 0 interest in others negativity /drama and focusing on your own growth - something I’d advice any new creator on Twitch. I stream variety, which includes hot tubs and dances. Yet for 1,5 years I never once got a strike nor a ban. Despite judgement or hate (of course) which genuinely has null effect on our lives. Do what you enjoy the most, peeps 🥰
I agree with this. Overall I streaming has taken a back seat to my content path currently. This year marks 5 years of streaming and I have been making content now for 2. Making RUclips videos, TikTok content, Editing videos, It seems to be the direction that I am now going. I have cut streams down to once a week so I can just make videos because I cannot justify streaming like I use to anymore. Thanks for the video man!
I am honest, I could be way better as a creator if i would be able to stick to my plans, but work and IRL just keeps throwing sticks at me lol But in all honesty: I find your hints and Tipps helpfull. Thank you for what you do and share! I whish you, your family and everyone reading this a happy 2024 :)
Societal mores and values are shifting, there are no longer stigmas attached to behavior once believed to be...distasteful. Not much can be done about it other than just refuse to take part in the nonsense. It'll get worse before it gets better....but I feel refusing to stream in a respectful manner or in a way that appeals to those who don't wish to take part in this shift, is equally harmful. I hope you continue to stream Mr Heller, you're a beacon of good, quality content. Happy New Year.
I totally agree with your point about raging baiting and drama farming. My "hot take" is that, this year, once again, the quality of the content on youtube went up, and on twitch the quality went down. Long term this can't bode well.
Apparently my Twitch account is now 11 years old, but I never got into the Livestream culture. I "grew up" mostly with lets plays between 2010-2012 and then around 2015-16 there was another phase when I watched a minecraft lp.
Agreed the current trend of being toxic to get views is ridiculous. Sadly that is what the internet has turned into. Just searches. Gaming. Streaming. Social media. People don’t feel as though they’re making an impact unless someone else is pissed. I would say I get into mood swing of watching your channel but have been in and out for years. I do appreciate you channel.
This is how I have felt about TikTok for a long time as well, and I think it's largely a societal problem in terms of how we collectively raise our (as in, society's) children. I struggle to describe this in a way that doesn't sound super Puritan, but let's make an attempt. We are increasingly more accepting of companies/entertainers doing or saying things that are not healthy, even in cases where it's clearly targeting younger, more impressionable audiences who don't know any better. Rage bait content is not especially healthy for anyone to engage in, but it can legitimately affect how young people think especially when they don't have a healthy reference to compare against. We also largely seem to be fine with systems that don't take content quality into account, Twitch is especially bad about this as it makes core assumptions that views = quality. In other words, I feel like we as a society have started to abdicate the responsibility of looking out for each other. We don't do much collectively to curb abuses of the platform (e.g. the meta that spawned the artistic nudity policy of literally just sitting in front of the camera naked to advertise for OnlyFans, panned slightly above the nipple line), and Twitch's core systems actively recommend lowest common denominator bait because they do absolutely nothing to evaluate quality. In my opinion it's the responsibility of those of us who aren't as easily impressionable to at least somewhat protect those who are, and we just...don't.
I got sick right at the start of November and it took me several weeks to fully recover, and afterward I just wasn't motivated to do much with my channels anymore. The streams were drying up, the vids were dwindling and I really had to wonder why I even bothered anymore after 9 years on the platform. Lately, I have a lot that I want to do for the new year, but I also have to seriously wonder if this is my last hurrah, and if this will be my final year on RUclips. I think after 10 years if I haven't arrived, I never will.
I used to watch a lot of streams and the negative aspects you mentioned is the reason I don't watch twitch at all anymore. I hate the drama culture that streamers have created so I just watch a few RUclips channels that I enjoy now such as yourself. I don't even stream anymore, but I still watch you Harris. Thank you for being such a great positive place to enjoy content.
Dude. You're Lav mic is huge! You shouldn't have to hold it like that. 😆 Seriously though, I just want to compliment you on your channel and setup. I've been a subscriber since around 2020, and watching your vids about streaming and equipment, despite the fact that don't actually do any live streaming. I relate to when you said "These are my people" about Twitch. It's odd, I'm a 40 year old, ex-game developer, and would love to be able to spend time live streaming and watching streams. But finding the time outside of work, family & kids to do that is just so hard. And so, I come here, listen about how to stream, and even have a pretty decent setup for streaming, and dream of what could have been. Happy new year!
Very new to Twitch streaming myself, and watching others. I’m on there mostly for the just chatting as I am hosting a bible study/sermon prep stream, and also trying to get better at Pub G on PC (I’ve always been a mobile player). But, the reason I decided to, besides reaching folks for Christ, is because I’m already doing my study and it will help me be more disciplined in it. So I believe Twitch will be good for me as it isn’t adding something, (other than same game time here or there), but is just an addition to my life already. But we’ll see.
On RUclips, I only stream on Sundays and it's playing video games from original Xbox, PS1,PS2 and GameCube to bring back the memories of a great era and to show the new generation what we had.
I always preferred making long form content for RUclips, and I found a way to stream while I do that. The problem is I kind of feel deflated about streaming or content in general right now. I just got back in BMX and started getting back in the gym and have just felt better. The desire to play games isn't there, and I've been happier being active. I'll get back around to it someday, I think. It's just not a priority.
I started streaming earlier this year and I have found some communities with some amazing people. Our community talks about this too and we are frustrated. We honestly don’t know what the next steps are but will continue to grow as people
There are a lot of great voices who have content worth viewing, partaking in, and supporting. It’s difficult because the shock content will always standout. Shockjocks have been a thing for eons. While that will always be there, as long as we provide access to the non-shock, real people, true discoverability, then the positivity… the voices of value can prevail.
Love your videos braddah since the beginning of you teaching everyone about audio equipment and streaming equipment, basically help me to purchase the minimum of things to try and start streaming, happy new years braddah and much mahalo and love from a Hawaiian/Samoan braddah in the cold depths of Alaska 🤙🤙 God bless!
I agree with the sentiments expressed in this video, and I believe platforms should stop trying to be the best platform for streamers (mocking Twitch on social media like Kick has). Platforms should actively demonstrate their commitment to serving the needs and desires of both streamers and viewers. I appreciate Dan Clancy's efforts at Twitch, actively participating in streams, and engaging with the community. However, I believe bureaucratic obstacles currently hinder the full realisation of his vision, impeding the method's true potential. Despite these challenges, I remain hopeful that the barriers will eventually be overcome, ensuring the growth of this approach. Live streaming is amazing to watch, and being a part of it is just not stable at the moment. I hope this gets a solution at some point before it effects the platforms too much, and we shall see in the future🤞
I'm actually just starting out on twitch, exploring it more and streaming it more. The Guild Wars 2 community is super chill and awesome which is fantastic for a newish streamer.
I am a twitch streamer myself and through over 5 years of streaming I seen so many trolls, stream snipers, and other negative people trying to get so much attention by bullying and insulting streamers. I myself have even went back to my old gaming ways of separating games and life. As Simple as things of using the term frags instead of kills in fps games and try to talk more positive. Yeah I slip here and there but I already found a change and stepping away from those negative people and finding the positive people. Now Sure I like to curse and stuff but in a good way ;-) but try to go a lot more positive than how negative people get to gain attention. If I stay average 10 viewers doing this then so be it but I enjoy it a lot more.
I've been wanting to stream again but never know what I want to stream or what. I've made the decision to focus on making a RUclips channel more than anything.
Wow Buddy, that was the most heartwarming video I’ve ever seen you make, thank you for the honesty and positivity :-) hope you have a super blessed year!
So couple thoughts. The Artistic nudity was super complicated in twitches case. For one thing even RUclips has borderline porn on its site, with people exploiting the "Artistic nudity" look at Yoga, Dance and many more subjects that can easily be taken as purely artistic and turned into strip club behavior. (SIde note, Google does make you prove your age via ID or passport, unless you have a legacy Google account pre MFA). BUT when you look at the chain of events on Twitch that led up to the rule change, it HAD to happen. My wife has been in the GTA RP category of twitch for 8 years so I am always invested in whats going on in that space and the timing for everything was clearly planned. GTA 6 gets announced and its clear twerking and sexual content will be in the game from the add > Twitch Announces the Artistic nudity Rule change making what ever sex, nudity and twerking in upcoming GTA 6 now ok to show on twitch > Week of RP on twitch is announced from Rockstar gifting 600k worth of subs out to the GTA RP viewer community. Thats a 2-3million dollar deal between Rockstar and Twitch > Twitch rolls back the artistic nudity rule due to people taking advantage of specific details, but makes sure it doesn't effect any game in the future that might have any nudity in it. This will get more and more complex as people find loopholes (For example now the twerk off streams look like they will be the next meta) and twitch will need to be more and more specific about details in their guidelines or they will just have to let things fly. Now when it comes down to just being a shit-bag for views that's just the nature of content creation, from the Ice Poseidon's to the now Jack Doherty. Shock content always makes money and normally its a short lived thing, but your always going to have people wanting to cash in while its profitable. And the bigger your platform, the more you should expect it.
Dan Clancy joining Twitch as CEO. Has humbly exceeded my expectations. But everything that you stated here I agree with. Thanks for using your platform to share my sentiment.
I think also, that the rise off shallow and crude content is down to something HUGE - audience reaction. If the audience did not react, it would go away. Not gonna happen. Thanks Harris for being constantly thoughtful and inspiring.
I have noticed this drama-seeking behaviour online in general too. I feel like last year everyone collectively decided to act out the frase "bad press is press". Even on youtube, ppl get "canceled" constantly for drama and bad takes. I really don't like it but the whole internet is at fault there. If ppl weren't so interested in drama and desensitized to sensationalism we might wanna just sit and chill with an "ordinary" good video without drama.
The problem with Twitch & most of social media is sadly unfixable. It’s growth. It’s all gotten too big & too complex. It used to be about sitting and watching someone play a game for 10 minutes(YT) or just kick back watching someone play that game on twitch, generally interacting with the chat but mostly just simply playing the game. But now, everyone’s doing it. So there’s a constant fight to make something the different, bigger, louder, better. The simplification of just enjoying basic content has gone because there’s so much of it. Look at how high the bar is actually set now, you’ve only got to scroll a handful of Mr Beasts videos (not negative) but there’s isn’t a single title without some display of mass wealth. People like to watch something they can’t do themselves. But because everything is becoming more & more accessible to everyone that barrier is getting higher and higher and sadly the fight for the top makes people do more and more outrageous things to cultivate that shock factor. I hope the beauty of simplicity will return but I don’t think it will. 2010 - 2014 were the golden years. This requires a much more in-depth explanation but I don’t wanna bore you! Everyone, keep being you. Keep growing your genuine self!
I started with twitch in Dec. 2022, so I can only tell from 1 year experience. Im into music streaming and so far I have a very positive impression. Music section still feels like a small community/ family, where streamers know and support each other and where it is actually about music/ creativity and quality. The "Lust for sensation/drama" in the nature of streaming ??...sure, I think its in the human nature😊
just thought i'd mention that i would personally love if you did stream on youtube as well, but not members only, because if you stream during the day, i can't access kick or twitch at work. but i can access youtube!! that's why i like people multi-streaming bc i'm always sure to find at least one site i can actually access!
Hey Harris, been a fan for some time now and i truely do appreciate how much youve helped me develop and grow in this space which is why i wanna give the benefit of the doubt. When it comes to artistic nudity im sure youre aware that there are content creators out there that take it too far in terms of pushing boundries. Dont get me wrong i dont care but its more about the hypocrisy around gambling that makes it a bitter pill to swallow. Its also that as a platform twitch at one point stood for gaming and now its more of a platform for lewd pornography like a my free cams then one about gaming. At least it feel that way to me. Just feel a bit disingenuous for you to sit there and see it was used as click baity react content vs how it was actually going to turn into a problem for the platform and its advertisers who pushed for the pull
When people do the type of sh*t we've been seeing lately 'just for the clips' or 'cause it is trending'... it just further delegitimizes content creation as a career. It has been bad enough that the last 20+ years, we've dealt with the constant assaults on people who see video games as dangerous.
Enragement is more of a symptom of something bigger being broken on the internet in general, because it's not just Twitch or RUclips. I think it boils down to what humans respond to and react to, and there's been full on studies about how we generally will react and engage the most with the things that enrage us. This is a known thing, and there are others who are more than willing to take advantage of it. This has been happening for years, but I think 2023 is the year where many of us reached this breaking point of realizing that 'hey wait, we're being manipulated...'. I don't know where it goes from here, but awareness is a start. I'm sure we can pull back from this weird, angry edge we're on, but we can't easily rewire our brains away from this. Instead we need to make companies, drama hounds, and influencers know that we're not going to put up with this anymore. We need to be more thoughtful in our choices, in the things we engage with, and the way that we interact with our digital world.
Actually I’ve been pulling away from streaming and working on my YT content. So I haven’t been feeling guilty because I have been feeling the same way. The negativity “content” is kinda based in biology. There was a study done, the kind of puts it into perspective. If you ever want to have a conversation about it, let me know. As always love the content and keep up the hard work.
Gotta say, I'm a big fan of Aitum. I use it in every Stream! Sure, I would like a few more options, but hey! Its pretty new, so we're expecting it to grow, and we to grow with it!
I love you guys. Dustin and I are working on what we want to change in 2024. I'll see you then. In the mean time, make sure you sign up for free clips and the $25 givewaway ► bit.ly/SenpaiSizzlegg
"Last vid of 2023" soz it's well into 2024 here in Australia 🌏 🦘
Aren't you the guy who told people they should not be multistreaming? But suddenly now you yourself are going to do it? 😂
Yoo mate what do you think is the best Gaming Mouse for someone who doesnt like honey comb patteren or any type of holes in the mouse i have been looking at the steelseries prime wireless since to mee it looks pretty good but i am also thinking about just going with the superlight 2 because i have the normal superlight and dont really know what to pick because every mouse people recommend has the holes and i just cant stand them
I thought Harris was anti Kick streaming service?
Thanks for making cool things, Thor!
You got a sexy voice and are a great storyteller along with just being an overly talented dude that comes from a lot of hard work and experience. Love your content
I bought the demo.
nahu he an advanced ai talking he not a real human
When you were talking about being more excited about making stuff for streamers than actually streaming. It reminds me of a transition from sports player to coach. Your not playing the game as much, but your help those that still are.
I honestly think Discord is going to make a play for the real streaming space in the next couple of years. Streaming is a feature, it doesn't need to be the whole platform, and they're already winning so hard at all of the other features that matter (community-oriented ones and financial support).
I'd never even thought about this, but this would be so amazing! Discord has been my home for years
@@gwenleannediscord overwhelms me at times. its so many people in the chats i cant keep up
Instead of going live, which I never did with consistency due to life getting in the way, I'm having more fun just recording entire play sessions and then creating shorts/reels/tiktoks from the clips I find.
Would definitely be interested in watching and being part of a conversation about this
Thanks for the 2023 content, and looking forward to see what 2024 brings!
Video starts at 3:27
This is fascinating, as I thought my disinterest in streaming and making videos lately was just one of my burn out phases.
I too have been asking myself these same exact questions you just brought up EmceeTimmyT...
This has a result of that original trend slowly deminishing into a minimal space (comparatively) because the new meta always becomes:
"Hey, look at us fellow kids, we aren't that thing you hate" meanwhile they are secretly in the background absolutely willing to be that thing if it got them good profits _(insert ill-advised joke about corporate pride month here)._
The leafies, the ricegums, the keemstars.
Keep it up
Never thought I'd say this, but I miss the year COVID brought us.
means what bro
no way, i started in 2020 and if you werent established it was the worst starting year of ever for growth. double the streamers, good luck starting
I've said this a couple of times unfortunately
I have tried so hard this year. I’m talking like live streaming drone footage and high quality IRL stuff. The only thing that worked was putting a pixel blur filter over my tan clothes. Bleh.
If no one interacted with the censor bar and current metas, they’d die. So if we don’t want to see them, we have to stop giving them air.
Twitch... Where "artistic nudity" was actually considered a good idea, but having your different communities come together on the on screen chat is a bannable offense...
bro did not watch the video
Twitch is more like PornhubLite rn lmao
I read “bananable offense”
@@kazevulpestvAn offense so bad you’re gonna get banana’d for it, watch out 🍌🐒
I’m so happy you’re actually calling out the drama culture! I feel like if there’s anyone who can say it how it is, it’s you ❤
It was no just the price, it was calling people poor... when they aren't good and rich people are rich from spending wisely
I like the mindset focusing on things you’re passionate about. You’re making a difference! Keep killing on the content scene!
It's a shame that it's getting such a toxic vibe
On an other note, I can't wait to see what you are building with aitum.
Do what you enjoy the most, peeps 🥰
drama culture is the only thing that gets attention anymore. Gaming streams just get no attention now
I agree with this.
I am honest, I could be way better as a creator if i would be able to stick to my plans, but work and IRL just keeps throwing sticks at me lol
But in all honesty: I find your hints and Tipps helpfull. Thank you for what you do and share! I whish you, your family and everyone reading this a happy 2024 :)
Great video お兄さん
I guess streaming drama is similar to engagement based curating of news stories? “Bad news are selling news”-kind of thing?
I think after 10 years if I haven't arrived, I never will.
as always great video Harris. Look forward to learning the secret you working on.
Seriously though, I just want to compliment you on your channel and setup.
Great video Harris!
Thanks for all the content you made in 2023!
Honestly have taken a step back from streaming this last month of 2023 to focus on RUclips videos and it’s been great .
love your content can't wait to see your streams in the new year and a happy new year to you and yours
Yup this is a dark rabbit hole I won't go down I don't like drama and had to take a long break due to scheduling and drama
Senpai Gaming, This is awesome! I subscribed because I want to see more!
Having a strict stream schedule reaps exponential benefits 🥳🎉 proud and happy for you brother, RW
Dan Clancy joining Twitch as CEO. Has humbly exceeded my expectations. But everything that you stated here I agree with. Thanks for using your platform to share my sentiment.
The highlight of my 2023 was meeting Harris on TwitchCon! ❤
Keep growing your genuine self!
loved this vid
I started with twitch in Dec. 2022, so I can only tell from 1 year experience. Im into music streaming and so far I have a very positive impression. Music section still feels like a small community/ family, where streamers know and support each other and where it is actually about music/ creativity and quality.
The "Lust for sensation/drama" in the nature of streaming ??...sure, I think its in the human nature😊
What a beautiful video to end 2023 with. Thank you Harris!
just thought i'd mention that i would personally love if you did stream on youtube as well, but not members only, because if you stream during the day, i can't access kick or twitch at work. but i can access youtube!! that's why i like people multi-streaming bc i'm always sure to find at least one site i can actually access!
I basically quit twitch this last year and have put all my focus into short form and long form videos. It has been the best decision I’ve made!
Just became a member for the streams! Super excited!
“The ROI of drama is just so much better than that of good honest work”
That is inevitable end of things…. Just look at normal live TV news
another great video harris this def was a good way to end the year and cant wait to see what u do in 2024 and thanks for all u done
Gotta say, I'm a big fan of Aitum. I use it in every Stream! Sure, I would like a few more options, but hey! Its pretty new, so we're expecting it to grow, and we to grow with it!
I feel ya.
I haven't really streamed all year.
