      I'd LOVE to use Vertical, and I've gone so far as to download it. But my hardware just can't handle it, even with a dual-PC setup since both are so old. One of them doesn't even support DDR4, if that tells you anything. So if I try to use Vertical right now, OBS just crashes outright.
      Hoping to grind up for a new PC so I can unlock my potential!

      Sizzle has basically zero functionality for anything that's not FPS - so it's a conundrum.
      *On the one hand* - it has functionality that covers an *enormous* swath of people streaming on Twitch.
      *On the other hand* - the only utility is in the one segment where there's the most streaming competition, and where Sizzle users are *least* like to succeed. There are a billion headshots made every day. Automatically capturing and sharing 100,000 of them per day is...ugh.
      There's a channel video from a couple years ago talking about how "gameplay with a user camera in the corner" is not going to help you stand out.
      Sizzle _feels_ like the exact same thing. It's an *incredibly* useful tool, yes - but since it's so focused on FPS games, it mostly seems to automate production of incredibly *boring*, assembly line, cut-n-paste content.

    I doubt Twitch would voluntarily want to double the bandwidth that streamers are sending to them with a second stream key - they're already far more limiting with bit rates compared to sites like RUclips so this just seems a bit pie in sky thinking.
    Also - decisions or not the fact that Dan is putting himself out there is a huge step up over previous leadership. Never saw Emmit Shear at a Twitch Partner party talking with anyone who approached him, so that sort of level of access is a breath of fresh air for Twitch TBH

    AS far as the vertical tool. 100%. If I can edit/adjust clips that's auto formatted for me-sure. Now I'm Adobe PS, LR, Ae, Ai, Pr savvy but if I can literally spend minutes checking over my vertical story via over a browser and not have to import clip or use a 3rd party to enhance my discoverability? Let's do it. Not every streamer has the time (like this one) to create content on multiple platforms-nor does every streamer want to. I don't. I once managed 12 accounts at one point, so creating my own plus the 12-at the time would be too much. THEN some streamers moderate other streamers. So this would be a win as well if Moderators had access to edit/post that content as well. However I'd like to see stories based on my interest. So having a filter would be ideal where we don't have to search live feeds. Some of us don't care for certain games. So having a filter in the discovery feed would be grand! Hell even we want to filter non-affiliated, affiliated, and partner stories. LFG. Cheers.

    Thanks for keeping us up to date on the announcements from TwitchCon Paris. I did attend as well, but I was so checked out about Twitch that I didn’t care about the announcements and only went to support some fellow creators’ workshop.
    I appreciate that Twitch finally pulled their heads out of their butts and started trying to create new tools for the creators. The issue I take is that it feels like the announcements were in response to their major bloodletting of creators due to their controversial ad policies (which they sorta walked back, only to expose even murkier things about brand exclusivity, especially for a former affiliate like me). If they never released their greedy ad policies and followed up with gaslighting the audience with their “ignorance” or “complete misunderstanding” of their ad policies, then I might’ve stuck around longer and kept streaming. As of now, I’m just going to passively watch. Having said this, tools like these do take a lot of time and a lot of political maneuvering, so I’m sure they were being developed long ago, so I will point the finger at their leadership for making the wrong decisions that resulted in me leaving the platform.
    Thanks for calling out the inner turmoil within Twitch, particularly with Dan Clancy. I met him at Paris and got a high five from him. Thanks for keeping it real, Harris. 🤙

    The problem I’m having with the vertical clipping feature is sometimes the skinny canvas may MISS a key moment that may happen onscreen that is too far left/right on the gameplay source for the vertical clip to capture.
    What would be cool is a way to situate your camera at the top and record it as usual, but record the gameplay source as a horizontal canvas then export the footage with the ability to “scroll left/right” and “zoom.”
    Ngl, I have no idea how that would work.

      I struggled with this too at first. I think you could set up the vertical canvas to have a normal resolution and then edit the videos with panning/zooming etc. but what I ended up doing is just positioning my vertical sources so that it only cuts off some of the action. I use a Gaussian filter (or any filter) to create a blur background and my gameplay is about 2/3 the size of a normal canvas, with the edges trimmed a bit. You do still miss some of the action this way, so if there's anything you really want to catch then I'd recommend using replay buffer as well.
      Not trying to self promo but if you look at my shorts you can see how I've positioned it. Works about 80% of the time, and when I miss anything I use replay buffer to catch it in 1080p
      Good luck!

    I love the idea of twitch automatically making a vertical clip at the same time and this works for any game that has a set point of focus. The issue that some of us would run into is when the horizontal plane is spread out too much and the entertaining portions of the clip cannot be in the same screen. I think the idea for a majority of clips is perfect. I would also like to see the ability to further breakdown the clips to take in the wider shot as well. I am not sure how this could be accomplished outside of shrinking the whole screen to fit or possibly having a strange split screen that makes to content disconnected.

    The main problem i see with a second stream of the vertical to Twitch is the fact that Twitch would have to encode that, too. Something they seem to already struggling with considering affiliates and below don’t always have encoding available. So having streamers essentially take up twice the data, two feeds that separately needs encoding of 6000kbps, on top of the internet-requirement on the streaming end, makes it not so likely.

    No matter how great the changes seem, at the end of the day, it's going to come down to a lot of excited people streaming with only goal in mind. To achieve success on the platform. It will still come down to one very important factor: that little number that shows how many people are currently viewing a stream. New and potentially new viewers see a low number and that affect whether or not they will stop and view. So as per the usual, large mega-streamers will continue to consume everything like giant black holes tearing up the Twitch-o-sphere, because Twitch will still pushout the heavily engaged high-viewer count streams over the small ones.

    I truly think that Twitch is still on the top of the streaming platform. Nothing really comes close to what they do and how it is done.
    YT Live kind of sucks. The discoverability is so bad with it, 3rd party sites were created just for discovering new live content. The chat for YT Live is a mess, imo. I love how Twitch lets me customize my username color. This helps me so much with keeping track of where I am in reading chat. YT Live, everyone of each ranking is the same color. Resulting in me easily being lost in chat. YT Live also has 2 different chat options, "Top Chat" and "Live Chat", which I forget which one is which, but 1 shows all of chat and the other hides some messages for some reason. Some streamers on YT Live do not know about this and end up missing a good chunk of messages. YT Live ads, imo, are worse than the ads on Twitch. I've seen an ad pop-up on YT Live that just completely breaks the stream, forcing me to reload the page. Never happens for me on Twitch. YT Live ads do allow me to "skip ad" sometimes, but this hurts the content creator. Why openly give an option to hurt a content creator? It seems so wrong. Speaking of ads, when an ad plays on YT Live, a big ad banner appears above chat, pushing chat down on the page. Very annoying.
    And then we have Kick... the cesspool of garbage that was banned from the other platforms and is a copy and paste of Twitch, but with no rules. Possibly the bottom of the live streaming platforms.

    One of my issues with Twitch is you are kinda grinding the equivalent of a dead end job. If you some how manage to break through and reach partner it doesn't have any real value other than bragging.
    The ad experience is also still very terrible and painful to deal with. A lot of the problems with viewers is that they are just comfortable with going to Twitch.
    I've recently started grinding RUclips and used to do 1 hour streams on Twitch before switching over and having to wait when you get the "got an ad" message gets really annoying because you know it is hurting your channel and effecting your flow on stream. You can't afford to get into the swing of things because you don't want viewers to miss out on the action.
    With RUclips you can pretty much just get on with it.
    I suppose in the end at least Twitch is making changes.
    Personally I'll be sticking it out on RUclips since I like how personal you can get with scheduling live streams and honestly I just don't have that much faith in Twitch anymore. If Amazon is getting annoyed at Twitch's performance I won't put it past them of shutting down the service. RUclips is at least a hell of a lot more stable.

    Twitch got complacent during Covid not realizing that the norm of 2020-2022 was not going to be a forever thing. Kick coming out was a light under their butt they needed to start doing new things. Now if this will save them is yet to be seen but who knows... it's still too early to tell.

    I think the easy win for people is to be able to upload the vertical videos for the discovery tab. Granted I know I’m a dinosaur, but I still edit my clips and then make vertical versions for tiktok and RUclips shorts. It’d be super easy to just upload them to twitch discovery too.

    The second stream key is indeed very interesting for it would make it FAR easier. Problem with it is:
    1. Is the streamer's internet good enough?
    2. The programmation for it would actualy be hell to do for it has to stay hidden as a backup for the stream itself (which sadly enough would actually make the stream VoD heavier to view), would need a check to switch between 16:9 to 9:16 and it would be the same thing for the clips in themselves, making them also heavier to watch but also and most importantly, to make.
    As much as the idea is great, this WILL increase the server usage at an incredible level in which might resolved into:
    1. More stability problem overall on Twitch.
    2. A shorter time before deletion of old VoD. For now, none affiliates are at 30 days before the VoDs get deleted, affiliates are at 6 months (i think. Imma fact check after finishing this comment) and a year for partners.
    Just from the perspective of non affiliates and affiliates making most of Twitch's streamer community, the amount of VoD kept wouldn't be THAT bad, but the amount of clips made (which are still permanent if i remember right) will saturate the servers since if it's not the viewers who do the clips, it'S the streamer that does them themselves (Otherwise, they're shooting themselves in the feet for not diversifying their content and increase their internet presence).
    But still, that would be really amazing to have all the streamer tools within twitch and adding the second stream key, despite all the throwback, would be an amazing step towards that.

    An alternative that would require far less computing power on twitch's end would be to use that graph you mentioned, with some twitch integration into your vertical video plugin, which could be used for recording rather than a second stream to twitch. Use the graph idea to add easily navigated timestamps in some form to the vertical recording, and simply upload to twitch from there.

    I've been alternatiing the platforms I stream on daily. Twitch one day, Kick/RUclips the next day, then repeat. I want to give all these platforms a fair amaount of time before I say X platform is the best.
    It's good to diversify anyways.

    honestly love "the vertical in the background" idea, i would also love it if the stream gets send to twitch in all the seperate elements (cam/mic/game/...) and then a total coding gets send out to the viewers (so twitch kinda becomes like OBS) but this is probably impossible

    • @yohd.twiggy4052
      @yohd.twiggy4052 Год назад

      actually this would be possible with the 2nd streamkey, use your PC/IPAD/... to play a game, send that to twitch and use your phone as a cam/mic on the 2nd streamkey then you can move it around as you see fit for clips/stream or remove them entirely for YT content if you want and your brb/starting soon/alerts could be on twitch servers, Harris you're a genius

Even if I'm still skeptical as well, only time will tell how things turns out and if they are as good as they are painting them to be. Got to say I like your idea about simplifying the clip uploading process for the discovery feed. That would make things less heavier on everyone's back after ending streams.

  • @RedWeird
    @RedWeird Год назад

    I wonder if for the discovery feed they could limit the clips you see to streamers who are LIVE when you've opened the feed? If they're keen to get people off the feed quickly, they could show you the clip and say "oh hey they're live now, go check them out".

  • @blodhthringa
    @blodhthringa Год назад

    The discovery feed being strictly vertical would be a miss relative to what this could be. Just make it the mobile version of the discovery feed functional in both vertical and horizontal so we can get both full screen clips and vertically trimmed clips. On PC, this wouldn't be difficult at all, but mobile would just need to do what TikTok doesn't. Turn the phone horizontally and still allow me to swipe up from that position.
