This is the start of a helpful thread for the community. What is the best tip you have for editing tiktoks. Take and idea, leave an idea. It's like that penny thing at convenience stores but it's not a stupid penny.
I'm a huge fan of Resolve's cut page. Then you don't have to worry about ripple deletes and so forth. I also set all my keybinds to be around asdf so that I can keep one hand on my mouse and never have to switch.
@@heyitstoki I use a more simple editing software so It's more improving than learning even at the very start, but I've been going for around 3 years I guess. I'm switching to premiere pro soon though
Just want to point out that the Prores Proxy for Proxy and Render cache options are not available on Windows due to Apple patenting on ProRes. Not likely you'll see encoding shift over to Windows, even though you can decode it perfectly fine. The best option for Proxies is DNxHR LB, which is the lowest bitrate option for DNxHR. DNx is an AVID native codec, but it operates very similarly to ProRes as they're both intraframe codecs (meaning every single frame is encoded individually, which is why they work significantly faster for editing).
What a great video from Dustin! Would love to see him on again to give more advice on how to become a better video editor in Resolve. Happy they finally added auto captions 🙌
OMG I've learned more of what I knew but in a new way than the painstakingly slow way of editing. This is gonna help out SO much! Thanx Dustin & Harris! 💞
I would like to see a 2 hour long video of you editing a video. Completely. From importing, to finding assets and music. Everything. No need to narrate what you are doing in detail like a tutorial but that's fine too.
YES! And I would really have liked to have seen some of the results of the different editing techniques you used - especially how the zoom in/out looked.
Hey Harris - any chance that we can get a source record within the vertical plugin? I have stream overlays during my live that I would love to not have included in the backtrack or recording. Didn’t know if this was a development thought or not.
Outstanding editing tips! Wish I'd known this for4 the last 3 years! Also. Love the vertical format back tracker. BUT. Being able to integrate it with Stream Deck, etc. seems to require subscribing to the whole package. Sad. Being on disability I don't have that budget.
From the finder you can also drag a folder into the bins area and it will create binds and sub bins accordingly if you drag a folder into the media section then it will remove all organization and lay out all the media from said folders and subfolders
I've been wanting a video like this on Resolve, thinking about swapping over from Vegas 16 cuz it's comfortable but I feel like I'm in risk of stagnating sooner than I'd like here. Editing shorts for my channel would need to be streamlined too.
Here one year later after having this video and hotkey setup be extremely helpful only to find clicking though to get the hotkeys again for another editor and the website no longer exists. Is there an alternative place to find these?
I was trying to import the hotkeys into resolve and it wasn't changing anything. So I went into and compared the txt file of the default resolve hotkeys and the hotkey file in the description and they're the exact same. Is it possible you linked the wrong file or am I just silly?
I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Lost! Editing videos is extremely time consuming and difficult for me. Every time I try to do something that is supposed to make it easier, I just end up screwing the whole thing up. I just need to go to some editing class otherwise I just feel dumb trying and just quit. Thanks for the video, but I still can't do this stuff right.
There are a number of things that could cause that. It could be something related to Fusion comps, Render Cache, source media being moved, the drive letter on a hard drive changing, etc. I would try setting your Render Cache under Playback to None first, then Delete Render Cache > All, and see if that works, assuming there are no Fusion comps.
I got a quick question. I made a TikTok showcasing the Star Wars rewards in Fortnite and used Streambeats music in the video and got copyright striked for the music ...so whaaaat?
I feel like one of the only people in the world using HitFilm FX, haha, but I'm so sure plenty of similar hotkey stuff exists there, too. DaVinci Resolve having auto-captions with a Studio license, though...
Thanks for the video! DaVinci speed editor is a great tool for speeding up the process as well. It does miracles on a cut page, strongly recommend for those who do a lot of cutting.

Okay off topic, "Stupid Penny" just reminds me of The Big Bang Theory haha.
I've never even used that page, I need to learn 😂 so many times I've ripple deleted audio without even realising! @@SpeculatorSeth
I am an editor for a streamer and they use the OBS plugin, makes my job 200X easier to edit tiktoks, thanks Harris!
How can I contact you to talk about work for my stream?
How long have you been editing? I've been learning Davinci for about 1 ½ years now to edit my own content.

aka a workflow video :)
I'm sensing some "Harris behind the scene" reveals :^)
Yes yes yes
^^^ this 1000% I bet there's so many tricks I don't even know about that would be helpful.
YES! And I would really have liked to have seen some of the results of the different editing techniques you used - especially how the zoom in/out looked.
I think a full video on keybinds would be great - I always have trouble coming up with those, but they make life SO much easier when set up right
Bless your heart for 14:33 ! Spent so many hours fidgeting with those knobs trying to get the right transform! Awesome, gazilion thx! 😎
Dude. This was fantastic...
Stole a few of those short cuts. Should save hours for me.
Dustin is out here doing the lords work 🙏🙏
Key framing for zooms always killed me. These hotkeys seem so clutch
Just so let you know It seems the Hotkeys file on the video descriptions it's exactly the same as Davinci Defaults. So you need to put them manually
Immediately downloaded the Studio beta and the captions are next level. Moar engagement.
The power bin tip is AMAZING!!!!! I am loving these videos, keep them coming. Thank you so much

do I need to have the full time recording activated to use the back track recording. Or just the basic replay buffer?
Love this, thank you both so much for teaching people the pro tips. Much Love
another amazing video!

I am currently editing some videos in resolve and will absolutely be trying some of these out.
Literally made me switch to davinci resolve already
Ayoo, ACTUALLY pogged out to the clip switching hotkeys even tho I don't use it xD
Another great video! Hope to see more of these for davinci!
This is insanely helpful, thank you!

Can vertical save multiple audio tracks yet? That really messed my clips
Noo, "Happy Streaming" is like my life fuel. Don't take that away form mee x'D

I'm having the exact same issue. If you have found any answers, please share! Otherwise, I'll have to go edit these one by one.
Having the same problem, any fix Yet?
Nope
Any chance the vertical plugin would be integrated in streamlabs?

would you ever do a tips and tricks for sony vegas users
This convinced me to switch from vegas to resolve
Thanks for sharing the hot keys.
How do you fix the Media Offline bug? Every video I try to export has it making Resolve impossible for me to use.
There are a number of things that could cause that. 9:50 if you would have just hit the delete key instead of backspace, it would have brought the clips together for you
Great Video!

Which editing software is this?
All I got to say is if you ever do a DaVinci resolve tutorial or masterclass course I am very interested
As a video editor, these videos are great since I switched to DaVinci fairly recent

Oh yea ❤
Just watching to see if these skills transfer to instag reels or youtube shorts because heck tiktok.
will you do a subscriber meet up in Japan? :D
Does anybody have the hotkeys file, I tried importing and did not work
what happens after the 30 day trial?
w japan life
07:45 - or you can just drop the folder into the bins list and davinci will create the folders by itself
4:56 Cat detected!
Did the previous editor quit?
thats a sexy thumbnail :D
11:53 Dad joke lol
Hawk!!
put the chapters on the video barrrrrrr
made a slice button on my stream deck and put a knife on it ! dont command B lol
Alternator with disruptors.... no hotkey editing did take a long time.
Oh shit I’m early let’s go 🥳
What happened to Sam? I miss him :(
why so long? . .. . it only takes me 5hrs and 50mins haha
SKIP TO 4 MINITES IN the first step is a plug in for vertical users.
Jesus. The guy really fgoes, "Let's get into it" then does multiple ads
What happened to @SamWoodhall?
