I absolutely abhor that trope in trailers. It's like nails on a chalkboard every time (all due respect to the artist who did the "You Spin Me Round" cover in this video).

4. Someone does/says something "funny."

Ok so I saw the movie Stockholm’s trailer and it’s very basic. Upbeat music introduce the bank robber then boom music stops and he’s doing something funny while talking about the person on the ground and then the musics back
And Adam Sandler's unfailingly at the centre of it all
And then after they’ve shown when it comes out, etc, then another clip of one of the characters making some funny remark that’s probably the best you’ll get in the movie.

I think one of the reasons this parody succeeds so well despite being text is the same as why books can be so captivating. It simply plants the seeds and lets our imagination run wild with what it'd actually look like.

This trailer is the change. Before the 2000's trailers were not like this or like a lot of modern ones. Trailers did change, but unfortunately the change made them go from artsy and mysterious and original to cookie cutter templates or have every major plot point ruined or even the ending in it.

The films have a formula, the trailers have a formula, they release everything really quick, no one gets bored, they connect the films in a series, you have to watch every one, Disney makes a ton of money. The money lets them make more films, which make them more money. The cycle continues

For me this formula lost its effects after a dozen try.
This isn't conditioning. This is preying on normal reactions to certain sounds and types of music. Unless someone in your life gives you treats while playing eerie pop remixes and BWAA noises.

I love romance and all, but anything that isn't a romance almost always falls flat trying to make one.
I'd kill to see a blockbuster action movie where the male and female leads don't fall in love by the end. I know Pacific Rim did it, but I'm completely short on any others.

As I write they're fronting it with commercials for those pandery 'Master Classes.' The one up right now is Aaron Sorkin telling me nobody does something that I often do & pretending to be a credible example of how someone ought to write 'real world' dialogue.

Kinda funny that I'd watch it without seeing anything in the trailer, because my head creates the amazing but overused images.
It's actually surreal how accurate this is. Like, if I just had my YouTuve playing an ad before a video and I wasn't paying attention I'd probably be convinced this is a real trailer for something.
This just makes me imagine a Battleship style gritty action movie based off the teacups ride at Disneyland
