  • On this episode of Focal Collective we shoot one roll with the Mamiya RB67 Pro S. This gives a behind the scenes look at the photos taken with this camera. The film shot here was Ilford Hp5 plus pushed two stops to 1600. The Mamiya RB67 is a great medium format film camera. For more about it, check out our previous video.

I've got an RB67. I'd have been interested in which lens you had mounted -- from the distances the video shows, it looks like a wide angle, 65 mm or 50 mm? I love the 50 mm on mine.

What I found about using a camera with a waist level finder is that you very quickly get into a habit of taking all your photos from a standing chest height because of the focussing magnifyer eye piece, it seems like the natural thing to do, for that reason I always carry my RB67 camera on tripod , the legs folded in but set at waist level height ready to quickly unfold and set up the shot, it takes seconds to do that and Im using a very steady tripod which is light, carbon legs, I just have this feeling that an RB on a tripod in available light is a bit crisper than hand held and I always feel like I want to be a bit lower than chest height as my default position, so I focus the camera and set up the framing I want but I generally look up at my subject rather than into the camera viewfinder when I fire the shutter, asking my subject to look directly into the lens , just a different way of working I guess.
