@@WillemVerb was about to write the same thing. Also with the rotating back... don't you literally just rotate it? At least that is what I have been doing with mine without pressing any other buttons.

Notes on the RB: you literally just turn the back to turn it portrait. No lock like on the RZ. also theres a switch with a red dot on the back winder cover the red dot and you can't double expose
On another note - it's not possible to double expose the film if you flip the switch to cover the red dot on the film back. I've shot photos on the RB since the start of the year, and the thing that's been bothering me is the light leak exactly like yours @ 3:37 which happens every now and then. Hey Willem, you do know back in the day, the RB was a studio camera...usually on a camera stand, many times on wheels. It wasn't meant for hauling around town. It was used in portrait studios. That said, back in the day, I would take my boat anchor out for a walk to the beach, loved shooting the piers, the rock jetty, sailboats and the surfers with it. I would take a half way decent tripod with me sometimes....one that I didn't care if it was messed up by the sand grains or the salt sea air. These days, I buy my tripods cheap at estate sales, and I still haul my boat anchor to the beach...some things never change! Surfs Up !
Two of mine had 100 exposure 70mm motor-driven backs and the 100-200mm f5.3 zoom lenses! They were mounted on a 280 pound rolling Linhof camera stand with Miller fluid-heads. The stand also had two Elinchrom EL 500 strobes inside a DYI softbox on a DIY retractable boom. Any studio worth their weight in dirt had them as a standard. Never ever looked at a Blad. I wanted that almighty extra 1/4 inch! On location it was the Pentax 67 with the 90mm LS and the 165 LS. Them were the days!
@@coastalartistlivingonislan8395, I had a lift-gated 4X4 location truck outfitted with an onboard 20 KW inverter/generator, Matthews and Avenvger grip gear, Scrims, dots, flags, etc. For lighting I had ARRI and Elinchrom. I took the studio to clients instead. Walk-in studios were a dead issue. I had a second truck that hauled a 20X40 foot tent and props. I was able make the tent all black, white or anything between. Walk-in studios are still dead here along the Arizona/Mexighanistan border. All ranch clientele on both sides of the line. Their barns and stables are the new studio, LOL! When done I'd park the trucks at the job office where no one ever got close to them. Retired from a Government job after 34 years. Today I shoot for myself only. I'm 65, too old for that shit. I love seeing you shoot local to me. Kind of puts things I take for granted into perspective and reminds me anywhere can be pretty if you open your eyes.
Is it just me, I may be high, but I got way more joy out of truly seeing Willem’s actual vibe and lifestyle than the camera. There’s a lot of chill joy in this video.
Great video Willem, as always!. The solution to your double exposure problem, if you haven't figured it out by now, is to move the switch under the film advance lever down so it covers the red dot. This engages a coupling pin that will keep the film from being exposed multiple times. This feature is found on Pro S and Pro SD backs BUT NOT the first generation "Pro" backs. So if you decide to buy any additional backs just keep that in mind. Also, unlike the RZ there is no switch to engage back rotation (no R-M switch), just turn it clockwise for vertical and counterclockwise to go back to horizontal. Keep up the great work!
It's can be easy to underestimate how difficult it is a just go out and just snap even decent looking photos when filming videos like this. Camera is rolling and there can be a lot of pressure. Great photos Willem! You make it look easy
The RB was the first medium format camera I owned and I only really shot FP-100C peel apart on it, bangin’ cameras. That Subaru exhaust hits on those quiet roads.
On top of the film back is a red dot visible. Next to the dot is a small lever. This lever is there to prevent unwanted double exposures. Just move it so that the red dot is covered.
There's a little lever next to the film advance that you can toggle to prevent multiple exposures! There's a bit of red beneath it to indicate whether it's safe for double exposure or not.
I forget that you went immediately to the RZ. You’re focusing screen looked mad cleaner than mine lol. I’ve taken that damn thing apart and replaced all the seals and put it right back together and after going through that experience you might as well call that massive beast of a machine part of my family. Love it!
The Pro SD backs are designed to prevent double exposure. They also have mechanical light seals rather than foam ones so will never need them replacing which makes them an obvious upgrade for any Pro or Pro S user.
Better get them while you can! I've been sourcing them from Japan up until about ten years ago. Got 24 120 backs, 6 220 backs modified for 35mm. Use the 35 modded 6X8 220 backs with the 50mm lens for making Mexican panoramas. Beautiful!
The slow Mamiya lenses (f4 or something) in combination with an (at maximum) ISO3200 film make it almost unusable with indoor available light. Also most old analog slrs have after all those years a misaligned mirror causing your images to be always slightly misfocused. And those Mamiya RZ lenses have (by todays standards) a pretty poor image quality. If we talk about Mamiya the Mamiya 7II lenses were imho much much better. Do you want me to continue? 😉 Yes, it's fun to shoot with them, but I wouldn't use them for anything important anymore.
