    I have to add some more comments just for any future viewers of this video who are considering buying a PPQSC.
    This gun is AMAZING. All the crap people who do not own the gun and have never fired the gun say about it (internal extractor, plastic slide insert, mag compatibility) is all nonsense. I bought one for $399 in November 2019 that was considered “factory new-old stock”, meaning it was new/unused but was part of the first batch that came out. Compared to my other PPQ, it just needed to be broken in some (pistol was never unreliable, trigger, mag springs, etc needed to be broken in). I had to adjust my rear sights to the right which was super easy and now....it is an unbelievable pistol.
    People show their ignorance when they bash the changes to the gun. Guess what? Those changes make the gun get back on target faster than other PPQ. Although the high bore axis “snappy” thing liars say about PPQ isn’t real but the PPQSC does get back on target quicker than my PPQ45 and my Q4 Tac. Every edition of the gun comes with a 15 rd extended mag so the criticism for mag compatibility is unwarranted since it’s included with the pistol. It is very very reliable. Never had a single FTE, FTC or FTF with aluminum or brass ammo.

    • @JacksonWalter735
      @JacksonWalter735 4 года назад +3

      Couldn't have said it any better myself. People just assume low bore axis means less recoil and more accuracy. Guns like the Walther PPQ and Sig P320 have a higher bore axis than something like a Glock or CZ P10, but they still get back on target just as fast. Low bore axis isn't everything and the "snappy" feeling actually helps the gun get back on target quickly in my opinion. The weight distribution on the slide, how fast it cycles, internal extractor, the recoil springs, and so forth also plays a huge part. With the PPQ subcompact, I feel like I shoot even better with it than the standard PPQ because of the design change. Obviously at further ranges a larger gun would have the upper hand when it comes to accuracy, but at closer ranges the subcompact PPQ just feels easier to shoot. Can't wait for the next gen PPQ to implement all the design upgrades Walther had learned over the years.

    Hammer Striker,
    Another outstanding review, thank you for your time in sharing this succinct and informative video! I'm a huge fan of Walther, and find the size and capacity of this offering to be a wonderful fit for another EDC option. I'm looking forward to shooting it at the range, and then
    making a decision on buying one...but it looks promising. Thx again! JC

      Thank you. It is a great little gun. We did have one issue that we have a follow up video coming soon about. It can be difficult to cycle the slide manually when a loaded magazine installed. That could be an issue clearing a malfunction in a defensive encounter but it has had no effect on the reliability while shooting.

  • @bdm1000
    @bdm1000 6 лет назад +3

    I found out the real reason for the internal extractor, and it doesn't have anything to do with the weight of the reciprocating slide (because if you think about it, what saves more weight, having solid steel in that area or a steal extractor (which has space between the extractor and the steel?). There is a RUclips video of a Walther rep commenting on it, and he said the went with an internal extractor so that they could produce them quicker. I think that's code for it's cheaper. Remember, extractors started out being internal and then later thy were made to be external. I think it was a cost savings issue. To you're point, I think it's going to be reliably acceptable, but if I was a police officer, I don't think I'd want to rely on that. That said, a LEO isn't going to rely on a PPQ SC as a main weapon and I don't see Walther changing that for the full-size PPQ's. I do, however, think I might go with a P99c in lieu of the PPQ SC for this reason (coupled with the fact that I've more or less transitioned to DA/SA lately after carrying nothing but striker-fired pistols for 13 years.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 лет назад

      I agree that a LEO would not use this as a Service weapon, since they don't have to conceal. It would make a good BUG somewhere else on their body and that would be the likely use if they did get one.

  • @bdm1000
    @bdm1000 6 лет назад +1

    Why do you think the P99c is slightly taller? If the magazine base plates are roughly the same thickness, there must be a difference either in the height of the magazine or how far it inserts into the frame and slide. Right?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 лет назад

      As best as I can tell, it appears to be the grip itself that is a hair longer. The magazines are not interchangeable, so there are a few differences between them.

      @@HammerStriker Thanks. I did ring them. They don't make one. I'd have to send my gun in and it would have to be specially made, at additional cost of course, and take about a month. Too much trouble and money. This will most likely stop me from making the purchase. A crazy, ridiculous problem resulting in frustrated consumers and lost sales. One would think that a mainstream manufacturer would have solved or prevented this issue in the first place...

    • @HammerStriker

      I would have to go with the FN in this case. Despite the awesome trigger on the PPQ, the FN is a bit more robust and higher capacity for not much of an increase in size.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 лет назад

      Yes, I weighed it and had not gotten back to post the results. The fully assembled slide for the P99c (barrel and recoil spring in place) is 14.3 oz.

      Awesome! Thanks. And how much was the SC slide?

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 лет назад

      13.7 fully assembled. So its about a .6 ounce difference, not a huge difference but definitely a difference.

    • @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
      @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 6 лет назад

      Thanks for doing that. I don't know but I find a ~5% difference hard to reconcile with the notion that the slide needed to be lightened for faster reciprocation. I'd have to do some calculations, but off the top of my head I think we can conclude that it's all a canard for lowering production costs. Plus we've even got that Walther rep at SHOT saying that the changes were 'about producing slides faster.'
      Someone on the Walther forums was saying that Walther is extremely pinched for production space/capacity right now and they moved all their production capacity from the PPS M1 to the M2 among other things. I wonder whether Umarex is just keeping Walther on a very tight leash and forcing the changes in quality.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 лет назад +1

      I hope that is not the case, losing quality in Walther (which typically makes very good guns) would be a bad thing. Losing the PPQ would be very bad. My hope was that Walther would bring Umarex's quality up :-)

    Your video was VERY Very informative. I feel like Walther really dropped the ball on the SC. Mag compatibility, role pins and cutting corners on over all manufacturing. Really bummed about this. Sig P365 it is for me

  • @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
    @stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 6 лет назад +1

    My primary question is how the SC shoots compared to the P99c, which of course has a standard all-steel slide and uses Walther's tried and true design philosophy. I'm open to the idea that the new slide design was motivated by practical concerns, but on its face it looks like they were building to a price point in the same way they did with the Creed and the CCP. I hear Williams' theme of the Empire playing... Umarex?
    I don't know, between the modular parts and funky feed rail on the slide and the foolishness with the magazines, I don't know why I'd not just get the P99c, enjoy the price break and the paddles ; ) . I think Walther really shot themselves in the foot.

    • @HammerStriker

      i see the solo review for the 99c but it was done before the ppq SC would rlly like a side by side show down to determine if its an actual upgrade from my current 99c or if its just a shift left (or even down) in quality. if trigger reset is longer than the 99c ill probaby stay. if trigger pull length and reset are the same i might go ppq when kinks are worked out for consistency.

      I bet Sig will fight this with every patent lawyer they can get their hands on. They have 3 patents pending on this magazine.

    • @HammerStriker
      @HammerStriker  6 лет назад +1

      I think the Sig's arrival will compete for buyers but neither gun seems to be massively superior to the other. I don't think it infringes on any of Sig's patent's since it is basically a regular PPQ magazine tweaked. This is a Glock 26 size double-stack gun holding 10 as opposed to the P365 being a single (ish) stack holding 10.

I love my 2 ppq’s but will not be owning a ppq sc. too many cheap changes done to the platform and the price doesn’t even show it. I rather a p99 compact than this any day of the week.
