2020 - 2022 Ford Explorer 2.3L Oil Change & Air Filter

  • Work was performed on a 2020 Ford Explorer with a 2.3L 4-Cylinder EcoBoost.
    Tools needed:
    15 & 7mm sockets
    Oil Filter wrench
    Wheel ramps or jack stands
    Oil Drain pan
    Supplies:
    5w-30 Full or Synthenic Blend motor oil (or 0w-30 for Cold Climate) 5.2qts or 4.9L
    Motorcraft oil filter #FL910S
    WIX Air filter #46935
    Oil Plug if needed - Dorman Drain Plug #65430
    Don't for get to check for leaks under the vehicle from the drain plug or Oil filter after install.

    Good video, appreciate you making it for another first oil change on a new car. I am more worried about the Walmart brand oil you are using. As long as it is your car and not a customer’s, I’m all for it. Thanks man.

      Oh, the plug is looks the same as my GMC. The specs on my GMC is 20 Ft lbs, for anyone wondering.

    Do you recommend an oil separator for the 2.3 EcoBoost? I know someone who has one on theirs and they get quite a bit out of it.

      Anything boosted or with high compression should run a oil separator. Especially anything with direct injection.

      I've seen it recommended that you remove the catch can in the winter if you live in a cold climate.

      Finally picking up my 22 on Monday!! How much oil did you put in? Supposed to be 5.1 quarts I believe.

    How many miles in between oil changes?

      I personally have a 5k rule, you can go up to 10k. But I would check the level and condition of your oil between 5k to 10k. Must use full synthetic oil.
