Joy to tell you, Angie, this is my favourite RUclips restoration to date! You made all the right choices making the grain all that it could be and then some. I was sceptical but the blackened hardware created visual harmony with the inlaid lines [also in black] and visually deepened the darkest of the walnut tones. You actually gave this piece character it hadn't yet shown - while many 'makeovers' often erase patina and character. Big hug to you.

Less expensive and with a little creativity, it is easy to find a new life to the furniture. We all have these treasures in our homes. Here, very good results. Bravo 👍🏻🌹

Angie, thank you so much for your videos! Most of my furniture came from the side of the road and I've been using your ideas as inspiration as I fix each one up to create a cohesive gothic home. About a year ago I pulled a really pretty ornate (think ball-claw style feet) side table from the dumpster that someone had already painted all glossy black. The paint hadn't cured properly so it was a little gummy on top but I figured I could redo the top when I had time. I thought, since it was painted this way, that it was a cheap piece made to resemble something fancier, which was fine with me.
Anyway, a couple weeks ago I finally got a scraper to start getting through the paint, and because of your videos, I quickly realized I was seeing veneer under there with the grains going different directions! I remembered what you've said about being careful about veneer and figured "well if someone painted it, it's probably ruined somehow, but I want to see first" - so I put away the scraper and spent hours sanding carefully by hand.
The tabletop is walnut veneer in a starburst style design with an inlaid circle in cherry veneer, and it's basically perfect!!! I'm so glad I didn't blast through this! I researched both woods and learned the cherry will darken beautifully, so I'm going to forego staining altogether and use Odie's oil on the top, leaving the legs black to match the rest of my decor. I'm so happy.
Thank you so much for your videos!! I definitely would have unknowingly missed out on this gorgeous veneer otherwise.

Some things should definitely be restored. But much like modern day designers, olden day designers sometimes got things wrong. Or the items were not taken care of properly and are destroyed. Or just aren’t practical anymore and end up in landfills. Being useful, for me, sometimes trumps being fully restored. So I consider each piece individually, rather than the idea that every single piece of mediocre furniture needs restoration.

Black was definitely the right call for the hardware and it helps bring attention to the black detailing on the drawers. What a stunning piece! Thanks for the light show -- I love a good thunderstorm!

This peece made me smile, it is absolutely gorgeos. I'm with you on the black handles, love it. I think that the former owners wouldn't have thrown this out if they had known it could look this fabulous.

Still watching your amazing transformations, Angie….but usually everyone else has said most of the things I wanted to say (and could bore you to tears?!)….This latest one, however, just had to say something….An intriguing find , and construction, as you said… and I loved the style of it and the hardware and the lined pattern on the front too…and it was a Walnut veneer ❤️❤️….So glad you saw it…saved it….and made it desirable again…Your trademark meticulous care and understanding of all of the problems and processes needed …are fascinating to me…every time !👍👍….When you showed to two colour comparison s,near the end..I was leaning towards the lighter original, to be honest….But forgot just how completely rich and stunning, Walnut IS !!!…( and the black hardware was totally right…of course). A Complete Beauty of a Piece of Furniture!!!👏❤️…So rich and wonderful wood grain… and elegant again…Thank you for saving it…Angie, and Lucky people who get to have it in their life 👌👌…Sue (UK)🇬🇧…PS the terrible wildfires…and dreadful consequences for humans, wildlife and Nature …was heartbreaking to see and was widely reported over here…Thank Goodness for the Rains..when they came…But huge cost for so many lives of all kinds 🙏🙏🙏…🇨🇦❤️
