You don't know how painful this is to watch as an England fan. To see our humiliation laid out, to remember what it was to watch that game, to remember the hope and belief we had (especially after the first goal) and not to disagree with a single word in this video.

Everyone was looking like I was responsible for the loss. I didn't care because I support portugal. And we won. I do remember wales vs england in school it was like a fucking stampede of the other classes coming running down the corridor after the winner.
The problem for England is that the quest for a trophy has become akin to a search for the holy grail. It just means too much. We as a consequence do better when nobody expects us too. If you aren't from England or a football fan you will never understand this fact.

Whenever the Icelandic players reflect on the 2016 Euros the one thing they all seem to agree on is that the England game was by far the easiest they played in the whole tournament. He was an absolute disaster, inherited a absolutey brilliant team from Benitez, which he started to sell off and bring in horrendous average signings. Turning a real European force at the time into some mid table scrapping results team who he had playing negative defensive football. Hodgson is good if you want to avoid relegation, if you want to win anything though you better look elsewhere. He was promoptly fired after just 7 months in charge, one of the worst managers and the worst Liverpool manager I have ever seen. And the FA thought this guy would be great to manage a team of superstars...

The premier League has become the most important league, all the best coaches gravitate towards it, and since English players tend to stay in the English league they receive training from these top coaches which improves the quality of English players compared to other leagues.

So glad that this has an issue that we have rectified all of this. I think more has happened behind the scenes than people give credit for. The English media really have condemned us to being absolutely hated by every other country's fans. In reality we're no difference to Spanish, German or Brazilian fans, but our media is so overconfident, horrendously arrogant and far reaching that for most people all they see is the media, not the normal fans behind it. Its sad to see videos like this hating on England, despite the actual normal fans not really doing anything out of the ordinary. I remember Russia's equaliser while at a bar in Bordeaux. Me and my mates had been to the Wales vs Slovakia game a few hours earlier over the moon and happy as hell and we walked into a bar just in time to see Russia equalise. As Wales fans we went nuts celebrating the Russian goal and the bar owner came up to our table and gave us a load of free drinks because he loved our passion.

I'm with you, I can't stand my country's media on our team. I know it's one thing to be passionate but we're so obnoxiously going on about how our team is so great just to suffer the same heartbreak. I wish they put the same heart towards actually creating a system where we could be just as good as Brazil or France of present day.

I'm late to this but amazing video. Never seen someone so clinically cut open and expose the problems in English football so well, your focus on the media's role was constructive and the delivery was hilarious.
Our media is really bad tbh. IMO the British press don’t even try anymore. They just say what people want to hear.
So glad that this has an issue that we have rectified all of this. I think more has happened behind the scenes than people give credit for. Now, we have a Manager who not only created a good relationship with the media, but many journalists have actually said they won't say a bad word about him now.
@@carlybishop6160 I wouldn't say that are problems are fully rectified yet, but it's absolutely true that Southgate and the current squad have massively improved media relations, and we can only hope that moving forward they'll continue to do what they're doing now. It also helps that seemingly less people are trusting the Sun as much.
@@Lily-gj8wb I completely agree but I think it is getting nearly there. 2018 was his make, do and mend kind of stop gap team. Now, he finally he has team which he had been waiting for and building for 10 years. I think he knows he get over those last hurdles in the next couple of years.
I doubt he is going to go anywhere for quite a while yet. I also think we are likely to see a few more changes in the FA and English football as a whole. He has silently become the most influential person in English football and I think there is a chance he will be even more so mid-2025. I think there will be a few more issues in the wider game that will be fixed. Not sure exactly how. I have had my suspicions around his extended contract and thought the next few years would be interesting for the FA and English football as a whole. Since his press conference, I think so even more.
So, let's see what he has planned and what else he can do.

The English media really have condemned us to being absolutely hated by every other country's fans. In reality we're no difference to Spanish, German or Brazilian fans, but our media is so overconfident, horrendously arrogant and far reaching that for most people all they see is the media, not the normal fans behind it. Its sad to see videos like this hating on England, despite the actual normal fans not really doing anything out of the ordinary. Its genuinly scarred people's percention of the national team, and the media just made it worse.

The media not being nearly as harsh during the recent Euros definitely helped. However once Rashford, Sancho and Saka missed their penalties the media ceasefire quickly ended
It's funny that this loss may of been really important wake up call to the English FA who really seemed to be running on auto pilot.
