I have owned the Sport model for mora than a year now. I completely agree with you. You DO NOT notice different between 17 and 25nm except in strength/resistance in the wheel.
When I started with sim racing I didn't have anybody to ask about equipment or any experience within sim racing. Like many do, you research until you can't do more research.
From my experience now, my upgrade path would look something like this:
Step 1 - Beginner setup - Thrustmaster or something like CSL DD or second hand clubsport v2.5 with "basic" pedals such as Fanatec CSL LC or cheaper ones.
Step 2 - Upgrading pedals to Fanatec Pedals V3/Heusinkveld Sprint/Asetek Pedals - In my opinion, pedals are much more important than wheelbase. By having consistent braking and learning trail braking is much easier with better pedals.
Step 3 - Upgrade the wheelbase when you either get bored or you just want a high-end product that you will adore every night you go to bed. The steering doesn't change because you change wheelbase, only the fine details will be more noticeable. You will easier feel when the car is loosing traction and having easier to save the car from going off-track or slide.
Of course everyone doesn't have all the money to buy high-end in the beginning. That is why sim racing is so wonderful. You can upgrade in small steps if you love it. Save for new pedals, wheelbase, that triple monitor setup, handbrake, buttonboxes etc. That is what make sim racing so fun, make it YOUR OWN and enjoy it!

As a SimDrift and JDM/Shutoko enthusiast, the only 2 things I care about are 1. Smoothness and 2. Catching slides/Responsiveness
From all I got from multiple reviews is that the Semicube is the best in class when it comes to those 2 qualities.

I just made the jump from a Logitech G25 to a Simagic DD with Loadcel pedals from DC Sim. A massive step up. Seconds gained per lap: 0, slides caught: 0, races won: 0, but my only regret: not having changed sooner, because I am having so much more fun!!! The experience is like going from playing a game to a real simulation. If you are at all serious about simracing, don't waste time and upgrade! You will just enjoy it more, guaranteed.

Great video mate. I have experience with all 3 as well and totally agree with everything you said in this video. I can’t tell the difference between Sport and Pro at the same power levels and only a slight difference with the Ultimate with it’s slightly faster response time (slew rate).

I recently moved to Simucube 2 pro from CSL DD because i wanted a better experience from force feedback than expecting a better laptime from more expensive wheel base, and i literally surprised at how precise the forcefeedbacks are in simucube. It took me about 4 weeks to just find the right settings and almost get back to my old times, still not 100% there but i dont really care about absolute laptimes, the feel and consistecy is not even comparable and the added immersion with having to clutch and use trottle blips is so much fun and fullfilling. DD owner for 5 or 6 years now of the following in order:
OpenSimWheel 5000 PPR encoder -> OSW 10,000 PPR + Simucube software mode -> SC1 -> SC2 Pro. These wheels are amazing but I also think they introduce and expose a lot of problems & shortcomings: 1) FFB technology is very basic 1990s technology via Microsoft Direct Input and Immersion Corp. It was never made for the power, acceleration, speed, etc. of DD wheels.
    2) Real-life steering system is a passive (ie. reactive) system whereas FFB is an active system.
    3) Real-life is basically torque-based control while FFB is speed and/or position-based control.
    4) Real life has 100s of times more mass & inertia than FFB (tyres, wheels, suspension, steering column, etc.)
What happens in our powerful DD systems if we put a heavier wheel on? Does the FFB slow down and react softer, slower, etc. because of the added mass & inertia like it should and would in real life? No. The OPPOSITE happens! The wheel applies MORE power to try and make up for that extra weight (unless you're in a power/torque clipping situation) in order to try to rotate to a certain point in a certain amount of time. This fundamental logic itself is the complete opposite to real-life...Just this point alone shows how flawed and unrealistic FFB tech is.
I still wouldn't ever give rid of my DD wheel, don't get me wrong, but it exposes some very big flaws of how primitive FFB is and makes for some highly unrealistic & un-wanted gaming/driving situations.

I went with the Sport. Why? I asked my buddies from VPG sim the following question: if you have a list of simracing hardware that I need to drive my 2 favourite car classes (open wheelers and rally), what would you recommend me to buy? I added a budget, and this was their response:
    Simucube 2 Sport R2
    BJ F1 2 pedal set
    BJ shifter and handbrake
    F1 wheel and rally wheel
    PSR1 Simrig
This is the setup I use for 2 years now, and I couldn't be happier. There is 1 sim/game where I use 100 percent torque: Assetto Corsa. Everything else, from F1 18 to 21, AMS 2, RF2 to RBR rally I use between 15 to 60 percent of the torque. This is also based on my settings, which are without damping, recon 1, almost never friction. I like this video because it is really comparing, rather than only reviewing. Very good job, immho!
Something else: there are so many Simucube owners out there, which never did a research, never watched a single one of the tutorial videos from Simucube and therefore have no clue where clipping is from, where to start with the FFB settings, what the job of TD is. Would be great to see something from you about it

Hi man, I got the Pro as my first ever wheel base, I will even say more, for my first EVER experience holding a wheel in my life - I have never drove a real car, or even played any simulators before. I used to play NFS and Flatout on keyboard or controller occasionally, and considered GTA5 car physics perfect for my liking. I have now been using it for the past couple of months, mostly in VR and I really love it, I learned driving manual h-pattern and all I do is driving hotlaps in shaky 80s shitbox cars in AC (thank you Arch for those physics mod, the cars are so unstable, I love it). I have round deep Momo dish to drive those old cars, with custom Shh Newt shifter and more oval one from Fanatec mounted to SRB BB Ultra button box for ACC or modern cars. I really enjoy my experience, I have nothing to compare it to but I don't feel like I lack anything, I have zero need or desire or wish for something 'better', which was my plan, do it once but do it good! I know it will be a long time before I will resemble anything near being a good driver, but this is fine, as I just enjoy driving it, really calms me down and puts me in in a zen zone. I use it every day.

All simucubes should feel the same-ish as long as they are not being pushed passed their capacity, and that's a good thing. Things to consider is is wheels and accessories attached. If you planning on running heavier wheels with extensions, heavier button boxes or a big truck wheel for tuck sim you may want that extra power to swing the wheel around.

Thanks, that was really informative. I've been planning to go DD for a while now, but I want to do it once, and once only. Simucube has topped the list, but I was really wondering between the sport and the pro, and you've convinced me that the extra €300 for the pro is worth it for peace of mind, even if I never use the higher torque available.

I love my Simucube 2 but lets phase it, Its no magic FFB. The game outputs the FFB and it will feel the same on a G29 or Simucube.
The simucube 2 is however more solid in the feedback and a lot stronger.

I have just literally added the SC2 Ultimate to my rig. It is sublime, has way more power than I could ever need, but the detail is stunning. I would love to know what sort of settings you use for True Drive and sim titles like AMS2, ACC and iRacing. One of the issues I have found is most of the shared profiles on the True Drive Paddock software were initially created for either the Sport or Pro bases, so the shared profiles from these bases don't feel that great on the Ultimate. I have been reducing the overall strength of the wheel by 20% if using a profile from a Pro base.
So yeah, please share some of your base and sim settings. 👏👏👏👏

    • @chepilevski
      @chepilevski  2 года назад +1

My settings are always very simple man ! I usually use the reconstruction filter Dow to 3 for AMS2 and IRacing and up to 5 on ACC !
I also always use maximum power from the true drive and tune that from the game to my like with the different cars as they all feel different!
I also keep down the friction and damping to 5% as I just prefer to feel as much details as I can even if is harsh and noise some times !
Mostly my wheel FFB is very raw and im not sure if you will like the feeling as we are different but it is worth trying to keep things raw for few days and see if you will feel little more connected with the car !
Most of the settings I tested online have completely different approach and I see many people prefer to keep the FFB some slow and smooth but I personally can’t even feel what the car is doing!
Make it as fast as you can and give it few days and if you don’t like it just test different things but try to keep the reconstruction filter 5 and below 🤛

That ultimate is the biggest con in gaming. Literally only difference is it has some filters the pro doesn't have for £1500 extra. Should be a max of £400 extra for warranty and filters. Only seen 4-5 reviews but non of them upgraded to it. I find it interesting, you get the same level of performances. I definitely thought the sport would be different. I know pro and ultimate con are so similar, it's very hard to tell what the filters do lol. When you think about it. I could put a sport in one room and a pro in another and I've still got money left over. Not a theory I usually sign up for but given the performance. Worth noting how ridiculously over priced it is.

the main difference between the 3 should be evaluated on the slew rate values, the pro has double the limit of the sport - 8nm/s vs 4nm/s - which means a way faster power delivery even at equal torque levels. i had both and the pro is way better, a lot more precise, crisp, clear, detailed and fast ffb delivery than the sport.

Lol funny you mention that when half the community runs sub 1nm/s anyways. You a much better rubbery feeling from the tyre, I don't get this obsesion with having it as quick as possible, thats not a real life tyre works anyways.
Hell even the G29 is fast enough to catch slides with.
So sport vs pro is only if you want a stronger base.

Great to know that the Sport is on par and personally I would rather suggest buying it over the Pro, because last one tried to hurt me numerous times😛. I also would like to know your True Drive settings since I have not succeed finding good ones it seems. I thought they were good with dampening about 10-15 and friction at 5-8 in general, but since I have a VRS DFP I now know it wasn't. The VRS comes with a little more friction out of the box and I'm using it with the mentioned values as well. With a GT1 around Donington I did some hotlaps in AMS2 and I'm about 0.3 sec faster with the VRS also on average, no doubt. In rF2 it would be 1,5-2 sec. with the same scenario since the VRS feels far better in rF2. In ACC the lap-times were rather similar and I prefer the SC2 Pro for it's lower dampening overall since the game already dampens a lot. I've not tried iRacing, but especially in this game the effects over curbs and general spikes I find too much with the desired corner-torque and that's IMO what the VRS does better: It's never overwhelming and it oscillates far less. I've always the feeling I'm in control and not the wheel. The collision-FFB is far lower for example and the spikes are much smoother. I've seen Dan Suzukis True Drive settings and thought it's too much dampening at that time, but I guess that's certainly a better starting point than the default of True Drive. Being always in control of the wheel despite strong cornering-forces is also the key to be faster. I'm going to sell the SC2 Pro because the VRS is my favorite, but the SC2 is IMO the better product and I told them to provide better settings instead of this online-sharing-BS.

I wish I will have the chance to test the VRS as your post triggers me a lot man !
Reading how you prefer to feel your FFB sounds like you would not like my settings a lot as I don’t put much friction and damping at all but I see we drive mostly different sims as I’m more about IRacing and shame on me but I still haven’t tested the rF2 and I really have to !
The ACC for my taste have the worst feeling in the settings I use and some cars on AMS2 feels awesome and some awful!
IRacing is the sim in which I can go really low on reconstruction down to 1 and friction and damping 5 but I definitely have those spikes hitting curbs but I found having those settings also helps me a bit of saving my tires as they really follow the cambers and all the anomalies of the surface!
I have to find the way to test the VRS 😃

@@chepilevski Hey mate, some update about the SC2 vs VRS thing. I wanted to sell the SC2 Pro and thought giving the new July-firmware a try before and see if everything works fine. I don't know why nobody is talking about, but it changed my opinion. Before the VRS had far more texture in the center for road-feel and now the SC2 Pro is even better instead of rather numb. And lowering all Direct Input effects to 0 seems to solve the 2nd problem I had with the exaggerated FFB-spikes and oversteer-effects. So now I would rather sell the VRS than the SC2 Pro and looks like my little 'rant' in the granitedevices-forum triggered these improvements😉
