On the customer experience thing: I have found Moza to be extremely responsive. When I told them it wasn't working properly in RaceRoom, they put out a fix a few days later. When I tol them I was having an issue with getting the wheel centred properly, they created a tutorial document and asked me to review it before publishing. Exemplary customer experience.

I actually suggested that they add the LED buttons to the round wheel as an option and they said they loved the idea and would be having that option available in a few months! been using a simucube 2 pro now for over a year or so, its been a pleasure. We are at a stage now though where a direct drive cheap or expensive will deliver similar benefits, afterall they only have to deliver the game signal as fast as they can to your hands... the real advantages between the bases comes down to the software and power making mid corner forces much more immersive. as humans we are quite adept at adjusting to changes so i imagine going to an R9 from a simucube 2 pro would feel simply too weak at first but after a week or two of using it then it will be fine with no issues, switching back to a simucube 2 you will then find it too heavy but after a week suddenly its fine and you start understanding the benefits of more power again.
when it comes to software i still think simucube offers the edge in refinement, being able to play with static force reduction means we can turn up the power for more detail without the arm killing strength mid corner, i think this is an amazing overlooked feature that more manufacturers should implement. With that said moza do offer some unique features of their own and i think that's a big positive, they need features to stand out and something like the frequency adjuster is just that. Some of the simucube/granite staff on forums have mentioned that filters adding a delay is somewhat of a myth and does not happen, im inclined to agree honestly because these things are so fast only a robot would be able to tell the difference... Its like saying ''hey the simucube is better because it uses a 22bit resolution encoder and the moza is 16bit, fanatec is 16bit, simagic is 18bit etc....'' YES technically on paper the simucube simply has better hardware, they are renowned for that overbuilt quality, but the reality of the situation is it would take a very special human being to be able to detect that resolution difference, only robots in a factory can tell the difference, they are industrial motors afterall. Its always nice to know there was no expense spared though.
direct drives at this price now is excellent for everybody, it really is about time the belt wheels and cog wheels are put to bed, i think you really do get 80 percent of the DD experience with any of these lower end products, its still something of a nice surprise when you use a powerful motor though, the weight of the cars, the holding torque mid corner, the overall detail level gets a natural boost with more power but most would be very happy with an R9 i reckon. I think simagic are making the biggest splash in the market right now honestly, wheels dropping left and right from them, fast growing ecosystem, that is what should worry the likes of granite devices i think.

I agree. DD bases are more about the software than hardware at the moment. I saw the same thing with the mige motor where simucube board made it feel amazing but I tried the VRS version with the same motor bit their software and it didn't feel as smooth too me and more grain

    • @jinx20001
      @jinx20001 Год назад +4

@@Simlife101 yep that's right it pretty much does come down to software... I think the only exceptions I would make are motors like the simagic m10 where the hardware has a direct impact on the feel with it being very notchy... in fact that is one of the reasons I personally wasn't a big fan of fanatec, I had a DD1 before simucube and I found it annoying because there was an underlying notchy feeling simply down to the hardware design so software adjustment does not eliminate it, I think the top end fanatec hardware is due an update already honestly, almost all motors are coming out these days completely smooth, in fact I hear the csl dd is even smoother than the podium line up but not used it myself.
Then there's fanatecs quick release which is pretty nasty, noisy, lots of play... but at least fanatec are on that mission to replace it, just taking wayyy too long.

I have the R9 and was very surprised at how hot it got when the FFB was strong for a 1 hour race. Almost at the limit of "hot to touch". I asked Moza about this because I was concerned and their reply was:
"Hello, you don't have to worry about the problem you mentioned. We have temperature control components inside to ensure that users will not be hurt and the equipment will not be damaged. Its specific working principle is to limit the torque output when the temperature reaches the set value to achieve the effect of cooling, and when the temperature is back to be normal, the torque output will return to the normal level."
So it seems like it's not an issue. I've not noticed any detrimental effects from it like lack of FFB, all works fine. I've been very impressed.

Same story here. I was concerned at first with the heat of the base and contacted Moza and they said it is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. I put a temp gun up to the case of the wheel base when I thought it was really hot and it was only about 105 F. In the RC world with brushless motors 160 F is a totally normal temp so I feel it is really not as hot as I think. Also I do have a small usb fan hanging from my middle monitor blowing directly down on top of the case which seems to help a lot.

After a year of usage, I can say that it only gets hot when you add the artificial effects and/or crank up the frequencies while having high road effect and in-game gain above 70% and for the past 6 months it's been operating with cool temperatures or room temperature at most keeping in mind that I only have max on torque and game FFB.
Road sensitivity to 7-9 > sim dependent plus activity, racing or drifting.
      Game FFB intensity 100%
Maximum Speed of Steering 30%-100% > sim dependent plus activity, racing or drifting. for the latter I use 150%-200%

Steering wheel inertia ratio 2250 or GS wheel default value
      Natural Inertia 100%-150%

With that said today i had the big test on how it feels as in details of my car as i had an endurance race which i was the only person that didnt do a pitstop, the tyres got worn out badly and i felt what the car was doing so well and when i lose grip and all of that resulting me in a 24 second lead at the end of the race. I can highly recommend this wheelbase for the price it is.

After 3 years with a G29, I recently decided to invest in some "proper" sim gear, and this video helped me settle on the R9 and, due to delays with the ES wheel, the GS wheel. I've had them three weeks and am very happy. I am looking forward to learning more and more how to fine tune settings to get the best result for a given car in a given game, but I've already found some combinations and settings that really work. And I think there's just enough strength in the base to deliver a truly engaging and immersive experience up until control is truly lost, where a lack of additional torque may be an advantage. I've watched s number of your videos now, and am convinced of your sincerity, your passion for your sim racing is obvious. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I've never experienced overheating with the simucube 2 pro but I have experienced it getting extremely hot to the touch, especially on a hot day or in a very warm room, often it starts off getting warm at the rear and the heat then spreads up through the body after a couple of 45 min races. No effect on the useability though so clearly not "over"heating.
Going through the granite device forums the simucube engineers have often said it will get hot, it has a label on it warning of that and that if you can't touch it for more than 3 seconds it's at that point it's probably too hot but not before.

Where do you live that Moza is so much more affordable than SC2? I would pay 1100 € for the R16 and 1225 € for the stronger SC2 Sport made in the EU. The GS steering wheel is nice in price, but similar options are available from Turn Racing with button box that I also personally prefer. The VRS DFP with 20 Nm is certainly more affordable from the base (940€ incl. shipping), but overall similar if adding a QR and wheel to it. The R9 might be enough for you, but I'm used to 15+ Nm because I like a bit of workout as well while sim-racing and vintage cars also need more than 9 Nm to get their full dynamics.

    • @TheSuperNerf1
      @TheSuperNerf1 Год назад

@@Leynad778 your comment seems like your just projecting your own thoughts instead of responding to my comment. The actual price of the sc2 and moza r21 are similar, but that isn’t what I’m referring to when I talk about affordability. Moza’s wireless steering wheels are much cheaper than any wireless simucube offering on the market. Saying that the moza gs is similar to the turnracing wheels is a bit of stretch since both have a very different set of features that appeal to different sim racers who prioritize different things. If your priorities and personal subjective beliefs align more with simucube than be happy with your simucube. I’m looking at different options because I prefer steering wheels that don’t come in pieces and don’t require a wire, so I’m interested in moza’s wheels. furthermore I’m in US so paying for shipping in the EU is absolutely ridiculous. You be happy with your stuff dude

Just got my r9v2 besides the tiny bit of a “catch” in the center and sometimes oscillating if you let go this wheel is unreal for racing and especially drifting! 9nm is plenty of power unless you want to feel what no power steering is 😂 coming from a logitech g920. Thank you MOZA 🙏

    • @chepilevski

Oscillation is present in every direct drive if there is not applied tons of damping which is bad for the FFB but we must keep the wheel most of the time’s anyway!
The R9 is probably my favorite base for the money ever produced and as you’ve said , it was absolutely enough for any kind of sims in normal use and never felt short of power of the ffb to feel what the car is doing !

Next is the Camus 15nm which I will test to see what they have to offer for even less money!

From everything I've read, alpha mini > moza r9/csl dd, while not much difference between the csl dd vs moza r9, is more or less who you ask. For my first DD wheel, I'm eyeing the alpha mini, but I prefer the GS wheel over simagic's their GT4 and FX wheels, so I'm torn.

i just got the current V2 versions of the R9 base and the GS wheel some days ago and i am simply loving the experience.
if there is just one downside its that the shifter paddles on the wheel are a bit too loud, but one gets used to it tbh (putting in the small rubber thingies Moza put in the box to make it quieter is not an option for me because this takes away from the tactile feel).
tbh, if you are right now in the market for a new wheelbase and wheel coming from a beltdriven one, then i dont see a strong enough reason not to go with Moza.

6:50 - You raise a very interesting point about the heat generated by the respective wheel bases. If the MOZA is actually getting hot to the touch then the motor they've used in it is possibly getting up against the limit of the force it can generate without active cooling. The Simucube 2 Pro on the other hand has this massive yellow sticker warning you about, amongst other things, a hot surface, yet it never gets even slightly warm even after long sessions.
I've read somewhere, so this may not be all that true, that the motors used in the Simucube 2 range are so over specified that with active cooling, and a suitable power source, they could easily achieve 60 to 70 Nm of holding torque continuously. Now I don't know if that is true, but given that my SC 2 Pro never gets warm I find that within the realms of believability.
A servo motor will do what a servo motor is told to do, and it's through software and firmware that this is achieved. As the details in the FFB come primarily come from the SW/FW controlling the motor and the power comes from the motor itself, so it's no surprise that the MOZA is delivering such good FFB.
I'm sure the engineers at MOZA have taken everything into account, but electrical devices that get hot worry me in terms of longevity.
    Great content as always.

My SC2 settings are very simple as I just load the iRacing profile suggested from Simucube software and then out the reconstruction filter to 3 and the damping and friction to 5
That’s what I use for all sims and work perfectly for me mate 🤛
