Yeah - me, too - I've set it up multiple times thinking Win10 was overriding me. But it's always set to never for both when plugged in. The only 'never' is that it never works.
hold shift while pressing shutdown in the menu, that makes a proper shutdown. There are ways to change it, cant remember how to do it but just google/youtube it and you should find it
Hi, this has no effect. My computer monitors go to sleep while I'm watching youtube videos or playing casino games and I can't wake them up. No matter if the computer eventually follows suit, I can't wake it up. I have to press the power button to power off and reboot. Please help. I have an HP Pavillion Desktop and I use Windows 10 for my operating system. This is a real pain in the you know what. Thank you.
thanks for your clear instructions. I will try yyour recommendation. I did have it set to one hour (!) but it seemed to go to sleep after 10 minutes. I have now set it to never. Let's see what happens now. 😉
Hi Dave, I have two questions. How can you remove a (possible) virus from your laptop? Also, can I use Express VPN to watch American TV? I live in the UK and want to watch a particular TV series I am fond of but want to watch live. I am prepared to subscribe to a VPN if necessary. I have Norton Utilities on my computer and can change VPN settings to any region I want but not to any city. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I found this GREAT link re. solutions but why is Windows 11 (and previous versions!) SO 'baddly trained' that it does not understand CPU activity to = BUSY = STAY AWAKE?
So this doesn't work for me. I did this a few weeks ago, and still I return to a black screen every now and then... I have two monitors of different resolutions and everything on my desktop is moved around weirdly after...
Didn't work for me. I've set it to never several times and after a few minutes it goes to sleep. Really a pain, especially when releasing music that I need to follow charts for. I can't even finish a song before it goes to sleep! 😡
anyone ever had the same problem as mine? i already set all those "never" sleep, but then as i watch video the monitor suddenly turns off like went to sleep it turn back on as soon as i move my mouse (just like sleeping moitor) cant find any solution online as all solution is exactly like this video any help is appreciated
Hi, the hdmi cable puts the computer display onto any screen. So plug an hdmi cable into your monitor or into your TV and you'll be able to use that screen.
My laptop has a screen saver of 15 minutes that I cannot change. What key can I hold down to keep the laptop from going to sleep that wont hurt my computer
Hey Dave, what about Windows 11, when I change setting "When plugged in, turn of my screen after" and 15 min by default. When I change it to "Never" it saves but after PC restart it goes back to default (15 min).
I did these changes, but when i click CTRL L to log out of windows ( so the kids don't play around on the desktop ) over time the laptop still goes to sleep. Any ideas? Keep up the great content.
My other keyboard randomly triggers sleep mode, but when I use my other one, it functions normal. P.S the RGB keyboard causes random actions like sleep mode, and brightness. is it because of the faulty keyboard or the PSU nor a software issue?
I doesn't work.... I was looking for a solution to my problem... This is just explaining where the Windows settings are. What if the settings do not work?
Thanks Dave i have tried all that but my Asus vivobook 17 really tries my patience, the screen switches off after 5 minutes no matter how I change it in the settings. I have tried just about everything including mouse jiggler and Coffee apps but all to no avail. My son in law even tried changing it in the registered but nothing will change it. After 5 minutes the screen goes off and I have to retype my passcode to get back in. This is extremely annoying as I may be working on my laptop and iPad at the same time and when I look at the laptop it has gone to sleep again, again. It doesn't;t switch off if videos are playing and if I am listening to music on iTunes it still plays but the screen does go off. Any help will probably keep me outta the nuthouse or stop me from throwing my laptop outta the window please, please, please
My issue is that my PC will NO LONGER go to sleep with the monitor set to never sleep? This used to work just fina but now I have to set a time for my monitor to sleep also, when did microsoft change this? It took me forever to figure out this setting was preventing sleep
I have a DIFFERENT problem! Perhaps it is definitions: I have been aware of screen savers and shutting down disks/ssd since these functions appeared! I am an Engineer and I also download large files as many do (especially as the net is congested with multimedia files these days!) In my opinion, 'sleep' (display!) can be any time you leave/stop looking at your display/machine especially with the present speed for a display to wake!! (Am I wrong?) For ALL users that have/need activities to run (from time to time!) when the PC is unatended (downloading, calcs, CCTV etc.) 'sleep' (drives!) should NEVER occur when the CPU is 'busy'! (Right? Simple?) Or is this only my 'Pommie' Engineering logic? (I have a recollection that it was possible to delay 'sleep' or 'wake' during LPT activity, in the past!) PLEASE HELP! ; )
I have my HP desktop computer to turn off after 20 minutes and to sleep after 20 minutes, but last night the screen saver stayed on all night. What else can I do? Thanks so much.
I have a question that I hope you can answer. I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (9th Gen) Windows 10. There appears to be a feature that, every time I look away from the device, the screen times out and returns me to the lock screen. Its kind of akin to the haptic feedback on my phone were if I look away the screen dims. I need to turn this off. it is terrible. Can you provide some advice?
I have tried those settings over and over again, no luck. My computer, Asus laptop, just goes to sleep after 5 min no mater what settings as soon as I stop typing.
Basically I wanted to turn off my pc, but instead of pressing shut down I pressed sleep. Now the monitor it self won’t turn on, but the cpu is fine but what do I do? I need it for school
I have the same problem exactly. I tried the changes, didn't work. My monitor is 11 years old. I think it's just burned out. Ordering a new one from Walmart.com for $60 HP. It will solve the problem. New is nice.
Hey Dave, Thanks for your expertise in solving Computer challenges. Unfortunately, I don't know computer language very well, so I might not be asking the right question to solve the challenge I have. No matter what I have tried I can not get my computer out of sleep mode to try anything. Its a desk top. I have so many documents stored that that's the main usage for me. Were documents are a big one and to be able to access and print. Alot of other tasks I simply do straight from my phone. I don't know how to access these documents when my computer is in constant sleep mode. Are my files stored on the actual moniter.? Or in the tower that runs it ? I have no idea
If computer shown going to sleep on display And loose after few minutes even don't work any key not opening computer that what can we do please see earnestly sir please need quick reply
Power and sleep settings have no effect on sleep. I have them all set to never.
Same here
You also have to have your power settings set to high performance instead of power saver
@@dorisaerwin Have done this. Computer still goes to sleep.

My laptop screen was turning off while I'm working. It will turn on by double clicking.
How can I solve this..?
Can you please tell me what the hdmi cable does. It is to connect the computer to the monitor or is it just for the Tv. I don't understand. thanks
Hi, the hdmi cable puts the computer display onto any screen. So plug an hdmi cable into your monitor or into your TV and you'll be able to use that screen.
Didn't work. I absolutely hate windows!
