Scottish Comedian Leo Kearse on trans joke ban

  • My latest video is about a campaign by a trans activist to ban jokes about trans people following a joke a comedian told at a comedy club in London (I've included footage of the joke so you can make your own mind up as to how transphobic it is).
    Fortunately it doesn't look like the campaign - #NoJokesOnUs - took off. Maybe people have slightly more pressing issues on their mind right now?

    There's a 100% chance that the activist was only at the comedy show in the first place to go hunting for something to be outraged about. Everyone knows activists don't like comedy, or anything fun. It's the only possible reason they could have been there.

    • @ericdodson2644
      @ericdodson2644 2 года назад +19

      Yeah, but outrage is a form of recreation for them. It's why they go to places like comedy clubs in the first place. So... it seems like they got their money's worth from that show.

      @@ericdodson2644 imagine hating life so much you go out of your way to go to a comedy show, just to find something to be outraged about. They're like a health department weasel that audits restaurants, but is really looking more for a lapse in paperwork or arbitrary procedure than any actual, immediate health risks. Except the inspector is at least getting paid by an employer, and food safety can actually harm people if not done properly. The outrage auditors are just self employed freelancers, and their currency is social media clout. We are a silly culture.

      @@markzuckergecko621 Yeah... but I'd also say that our culture is only as silly as we let it be. We could just *ignore* all of the outrage merchants, just like we ignore obnoxious toddlers. But for some reason, everyone is taking their petulant tantrums WAY too seriously... which of course only produces even more of the exact same behavior. And so it goes.

      @@ericdodson2644 well, one of the inherent weaknesses of liberal philosophy, and valuing individualism over collectivism is that we suck at being collective. I know I did.
    Their parents said: don't go outside, there's bad men out there. I went out after breakfast, came in for lunch and dinner then came back in when street lights came on.
    Modern kids haven't lived, grew up online playing computer games, not socialised or made friendships that lasted the test of time. It's all very sad. 😞😢😒

I expect you led a similar childhood to me, in the fact that I was rarely inside and had to be literally begged by my folks to come in and eat! Being outside and playing with your mates, climbing trees, fishing, exploring on bikes and on foot and occasionally lighting a few fires, especially as a boy, is what's happened throughout human history until extremely recently and like you I believe its crucial for healthy development but parallel to the incarceration of children inside due to media led paranoia and even more insidious is social media, I think the "mob" can make them act contrary to how they really feel most of the time. Sadly I can't have children but if I could I would be teaching them to get out there, be street wise and find themselves because the real truth is that life comes with a big risk, without facing that head on sadly means you haven't actually lived.
