Also, The Who are performing several gigs at the end of March in London for their annual Teenage Cancer Trust charity concerts. Teenage Cancer Trust is similar to the Ronald McDonald house except for it focuses on housing near hospitals for teenagers who are battling cancer. Squeeze is the opening band and other artists including Robert Plant and Eddie Vedder will also be performing.

...This song is based on a day in the life of Pete Townshend. It began with a very long meeting dealing with royalties for his songs: "Eleven hours in the Tin Pan, God, there's got to be another way." The "Tin Pan" he is referring to is Denmark Street, the "Tin Pan Alley" of London where many music publishers and songwriters were based. After this excruciating meeting he received a large check for royalties, left, went to a bar and got completely drunk. In that bar he encountered Paul Cook and Steve Jones of The Sex Pistols, who thought very highly of Pete for paving the way for punk rock music. Townshend was conflicted because he feared The Who had sold out, and seeing The Sex Pistols, who were icons of rebellion, exacerbated him even more. Pete left that bar and passed out in a random doorway in Soho (a part of London). A policeman recognized him ("A policeman knew my name") and being kind, woke him and told him, "You can go sleep at home tonight (instead of a jail cell), if you can get up and walk away." Pete's response: "Who the f--k are you?" ... www.songfacts.com/facts/the-who/who-are-you

Last time I saw the Who live in concert was at the The Who concert disaster in Cincinnati at the Riverfront Coliseum December 3, 1979, which ended in tragedy where 11 fellow concert goers were killed in stampede outside the doors. It was an amazing concert but such a tragic end. It was a scary night, I was only a teenager (14) and never witnessed anything like it before. The band was devastated and never played Cincinnati again until...forty-three years after that tragic night, the Who finally returned to Cincinnati. Thanx so much, take care, Peace

I may be well versed in music simply because I was raised by my grandparents part of the time and my Grandma's born in 19 0 2. She brought me and she took me when I she was 72 years old. She came from the Missouri ozarks. Say you want to talk a tough womand Yelp, am I great aunt? Even tougher, we had 6 feet of snow out there. And she was still splitting around wood at 99. Then she was making a homemade angel food cake and an old wood stove and complained the entire time because your son kept telling her she couldn't split wood and that using the room to cover for footprints wasn't gonna do any good and my great auntie said that's too bad as long. As I can sweat wood, I'm gonna sweat it. Why not? I'm not dad. You should keep on doing it so. Come from pretty good Montana, stock there. But you seem to have an open mind and I just enjoy you. I think you're just a darling

I became a fan of The Who from clips like WGFA, as it lit a fire in me of what a kick ass live performance could and should be. But The Who's library is beyond deep and you'll almost never hear the same song twice. Pete the bands guitarist and main song writer was just on another level, and even when the lyrics might not have been that deep, you will certainly move your feet. Their "Live at Leeds" album is considered the greatest live Rock & Roll recording of all time, and personally I would agree. I'm sure you'll get tons of recommendations for songs, but I'll leave a few anyways. I think you would really like "Behind Blue Eyes" for the subject matter, and "A Quick One" from the Rolling Stones R & R Circus is another killer live performance that has to be seen to be believed.

Decent song and well known through CSI TV, but they've done so much better. The Who are up there with Stones and Kinks for being great British bands that started in the 60's. Four brilliant individual musicians that made magic when they came together. 'My generation', 'Substitute', 'The kids are alright', 'I can see for miles',' Pinball Wizard', 'Baba O'reilly', 'Behind blue eyes', 5:15, 'Love reign o'er me' to name just a few hits. The albums 'Who's Next' and 'Quadrophenia' are my favourites, both masterpieces. Cheers

The Who introduced the synthesizer to the world, with their classic hit Baba O’Riley.

The Beatles used a Moog before that. In "Strawberry Fields Forever" iirc.

@@sj49770 The Beatles didn't have the moog up untill 1969, so strawberry fields had a mellotron. Beatles didn't really use the moog that much, I believe it was only on here comes the sun and I want you. On I want you it was just white noise, and in here comes the sun it mimics the guitar. The Who had the first real song that was built around a synthesizer.

Did you watch any of the CSI shows? All of the shows had/ have a unique theme song from The Who. ( Who Are You, Don’t Get Fooled Again) That’s where most of your generation knows their songs from.

Back in the day, radio stations didn't bleep out the part when Roger Daltrey says ah who the f♤ck are you...
