    The official video of this song is fun - showing the band fooling around in the studio. They clearly had fun making it. One of the best bands of the 60s and 70s. You'd recognise the hook from this but not the full song because it (and several other Who songs) was used as the theme of one of the CSI shows. The song is about Pete Townshend's battle with alcohol - he got so drunk one night that he was found by a cop asleep in a doorway. The cop said "I know who you are and I'm a fan. If you can stand up and get home, I won't charge you." Try some of their earlier, rawer songs, like "I Can See for Miles" or "Substitute"!

    I’ve seen The Who multiple times since 1979 (sadly never saw them with Moon). And even recently, down to Roger and Pete, they still put on a hell of a show. They tour with Zak Starkey (Ringo’s son) who is one hell of a drummer.

    There is a video of The WHO doing this song in the studio, with a slightly different mix, but it is fun to see the band in a different setting than usual. Roger is in a little booth, and Pete, Keith and John are having some interplay, and a lot of fun, seemingly. Worth a look and listen.

  • @tobeski

    The story behind it: Pete Townshend had a meeting in London with his record company and it was so depressing that he went out and got as drunk as hell in Soho. He was in such a terrible state that Steve Jones and Glenn Matlock from the Sex Pistols found him after a cop had woken him up from a refreshing nap in a shop doorway, sorted him out a bit and then put him on a Tube train back out to his house in Richmond

    • @tobeski
      @tobeski 6 месяцев назад +4

      Oh, and one Who song that I've not seen many reactions to is "I Can See For Miles", which is so mystical that it didn't sell well and thoroughly depressed Pete T. It's all great, but Keith Moon's drumming on it is immense.

    A plague of dolphins on both your houses! The Who are legendary UK rockers (not psychadelic), four superbly talented guys. 'My generation, 'The kid's are alright', 'Substitute', 'squeeze box', 'I can see for miles', 'Behind blue eyes', '5:15', 'Love reign o'er me' are just a few worth reacting to. Cheers for the smiles!

      But what is it with people recommending "Eminence Front"? LOL It's like the Jackson Browne people drooling over "The Load Out/Stay", which is possibly the WORST thing on Running on Empty. OR people recommending that Curtis Lowe song, out of all the good Skynyrd songs. (But we know why they're constantly pushing that song.) The same reason they recommend "Hurricane" by Dylan, because it's not as if there's an enormous amount of other songs that could be recommended. We all know that's about "demographics" too. And really, "Hurricane" is dreck.

I wasn't feeling that well to begin with but I was so excited to get to take this particular girl out to dinner and a movie and didn't want to cancel. In the middle of dinner I ended up having to go to the bathroom to puke my guts out... That happened like 3 more times. I'd already bought the movie tickets though (Silent Hill) so we still went and a damn mouse was in the theater and crawled across her foot mid movie hahaha so she screamed and caused a whole scene and then when I finally get her home her dad is pissed and yelled at me about getting her home late. Despite all this she still ended up being my prom date and ended up being my fiance until she unfortunately passed away from leukemia at the age of 21. She was an angel

    The who were hard rock (blues base) they were first ones to destroy their instruments and destroy hotels. Not considered Psychedelic. More anti establishment thought provoking.. punk came from them. Rock n roll circus which was buried for years because the who blew the stones off the stage. Roger just turn 80 and still has his voice. Robert plant recently jumped on stage to perform with him. (Couldn't hear plant) the who is considered one of the greatest live bands of all time. Check out isle of wight 1970 great performance. When the who performed 9 11 concert for new York they blew everyone else off the stage. BTW who songs were used for csi shows. You should check out love reign ovr me. Tommy is 1st rock opera. Quadraphenia is another great rock opera from them. Because of Roger's range, very few can cover who song. The who is still one of greatest bands of all time. Fun fact current drummer zak starkey was taught to play drums by original who drummer keith moon not his father who is Ringo starr. The song's composer, Pete Townshend, is asking the question of God when he (Pete) is at a very low point in his life. This is especially evident in the last verse. He has always been a spiritual seeker, as reflected in the album "Tommy" & many other Who songs plus his solo work. Thanks for the reaction!

    The lyrics of this song are so British. If you don't know the slang it won't get most of the references. This was the modern radio edit because the original song you can clearly hear the word F*CK in it. I say modern edit because back in the day they let that through on radio. For that reason alone The Who were considered a super cool band back in my youth. The song would play and people would be like, did you hear it? He said the F word.

We stopped at a place to have a drink first. I made the mistake of drinking on an empty stomach. So in the middle of the movie I went to the bathroom and vomited. I did not tell my date. The end of the date comes and he goes to kiss me. I shook his hand instead...lol...I eventually told him why several dates later. He has wondered why I shook his hand that night, happy I chose to do that instead of kissing him...lol...

    The Rolling Stones, sure, easy, because they lean on the "whoo hoos" in many of their songs -- "Sympathy for the Devil", "Miss You", and "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)" -- right there in the title! Heh. The Who dropped "Who Are You" right around the time I got my first boom box. It was just the right size to fasten to the handlebars on my bicycle with a bungee cord or two. And when batteries lasted longer playing the radio instead of a cassette, songs like this made listening to the local FM rock radio station easy and right when I was finding my own music apart from my parents and school and the rest. That was the seventies, later seventies. Anyway. It was cool at first when The Who songs took over television in the late nineties, but saturation, over saturation, now fortunately fading so that the music itself can shine through. For a taste of The Who from way back check out "I Can't Explain", "Substitute", and "Pictures of Lily" or perhaps "I Can See For Miles".

  • @seamusburke639
    @seamusburke639 6 месяцев назад

    The lyrics were inspired by a real life incident. Pete Townshend came out of a long meeting straightening out The Who's finances, and even though he was successful, he was understandably strung out and went on a bender across London. Waking up in a Soho doorway and being sent off by a police officer who recognized him really happened.
    The part about the story that sticks out to me, though, is apparently at one point Pete ran into the Sex Pistols and they were concerned at how drunk and despondent Pete was.
    Just the image of Johnny Rotten patting a drunk Pete Townshend on the back like: "It's gonna be okay, man..."

It was their Physical Graffiti tour. I decided to take this waitress that I worked with and halfway through the concert, she fell asleep because she was bored. To this day, I don't know how you fall asleep at a Led Zeppelin concert but she did. I had already made plans to go out with friends of mine after the concert but she wanted to go home. You need to watch this video. Great lyrics, fantastic instrument work and just plain fun. It's one of the few videos where Live is better. The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again (Shepperton Studios / 1978)

    If you want an amazing blast of Keith Moon's hyper drumming, listen to the original studio version of "I can see for miles"... if you really listen it is insane!

    All time great band. Top 5. This was the decline of Keith Moon’s health, tho. If you guys wanna hear some awesome drumming from him, check out a teenage Keith Moon on “Daddy Rolling Stone”.

    BTW, the line in the song said "Rolling Pin", not Rolling Stones...
    The Who is a MUCH superior band to the stones... comparing them is an insult to The Who...

    My second date with my now husband he rented a small row boat. I had never been fishing and he was going to teach me how. I had a fish on my line right away . I reeled in a huge catfish . It started flopping around in the very small boat and I freaked out and tipped the boat . By the time we were able to get back to shore we both had really bad sunburns. 🫢😬 just a little embarrassing 😅
