Still hoping we'll see more differences in the type matchups cause I remember there was some obvious Pokemon interactions like Metal being the "resists too many others" type

My recommendation would be to find 1 more type! Then you could make a better looking version of the chart at 0:12 with basic being in the middle, dark and light around it like yin and yang, and the 12 elements forming a circle. Bonus points if you can balance the elements in a way that both makes sense (mostly), and results a rotationally symmetric chart!
Edit: fire -> ice -> nature -> electric -> water -> earth could form a nice circle where they beat each other in this order, fire -> nature -> water forms one internal triangle following the main cycle, while earth -> electric -> ice forms another triangle that goes in reverse. In this setup fire - electric, nature - earth and water - ice would be neutral pairs.

The idea of light and dark types being in a balancing paradox in terms of being both equal and never overpowering each other while staying strong is a cool idea

How about a Toon type like Pegasus' toon monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh? Toon types would be made out of ink and use western cartoon slapstick tropes as a fighting style like dropping anvils and pianos, throwing dynamite and cream pies, crying so hard they flood the opponent with their tears, etc.

  • @HidronUltrix

I got three things to say
    1) I think the ground and rock types make sense being separate from each other considering ice/water are each other but in different states
    2) I think the dragon type could be changed into the “arcane” type since that still relates to dragons and still fits as an element
    3) maybe a sound type would work since it’s a fundamental aspect of a world
Anyways great video, keep it up :)

    • @happyslapsgiving5421

But earth and rocks are not in different states.
Then again, maybe "Ice" should be "Cold" instead. That way it would be more different from Water than Ice is.

@@happyslapsgiving5421 honestly I could’ve used better wording or explained it better, what I meant is that ground type could mean sedimentary rock and rock type could be igneous/metamorphic rock. Also your idea does sound solid lol

I'd like the idea of Basic type resisting either spirit or psychic. Perhaps unlike Pokemon's normal type, Buddymon's normal type, Basic type could possibly be super effective against one type.

I was thinking of Cosmic or Space type in Buddymon for the Buddymon that are from outer space. It's super effective against basic types because super natural is overpowered by the basics. The weakness of it will be Metal because of technology to traverse into space. It will also interesting if few legendary Buddymon are from outer space and are Cosmic or Space type.

Hmm, with 14 types, and the dyad of Dark and Light, perhaps the other 12 could be split into four trios that interact together in the same way Fire, Water and Nature do, as a core from which to extrapolate their other interactions like Ice > Water.

I like the typings you chose, Buddy ! We must've been thinking alot alike too, because I did the same thing with Rock/Ground making an Earth Type as well. Ice being strong against Water was a no-brainer, Nature Type existing, Light Type existing, etc... I did opt to keep Fighting and Bug (renamed Insect Type for my own game) though, as well as add new types to make 18 Types, as I felt that number was just right and offered good variety. Looking forward to more from you !

I like the types you have made so far. I think that Spirit could be strong against Metal and Electric since ghost are said to usually known to levitate objects and mess with technology. Ice could be strong against Psychic due to the whole Brain Freeze pun.
I was also thinking that maybe you could also have a synergy function with the types were support moves of certain types will give a big boost in powers to buddymon of other types. Like a light buff move could greatly increase dark and a dark buff move could greatly increase light. Maybe a Air buff move could greatly increase electric buddymon. While an metal buff move could greatly increase electricity.

I loved almost every single changed you made.
Nature is more broad and encompassing than Grass. A lot of plants aren't grass.
Similarly, Light is way more broad than Fairy, while covering pretty much the same niche.
I've always said that Ground and Rock are too similar.
Air is more fitting the elemental theme than "flying", plus removing "flying" allows you to give each a more fitting type to those who have wings but they clearly belong somewhere else.
In fact, "Air" shouldn't be about all flying creatures, but rather those who have elemental affinity with air or use air as a mean of attack, propulsion, etc.
Fighting type is another type that I never liked, because _every single Pokémon_ is fighting in those games.
And them being specifically martial artists, therefore very human shaped, didn't help their case.
While I don't mind "animal group" types like Bug and Dragon (and, in fact, I've been advocating for adding a "Bird type" to put in place of all the Normal / Flying and a "Rodent type" encompassing route 1 rodents and Pikachu clones), I can understand why removing them altogether is also a sensible choice.
    NOW...
I did *NOT* like the "Basic" instead of "Normal" change, because I found it too moderate. Not daring enough.
I would have removed Normal entirely.
It's just another way to say "weak, uninteresting, flat, mediocre".
And I know that "Normal doesn't equal weak"... but that's exactly the reason why this Basic / Normal label shouldn't exist.
Speaking of Normal... in Pokémon, a sub-group of Normal are those Pokémon that are themed around sound / music / noise.
I feel that Sound is original and different, but consistent enough that it should be a type of its own.
Otherwise, they could also go under the Air label, using Air to propagate sound.

Since Mr Buddy thought of combining the Fighting type with Normal for Basic, would you rather the Basic type be replaced with a Martial type or something like that?

      @@Pikmanipulator
As I said... Normal / Basic shouldn't exist, and Fighting / Martial *DEFINITELY* shouldn't exist.
It's not a niche that needs covering.
      *ALL OF THEM* are fighting.
*NONE OF THEM* have to look like human martial artists.
And *NONE OF THEM* are normal... hence why it's monsters fighting, not a dog fighting or cock fighting. There, we found a new reason to remove "Normal"... the more normal they look, the more disturbing it is, and the more it offers the flank to the old Michael Vick argument.

    • @metalliholisti3728
      @metalliholisti3728 4 месяца назад +1

@lapsgiving5421 I think that the idea behind Normal/Basic is to be a non-elemental type. There are moves like Tackle, Scratch, Stomp, Body Slam etc. that just wouldn't make any sense if they are assigned to certain elemental type, because those kinds of movements are more dependent of the physical and anatomical features of Pokémon than the elements.

  • @noneofyourbuisness1679

I think at least one more type needs to be implemented - or at least, something needs to be clarified. Many have been clamoring for a Sound type to be added to Pokémon for those specific Pokémon themed around music, particularly vocal animals, and other audio thematic.
Off the top of my head, I could see them being effective against Psychic types, since loud noises can disrupt concentration, and Water types, since sound travels much faster underwater. Conversely, it would be weak to Nature types, since it's been found that sound vibrations may encourage plant growth, and Spirit types, since ghosts are dead and otherwise would be unaffected by any detrimental effects.

  • @PokeChrisis
    @PokeChrisis 6 месяцев назад +1

I agree with fighting type being removed and combine with normal, both types are usually just some form of animal or creature that fights that could basically describe any Pokemon.

  • @writingman1089

These are all changes that I wish Pokemon would do.
If things are still in flux I would suggest that toxic be effective against water? It's always bothered me that poison is only really effective against grass types (before fairy type was a thing) especially when things like oil spills can be catastrophic to the ocean.

I've had an interest / side hobby of making stuff for a Pokémon-like game as well, and I had a fun type chart variation I did earlier this year! I can link it if anyone's interested, but basically the short of it is I settled in on 16 types in total. Taking some logic from both the Pokémon Card games, as well as general fantasy TTRPG styles of elemental affinities and attacks.

If I may, when you put ice in water, you don't get more ice, but rather, more water. Once water gets cold enough to become ice, it can't drop in temperature any further, as it's already as cold as it can get once it's ice. But, if you put ice in water, it immediately starts to melt, as the warmer water heats up the ice. With that in mind, you could make it so that ice is weak to water. They could even be weak to each other if you really wanted. Alternatively, you could instead make an ability that's common among ice types, where if they're hit with a water or fire type move, they loose their ice typing and gain the water typing.

I've come up with something similar pokémon types for my own Pokémon-inspired fan idea.
My fan idea is called "Animaginn" (the name being a combination of "Animal", "Imagine" and "Jinn" which is another word for genie) and features animal-like creatures of various animal species that are living, extinct and legendary.
The Animaginn all utilize attacks and techniques of various Elements (which are based on the pokémon types) which there are 14 of them.
    1. Neutral: similar to Normal pokémon type, includes basic attacks and techniques using the creature's body.
    2. Fire: same as Fire pokémon type, includes smoke-based and molten rock-based attacks.
    3. Water: same as Water pokémon type, but includes ice-themed attacks.
    4. Earth: combination of Ground and Rock pokémon types.
    5. Air: features wind-based attacks and techniques.
    6. Nature: same as Grass pokémon type, includes plant and fungi-themed attacks.
    7. Electric: same as Electric pokémon type.
    8. Poison: same as Poison pokémon type.
    9. Metal: same as Steel pokémon type.
    10. Sound: features sound and music-based attacks and techniques.
    11. Light: features light-based and holy-themed attacks and techniques.
    12. Dark: features darkness and shadow-based attacks and techniques.
    13. Supernatural: combination of Ghost and Psychic pokémon types as well as adding attacks and techniques based on magic.
    14. Cosmic: uses attacks and techniques based on various astronomical objects such as stars, asteroids/meteors, stardust, black holes and the fundamental force of gravity.

Personally, I think the Light and Dark types should both be super effective against each other, since while light might usually prevail in the end, there are some rare instances where darkness reigns. And I'm not just talking about the usual battle between good and evil, I'm also referring to a hero falling to the darkness and turning into a villain and vice versa.

Glad that ground snd rock were merged into one. Makes a lot of sense. Also glad to see bug being removed completely.
I feel like Spirit can get the same treatment as bug though. Like you can have a Air based spirit buddymon and it not have to have the "spirit" type. Thats more of a body type in my opinion. Or maybe the ghostly buddymon could be part of the dark types.
Im iffy on removing the Dragon type. Like thats pretty iconic in a lot of monster games. Dragon energy is pretty well established.
Im not sure how to feel about removing fighting types. Like yea... its just punching and kicking things, but thematically its different than normal. And if Psychic is about the mind, then i would think there would be an opposite type that gocus on the body. Idk. I get it though.
Im surprised Sound type hasnt been added yet. For real pokemon, sound is basically the special normal moves. But now is a chance to fix that.
Regardless of any of my opinions, i love the thought put behind this!

  • @Pikmanipulator
    @Pikmanipulator 6 месяцев назад

The thing about types like Bug, Dragon, etc. is that they reflect the bodies of the Pokemon more than they do attacks. I could see a system where the creatures have their body type, which only matters in terms of defense, and they can use any variety of attacking types. Maybe there could be some overlap where a type can apply to both attacks and bodies (like a fire elemental?), but I wouldn't want to make things too complicated too quickly, and would rather the body types and attack types be completely separate from each other.
That's just me spitballing, though. It probably wouldn't fit for your project. Good luck going forward!

  • @NIMPAK1

A part of me wonders what a physical attacking "air" move would look like. When you look at regular Pokemon, a flying pokemon attacking with its wings or pecking with its beak would realistically be a normal-type move but is more often categorized as flying so flying pokemon can have physical moves with STAB.
Maybe "basic" could change depending on the pokemon type. Like a fire pokemon throwing out a punch would likely have fire properties (i.e. instead of there being different elemental punches, there's just a move called punch that changes depending on the pokemon). You could also have pokemon types be completely separate from move types, like you could have a "wing" pokemon that primarily uses "air" moves, but I imagine that would be insanely complicated and removes concepts like STAB.

How does Spirit and Psychic type interact though? Tht sounds like there are a bunch of interesting options that'd all in one way or another make sense actually.
And I'm kinda thinking, what if basic type in reagrds to spirit type and light, if that's the "holy" type, but that might be more complex of a uestion if it also is just "good" rather than holy is just resisting or even immune to both, as if Basic was like... "heretic" in that interaction... is that the correct term? Like... atheist but also for spiritual stuff, not only religious, so Basic doesn't giv a damn about both of these and therefore is completely unaffected or at least it's way less effective against it?

Like how does Air interact with Electric or Earth? How do Dark and Light affect Basic? What, if anything, is Basic strong against? How does Toxic affect Earth, Metal, Water, Ice, and Air?
