Mate your channel is a joke honestly your changing the RUclips scene in a awesome way I love the approach. Full respect. I feel like I don’t want to upload recently due to my content being the same as everyone else’s. I need to find my own path that I enjoy. I feel like you’ve done that perfectly
Yes I have stopped watching the main stream electrical RUclipsrs,no disrespect but your right there all the same
@@joe2395 I get it mate mate i do
@@jimbotheelectrician3819 look forward to your next vlog just come up with something different and not a game of hide and seek like Bundy's pathetic effort
That’s really kind to say mate. Find what makes you unique and incorporate what you enjoy ( exercise and running, family? ) and find a way to make your videos beneficial, and you’ll smash it mate. You’ve already got the platform! We will work together soon asap! Looks like some wicked work you’re turning out
@@corymac appreciate that bud. Yes 100%. Keep it up!
Cory you have nailed it if RUclips Electricians in the UK are to survive (there are only so many board changes you can watch) then they seriously need to change the type of content they are putting out it will be interesting to see what the Norwegian Electrician makes of UK working practices
Thanks mate! I’m trying my best 😅
Being from the U.S. it's awesome seeing how other places do electrical. Also Chicago requires by code steel conduit in homes.
tip. drill a small pilot hole when your drilling concrete with a less powerfull drill then you drill the bigger hole on one side half way through then meet it in the middle on the other side no blow out evey time
My grandad shared a similar tip 45 years ago. Brilliant 👏
it's the way I've always have done it and it naver fails , little more work but a great result is work the effort
Thanks for the tip!
Love what you're doing Cory. Really interesting approach. Something different. Well done mate.
Thanks Richard!
In Denmark everything is 3 phase as well, but in older buildings it's common for the mainboard to only be wired for 2 phase - which used to be the standard supply up until the mid-1960s or so. Even though the supply up to the meter has been upgraded to 3 phase everywhere, the 3rd phase will not be wired into the board unless everything after the board is rewired for it.
Nice video. The pre wired flexible conduit whe often use in the Netherlands is called Preflex, and is made by a Belgium company. If you prepare it well enough, not a single cable or wire needs to be pulled. Even switch wires, data, thermostat wires, doorbell, or cable tv, all in pre wired conduit
That’s cool!!
Yeah.. But being a dutch sparky myself.. I wont use that shit unless i have to. The only reason it excists is cutting cost. If something goes wrong with that stuff u are screwed. Normal conduit with loose wires is SO much better to work with.
Thanks so much, not an electrician but I love this. I can tell you’ve put alot of effort in. How you don’t have a million views on this already I don’t know. ( For the future record I am here at 28k subs )
Haha, thanks 🙏🏼
What a nice change Cory. You're a good lad and clearly a very talented electrician. Really enjoyed visiting Norway with you.👍👏
Thanks mate
The best way to make pre-wired conduit in the UK has to enroll the length on a long space if you can find one somewhere even if it’s offsite and then pull the wires through the conduit and forward them over at the end and it’s like the pre-stuff when you put it through, but it’s so much easier to do it then
What a great video! I'm not an electrician but I'm enjoying following your journey. Really interesting video- love the editing and some of those shots you managed to get in such a beautiful country!
Nice video, Corey. Here in Holland they put what you call the consumerunit always near bij the frontdoor because when theres a fire they can shut off the system when they (firemen) enter a house. Its not allowed to put it under a cupboard or put it in a place where you can't find it. its all regulated. and also the educationsystem for electricians. Again, like the videos. For me a new approach of video making on YT. Like it very much.
For the record, that’s true of new builds (post 1970 or so) but as you get further back in time the regulations get less stringent, and of course the units aren’t updated since then. Or at least not the location etc.
We pull the plug from the out side, they cut the house from the power network, but usually we have them by the door too
That’s great! We’re a bit behind here in the uk haha!
Absolutely brilliant video Cory, great to see how other countries do things…..looks an amazing place aswell….can’t wait for the next video
Thanks James 🤓👏🏼
Great film Cory, still the best, streets ahead of all the rest.
Well done, I look forward to the next episode, brilliant, regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
In Hungary we have conduit in walls for decades. In the old days they used aluminium wires which are still in a pain to work with. We doing few new builts here and most of the conduit are running in the floor under the underfloor heating pipes. I worked in the UK and the BS7671 is not that bad as most people think compering with our standerd. Add Hungary to your travel list and I can show you some interesting stuff in here😀
Keep up the good work with this channel its gonna be the best electritian show on YT.
That’s so cool! I’d love to come see it. Thanks Laszlo
Norwegian in Manchester here, from Stavanger as well, so of course recognised the Rasmussen Elektro van! Nice to finally see this comparison! I feel UK is only now catching up, boards like you see there we had probably 30 years ago. Would love a special issue t-shirt !

Hi Cory,
Norway uses the IT earthing system - the consumers appliances are connected to an earth rod ala TT but there is no utility provider connection to earth - there is essentially no fault loop to test - RCDs are used for protection instead almost entirely - the concept of using a low resistance path to clear a ground fault by allowing the case to short to ground just isn't in their book. In ways this is a safer system as the earth is not used as a conductor anywhere, which can in some cases cause people to get hurt - the only reason we used an earthing system with a bond to neutral (TNCS) to clear faults is because overcurrent devices were cheaper than RCDs and it meant the provider didn't have to run a dedicated ground either to do so.
But to be honest, the TT and IT systems are probably better now with the advent of universal RCD. TT combined with universal RCD use would probably be the safest, as the RCDs would limit the shock hazard of using the earth as a conductor anyway.
The only drawback to Norway's system is that a ground fault is nigh on impossible to find!
Quick note about Norway's electrical system! We have TN, TT and IT systems, we normaly have a IT and TN system, but Rogaland(Stavanger) have most of the TT systems. All houses usely have 3 phase 230V (IT and TT) or 3 phase 3 phase 400V (TN) :) Very good video mate! Really neat work also! Love it!
Looks like your breaker are all 2 pole (Phase and Neutral) or 4 pol ( 3Phase and Neutral)?
@@lubenbroadcasting986 Correct, 2 pol is Phase and phase(neutral) for IT and only TN has a "true" neutral. 4 pol is 3 phase and 1 neutral.
What kind of animal is 230V 3 phase? Most Europe has 3phase 400V or 230V single phase...how do you wire a socket then? With 2 different phases leading to it? Does this system have neutral wire and how is it handled? Sorry, this is just unusual, i don't know where else it's done like that...
@@andreismirnov7200 Well in Norway our IT system CAN be 3 phase, but usually isnt. Reason thats done is for large old warehouses or malls. That way you can balance the load on the L1-L2-L3. So in some sockets it can be L1-L2, or L2-L3 or L1-L3. Each L is half of 230V. It really doesnt matter which is the «neutral». Just keep it the same in that fuse or it’ll short. But it happens for some old buildings as well since we use more electricity than any other european country because it gets helluva alot colder, and we pretty much only use electricity for everything.
@@sack8439 thanks for intelligent reply. I guess grounding would also have to be paid a lot of attention to in IT, it has to be ideally organized and connected. How is RC protection organized in this case?
Really interesting and engaging content. It's like watching those travel vloggers but with more purpose behind it.
Thanks mate! Feel free to like and share with your friends, it definitely helps!
I liked you in the Artisan videos but am loving you even more in your own...Keep up the fantastic work, its been and hopefully will continue to be inspirational watching you build up your content and company. Thanks so much Terence. That’s really kind and thoughtful of you to say 😄👍🏼
@@corymac Mate you deserve it. Watching and following you on the Artisan channel used to make me think of you going it alone. It was such the right thing to do. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.. It's almost same here in Finland. That consumer unit is maybe made in Finland, at least looks like ABB breakers. Also notice mixed Eaton/ABB/Hager devices in the consumer unit
Fun fact, ABB also manufacture in the UK. They’re really good quality parts, but you don’t see many outside of commercial applications here.

Hi Cory,
This video had it all .Scenery, Wildlife, food ,beer, even Gretta for God sake. Its great that you are highlighting how things are done in other countries and the different requirements ,regulations and skill levels. it seems that that code reforcement is lax while litigation when damage is caused is the only determiner of who does quality installation and who wants to make a fast buck. Great questions asked and answered . Adrian thanks for the imput.
If the tug boats had pulled from Dover do you think Scotland would have smashed into Norway as they pulled the island out into the Bay of Biscay. ? Just asking. Cory your a Classic. "I buy Shampoo and all my Groceries at the Amazon"!!!

Nice video Cory granted some recording issues but bound to happen starting out on your own.
Content wise really good, would be interesting to see what you have coming next and where your travels might take you.
Thanks Ewan!
Cory,I am not an electrician but I have recently been watching a few of your videos and enjoy them very much. On the point of conduit for domestic use,in all my houses (late 1920/early 1930) there has been a type of egatube metal conduit. Although this is a press steel formed tube it gives a better protection than plastic. My daughter has recently had a new kitchen and the electrician clipped the cable to the wall. If errors occur when putting shelves up it’s a major job to replace wiring (tiles removed, chiselling out, plastering etc). In conduit it’s simple and may not happen in the first place due to the steel. So from a customers point of view bring back the sensible conduit protection.
Awesome! Thanks for watching Bernard! 😎👍🏼
I put conduit everywhere in my house when we gutted and rebuilt it. Trouble is, I listened to electricians who insisted it wasn't necessary so missed a few areas. But, when one came to do my kitchen extension, he exclaimed "Electrician's dream" - all he had to do was pull cable through - he still did a sloppy job and I had to work out what was wrong and fix it. I also have access points at strategic places in the floor - office hives, I think they're called - the sparks I've had (reputable, registered, recommended) wondered what they are because they haven't done offices - all though it was a good idea. Means I can run CAT5 and CAT6 cable in separate conduit to separate faceplates
Noooo, sorry to hear that!
I done a short course and i would say it's definitely rushed and very intensive, you still have exams to pass it's not a walk in the park and there's a insane amount to learn in such short time. Experience is was more important than qualifications.
Interesting 🤔. Thanks for the comment mate
“The Amazon” call made me chuckle.
Fantastisk kompis!
I’m doing the same from now on. 🤣🤣
Hei Cory. 👍🏼
Haha, thanks Darren!
I knew you were coming to Norway, I didnt know youd be in my area tho!
I recognized it straight away! Love the videoes, keep up the good work!
Personally, I don’t think hydropower is an environmental thing in this case. It’s simply it’s very viable and cost-effective when the power plants last ages. With renewable energy the issue is changing immediately can be bad because the minute you’re replacing things so much carbon is being released that it may take 30 to 40 years for that to be removed.
It is worth knowing that the way the distribution board is could definitely be installed in the UK and there are lots of options available but the main reason my in awkward places is terribly designed new built or really old buildings. Electricity was retrofitted so awkwardly under the stairs would have to happen.
I do believe in Norway though there is a bit of ripping apart walls for a rewire if the properties been done before a certain egg with conduit if there’s been a regulation change that means it had to be run differently now
Content is class mate, keep it coming. Great to see the Norwegian approach, opens up a conversation to the way we look at the way we work. Norway…what a country eh?! I’ll buy a Norway edition t-shirt… love the print 🤙

Great quality content cory. Very interesting to see as an Dutch electrician how the norwegians do it.
Thanks mate! Feel free to share the video with your electrician friends 🤓
I was interested to see what items of test equipment were used in Norway. It was quite surprising to see a young guy like Adrian using an analogue tester rather than a digital model. The Kyoritsu 3132A that he has was sold in the UK as a Robin K3105. Robin branded testers had rather less 'busy' (plainer) front panels than their Kyoritsu equivalent models and most were yellow (although not the K3105). Robin/Kyoritsu also made a version of the SA9083 generic test meter for the telecoms industry (aka ballistic testing) that looks very similar to the K3105. When Fluke bought Robin they discontinued all the rebranded Kyoritsu testers so Kyoritsu created the Kewtech (Kyoritsu Electric Works) brand for the UK market.
I haven't seen anyone use an analogue tester for ages (I'm in Austria). Fluke is quite popular here, as is Chauvin Arnoux for multifunction testers. Gossen Metrawatt of Germany also has quite a following. Then there's of course Metrel and Benning (famous for their Duspol voltage testers), although Benning MFTs are just rebranded Metrels. Back in the old days there were also Goerz and Norma. I once had a Siemens MFT from the 90s, decent bit of kit but the RCD function was a bit spartan, only did trip time at 1x current if I remember correctly and the regs require a ramp test so it wasn't much use.
That’s cool to know!
Great video mate , it’s got “Scott brown carpentry “ vibes awesome 👍 if your ever in north wales and need some work let me know 🤘
But no Jess to segue in to the sponsorship bit.

great vid Corey, what we need in UK is a consumer unit like that with say 50 ways so we can have more 4mm 20A radials and no rings,
Why 4mm? You can have a 20A radial on 2.5mm. 4mm is a pain when you need 3 conductors in an accessory.
@@havoctrousers length of run through insulation and not 3 cables in 1 accessorie, lots of small radials
More circuits also needed in Norway for electric heating of course. No fuse in plugs, so many smaller 16A radials for sockets is common.
Thanks William! I agree, I’ve started implementing it… coming soon!

Love the concept of zappii being able to monitor the current draw of itself along with the mains and adjust. In the states and Canada we have to have a minium of 200 Amp service for one charger. (Most homes have like 240 100amps) or 400amp or more for 2. You can imagine having 50 to 70 amps of power for an e/v charger with only a 100 amps wld be. I sent out an inquiry to zappii to see if they make a n. American version never heard back I wld imagine it wld be hard as it wld have to measure both sides of the transformer legs as we run a neutral at the center for 2 120v opposit phase but can combine them for 240 volts so yes technically usa Canada is 240volts +(avg phase in my area of new england runs 125volts + or - ) so it's more like 240 to 260v - but 60 hertz as opposed to 50hertz.
There is no national regulation or certification in the USA either the national government makes a new set of basic standards every 3 yrs called the national electric code but it's up to the states and even local government to adopt or make their own actual enforcable codes and bylaws plus they are responsable for permits and inspections. Trust me for the land of the free the government has a lot of control lol
Measuring split phase power isn't hard. You can run both legs through the same current transformer (but in opposite directions) to get the total current. And if they already have a version compatible with three-phase service the hardware should be perfectly fine for use on our 120/240.
It’s great isn’t it!

Thanks for this video. There seem to be many similarities between Norwegion and Dutch domestic electrics. 3 phase power, use of conduits, radial circuits etc. But maybe our licensing system is more similar to the British system.
