Also a myenergi Eddi energy diverter is in breach of Teslas terms of use as it stops export? I Know you cant use Solac 200 or Solar iboosts with them.

    • @corymac
      @corymac  Год назад

      Probably! But depends on the design. App can be used with a modbus. Email me!

    • @tceng9449
      @tceng9449 Год назад +4

      You can fit optimisers but I really wouldn't. They cause a lot of problems and the cost will be almost the same as putting the system up to start with as every module will have to come off the roof. Then when they fail you've got to work out how to get back up and change them.
      Tigo or Huawei optimisers might be more reliable than Solaredge but it's still a load of electronics and extra connectors you're putting out in the elements somewhere they're difficult to service.
      To be slightly less negative, depending on what inverter you've already got there's a small chance it might already be compatible with optimisers, the Tigo TS4 is compatible with a lot of different brands. If you are going to pull the system off the roof, you might work out that you'd be better off replacing all your old 250W modules with new 420W modules.
      On the "app capabilities" front, have a think about what you want out of it. You might find that your existing inverter can talk to a manufacturer portal but if not there are lots of third party devices out there. They can be for monitoring solar alone or for monitoring solar as part of a larger ecosystem. Whether that's a MyEnergi system for combining renewables, charging and variable loads or a whole house energy monitoring system.
      Finally on the 4kW thing... 16A (3.68kW) AC capacity is a number that's very easy to get through what used to be G83 approval and is now G98 approval from the DNO. For more than 16A per phase you need to fill in slightly more onerous G99 paperwork and a lot of people don't want the hassle of doing that.
      Generally you don't want more than about 30% more DC capacity than AC inverter capacity. You run in to limits of the inverter in summer, less than 125% in the UK you won't notice but yield per kWp starts getting noticeably affected beyond 130%. That means that most domestic installs end up being around the 4-5kWp mark which happens to be a nice size for most house roofs and typical house energy consumption. You can get a 6kW single phase hybrid inverter, put 8kW DC on it with a battery and have a lovely system provided you've got someone to fill in the forms for you and your local DNO is amenable.
      We're about to start a project with 30kW of single phase inverters spread across two phases and that's going to need export limitation. It's going to be fun getting all the communications working on that!

    • @ram64man
      @ram64man Год назад +2

      Don’t forget that if your getting the fit tarriff you aren’t allowed to touch the panels, if your inverter has failed it has to be replaced with the same capacity, that’s why if adding more solar installers add there own inverter to keep it separate, since additional solar isn’t covered under fit and will need a second meter

    • @laurencelagden

      Panels usually have a warranty for 25 years but NOT ALL of them. So have the panels tested to confirm their output. Solar Edge optimisers are good however Very Expensive compared to say Tigo Optimisers. Im assuming the inverter isnt a brand well known or supported today so id suggest replacing the inverter with a 3.6kW Solis inverter (Im assuming your 4kW is at the inverter but the maximum in panels for this inverter id suggest only going to around 4.8kW some people will tell you 5.2kW is fine but youll lose energy in heat unless you go for a larger inverter) with Tigo optimisers. Rough Costing for parts would be around £30 - £35 per panel for optimisers and around £800 - £1000 for the inverter. Say 14 panels youd be looking at a cost price of around £1320 - £1520 and then the installers fee of roughly £300 a day and 40% markup on materials. Id give them 2 days if its just an upgrade. Your estimated cost would be around £2448 - 2728 for this upgrade so id only do it if absolutely necessary.

    When the title said fixing a "terrible" install, I was thinking you meant average and not the literal meaning of terrible. Now I'm no electrician, but I would have thought that it was a bodge done by someone with no training. It's sooo bad, dreadful, s**t etc etc etc. It's so much worse than terrible.

    Was the CT on a DC line or AC? If AC it's hard to see how being the wrong way round would affect is as you can only measure the direction of DC power flow like that, AC direction is a bit more complicated.

    • @petehiggins33
      @petehiggins33 Год назад

      The power meter determines the direction of power flow by comparing the phase of the current with the phase of the voltage. So reversing the connection of the CT reverses the indicated direction of current flow. There's no such thing as a DC CT.

    • @mfx1
      @mfx1 Год назад

      @@petehiggins33 Hall effect sensors used for DC are still called CT's even though they're not technically transformers, reversing an AC CT won't change the phase measurement also you need both the phase/magnitudes of both the current and voltage, the CT will only.give you the current.

    • @petehiggins33
      @petehiggins33 Год назад

      @@mfx1 Reversing a CT will most definitely invert the phase of the current signal and reverse the indicated direction of power flow. The power meter has to obtain the voltage from somewhere else.

    I think we need to move to the more American system of independent inspectors to sign off a system once installed, removing the need to the property owner to rely upon the installer to have done what they say they have done.
    The actual install engineers need to also be listed in certification documentation and held accountable when an install is found to be not up to standard. Hopefully ending the lack of accountability from companies who sub-contract and don't really know who did the work but generate the certs and take your money.

As far as I know only the Dutch and the Scandinavian language contains a word like it. It indeed is a word for an cosy atmosphere of some sorts. Kind of hard to explain in English...
