  • We had some snow this morning so I wanted to show everybody how the Hyundai Ioniq 5 AWD handles the snow. I also look at how my new Bosch Icon windshield wipers perform. We also follow up with how the coatings I applied to the rear window perform.

In winter driving, AWD or not, there is no substitute for snow tires! AWD will keep you from getting stuck, but it won't help you stop, in fact it can let you get a bit more confident than perhaps the actual grip should permit. Here in Ottawa, at the start of every winter, the first cars we see in the ditch or on telephone poles are AWD cars that decided they didn't need snow tires. Living in a cold climate, the general advice is that when temps drop below about 6 C, you should switch to winter tires even on dry roads as the rubber compound in all weathers starts to significantly degrade as far as dry pavement braking distances are concerned. Cheers.

I wonder why it's even street legal to drive with summer tires in snowy conditions. Here in Austria, it would not.

Here in Québec where we get lots of snow ❄️ and it gets down to - 40 degrees Celsius in winter, winter tire ares mandatory by law. Forget all season tires. In the cold they harden and lose their traction.

If the Michelin CrossClimate 2 can go on the Ionic 5, that's probably all you need. They have the same rating as actual snow tires, better than some even. I live around Portland, which does get snowed in from time to time. This review helps a lot with decision making.

The Toyo Celsius CUV all-weather tires on my Sorento were fantastic in the 3' of snow we had here in Canada over the holidays. That said they're pretty noisy on the highway - I think they'd be even more obnoxious on an EV. I have an EV6 pre-ordered, looking into EV-specific winter tires now

I wonder why driving fast is such a common feature of RUclips car reviews? The tail slide mentioned is due to forces exceeding tire energy levels caused by excessive speed. Stopping performance is not mentioned, at least, I do not notice. 2022 Ioniq 5 SE, RWD 13890 miles, no issues driving in cold wx except the known EV range decrease.

Regardless of what rain repellent you use, it’s obviously important to clean the glass thoroughly before applying it.
However, I also recommend a proper glass polish treatment in between the two.
That’s right! After a thorough cleaning, dry it properly, and go over with some glass polish.
Let it sit until it’s dry, and rub it off. Make sure it’s spotless again before applying your rain repellent.

Used to drive Subaru in New Hampshire and now ionic 5 upstate NY. Always used snow winter tires which saved me quite a few times. ionic 5 is a heavy car and larger and heavier the car the stopping distance and cornering abilities will always suffer. For my winter set , I bought 18 inch used Mazda rims, Bridgestone blizzard from Costco, TPMS sensors eBay shipped from Korea . Total investment just over 1100$. Just had first snow storm upstate ny . Blizzards always the best . One caution 18 inch hardly fit the car.

Omg I never even noticed that it continually said Electric Vehicle. That's funny and unnecessary. The only other vehicle in my budget was the ID.4 and the infotainment was abysmal. From the day I saw the Ioniq 5 I knew I wanted it just for the styling. Charging speeds are amazing, power is crazy compared to any car I've ever owned, the openness of the cabin is nice, and critically, it's rated to tow which is perfect for my camper that never leaves New England. I can get anywhere I wanna go with probably one charging stop.

Ioniq 5s seem to be holding value nearly as well as Tesla, has a 10 year/100k mile warranty, and a much more comfortable suspension.
