    The Ioniq 5 is a very capable car. I put on 8200 miles in June over a three week trip from Maine to Nebraska, Santa Fe-NM, Bluff-UT, Olema-CA, Seattle, then back to Maine through Salt Lake. Love miles. 59 charges mostly with EA and used their app because of the Hyundai deal with EA. Cost me under $17 for electron fuel. No trouble with the car, some finicky chargers now and then, average charge time 18 minutes, charging to 80-85%, only down to 10% once. Saw others charging at most chargers, but never had to wait in line. Used lane keep and dynamic cruise control on interstates made for a relaxing drive IF you avoid one danger, nodding off. Caffeine helps.

    This is a great benchmark for some summer road tripping. I'm almost a month away from my road trip and can't be more excited. I would love to do some further driving but I have a 1300 mile road trip from NY to Ohio coming in November too. All these details and quirks I will surely take into account on my trip too. Thanks again for the video!

    Whoa you really put in the miles/time. Driving for over 4 hours straight between charging is a helpful perspective.
    You're right about doing things while the Ioniq 5 is charging. It makes sense and is healthier to walk around, get something at a market, and kinda recharge yourself. I always feel refreshed and glad I took the break. I never took those kind of breaks driving a gas car.
    When you tested the car running the battery to empty seemed to help encourage confidence when taking the Ioniq 5 below 10%. It's still strange to hear your charge level when you arrived at the EA stations. But I'm glad you shared that info. Long road trips are really no big deal as long as fast charging is available.

    • @TheIoniqGuy
      @TheIoniqGuy  2 года назад +1

      I will say it was nice to take a few extra stops for a personal "recharge." Yes, knowing that I was going to have 7 or 8 solid miles past zero really made me feel more relaxed about pushing down into the single digits for arrival at EA stations.

    Good information. Checked out the Electrify America app for my state, North Dakota. There are no EA locations shown for here, which is exactly what my dealer told me. Shame about the 2 years of no cost charging. The best local charger and best on route across state is 62 kw. It will improve but will take time.

    We just came back to Norway after driving through Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Denmark. The Ioniq 5 was flawless on the trip. Comfortable seats after thousands of kilometers driven. Stable at 190 km/h on the Autobahn. Charging was no issues at all and no thermal issues even on the Autobahn. Slept two nights in the car just for the experience, Utility Mode along with the Lively Forest sound effects, slept like a baby. Being 6.1 I had no issues stretching my legs. One thing that was annoying, a new highway in Poland was not in the navigation system even after updating prior to the trip. Usually went down to around 5% SOC and charged to 90% mostly using the Ionity network. HDA really takes the stress out of driving and less tiring on those long stretches. Happy campers!

    Glad everything went well! When I did my trip to Florida, it was also very hot and humid when charging.
    While I never experienced the vibration in the steering wheel like you noticed, I heard the cooling system working overtime. It would usually quiet down once the battery hit about 39°C max. It’s also interesting how much power it would use in the process of dropping the temp down from 45-50°C. Killed about 2-3% after certain hot charges.

    • @42dunbar
      @42dunbar 2 года назад

      I noticed the battery cooling kick on in the Ioniq 5 I rented with temps in the upper 90’s here in Portland. I think Teslas are the same. When the battery cooling fan kicks on you can really hear it.

On my current car (I'm on the wait list for I5 at 2 dealers here in Baltimore area), the ACC will adjust perfectly to the vehicles in front. Can the I5 use ACC without HDA? Thanks!

  • @ArtiePenguin1

    19:40 I think the drop to around 30 kW might have been an EA station issue. Usually when the cable cooling sensor fails it limits to 30-37 kW. However you said that it came back up again, usually the cable cooling issue doesn't resolve on its own so it could have been your car's battery as you initially said.

    Haven’t road tripped yet in our SEL, but want to. I have experienced as you say some trouble with “driving assist 2” on an elevated expressway where it suddenly stops working briefly, then reactivates with several occurrences . It’s annoying. The road surface is new white cement with good paint on the shoulders. It’s a head scratcher for sure. Otherwise it has worked as expected.

      I also had that same sort of thing happen on an elevated section of I 695- Baltimore Beltway near the Key Bridge. Kind of unsettling when it happens. Otherwise my trip was good, 172 miles with 4.3 miles per kWh. Had a good recharge at Electrify America near Rosedale- charged at 150kW with no problems although two of the four chargers at that station were out of service with an electrician there working on them.

    Thanks for the video and info - Just FYI - your experience locating and using the plethora of charging stations in the Northeast Corridor is not typical of other parts of the country. I am planning a roadtrip in late Spetember to drive our newly purchased Ioniq5 from New York State to the McAllen, TX area. Charging stations of any kind (except Tesla Superchargers) are few and far between in south Texas. ABRP, as sucky as it is, is the only route planner I've found that attempts to route us the entire trip. After seeing all of our current charging choices, we'll probably need to spend an extra night at a hotel in Corpus Christi with a destination charger to make the trip. Unless Tesla opens up their network by September. Thanks again.

When we drove, the speed control was detecting exit speed limit signs positioned close to the highway and in some cases abruptly slowed the car down to the exit sign limit on the highway. I turned off the speed limit sign monitoring functionality thinking this could be a serious issue. I wasn't a fan of it anyway.

      Hey question for you since you are well versed and updated in the vehicle. I had my vehicle into the dealer because my vehicle will not charge on Maximun with a 40amp charger. It’s turns off after about 40 minutes sometimes longer. So they only way I can get it to charge is using the minimum setting with the 40amp level 2 charger. When I got to EA it charges fine no issues. Hyundai did some testing and they said it works fine. Turns out they use a charge point charger at 32 amp. So that was a worthless exercise. Kind of frustrated it will not charge on maximum setting on a 40amp device. I have a juicebox 40 level 2 charger. Have you heard of this before?

    • @TheIoniqGuy
      @TheIoniqGuy  2 года назад

      Hyundai is aware that there is something going on. I spoke with one of their engineers last week and he said that their R&D division here in the US is investigating. It certainly is very frustrating though. I've reset my ChargePoint homeflex several times because I had something similar happen but after resetting it it went back to 50A. So my guess was it was the EVSE not the car itself.
