Quick tutorial about how to disassemble / replace the keyboard in Lenovo X1 Carbon 2 generation.

Just finished installing a new keyboard using this video. Took about 2 hours, but I was going very slowly... it all works... Cheers!
Murmad Man water I guess
@@Denis-pi8ud or wine, in my case (:
Fantastic video, buddy! Very few people will attempt this repair. While I have never replaced a keyboard on an X1 Carbon, I have replaced one for both an X240 and X250, and after you've done it once, it's far less intimidating. Biggest tip for anyone attempting this the first time is to ensure you have the correct tools. I would highly suggest iFixit's line as they come with all necessary drivers and nylon splugers to mitigate any chassis damage, alongside a magnetic bin to keep loose screws. Secondly, watch this video at a slower speed a couple of times before you attempt doing this. It's not as difficult as it seems, but it far more advanced than other laptop repairs, so keep this in mind and know your limits. Got yourself a new subscriber! Awesome work :)
thank you so much for this! i managed to replace my keyboard! when i first watched the video i thought omg this is impossibkle for me, but after watching it three times i felt like ok actually i could make it. now i am a happy thinkpad x1 user again :)
Did you put the exact model keyboard or there was some differences on model nomber or what?
didn't fix my laptop, but felt like a badass hacker listening to this
You are amazing! This really helped me refurb my beautiful X1
Absolutely Fantastic video. I also have one like this and the adaptive Key ist dirty. IT IS possible to Clean It or It would be better replace It. And how?
Odd that you have to remove everything just for keyboard, makes you second guess on getting a x1 carbon in general.
Do you often break keyboards then?
Yeah T series it’s like two screws under the battery. This had like 30 tiny screws after you take everything out. I’m just glad you can actually repair it unlike modern MacBooks (I have an Air cannot even upgrade ssd or ram)
Thanks a lot. First try it said battery error so I was like oh shit I fucked up but I took it apart again and rescrewed it and it works great now thank you
You’re welcome :)
Very nice, thanks for the upload!
thank you for your vdo instruction, im so unlucky with Lenovo just purchased Lenovo x1 gen7 its battery system does not detect i think it might because of battery problem
Excellent video. Thank you very much for the help.
You’re welcome
Great Video! it helped me a lot. Thank you very much!! You are great!
You dont need to take off the fan or wifi/mobile/SSD cards, they can come out attached to the motherboard as one
Do you know a video where that have been done?
liking the music
Hi, what screwdrivers are needed? Greetings for Germany :)
Would Carbon 6th gen work without it's own screen and battery?
Have a totally damaged case...
I've never seen a softer Thinkpad keyboard
Thanks for putting this up here. Is it an issue to reassemble things and apply the thermal paste in a day or so after it arrives? Is the laptop unable to dissipate heat sufficiently without it?
I wouldn't recommend it but the system would start and run, just at a high temperature so things would either go very slow or your system would freeze. My understanding is that it could cause long term damage if you run it long or do too much with it.
Thanks. That helped out a lot
You’re welcome :)
How would you do this job if you ordered instead the total front assembly that comes w/Keyboard Palmrest, Touchpad USB & Mini Display Board, USB & Audio Jack Board, Speakers?
is it the same for the x1 yoga gen 2 ? Because i could find any tutorial replacing the keyboard for the X1 Yoga . Thank you
Hi. No, it’s not the same. X1 Yoga have totally different keyboard.
@@fixstudioTV thank you ! , is there any documentation /Video how to replace the keyboard of the yoga x1 Gen 2 ?

Sometimes, some of my keys stay retracted even after opening or switching back from tablet mode. Will a keyboard replacement fix this problem?
This is on my x1 YOGA gen 2 by the way.
that is a feature of your yoga that probably isnt the best idea but i digress, have you tried joining and asking on the lenovo forums?
ok i need some advice , i need to replace the keyboard on my x1 yoga gen 2, 20JD I'm thinking about buying a cheaper one from ebay and save couple hundred dollars but idk if i should buy the complete keyboard and bezel or just the keyboard unit , which one is easier to replace. or do both involve me taking it completely apart?
Hi. Buy just the keyboard. Replacement is not so hard.

Thermal paste, to allow heat to dissipate and stop your system from overheating
