    Just finished installing a new keyboard using this video. Took about 2 hours, but I was going very slowly... it all works... Cheers!

    Fantastic video, buddy! Very few people will attempt this repair. While I have never replaced a keyboard on an X1 Carbon, I have replaced one for both an X240 and X250, and after you've done it once, it's far less intimidating. Biggest tip for anyone attempting this the first time is to ensure you have the correct tools. I would highly suggest iFixit's line as they come with all necessary drivers and nylon splugers to mitigate any chassis damage, alongside a magnetic bin to keep loose screws. Secondly, watch this video at a slower speed a couple of times before you attempt doing this. It's not as difficult as it seems, but it far more advanced than other laptop repairs, so keep this in mind and know your limits. Got yourself a new subscriber! Awesome work :)

    Odd that you have to remove everything just for keyboard, makes you second guess on getting a x1 carbon in general.

      Yeah T series it’s like two screws under the battery. This had like 30 tiny screws after you take everything out. I’m just glad you can actually repair it unlike modern MacBooks (I have an Air cannot even upgrade ssd or ram)

    You dont need to take off the fan or wifi/mobile/SSD cards, they can come out attached to the motherboard as one

    Thanks for putting this up here. Is it an issue to reassemble things and apply the thermal paste in a day or so after it arrives? Is the laptop unable to dissipate heat sufficiently without it?

    • @BrianMcKennaPuffnfresh
      @BrianMcKennaPuffnfresh 4 года назад

      I wouldn't recommend it but the system would start and run, just at a high temperature so things would either go very slow or your system would freeze. My understanding is that it could cause long term damage if you run it long or do too much with it.
