    IN this video I show how to replace a keyboard on a Lenovo X1 Carbon that was brought into my shop for repairs here in Savannah GA. Sourcing out this keyboard can be a bit difficult as you will need to gain access to the entire bottom half of the keyboard in oder to locate the proper part number. I ended up ordering this keyboard from China.

    Morning Tim - user spilled a drink into their Gen 1 while on a Zoom call (Covid 19 days) and found your video to help me out. Cheers!

    Thanks for the tutorial. In my case I didn't have sound from the left speaker and sound from the right speaker came out distorted. I opened the laptop and after a while saw that the audio connector was inserted askew. I pushed it all the way in and that solved the problem!

      Jeff the video really simplified things when watching. Lots of editing believe me there were many frustrating moments. It was a bit of a nightmare to replace that keyboard. Thanks for watching and commenting again.

    going to attempt this for work this week. Bit of a piss poor design for the keyboard to be replaced. I have seen so many other gens where you just pop out the keyboard from the front and you are good to go.

    My labor rate has just gone Up after watching that video on that style of Laptop, just how many screws do you need to hold a keyboard in. Great Video Tim keep up the Great work.

      The good thing is that those laptops are high end priced anyway. People will pay a premium price for repairs on these Carbon laptops. Thanks for watching.

    interesting, Ive got an x 1 carbon but my particular model doesn't require going in through the bottom to remove the top panel/keyboard, after removing the screws on the bottom you can easily just remove the top panel that has the keyboard, however I'm at a loss as to how to remove the keyboard itself from this top panel

    • @TimsComputerRepair
      @TimsComputerRepair  7 лет назад

      What model exactly is it? You may be better off getting the entire palm rest with keyboard attached.

    LOL. I could've sworn at the start you said "...find out how you can Shit me your laptop for repair", now that's giving Amazon drone service a run for its money. Good job mate I hate lenovos a few Toshiba's are like that too billions of screws, still, at least they haven't started making laptops as sealed units...yet!

      You made me LOL so hard with that comment. Interesting you talk about sealed units as that's the way the phones are going. Dying industry that phone repair. Thanks for watching and commenting. Good to see you around.

      Lol yeah... It is however a good thing that the design kept liquid from going deeper into the laptop. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Judging from this video it looks like the trackpad could be easily replaced (no components are in the way). Is this true? I need to repair my X1 trackpad and I am assessing the risks of DIY.

    • @TimsComputerRepair
      @TimsComputerRepair  7 лет назад

      I would say that would be a relatively easy fix.

    • @PoetryRocksAlot
      @PoetryRocksAlot 7 лет назад

      Well my trackpad (x1 yoga, not the x1 carbon) has a rattle. Lightly tapping or double tapping in the center of the trackpad will produce an audible "click". Would I be able to fix this without replacing the trackpad?

    I remember not so long ago when keyboards were easy to change. That thing was a nasty sticky-tape botch job of a computer, horrid! Thanks for the video ;-)

      TimsComputerRepair sorry I am trying to change the smallest screws of the keyboard, would you mind to tell me which screwdriver did you use for them. thanks.

    • @mikenagoya

      Quickest and easiest thing to do would be to get a blutooth keyboard and not worry about special screws and tools, that is, if you don't have the money to send it to Tim ;-)

    • @TimsComputerRepair

      You will have to grind down the screw heads with a dremel tool.

    I thought these were meant to be (somewhat) spill proof? Surprised a spill killed it.
    Edit: heres a video from lenovos own channel: ruclips.net/video/2FnWqrvjCow/видео.html

      Yeah Lenovo's video claims liquid "resistant". That video is a bit misleading.

  • @QGJohn

    Whoever designed this keyboard and how it mounts needs to be SHOT!!! I would have been fine with having to take off the bottom plastic. But then you should have had, like at the most, 4 screws to remove and the keyboard should have lifted out of the front. Shame on Lenovo for such a stupid design!

    • @TimsComputerRepair
      @TimsComputerRepair  5 лет назад

      Yeah they buried it pretty deep with tons of screws to remove.
