  • A demonstration of how I painted this guys head, made it into a fun 8 x 8 " head and shoulder painting. Done in Tombow ink and watercolor, with a lot of acrylic paint added. It was a lot of fun and I encourage you to mess around with a drawing and do one of your own. Draw the face loose and use plenty of circular searching lines, light in tone, then darken the ones you like more.
This gives you an energetic looking drawing and shows the process . If you use dissolvable ink the paint covers the lines in unpredictable ways. Think of contrast in light and dark, both under the head and foreground to background contrast. Most important thing here as always is practice and draw as much as you can to keep loose. See how I started with big circular shapes and then found my shapes that make the eyes, nose jaw.. I left out indicating the mouth because I didn’t feel the expression until the end.
