How to paint an abstract flower painting

Join me on this journey, where I start painting over something not knowing what will come out of it. I used the under painting of a portriat I started to launch off of, and arrrived at an abstract painting, in which I then saw had flowers in a vase possibilities, so I enhanced that idea. It's all about seeing shapes, and making them interesting to hold the viewers attention, using the usual things; design/composition, tonal value, color, shape and texture. Also, contrast busy areas with quiet areas, line with painterly areas, loud splashes etc. Use a composition that allows the eye to make sense of the painting without getting confused. Sometimes I can't be bothered to make use of these tools, and I love to let loose and fill up the painting with everything I can think of, but I find its better when I have harmony and composition.

My only suggestion is don't think about who you're doing anything you enjoy for.. Only do it because you feel you want to. so don't stop, I'm sure it will lead on to better work.:}
