The supercharger whine paired with the boxer sound is really unique! I like it!
Tomcat you watch his vids too.... Woah
check out Prime Motoring out. They build turbo frs/brz with 6466 and make good power. Their instagram is @Primemotoring.
TOM CAT OMFG i wonder is EK watches it
please consider aspiration for your frs TomCat

I can totally imagine how the twin screw setup feels more "natural" than the turbo versions would be, I'm sure it felt really good to be behind the wheel of any BRZ/FRS again! Great job.
Thanks man! Yeah it definitely felt good to be back in one!
If the FRS/BRZ came out with a stock turbo it would probably be the one i would recommend for a fun car.
Why is this guy here ?
*****
They've met in real life and reviewed each others cars :p
Holy crap ThatDudeinBlue Where aren't you commenting?

Awesome Vids though keep them coming!
One of the best looking FR-S I've seen in a while.. Great review!
Glad you got to review this car while you were here matt! Glad to see you giggle like a school girl about it! Haha jealous of you!!!
Woah small world bro I saw you on thesmokingtire and I stated following you now I see your comment here haha
The people complaining about how this car has an automatic trans are not true car enthusiasts.. Just appreciate the damn car for what its for.
I enjoy them paddles
I've owned 3 FRS's, drove the MT for 50,000km and the two AT's for around the same. I prefer the AT, I don't think it's lazy at all, shifts insanely fast and I get much more consistent times with it. I also find the AT much more comfortable to drive all around and I have much more fun with those paddles than I did manually shifting. I was pressured into MT by people saying "it's an enthusiast car, you need the MT! It's only a 4 banger!" so I went for the trade in and within 10,000km I was missing my AT. Honestly anybody knocking the FRS AT needs to suck a hairy nustack and get over themselves; they act like driving a MT makes them special or some shit meanwhile I know 16 year old girls who can drive MT - believe me you aren't special. The car is slow with both transmissions by the way, the AT is by far the superior track car if you choose to supercharge and make it launchable from a numbers standpoint - it's also way more relaxing to drive and it's just as tail happy for the fun times, and better gas mileage (and you won't have to replace the clutch with how hard this car is driven so better reliability) People who shit on others for personal preference need to get their heads checked.
Thank you! I'm so tired of these idiots that bash on people for driving auto. I've driven manuals all my life and it doesn't make you special like you said. Anyone who hates on auto users have probably never driven one of the newer cars with auto and paddle shifters.
I currently own a 2015 FR-S AT and I wanted to trade in for a 2013 FR-S MT but I just don’t know what to do I really love my AT but I just feel like I missing something
I feel like off camera he's coming up with plans on how to take over the world
+Victor “Bigsexy” Oliveira lol the hands
he does has a very menacing look about him..haha
He kinda reminds me of Randal Weems from Recess when he has his hands together lol
The look on his face and laugh he let out once he got on the gas is priceless lol.
Man he looked like a kid in a candy shop. Pure excitement
Totally enjoy watching your reviews, you are a total car freak, and I observe you get excited driving every car you review.
This car looks amazing and well tuned you're lucky to have been able to test it Matt, I Love the SC whine, beautiful exterior look too!
Idk where they found the designers for the 86,brz,frs but they need to give them a nobel peace award. Hands down sexiest affordable cars to date.
I missed your reviews, loved the video Matt!
Holy crap!!! Damn man, I'm happy for you, for getting this opportunity!
Looks like a really well put together, FRS. Looks super fun
I have the 2015 automatic/paddle shift and I love it. I get a lot of looks and people always trying to audition for me to race! I have "Parkhurst Racing" on it, and I have to admit this vehicle is not a bad car. It handles better then my Porsche did!
Great to see you back in a brz/frs
like always .... this guy has the best first impression expressions , makes me feel like I'm there lol great job !
Man, just from the drive by it already sounds beautiful.
I'm loven that sweet supercharger noise!!
His giggle when he feels the power of the car is funny as hell, makes the video fun to watch lol
I'm buying this car because of this review thank you for helping me choose my first car. you're enthusiasm hit me through the screen
wonderful subscribed.
Awesome review. My favorite part is 11 minute mark until the end. It makes me excited to get some more mods myself. I can't wait to see what you do next
automatic?! what the FUCK
Why the fcuk not !!!!!
Slickpete83 because your lazy fcks, he said it himself, it was a full second slower
ltwargssf R
and in your daily driving that equals.....not a fuckin thing. You would think by youtube comments that every driver of every fuckin car was a race car driver. It's a 200hp fuckin car. Even this one he has he said like 250.
Every fanboy of these cars claim "it's not about the hp, it's about the handling". If that's the case why the fuck do you all cry about it's speed with auto?
Mook aton Actually less power makes an auto feel slow. I mean a 2005 scion xb with a stick feels like a race car next to an auto civic >_> There's a reason why the Civic Si only comes with a stick.
But to each his own obviously, some people just want to cruise.
Automatic = paddle shifters.
You look really happy behind the wheel.
I love how excited you get for every review :)
This might sound stupid, but I like how the rims on both sides "swoosh" in the same direction. I hate it when the rims on the left go in the opposite direction as the ones in the right. I need symmetry. : )
Your the reason why I want to buy an Scion FR-S when I turn 16. :D
hey matt, you should make a compilation of all your expressions whenever you do an acceleration. you look like you're having fun with all the cars you've driven.
i love how u get so excited and passionate about the cars haha
Your reaction when you punched it is awesome!! I enjoy your videos a lot.
The car looks so much better with the JDM Toyota headlights and Toyota badges. Always thought subaru badges on this thing looked out of place.
Great car would like to drive it one day.
+Toyota4Life I kind of agree. The Scion badge gets a pass, but Subaru's solid and asymetical badge kind of subtracts from the car's overall look IMO. I plan on debadging my FR-S when I get one anyway (except for the actual FR-S badge).
+Toyota4Life Subaru designed the engine and everything so it is technically a badged Subaru.
I love this guys face when he first steps on the gas and opens it up. hahha big fan of this guy.
Hell yah, keep 'em coming boys !! Toyobaru seriously needs to see the vast amount of supercharger/turbocharger kits the aftermarket is putting out and making them work on these cars, and produce a production model of their own with some sort of forced induction for more power. I can't believe they still have no plans of making the car with more power, yet in just a few years, there are so many F/I options for this car. Toyobaru, get your act together and this will go down as the greatest cars made in a long long time. It already is halfway there, but the power and torque are a serious let-down. Thank you Matt for the video, though the supercharged part is the only good mod on this car IMHO.
Yeah I agree with you. They went overboard with the exterior look. The looks remind me of a riced civic.
Tazer Raze yah no reason for two spoilers
In house competition with the WRX/STi? Doubt it.
Oh come on man. What in-house competition? One can be a high powered rwd sportscar while the other can be a proper rally car with 4 doors and awd. Saying this is an in-house competition is like saying the M3 shouldn't exist because the M5 is there.
Isn't there a trd gt86 with a supercharger in Europe? I might be mistaken...
This kids going to be the next Chris Harris! Good for you buddy! Keep up the great work!
COOL Review: Innovate Supercharged Scion FR-S
Such a clean intro. Perfect music man.
I like how you look like a kid in a candy store with this car. Thank you for sharing this car and how the supercharger improved this car. :-)
Thts always been my dream, to put Vossen CVT's on a Frs. Gonna do it to mine.
This guys face at 4:18 looked as if he stuck it in for the first time and is overwhelmed of how good it feels...
Haha!! You have the best reactions!! Keep on doing what your doing man!!!
Could you possibly publish a complete list of the aftermarket upgrades?
Thanks!
Haha awesome to see you like that SC so much. The FRS is pretty good standard but the chassis can handle a lot more so this for sure is a good upgrade. People that think its all about horsepower...well - never mind
Correction on the "sun shade" it's called a window visor
"I love it. I love it!" I love when matt maran gets giggly. I love it!
This is exactly what you should have done when you had your Brz.
Exactly the amount of power I think would be perfect for the FRS.
Matt you legend please do more reviews of modified cars love this review so much
8:38 that sound lol
Damn that thing sounds sick! Supercharger doing that thing justice.
7:23! Was that Smeagel from LOTR talking?! Lol.
Why didn't Toyota/Subaru simply produce a supercharged version themselves? They must have known people would want more power. The car is obviously capable of dealing with the extra power without messing up the handling.
Keyboard Dancers Subaru wanted to release a more powerful engine, but Toyota didn't want the BRZ to have more performance when the twins released.
Keyboard Dancers Usually because a supercharger also robs power from the engine as a result of being belt driven. Any accessory belt causes engine drag - which isn't great on 4 cylinder.
The idea behind the car was that younger people would buy it, and then work on it themselves.
also they wanted it to stay under 25k to compete with the miata
+jakfolisto Thank God the Subaru BRZ-STI version is coming out soon. It's been confirmed.
That Car is amazingly Beautiful... Such a good taste
Los Angeles will always welcome you, Matt xD
This particular FRS is really amazing. Even the stock ones are a blast to drive! rather have this one though lol
you looks so happy
Sweet looking ride.
6:05 - white s2000 in the rear view looking for a chase :)
Dude i love your review lol, its so funny how you giggle like i would in such situations with such awesome cars you drive!
Let's do another acceleration pull, shall we....OMFG!
You know it's a fun car when you giggle that much when driving it. That dude's day has been made. Ha ha
Awesome review man! I love that car. I would not mind the auto with the manual mode and down shift rev match. I could live with it.
We keep the woodsy backroads up here in NoCal
Can someone give me a parts list? Not the outside just the engine and suspension. Thanks
Yeah an internal aftermarket parts list be a great idea : )
i find rev match downshifts for auto as 100% necessary for any performance orientated car. I was furious that ford did not include this with their 2011+ Mustangs. I've unexpectedly hard engine braked on the highway so now I just leave it in D and the Bama tune is usually smart enough to get it going. I hear the new 2015s have rev match capability though.
imagin a brz with the sti engine ! PERFECT!!!
Why on earth would you spend all that money on upgrades on an automatic? it is inherently going to be slower and have more drivetrain loss
Why the fcuk not !!!! Some people don't like shifting
Slickpete83 For me? Value for money. Manual is cheaper than the automatic. Performance improvement per dollar invested is greater in a manual than automatic due to greater drivetrain loss in automatic... That's "why the fcuk not"
josef959
I think you're right Josef and then a true enthusiast would be glad to drive a manual car instead of the auto transm, take Audi's and Vw's as example they look faster with the Stronic and DSG but it's just a computererized mod they are electronized (dunno even if it's right) it's just a virtual fun...
Because Manuals are 10000x more fun. If I wanted to click to shift, I would play GT5 on my Playstation.
if you build an auto right it can counteract the loss of power you are talking about. shift kits and tunes can wake them up.
Amazing and thank you for the review
Nice car and nice review one of the better ones
poor wrxfan ):
i can tell you miss your brz alot, and even more after this ):
subaruwrxfan I know this video was a while back but do you know if this car had a Catback exhaust system or a complete header back system? Btw I'm a big fan keep up the good work and can wait for new mustang videos
Great review matt!!
That M7!!!
M7 T-Titan catback sounds fucking sexy as hell.
Jesus that is a good sounding car
I was thinking about buying a 2003 S2000. I was a little annoyed by how much the engine vibrated. It made you feel as if you were about to destroy the car. Also, my only other dream car is a lotus elise.
I want to track the car, as more important to me is starting karting as a hobby (I know, I wish I coulda started at 5 years old haha).
But, you can pick up an FR-S for $11,000. Safe to say $11,000 + $5,000 supercharger kit, offers a better car than an s2000?
You'll have more power, you'll get rid of the torque dip with a good tune, the handling will be much better than s2000. In a lot of ways its the better track car.
If you are able to do a review on the Nissan Sentra SE-R SPEC-V, that would be awesome!
I drive the auto FRS, test drove them both and went with the auto just because of traffic and I thought the paddle shifts were well done. You should try shifting with the shifter in the auto though, it's really fast. Combined with sports mode and stuff the car still remains very fun to drive. Manual better? Yeah probably because you can actually launch it properly without a transmission upgrade, outside of that they are pretty equal.
I might throw a supercharger/turbo into my car eventually. I'd say 250 to the wheels would be more perfect though for this car.
2014 Forester XT 205HP at the wheels 250HP at crank. Garrett Twin Scroll Turbo. Sleeper?
you should've taken the car to Angels Highway thats a pretty good road for LA
manual and paddles shifters is the same.I hate the clutch in traffic.
Cool looking car. The pull before the intro was perfect tho, nice supercharger whine followed by the sexy exhaust note. Didn't know these even came with an automatic until recently when I seen one on the road lol. But I feel like he spent so much money on that and it still seems slow.
Love the build now I want it lol
great. it almost sounds and winds up like a subaru ea82 from 1993...I bet it still can't purr to 9000 rpm. The brz will catch back up to the future some day. A straight crank might help.
Great review.. If you get a chance to find one. You should do a review on the lexus isf 2008-2014.. Thanks!
Very nice looking car. Awesome job on this video man. I would love to have one of these. Super charge is the way like it. Again great job.
Great car, cheap-ish, reliable, major amalgamated history between Toyota and Subaru. Look half decent to work on. Decent on insurance if you're record is clean. Gas mileage with that twin-screw wouldn't be much different if not better if you drove it with a light foot (yeah right).
86 review on 86 day. good job
Nice review Matt, I've been keeping my eye on that supercharger for the brz I'm planning on getting in 4 yrs. Still not sure what is better for a first car, Auto or Manual?
I have an automatic BRZ. So many haters on here.
I love my auto BRZ and have even tracked it. I would definitely get a manual for the track but driving in SF in a manual...too scary.
huh, ookay... You get 2 excited... lol!!! You can tell you enjoy your job...
hmmm, its called toyota 86 in aus, and u see them everywhere!
nice video
damn its like watching a little kid react to his chrismas present
How much torque does the supercharger add ? Awesome review !!!! , I test drove an automatic frs and literally the only thing I didn't like was the lack of power , but after watching this video I might rethink buying a frs again : ) , also how is the fuel economy with the supercharger assuming u drive it normally
I wish I had that car so bad!
where can i get those leather seats from? also what year is that frs? thanks!
That armrest looks like an Esky. So thicc
Happy 86 day!!
''You can never call yourself a real enthusiast when you judge. When you mix the immature and the mature, you get the car scene we have today. No matter what, every car is winning in their own ways. I can see that this car is a good package outside and under the hood. The automatic doesnt seem that out of place to me, even tho I prefer manuals.
I cant wait to go to octane in my gt86 got some new exhaust on her and she sounds beast
About to get a car this weekend. Probably used, a year or 2 old. Can't decide between a 370z, FRS, Focus ST or Gen Coupe 3.8. It will be my daily driver. I know most will say 370z, but the only thing that keeps me from being 100% with it is the fact that it only has 2 seats and a small trunk. I'm worried that it will be too impractical.
not a focus
