I respect car guys like Keith and Jay that appreciate all cars whether it's a hot rod, muscle car, Japanese, Euro, whatever… They just truly love automotive engineering. That's how my dad raised us… To appreciate all cars.
That quick-release splitter is genius.
What a humble dude, im glad he won
Hahaha Jay pulls out an underage joke.
That is the cleanest, most tastefully executed FRS/BRZ I've ever seen. I love the IMSA theme. Nice work.
Absolutely 100% agreed
And all for $15 grand?! Holy crap!
A lot of the work and parts for this car were donated. I did the livery (print and install) on this car. They paid for my trip to Keith but I donated my time and work for this project. I don’t regret it one bit though. This was amazing to work on.
Agreed 😊
Rumor has it this guy still hasn't laughed at Jays jokes 2 this day.
This would be dope if Jerry was driving
Dang Jay, you didn't even begin to laugh at the Bugatti bumper sticker joke..... I did though! 😜
Scott M. I figured he didn't hear it, cuz I thought it was pretty funny..
'Here's a sticker for your multimillion dollar piece of history'
Scott M. yeah went over his head
He's very old, and very rich.
Scott M. fyi where it's located in the video 9:10
Scott M. he was disappointed the tshirt wasn't denim.
What I love about Jay is the amazing variety in the cars he showcases. A true petrolhead loves anything with wheels.
This is a great build, I love the builder he's humble smart and honest.
You guys should date
@@AlwaysBeSmart674 bromance was in the air
This guy needs a high 5! Especially for tuning a boxer ;)
Really?
If you were listening, he didn't tune the engine. He just threw all the possible bolt-ons plus the supercharger from cosworth. Tuning boxer engines are amazingly hard.
Mejevoli Unless the Otto Cycle has somehow changed for the boxer configuration, tuning the engine is no more difficult than any other engine. Now tuning Subaru and Volkswagen engines in those tiny little engine bays, making piping fit, finding parts - THAT is amazingly hard. I would assume this engine would have similar challenges.
Mejevoli You are probably right, it could be an off the shelf map.
Ryan McIntyre Well, Subaru engines are like glass, once you start getting knock, they destroy themselves so fast, at least faster than most motors. Ironically, they last a super long time with a good tune. Haha yes, trying to fit a front mount intercooler on a WRX is a pain in the butt because the lack of room :S The FRS might have a bit more, I am not sure.
"She's kinda 18". Wait a minute Jay! You're not just going to breeze past that statement. Lmao someone has some explaining to do...
Oh you
Lol
Recklessly Arrogant HAHA, owned.
Recklessly Arrogant the anger is strong in this one
Hahaha!
"Doesn't sound like any Toyota I ever heard." LOL...yeah...because it's a Subaru.
Richard Rowe Naw man. Scion belongs to Toyota. It even says it on the car, pause it at 7:09 there's a sticker on the side.
LOL...yeah, I know. But it uses a Subaru boxer engine. The Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ are the same car.
Richard Rowe actually the engine is made by Yamaha, in partnership with Subaru.
Ohhh the confusion.
Trevor Kiers are all of Subaru's boxer engines made by Yamaha?
very talented young man, he's going places,
Humble, too.
From the thumbnail I thought this was Tuerck's Formula Drift FR-S
andymofoincross Me too
Thought the same thing when I saw it
They are quite different. Both rock the 80s style multicolor livery. That's about it.
RetroWarhead very different but at quick glance the livery looks similar
andymofoincross Lets just say Tuerck's livery isn't original.
"well she's almost 18" hahaha
Gross.
Did that not creep you out ...
that is one cool looking car.... as a guy who has a GT86 as my daily driver i'm thinking to do my car just like this (except i'll keep the a/c and the noise/heat cancelling installation)
yeah so how did that go lol
Love the classic Japanese mirrors on the fenders!
reminds me of the JDM "Fairlady". Early 70s 240Z
Love it
Sounds so good
KeepItJedi I agree for a 4-banger it really does sounds good.
KeepItJedi almost sounds like an old school race car
KeepItJedi BOXER SOUND MY FRIEND !!!
KeepItJedi It's pretty RUDE!
It's still a shitty car hahaha
That's a poster child of my generation right there! Appreciation for the flavor of good old days, but understanding the perks of modern technology. It's a real thing of beauty. Even the side mirrors, which I usually hate like that, look really good on this one. I simply have nothing to complain here.
For those who have played NFS Most wanted the first one, doesn't this guy remind you of razor but much much nicer
By far my favourite 86 build and it doesn't have any camber. Now that's saying something.
Camber is such a dumb trend
@@KevAlberta I second this
This guy seems very humble and very talented. It's just amazing listening to two guys talk cars and car parts and there's no "I'm not sure" or "I don't know".
So great to finally see this car running and driving! Keith outdid himself on this and a huge credit to him
This car is a great car even when it's stock.
James N If I got one, I would do nothing to it.
Except the tires.
"Shes almost 18, same thing" damn Jay lol
as both a lifelong IMSA fan and AE86 fan, this is perfect.
Thats a cool looking 86. I'm amazed how fast that came together.. Great video. I'm excited to get some videos of my BRZ up.
Speedhunters is the best modded car site on the web hands down.... so many cool builds featured and updated all the time... love it!!!
I am sat on a minibus in Hong Kong watching this and I look up and see the guy in front of me watching it too. What are the chances of that?! Your videos are spreading far and wide Jay!
I just now realized, I saw this very car at 2015 Chicago Auto Show! And I just saw it as another tuned Scion. Love those taillights! Very cool!
Two of my everyday car-guy-satisfaction sites making a video together... wish i could see speedhunters in motion more often. Awesome video!
Best Jay Leno's garage episode ever! That gt86 is breathtaking.
Absolutely loved it! Great job Keith and company!
Aren't the Subaru BRZ, Scion FRS, and Toyota gt86 the same exact thing?
KeepItJedi yes
Yup, there isnt scion in japan so its the ft-86. Subaru wanted a rear wheel drive since they havent had one in a decade so they partnered with toyota. It uses subarus boxer and the design is clearly more from toyota
KeepItJedi More or less, yes. The drivelines are identical across all three, but they have different trim levels and options. It's my understanding that the BRZ also has slightly softer, less tail-happy suspension.
Nexumbiker110 Actually Subaru didn't want a RWD so it took Toyota 6 months to persuade them to join them in building a sports car because Toyota wanted to use one of their boxer engines to get the CoG as low as possible.
Subaru may lose out on the partnership soon now that bmw is in the picture
Love the variety of cars on this channel... another great video...
“She’s almost 18” WOAH WAOH WAIT A MINUTE
The young man has grate out look for what he is doing. love the remake of the car. good luck on the next one. cant wait.
2 years on and this is still one of the best looking GT86 / FR-S / BRZ cars out there. About the fender mounted mirrors, Japanese cars produced for their own domestic market used them through the mid-80s as they completely eliminate the blind spot - a great feature when driving in tight urban traffic.
Best sounding Subaru boxer. Ever.
That guy has such a good eye man, I hope he keeps building for a long time across a wide range of models and type of cars.
The massive amount of epic just can't be explained with this car!
what a smart, focused kid. Looking to mod my own Scion within the next year. Love what he did with this.
I didn't know that a widebody IMSA-retro FRS/86/BRZ existed, or that I needed one in my life.
And then I watched this video. Damn you Jay Leno.
This fella is onto something, The way these cars are depreciating in value I can see them becoming the go to tuning car.
Very nice 86, love it!!! Cant wait to get my 86 supercharged next summer.
That young guy has a great future ahead of him. He's a really talented guy! Nice one Jay!
Great job on the build. He does great work--great eye.
this young man has serious talent..i loved his first car..goes to show he isn't a one hit wonder..will be seing a lot more of him for sure!
Perfect car for a motor swap. Awesome build and really very very detailed. Love the interior. I've been really looking for something to do to my EVO X and this seems to be the route to go. Imitation is truly to best form of flattery.
my friend rob was there when they filmed this, said jay is a really cool guy!
And there's no LS in it! Epic!
such a great build! really love the livery on this!
I remember the Kaiser this guy brought to Jay garage. It was unbelievable, especially for a young guys first build. This is another unbelievable build. Considering that the budget was 15k. 300 hp to the wheels in this light of a car, I bet it's quick. I love the tail.
I really liked this. Flocking? The whole interior in a box? It was when he offered to make a bumper sticker for one of Jays Bugatti cars, that was just hilarious. Hope those two get to hang out together. They have good chemistry. A Sunday evening treat.
Wow.. Looks absolutely stunning :o What a talented guy... 10/10 amazing job.
Keith did such an amazing job with this car! I love it!
Great build. And the guy really knows his stuff.
This is awesome! Great to see this guy did all of his own work at his house. David vs Goliath. Speed hunters vs Superstreet
I think my favorite part of this entire build is the sound of the engine. Just such a great sound!
Awesome as always. Amazing build for a $15 000 budget! Thanks Jay and team for sharing!
I hardly ever see any other Cosworth supercharger builds. I have one on mine, love it
This car looks like a fun car to drive. Nice work done it. Big up to the builder Keith
A episode I haven’t seen yet. I thought I saw them all . I also love the mirrors
I remember when u could get a vortech supercharger kit for around 3500. Now I feel old, thanks jay.
That car is sick, well done keith really impressed at all the effort.
l had a afx slot car that looked like that in the 70s,,
That sure is one beautiful build! Congratulations to him!😎👍
Love this build so much!!
Loookss soooo goood with or without the front splitter.
Very nice build and some great camera work guys.
Slick Build! I personally would have liked to have seen a turbo, but any power addon for these is a big bonus.
this is honestly a very good looking car. The mirror re-location is a fantastic little homage to classic japanese cars.
Realy wanne come to your garages one day from Holland, i think you have one of the best car collections in the word, i just visited the Lauwman musseum here in Holland but i like the way you use them :) keep it up!
The contests are held to discover talent, they have and this young man should be designing cars for somebody. I like the artist in him as well as the perfectionist when it comes down to the build, impressive sportscar. I wish him the very best.
Great build and done out of his shed!
Jay Leno great video!!! Loved ever second of it!!! Love all your videos!!! By the way!!
I cant ever say enough about jay leno! I will not have a complete life nor can i die until i go to california and have a tour of big dog garage!!! I will one day. Hopefully sooner than later! We all love you over here jay! And i will hopefully be able to get tickets to your stand up happening in huntsville alabama very soon! Jay definitly makes my life better!!!
The proportions on that thing are perfect.
Very cool oldschool approach to a tuner. I like it a lot.
Awesome build - car looks great and has the performance to match.
Great Video - Amazing editing - The FRS is a very sensible Car :)
Looks awesome and sounds great even with the muffler on. Well done on the build!
Awesome, thanks Jay.
That FR-S Aftermarket Exhaust system sounds Great!
I like the focused look. Seems like a great build.
I was going to go to sleep.... but then I saw Jay's new video had been released.... and so I didn't sleep for a while..
Man, you gotta love that Cosworth sound!!!
Just loved this episode! More tuned cars please :)
That actually sounds fantastic: A bit of boxer rumble down low that morphs into this high pitched ripping sound as you rev it out.
Also, was there a short shift package installed? The throws seemed really short and the shifts really quick.
loving the sound.
Super cool Scion. The fender flares really make it into a different car - much better looking. I want one. ;)
I absolutely love Jay. What a great guy.
Exhaust sound........really IS subjective. What one might say sounds like crud, another may love the sound. For me, the unique sound only a boxer-4 can make is pure harmony. I am a "toyota guy" and know this is a no-secret Subaru car. Still, I love them!
Best looking FR-S I've seen so far! Hands down.
Jay Leno driving a JDM tuner just made my day..
I love how the car is supercharged. It honestly sounds better than a turbo.
There's not really any supercharger whine either
+DriftTek Its a belt driven turbocharger.
+NameZ aint that a centrifugal supercharger?
+Spencer De_Alex yea.
Jay, see if the blinkers work.
Love the looks of this car, reminds me of the cars at Nuremberg Germany in the early 70s there were a lot of race cars that I sent many weekends watching them race on the long circuit.
Love the look of this car whether it in it's stock form or this, very cool.
You should have the Bisimoto Odyssey on the show.
