    Here's a Message to All My RUclips "HATERS" Out There Who Like To Spam My RUclips Videos with Negative Hateful Comments:
    "We're uploading great, fun, traditional, effective content that's purpose is to keep Traditional Chinese Martial Arts alive since Traditional Chinese Martial are currently dying! I have NEVER once advertised any of my videos! We have NEVER sponsored or put money toward any of our RUclips videos. All our views, subscribers, and followers have found us organically on their own and our analytics say we have a 20 "Like" to 1 "Dislike" ratio! That's pretty good in my opinion! That means for every 2,000 people who watch our videos and hit "LIKE" only about 100 hit "DISLIKE". :) We get over 50,000 video views a Day and add 300 New Subscribers everyday!
    We get TENS OF THOUSANDS of comments everyday on our videos and lessons here on RUclips! There is NO WAY I can read or respond to them all. I reserve about 1 hour each day to answer RUclips comments and I try to get to as many as I can! My wife Pam answers a couple hundred emails everyday from people who email us at www.JakeMace.com.
    If you want to post your own videos about me on your channel then DO IT! I LOVE IT! If they're positive then that's great! If they're negative then that's great too! Live your life! My best!"

      I would actually like that a lot, could you just go over some basic staff Kata in different techniques and talk about the differences in style? I want to get a broad overview and know the concepts behind different movements. Thanks for the offer! I appreciate the respect you have for the traditional forms, I haven't found any good resources that do an overview of the subtle differences between styles

  • @russetgold4195
    @russetgold4195 8 лет назад

    Hey Jake, been loving your videos. I see people getting hung up on details like terminology and remaining true to style, and I have a lot of respect for people who want others to learn the right way. Jake mentioned that this is adapted from different styles, and it's true that it might be more correct to refer to Chinese's martial arts forms as something different than Kata. But this information is helpful right now to beginners, I don't think Jake wishes to insult any style or it's practitioners. By condensing many styles into an appealing routine and not worrying about technical vocabulary, Jake is able to help people jump right into what matters, which I would say is definitely in "the spirit" of martial arts. In a similar sense, you can always use the most accurate words to express yourself, but if you're talking to a child it doesn't matter what words you use if they don't understand. If anybody in the future notices something like this and wants to inform the world, I encourage you! I just ask that you include the information that is lacking or flawed so that people can keep what they learn in context, rather than just disregard the information completely, and this goes for life, not just RUclips videos. Have a good day everyone!

    I practiced 棍 in my childhood and teen in a different style (probably not Shaolin). I used a heavier but more flexible one which feels really awesome once you are really familiar of how to swin them (舞棍). Maybe this lighter and more agile one is more practical in a close-quater combat, but to me it is a bit too stiff. You should try the other one if you love the power in those awesome swings like I do.
    Good vid friend, keep it going :)

    Guys, seriously. If you don't like the video, then simply move on to something else. The fact still remains that no matter what language you use, the weapon does not care! The laws of physics that govern the movements don't care. As long as what he is doing is effective, what difference does it make? I understand about tradition and such, but if you have learned something from this, then be grateful for the lesson. I don't have a Shifu at the moment, so this has been most useful for me.

    "Chinese" is NOT Chinese! Chinese is "Zhong Wen" or "Han Yu" or "Pu Tong Hua".
    "Kung Fu" is NOT Kung Fu it's "Gong Fu"! "Tai Chi" is NOT Tai Chi it's "Tai Ji"! Etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc! The most common and known word in English for Staff is "Bo" and for choreographed Martial Arts Sequence is "Kata". Therefore we will keep using these terms. I also use the term "Tao Lu" "Pang" "Gun" etc in all my videos!

    I enjoy Shaolin Center videos. I think that Jake teaches in a very relatable manner. By the way that he moves anyone can see that the dude has chops. Why people criticize and insult him is a mystery to me. But if all that people can say is that they're all eff'd up on his terminology!!?? Maybe they should have their Sensei, Sifu, Guru, Professor take them to a hospital and have the Stick, Staff, Bo, Gun removed from their Butt, Bum, Backside. Keep up the good work Jake and thanks for the videos.

      Then go away and don't learn. No one is forcing you to watch this or learn this. And I highly doubt that you have anything worth contributing except for just another opinion like any drop of uselessness in an entire ocean of it. Talkers are not doers...this is a fact that I have learned over many years of competitions, brawls, and true life scenarios that develops genuine fight wisdom. RUclips is filled with those of your type and breed. If you don't have anything good to say, then develop something that you feel is better and then present it to the world. Show us your magnificent brilliance. Show us how much BETTER you are than he is. My guess is that once you do, you'll experience a ton of people just like yourself who will let you know how USELESS you are. Enjoy your day.

      Michael Grubb It's great exercise. The guy is young and in great shape.But the Chinese Gung-fu is fake. Come back when you have some experience, ANY experience with real gung fu and you'll simply agree w/ me. It's okay to defend it, because it was MADE FOR YOU. Have fun, but don't let anyone take advantage of your obvious ignorance. IF you want to learn Shil Lum gun/stick, you are in the WRONG place. My Wife knew Sin The' PERSONALLY and I know all about this stuff. The Soard's so-called Shaolin Centers scam is a JOKE. Do not waste your time. Look for something with ANY degree of authenicity and it will be infinitely better to learn.... and don't be such a smartass when you have no idea what you're talking about.

      Let me enlighten you on why people bash him, He was a former student of Shaolin Do that ripped off grandmaster sin kwang the' and he butchers his forms enough he can not be sued for copy right infringement. Every thing he teaches is something he stole from someone else. He turned his back on the Grandmaster who taught him and then disgraced himself by teaching without permission. He is a fake and a theif bottom line. You would better of to learn from some one from soke hatsumi masaki's schools anyways, if you want know how to defend yourself.

      "Bo Staff" is a terminology for the common person to understand, since most normal people that watch his videos wouldn't recognize all the specific terminology, it's called simplifying. Also while "Bo" may directly translate to "staff" in Japanese it is also used as the name of a specific style of staff, that is a certain length/height. And using the word "kata" is for the same reason; to simplify: Most of the American audience recognize the word "kata" more than anything else, so rather than confuse them with new terminology he just uses something they already recognize. There's no reason to over complicate things, especially since the actual words and terms you use don't actually matter, only the techniques and lessons being taught do.
