      No, no it's not, it's a bo staff.
      This particular style originates in Japanese Jiu-jitsu.
      The movements of using silambam are completely different, also they are made in different ways.

My piano teacher always tells me to use my entire upper body and forearms instead of raw finger power to "deliver the punch" in my performance. Щас по прежнему оттачиваю навыки, совершенствую технику. Чувствую развитие. Обретая больше опыта увеличивается стремление, желание познавать и наращивать потенциал. Here's a Message to All My RUclips "HATERS" Out There Who Like To Spam My RUclips Videos with Negative Hateful Comments:
    "We're uploading great, fun, traditional, effective content that's purpose is to keep Traditional Chinese Martial Arts alive since Traditional Chinese Martial are currently dying! I have NEVER once advertised any of my videos! We have NEVER sponsored or put money toward any of our RUclips videos. All our views, subscribers, and followers have found us organically on their own and our analytics say we have a 20 "Like" to 1 "Dislike" ratio! That's pretty good in my opinion! That means for every 2,000 people who watch our videos and hit "LIKE" only about 100 hit "DISLIKE". :) We get over 50,000 video views a Day and add 300 New Subscribers everyday!
    We get TENS OF THOUSANDS of comments everyday on our videos and lessons here on RUclips! There is NO WAY I can read or respond to them all. I reserve about 1 hour each day to answer RUclips comments and I try to get to as many as I can! My wife Pam answers a couple hundred emails everyday from people who email us at www.JakeMace.com.

      Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace Do you have a video of striking with the staff, where you actually bend the staff to strike? I am new to your channel and havent watched all of your videos, but I think it would be very educational/beneficial to demonstrate why having a flexible staff would give you an edge vs a solid, rigid staff. Many years ago I found my respect for a flexible staff when i went to block an overhead strike, but the staff bent and hit me in the head anyways. Lesson learned.

    These are just butterfly twists and various figure eights. Not badly done I grant you but hardly "amazing". They are the first things I teach my students.

      +Preacher Muaddib i think that was his point.obviously the more advanced you get the faster and faster transitions come. i d rather have those 5 moves down to defend myself over a cell phone and a fist.

      It seems to me that the implication is that "amazing bo staff skills" come from mastering the basics.

    well i really like this because i see you can get winded in a good way and i do like that it builds strength in the fingers, wrist, forearms, biceps, deltoids and traps. this video alone, doing it 3 or 4 times a week for a year is really going to help me, thank you very much Jake

    I can't believe all the naysayers out there. This is a training video and these are real fight senerios. I can't believe the naysayers stupidity. They should learn something and hide there ignorance.

    • @earlgrey2130
      @earlgrey2130 8 лет назад

      +Gary E. Sims "Real fight scenarios" would mean that two people wearing protection gear are actually fighting against each other. What you see here is just a demonstration on how to spin a stick.

    • @GaryESims
      @GaryESims 8 лет назад

      +EarlGrey you are wrong, a fight senerio is a demonstration of moves utilizing the skills you have. Protective gear is not a requirement. see Kung Fu San Soo...Example.

      Gary E. Sims
      I disagree. But we can argue about terminology all day long as we seem to have different definitions. If someone tells me tht they are doing a "real fighting" scenario i wouldn't expect them to show me a few practice moves where no real fighting happens or at least is simulated.

      +Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace Hi, really good video. Although I just want to make a correction in terminology if you allow me to, Bo staff is japanese while Gun (staff in chinese) is the one for Kung Fu, I do not really know much of other kung fu styles than shaolin, which I train. Although the difference for the staff is that Shaolin Gun has extreme thicker and the other one thinner. I believe that the Bo is symmetric. If there is anything wrong, please tell me.
      Nevertheless, your videos are amazing! good job!

      Jake, I would personally like to thank you. I practice tang soo do, among other things. Your instructional video on crane kata was extremely helpful in that it allowed me to build better balance and become more generally comfortable with my footwork, this helping me to perform hyung seamlessly and more fluidic. I even watch your excercise instructionals to see if there's anything I can take away.

    I have heard rumors that there is a man who aspires to become the first martial arts action star and singer. He is of Spaniard and Mexican descent. His vision is to change entertainment and create opportunities for the Latin people and immigration. Many say he is very fast when he strikes whether it be a kick or a punch. He also loves Bruce Lee and aspires to advance Jeet Kune Do into his own fighting art. Many say he is a handsome guy full of energy and a big heart. He goes by the name of "Kenji Lucian".

    Love this. I Use a 122 cm padded bamboo stick with a tail. It is absolutely not martial arts and not trying to be although I have trained since age 5.
    It is very much a throwing and catching activity with some correlation to sword though not specifically Asian styles,
    You videos have been a great help in helping me link some of my moves.
    I am now starting to also practice Bo. I am rubbish at it but am enjoying the journey.
    I lost 2 stone in 10 months spinning my sticks. Love it!

    For training, rattan is great for dexterity and speed but not much else. I began with a bench pressing bar (very slowly to prevent breaking wrists or whacking myself) than to hard wood. For tournaments, sometimes sparring, and demos, I use rattan. Steel and hard wood build up arms strength (steel builds awareness of the weapon, too) while rattan adds speed to what can be done with the first two materials.

      I started out on waxwood and white oak, but today mainly use rattan. Uber durable and brings pain to an attacker without excessive injury, as staff is prized as a "gentle weapon." But it's also nice to have a few heavy hardwood staves-not just for the extra weight in training, but b/c hardwood is the best if you ever have to actually knock someone on the head!

    I have a friend who’s a master of the bo staff. He’s never had one handy when he needed to throw down, though. Kind of a useless skill unless you are near a stick of some sort at all times. His karate teacher realized the uselessness of this one day. The teacher was a Vietnam vet and walked with a cane. He spent some time developing his skills with a cane, instead of a full staff. His cane is always with him, so you’d be best to leave him alone since he’s trained himself to be extremely effective at using it in combat. Dudes kind of a genius.
