They still haven't replaced Ziegler who's been saying that the story of Snow White is "weird" and in general just been convincing people to not watch the movie.
I bet you can place the blame on $$. It probably would have cost more to replace her (seeing as she is playing the title character, not to mention what might have been in her contract), then it did to replace the dwarves. And if you replace both of them, then why even have live action in the first place. Either that, or Disney is just predicting that the movie is going to fail bad and are predicting that it will not have been worth the effort to replace her. In which case the dwarves are more about damage control than anything else.

@@whyjnot420 Well, they're doing re-shoots. They could always use a new actress for those re-shoots. CG characters isn't the only way to replace someone. In fact it's a pretty weird, out of left field method, if you ask me. I would have expected dwarves more along the lines of how they were done in LOTR (although I guess that's too much to ask from Disney, but still). I.E. normal sized humans scaled via camera tricks and body doubles to appear much shorter and stockier than the actors actually are.
The evil queen did nothing wrong.

100% At one point, trailers were decent and got the audience interested. Then they basically showed the only parts of the movie that were okay or interesting. Now, it's just blatant "Haahaa, fooled yooou!"

the original animated dwarves had distinctive designs, personalities. Grumpy was the voice of dissent, with a heart of Gold, dopey was developmentally delayed, but never treated as any differently as the rest. they were harsh, but treated him with care, and these designs are just nightmare fuel. they look terrible

Unfortunately for Disney, they've revealed that they hate me. They can't do anything to ever make me spend a penny again. And that extends to all of Hollywood. I'm done with it forever.
I'm in the same boat. I stopped watching movies and TV out of annoyance and a bit of protest, but by now I've moved on to other things.
Fun fact; the seven diverse bandits/hipsters in the test photos are almost visually identical to Asha's seven diverse friends from "Wish", who were directly based on the original seven dwarves.
Seriously, look up pictures of that friend group from "Wish" and compare them with those old test photos. I bet Disney _really_ thought they were being clever with that connection until all the blowback happened.

There are to principle reasons why Disney is struggling to make profitable movies.
1. They are overbudgeting... there is a theoretical maximum to how much money a movie can make, and if you spend more than that on it, revenue won't cover costs no matter how good the movie is.
2. expensive reshoots... this simply worsens the budgeting problem.
What needs to happen for Disney to start making profits again, is that they should deflate budgets, and put a lot more brakes on the start of shooting.... the problems with the screenplay need to be ironed out before the cameras start rolling.
That DEI is not free. Pointless positions still have to be paid.
@@Blunthammer I think the DEI stuff is partly why it's gotten so bad. The "need" to pay for DEI consulting contributes to budget expansion, and the likelihood that DEI consulting causes a need to do reshoots aggravates the problem.
Oh don't forget they've been using a scrapbooking method of filming where they film multiple different scenes and try to tie them together in post

They still have to sort out the fact that Snow White reportedly had the fairest (meaning lightest in colour) skin.
They could fix it with a light makeup, or recasting the character.... or recasting everyone else to make her the fairest despite being noticeably tan.

She's "Not Snow, Couldn't be White," made for modern audiences. If anything, they'll make everyone else (the bad guys, at least) lighter-skinned than her.
They couldn't let another woke movie be seen as failing BECAUSE of the woke factor. Now they can say "see it wasn't the DEI stuff that wrecked the movie, it still failed after we fixed that".

Sorry, her name is *literally* Snow *white* with the "white" in reference to the paleness of her skin ("fairness" in the slightly older version of English used for most version of the tale). Snow Brown is just unappealing.

Regular human with creepy plastic-looking CGI characters is a terrible idea. Totally uncanny valley. It would be better to make them hand-drawn animation a la Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Or just leave it to Daily Wire, since they will do the job correctly.
Tbh I don't think Daily Wire can make a good Snow White movie either. I hope I'm wrong though.
@@Knoloaify Making reactive content is always gonna come up short, the intention behind the movie is to spite this remake and thus its character will be polluted by that spite. If something isn't done for the earnest passion and love of the thing, without outside forces as a factor, the art will be insincere.

The problem with doing hand-drawn animation like in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is that it would be extremely expensive since it was done in 24-frames-per-second animation where every cell was drawn (I think it was done for both quality and to make it easier to sync up the animation with the live action).
In most animated features they reduce the number of frames based on how much action there is. IIRC correctly, the original "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" some scenes (such as characters talking without a lot of movement) might have had as few as 3-frames-per second.
Considering how much has transitioned to CGI-based animation (Disney has basically given up on 2D animation), it may no longer be possible for it to be done by Disney now. I think the only way it could be done quickly now is to farm it out to a Japanese Studio to do the animation work.
Actress also got a temper adjustment lets call that. Form nonsense she was spewing to the tone she is talking. What a wierd coincidence. Wierd wierd wierd.
They should've left it as it was and called it Monty Python' s Snow White.
The random extras are the "bandits", the cgi dwarves we saw a picture of during the strikes. They didn't turn around we knew both the bandits and dwarves are in the movie.

To be fair, has Peter Dinklage ever done this for other roles and for little people as a whole? Or only now specifically for the role where people would play a mythical being whose entire existence rests on being tiny, comedic creatures who are mostly defined and reduced to just their height? I don't find it bad for him to have done it.

The live action "Dwarves" they originally used looked and dressed like the type of people that would O.D. in the bathroom of a low-end, fast-food chain. Like a downtown-located Burger King with half the lights missing on the front sign. (oddly specific, I know)

The decision was made quite a while back.
Dusney teased the switch to CGI dwarfs like a year ago. It hapenned when the backlash was at it's peak + Daily Wire released its own Snow White trailer. It was exactly then that Disney scrambled and produced a teaser image eith CGI dwarves.
I remember very clearly.
They are the clearest example of Uncanny valley cgi character
It's not a "conservative" direction, it's NORMALITY. The queen is/was the hotter one in the animated version also. It's just that Rachel is insufferable.
No way that this would be only 300mil budget after TWO re-shoots. 500mil atleast.
Zero benefit of doubt given, let big D take another 250+mil hole in their balance, they deserve it.

Not a company, but a movie.
A movie that was from the very beginning actively insulting to the people who liked the original, and spat in their face.
The answer is no.
You can't do months of reshoots and completely change the nature of a movie, and get a good movie out of it.
But, if Disney's next movie is not actively insulting against our history and culture, then yeah, give it a shot.

I’m not sure if we are getting a bait and switch OR the extensive re-shoots resulted in the Girl-Boss narrative getting cut and replace with the more original narrative. Im leaning no toward bait and switch, I think they consolidated all the Easter eggs scenes into this trailer, even the whistle while you work song might not be in the actual movie.
It would be really funny if Disney spent all that cash and still no one saw it in theaters 😂

Were the dwarf actors shown in any movie trailer? I didn’t look in to any possible trailers before.
If they weren’t shown, *Disney* can say with “dignity” that the cgi characters were always their plan and those “group of fellas” are voice and mocap actors.

A thing there is a version of the tale where Snow White is saved by Seven Knight Aspirants. All looking for their grand moment to prove themselves. That could have worked.
The turn to CGI dwarves actually brings the remake closer to faithfulness to the original, where all the humans were rotoscoped and all the dwarves were more classical squash/stretch animations. This decision might have more to do with the original motive to remake all these remakes, renewing copywrites, than with any commentary from the webcam class.
Disney do not understand that they damaged their brand.
Since this movie hadn't been released and I haven't heard anything about it in a while I assumed Disney realized how badly they botched this project and shelved it. But I guess that would require... I dunno... common sense... self-awareness... business acumen.

Nothing has been replaced. There are two separate groups. Snow White's seven dwarves and Jonathan's seven bandits. And these two groups were there since the very beginning.
but they never showed the dwarves in the original shots,
this stinks of them trying to cover it up,
after all if the diversity disappears people will notice,
but less so if it takes a side step to different characters.
I can see them going. Once upon a time, there was a girl who lived in a forest with 7 dwarfs. Shows new trailer scene. Narrator, no no no. Not those dwarfs. These dwarfs. Shows the oddball ones.
They did a variation of that in the original "Series of Unfortunate Events" movie where it starts off with an opening containing the sweetest and most sappy characters. All the creatures are so incredibly cute, dancing and playing together. Then all of a sudden everything stops and Narrator lets us know that this is not the movie we will be seeing, then it switches to real movie.
They killed Star Wars, fkm.
