Daddy BlackRock is running out of money, and gamers were the largest holdout of this anti-culture cancer. Never forget BlackRock invested in every kind of media, and Larry Fink specifically got angry that games were costing him huge piles of cash and not "converting" more gamers to "their" side.
The customer is the most powerful being in existence. The customer is the only one that can fire the CEO of a company. The customer is the only one who decides whether a company lives or dies. The company needs us, but we do not need the company. It's time for companies to be reminded of that fact.

I completely agree with this statement "Why should wokeists make video games anymore". It seems entirely pointless and they should stop and never try it again.

Enjoy waiting till Armageddon. Woke is just the new face of the worst part of human nature, narcissism. "I am perfect, so I must make others accept my perfection."
It will end when the ESG money finally runs out. Until then there will always be developers who give into the temptation of easy investment money even at the risk of angering their customers.
For real dude, even the more "successful" games released during this period like baulders gate 3 are going to age very, very poorly because of the woke political nonsense, which funny story about that game, none of that was present in the alpha and beta builds of the game, they added that in last minute because the studio behind the game, wanted to use it to launch them into triple A status. So effectively, they sacrificed the future longevity and replayability of their own product, to commit suicide by becoming a triple A company.
Still need to purge the money men. The woke nonsense is only a part of the problem that have been plaguing AAA games. It won't stop the over moneytization and crap half finished releases of games.
Watching how most devs behave on social media these days I have exactly 0 fucks to give about them losing their jobs, in fact I am bouncing around like a gremlin and screeching with joy for each round of layoffs I hear about at this point. They will. -Attack customers who actually pay for what they make. -Attack other developers who speak out whatsoever. -Work with people who have lied so severely about others that it ended in people taking their own lives. -Celebrate vandalizing of work that is not theirs or that of the person vandalizing it. -Ignore customers that pay for what they make. -Listen to terminally online people who never have and never will actually pay for anything they make. -Launch harassment campaigns against people who don't fall in line. -Attempt to extort companies to get their way. They made their bed now they can lie in it and choke on the bile they spew.
Sounds like someone who has seen this from inside, first hand, up close, smelling the burning flesh, hearing the sizzle pop of charring fat rendering oil to flare up the flames. Watched it in another industry. Ugly.
Too many HR managers, PR managers and diversity consultants, with enormous CEO paychecks blow game budgets out of proportions and force for MTX in every game to justify the budget.
Turns out there's no sustainable income to be found in ruining what your customers love. Maybe _more_ verbal abuse will finally convince those pesky bigots to fork over their wallets. 🤡
Sustainable income is not why they do it. There are much darker reasons for it. They were kind of successful though. People never stopped buying games. Ironically, the industry is still booming compared to what it was before they went after their customers.
@@bmsuperstar1 Not the entire industry, at all. There is a handful of massively profitable IPs carrying the entire _triple A_ segment of the industry at this point. Combine that with the amount of money the major publishers must dump into developing a single title... The string of flops that did not bring in substantial returns over the past couple years are not the hallmarks of a "booming" industry of which you speak. One problem is the anti-consumer/anti-gamer ideologies at play. The other big problem is the fact that every major publisher, much less every developer, can *not* have a massive persistent live-service micro-transaction cash cow that generates massive wealth indefinitely. There is only room for a handful of such titles in the world. Because the gamers footing the bill, don't have effing infinite wealth, much less infinite time. There are only so many wales in the world, and they can only sink their time and enthusiasm into so many titles. So the more these publishers pursue this dream of consumers owning nothing and everything being live service, the deeper into the red most of them will end up. If we have to pay weekly to unlock our doors and roll down our windows, we aren't going to be able to afford to buy 10 billion AK skins which get deactivated in 10 months, in 500 different tittles, lol...
In the 80s and 90s games where made by people that loved games and played games. Now its college grads who want to teach us plebs how silly we are and wrong about everything. Soon those days will return as long as we are not stopped from buying them.
Even the early to mid 2000s games are made by people who loved the hobby. I'm going to put it this way, despite being dated visually and mechanically, a game like dragon age origins is going to outlive and be fondly remembered compared to more "modern hits" like baulders gate 3, a game in which that it could have attained similar status as DAO but is sacrificed on the alter of wokeness and LGBT representation. Mark my words, that game is going to be getting torn apart in a few years now that we are starting to get extensive backlash against the left in gaming

I would argue it didn't really become a majority leftist/woke/elitist/insert-term-here until around 2014-15. These people certainly had a foothold before then, but they hadn't obtained the kind of control they've had until now. Unfortunately, GamerGate basically handed the industry to these outsiders. I can only hope current events are starting to reverse that. I should also note that it has nothing to do with these people being college grads, it has to do with what they graduated in. If they had gotten degrees in Computer Science, Graphic Design, History, or any number of other industry-related fields, this wouldn't be a problem. It's that they got their degrees in Women's Studies, Psychology, and Communications, with no real interactions with people with genuine intelligence, regardless of education.

They had challenges, certain situations you had to successfully master. You could earn "Battle pass" points with it. 1 Patch 1 read: "As very few people engage with our challenges, we increased the Rewards for those and we hope players engage with it more and enjoy them" Why? Why force people to engage with something in your game they already dont like? Why spend budget on a Part of your game players dont like? Why not spend that budget on Bug Fixes? More Content for the Parts of the game People already like? This told me that Devs now rather want to force people to do what they want instead of giving the customers what they want.
A very similar issue is happening in Black Desert Online, where they made a massive change to their PvP Node War system, changes that made the system far inferior to the old system. The only reason its not 100% and only 99% bad? Rewards. The rewards are great, but all of the gameplay around those rewards is completly lacking. Its destroyed the PvP community, its destroyed most peoples will to play, its destroyed long-standing guilds that have been around since the beginning.
Was that a major issue for players in taking up those challenges? I get the point though. If it's fun and interesting people will do it regardless, usually, but there does need to be a proper payoff if it's that much of a challenge to complete it.

*"people" a quick glance at interviews with these sorts of developers, or what they've said on social media about their customers - tends to alleviate any misplaced sympathy I find.
Unions prevent the firing of ineffective and outright piss-poor employees. To fire an employee who outright refuses to do their job requires the union to agree with the decision, and since the union wants to keep receiving dues from that employee, they will never agree.
Also, as someone who once had to rely on an union, I both lost a promotion AND eventually the job. I also wasn't the only one - an entire GROUP of people relied on their union, and their union screwed them over (this is in an "union-friendly" state regulated environment, mind you). They're useless.
In the late 2000's I was at a hotel during a motorcycle ride somewhere in Nevada and the AFL-CIO Union president Trumka just happened to be there and just happened to strike up a conversation with me in the parking lot. He had no clue I actually knew who he was, thanks to Glen Beck who he had recently threatened since Beck had started exposing Soros. I asked him a simple question. If everyone involved in making a loaf of bread, from the farmer who grew the grain to the guy airing up the tires on the bread truck, was in a union how much would a loaf of bread cost? Oh the look that dude gave me would have crushed a lesser man but I just looked him in the eyes with a knowing grin and waited for a response that never came.😂 You keep being you Arch our Charon gatekeeper! Sorry Arch but your wrong, they DO understand that if the company goes under their job goes with it. I have a friend who said he knows that and that he would rather his union destroy the company and he lose his job then take even 1 penny of a pay cut. Or allow them to lay off a single employee. They understand Arch, they are just to selfish and EVIL to care. Yes, i called my friend evil, and he is, about this ONE thing. people can be good or evil in many ways. 5:52 I've been saying this for a long time. The money people are often the source of pretty terrible mandates for creatives, But they've always been like this, they havent changed, and they have been there since the 90s. What has changed is the developers on the ground, significantly so.
The biggest thing that changed was Blackrock handing out E.S.G. score money like it's candy to the corporate execs, they never would have been incentivized to hire these D.E.I. employees if not for that.
Star Wars Outlaws / Disney and Ubisoft flying "content creators," from all over the world, to Disneyland in California, all expenses paid (tens of thousands of $ per person, with current flight, transportation, and hotel costs) is fucking *insane* . It's a level of wastefulness and bloat that is staggering, STAGGERING.
You would be amazed at the amount of corporate waste there is. When I worked at home depot, we destroyed a custom made door that was worth thousands, simply because the hinges were put on the wrong side of the door.
I first noticed the uglification of female characters in games and the general trend downwards in regards to quality around the mid 2010s. Back then, I had no idea why it was happening as I wasn't really monitoring the industry as a whole. But it was obviously apparent something had happened. And when I finally started looking into the "why" around 2019-20, a million piece puzzle suddenly fell into a beautiful place. Just saying that the shift was noticeable even to a complete layman when it came to the happenings in the gaming industry. Here's hoping we can return to that golden time of late 90s and 2000s. Been in apathy mode towards anything mainstream for nearly a decade, what's a couple more years.
Hospitals are a terrible example because of the systemic mismanagement that causes talented individuals in primary, secondary, and even tertiary roles to experience burnout and fail to meet patient(customer) needs. Oh wait...that's a perfect example. Meddle management bad.
If this gets the grifters and tourists out of this industry then I am all for it. If they had actual passion for making games they would stick through it no matter how bad it got. But the fact that they are willing to cut and run now shows them for the frauds that they really are.
Bloat is one issue. Look at the credits on an SNES game and credits now. Used to have one or two translators, now you have 5 for every language. Large marketing, HR and other business workers. There are other issues is that games take 3 to 5 years now as more people refuse to play any game if it does not look better then anything from last year. When you try to please everyone you fail to please anyone
I think developers think gamers demand better graphics every time, but is that really true? Seems like indie games that harken back to various graphical eras of video game history are doing well. And remasters of old games (which are better looking than the original, but still far from cutting edge) as well. Most of the new games look like shiny turds to me. I'd be happy to play a new game with PS3 level graphics, or even SNES level graphics, if it could compete with the best titles of that era on quality.
during the 2000's & early 2010s maybe but i dont see that much any more. i more see demands for bug fixes or better writing, better polish or just overall quality. we dont need to see the facial hair of the female protagonist. Is it impressive? sure. will most people ever care about that feature, i highly doubt it. Developers forget that you can do more with less. Or by taking a strange or different style can make it successful. My all time favourite game, Homeworld does it perfectly (not the most recent release, they fucked up so bad its painful). Literally polygonal spaceships, but combined with good music, voice work and direction, created the moment i fell i love with gaming and the medium as a whole.
Comparing the scope of a SNES game to a modern game and calling it bloat is a bit disingenuous. Sure if AAA went back to making SNES games they would not need 5 translators for every language even these days.
I disagree with this. Graphical fidelity plateaued around 5 years ago, and there won't be another major shift in that regard until 4k becomes the standard. People by and large don't care about graphics; the thing we've been complaining about the last few years is that the games that have been cooking for 3-5+ years keep coming out well undercooked in broken, buggy messes, when they should at the very least be playable for the majority of people on release. All we want is something that works on release, is more or less complete, and doesn't insult our intelligence at every turn.
Another great example is Bethesda. Fallout 3, Oblvion, skyrim fallout 4 80 to 200 people. 2 to 4 years a game Star field 9 years and 500 people. Even if you think star field wasn't crap can you actually claim it so much better than past titles that it warrants that much more reaorces particularly when it sold basically the same as skyrim and 4?

"You can enjoy movies and games that didn't sell well" That's true. There's plethora of both that didn't sell well, but were great: System Shock 2, Prey (2006), Prey (2017), Spec Ops: The Line, Clive Barker's Undying, Ōkami, Beyond Good and Evil, Grim Fandango... However, games that didn't sell well when released have a tendency to be delisted from various distribution platforms.
Some games sell bad/are ignored because it didn't get traction or had a lot of competition at release etc. Games that are made crap, we call shovelware and will never be classics!
The worst part is, you CAN make a woke leaning game without it being a shitshow. Subnautica has a lot of lefty leaning ideas in it. It is anti gun anti capitalist, etc. But those things feel part of the game world and natural, not like something obviously crowbarred into the narrative. Its still an amazing game in my opinion, but then... You get Below Zero... Perhaps riding high off of their success, they took some time to purge the 'wrongthink' in their studio, then went ahead and made a big steaming pile of disappointment. A story full of girlbosses, a game of missing features and half implimented mechanics, and an all around disappointing showing. One of these two was obviously made with the priority of making a good game first... and the other was not.

The question about why work on gaming industry or some other like banks or pharmaceuticals (somewhere around 10 to 12 minutes in the video) reminded me of a How Money Works video about boring jobs. The argument there was that in "exciting" industries and companies like gaming, fashion and sports teams I think, conditions tend to be worse because people are excited to get into those industries and there are plenty of excited people wanting to come in so you can treat workers worse. Also if owners / leaders think they are changing the world / doing something special beyond earning money they may have harder expectations and the attitude you shouldn't just do it for the money. In boring company in a boring industry however the conditions and pay would be better because young people are not dreaming about being there and leaders might be more grounded. If you ask programmers if they would rather develop exciting fun games or bugfix banking software, the gaming company is likely to have a longer line of applicants.
Yes, supply and demand is a simple fact of life. Too many workers means lower wages. Too little value from the workers means lower wages. If you want to make money you need to provide a lot of value in a job that has a low supply of workers.

The thing is that unlike movies or books, games are an interactive media that is all about being the best (beating high scores, facing harder challenges, working together if its a co-op game) and that goes against what they preach in other media (give up, you are good as you are) because games is all about getting better than you started as. It reflects even if in a virtual setting the human innate desire of growing with challenges. That entire desire goes head first against the average "for modern audiences" narrative. That is what they don't understand and that is why "movie" games that only journalists actually like will never be as big as even the most average NBA 2K title. Becausr they threw away anything that is actually GAMING to replace with nothing more than a barely interactive movie and a really bad movie.
I recently bought the remastered Star Wars:Bounty Hunter and it is such a vast contrast from modern games it's almost depressing. This game came out in 2002 and I'm having more fun than I've had in a long time. You may say it's nostalgia but I only borrowed this game from a friend when I was a kid and played it for a week so I barely remember it.
They tried to use our entertainment for a political soapbox and it backfired on them spectacularly. I'm glad they are dissallutioned and quitting game development.
Love how its "games journalists" that are trying to make this argument when they are neither Gamers or Journalists! LMAO. This is why the industry fails. The activists in the media run defense for the activists in the games industry and the cyclical circle jerk leads the industry towards a downward spiral of mediocrity and banal "gaming entertainment" experiences. No skin off my back if the industry crashes and burns. I have a gaming backlog a mile long and could probably play a new experience among them once a month, every month for the rest of my life and never need to purchase a single new title from the "modern era" that currently is the gaming landscape. These people despise the hobby and the people who helped make it what it is (aka the paying customer, aka you and me). It is not at all unfair of you to hate them back! FAFO activists!
What reason is there to make games if i can't jam it full with my propaganda?

This told me that Devs now rather want to force people to do what they want instead of giving the customers what they want.

Or allow them to lay off a single employee. They understand Arch, they are just to selfish and EVIL to care.

These people keep showing sign after sign after sign they not only hate games, but hate gamers.
Show me where to they even remotely SLIGHTLY like or enjoy games?
They've always hated us gamers. They hate everyone who disagrees with them and refuses to come over to their side.
5:52 I've been saying this for a long time. The money people are often the source of pretty terrible mandates for creatives, But they've always been like this, they havent changed, and they have been there since the 90s. What has changed is the developers on the ground, significantly so.
The biggest thing that changed was Blackrock handing out E.S.G. score money like it's candy to the corporate execs, they never would have been incentivized to hire these D.E.I. employees if not for that.
the world would such a nice place if the woke did just stop making games, in-fact stopped making any damned thing
What a wonderful world that would be.

Someone has to be positive about their slop they try to feed gamers, because sure as fuck it's not the gamers
What we are seeing Is the final years of a company that didn't know how to climb up from the hole it dug for itself
You would be amazed at the amount of corporate waste there is. When I worked at home depot, we destroyed a custom made door that was worth thousands, simply because the hinges were put on the wrong side of the door.
Breathe it in lads.
Bring back the era of Interplay. "BY GAMERS FOR GAMERS"
If this gets the grifters and tourists out of this industry then I am all for it. If they had actual passion for making games they would stick through it no matter how bad it got. But the fact that they are willing to cut and run now shows them for the frauds that they really are.
Nature is healing.
2 to 4 years a game
Star field 9 years and 500 people.
Even if you think star field wasn't crap can you actually claim it so much better than past titles that it warrants that much more reaorces particularly when it sold basically the same as skyrim and 4?
"Why make games any more?"
Entertainment? A radical crazy idea, I know.
schadenfreude truly is a wonderful thing.
They try to drag us down into their NPC despair. Let them slide into their own abyss.
You know what i agree. With the way games have been going downhill they should quit making games.

I didn't need that. I enjoyed Ghostbusters 2, I enjoyed Sonic 2006 (outside of using Knuckles and Rouge), I enjoyed Balan Wonderworld, I enjoyed Saints Row IV, I enjoyed Terminator 3, I enjoyed Doom (the movie), I enjoyed Rush Hour 3.
I enjoy many crappy movies and video games. What you won't hear from me is trying to convince someone the bad movies and games I like for other to think they're good. I know they're crap and I still enjoy them.
Oh and the Super Mario Bros. movie... the original one.
The problem with these people are they enjoy crappy movies and then get mad when others don't like them too. No. You can enjoy them and just accept you're in the minority with them. There's no shame in liking Rings of Power... just don't wear it as a badge.
They're butthurt because no one is buying their garbage.
Capitalism is a BEAUTIFUL thing.
Good. let the woke despair and give up. make way for the real game devs, and the real fans.
"You can enjoy movies and games that didn't sell well"
That's true.
We need to remind these activists why we gamers love salt so much that we are considered connoisseurs of the finest salts. But we need to harvest more of their and AAA gaming salt before things go back to normal.
11:36 did they try to pull that "but who will pick to cotton?" one there?
Trust me. There are still people who are passionate about their off-time activities. Who knows. We might be witnessing another gaming renaissance immediately after the fall there.

They openly hated you and the games they work on, changed it to not cater to you anymore, told you "this game isnt for you" And then wondered why the playerbase became apathetic or outright left the space. No shit you aren't making any money.
That is a good question these people hate gamers so much why do they bother making video games for them.
They're trying to change the culture.
It's not just the _woke_ stuff. It's all the bloat and band-wagoning on bad business practices.
All of that goes together. One bad decision leads to another bad decision leads to another bad decision...
"Why even do x anymore?" is the kind of question that shows clear as day that not only were they never into the subject with a passion, they also come off as the whiny losers theyve always been.
if the point of making games is always online games as service looter shooters that remove content like destiny 2, id rather no new games are made.
Also we know for a fact they are told to make female characters ugly from that guy who worked on dc comics and drew a woman attractive and said to his son "watch they gonna call me back telling me to make her ugly" and thats what happened.
Essentially you need funding mechanisms that don't require growth to fund development. For example kickstarter, however that requires them to appeal to an audience, they can't culturally capture something that must appeal to a consumer to exist
The Pfizer example has less reason to keep them on as those are the tasks ai is optimal to handle. "Can you draw a happy family with our logo and product"
that and kickstarter has some license & banking fraud issues of it's own... however iron those out and it would definitely be a great method.
@@Coconut-219 you start to contextualise movements in history like guilds. Now we have all these people vying for funds, who should you support. Essentially the woke are treating corporations as though they are patronage by the wealthy rather than an ongoing concern that needs profit.

["Imagine the will to keep a man bound for a year. To sever his hand and to use it... to plant fingerprints. To insert tubes into his genitals."]
This culture has reached the last stages of moral decomposition; their heroes are the psychotic serial killers of the previous generations!
The feeling you're left with in the end - if you're cautious/sensitive of such things - is of being soiled, degraded, like the women in the end, being served the abominable fruit, a satanic reference the writer couldn't pass up.
The games industry is like the steak house switched to a all vegan menu and the chefs are angry at the customers that do not show up.
That urinalist can't get unworked asap.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I can’t way until the day that video games are free of this nonsense woke stuff… so we can get back to live services, cut content, broken releases, “micro transactions” and battle passes in single player games.
Not sure if you have short term memory loss or rose tinted glasses but gaming was going downhill long before the woke crap and it will continue to do so even once it’s gone.
Why couldn’t you people have rallied against all of that stuff?
Gamers aren't very bright tbh. Gamers get the industry they deserve. At anytime, they could have stopped and said, "Hmm, maybe I shouldn't buy this incredibly low effort copy paste game. Maybe I shouldn't buy this horse armor. Maybe I shouldn't buy this true ending DLC." but we know how that all turned out.
Thank you for the motivation to expand my vintage game library.
These ‘modern audience’ tyrants are not worthy of OUR money.
It’s terrible to make games in AAA gaming industries. The more lower and niche ones will pick up the pace with more love in it
They tried to use our entertainment for a political soapbox and it backfired on them spectacularly.
The phrase you forgot I think is "what is held in common is held in contempt".
