Cavill defends fans and cannon for the projects he is a part of. This is a HUGE problem for showrunners who like to use established IP's to push their terrible writing under a well-known brand.
The Halo showrunners admitted (boasted, even) that they'd never even 'looked at' the games and didn't want to be 'hampered' by them. Compared to those guys, Cavil is the ideal one to be running the show. He's very knowledgable and passionate about the IP going back years.

WE'VE MADE IT AS LAME AND GAY AS POSSIBLE! Henry Cavill: Make it not lame and gay. Okay I guess we'll just cancel this because it's impossible to write.
If he walks and tells the fans the project is a sh!tshow, it'll be the kiss of death. Even if he just says "I'm no longer part of the project, and my NDA forbids me from discussing the matter further," it'll be nearly as damaging. Cinema and TV is now littered with the corpses of high-profile sci-fi and fantasy failures. The fandom is hyper-aware of the cultural war and the destruction of franchises. It would take incredible depths of denial and delusion to think the project could be anything but a flop at that point.
They have the money to hire the people who can. There are a group of people in the Amazon Chain of command who will interfere in the creative process regardless if they hired good writers. I've always said that I would rather the amazon show never happen than let it rot and corrupt Warhammer 40k with its evil as it did The Lord of the Rings. Looks like what I said is coming into being.
It's social engineering; people like Soros and Prince want to attack and destroy all the childish things holding back adult males because after a boy puts away his toys he usually picks up something productive and manly to replace the hobby. Those who accept the abuse of their franchise are often those who will accept abuse over any facet of their life, so win win for the elite's new imaginary society. On paper it sounds as good as communism, in practice it is as god awful as communism.
So GW strangles all the fan animation to "save their IP" and may be wholeselling it to Amazon in turns. Welp, they never seemed to be particularly smart ones, werent they?
The 40k universe is too masculine to be created in today's "modern" age. Caville is the only one that might be able to do this, but I doubt amazon or GW could.
Henry is the Emperor, making dark pacts with the chaos gods and nothing more. Amazon is a company that genuinely believes "If a song gets stuck in your head, then it obviously is a good song." but by the same logic, in Amazon's eyes the holocaust was a great thing for jews.
If Amazon made Ciaphas Cain into a show I guarantee that there would be employees that would be pushing to make Lt. Sulla into the main character instead of Cain and Jurgen and not the Colonel as she "does not get too much action".
It's important to remember that if Amazon does end up making a 40k show, much like the Fallout show before it, it will not be for the fans of the property. The Amazon show will be for otherwise uninterested people who they can bait in with the misplaced hype of less discerning fans and a novel aesthetic. There's no reason for Amazon to really adapt a preexisting story because it'll interfere with their ability to tell "THEIR" story. Even if they do ultimately adapt an existing story, the likelihood of it being twisted beyond recognition are not insignificant. PS: curious side note, but I wonder what they mean when they talk about getting the rights to Fantasy. Do they mean Fantasy proper, or do they mean AoS. Personally I think it's the latter, which is kind of telling about the wider perceptions surrounding AoS as a setting - ie zero brand recognition or awareness.
As an AOS only player I really hope AOS stays on the down low because we get awesome models and cool and interesting rules/ armies and if AOS blows up like 40K we will lose a lot of that. Look at how GW actually still has to try with AOS ,40K they don't have to no more and it shows in both the current edition and their newer model ranges.
@@ConfessionGang AoS sorta sits in a weird spot right now. Its sales are alright, and in terms of the actual game, it's currently a better version of 40k - not to mention the fact that both the best and worst designers seem to have shifted over to AoS. That being said, you'd be hard pressed to find people who care about the fluff - which is a consequence of its inception and poses a pretty big problem for the IP moving forward. GW is a weird company, in the sense that they are as much a creative writing company as they are a model company. The lore of their settings creates the justification for everything else they do. If GW mishandles or dismantles the lore of their settings they risk losing the emotional investment of their consumer base. While the looseness of AoS allows its designers to run wild, for better or worse, it comes at the cost of the connective tissue of the property.
The shocking part is that GW themselves are turning down the scripts for the show. They are not based in the slightest, but maybe they still can recognize complete slop that would fail
I hope for its cancellation! 40k’s lack of popularity has been a hidden blessing. Going mainstream would completely water down the lore, much like TLoTR, Halo and countless other franchises. The tourists with their normie understanding, would demand sanitized changes, making it more "inclusive" and "accessible." The grim atmosphere would pale, complex characters replaced by cookie-cutter heroes. 40k’s darkness and complexity, its soul, would be lost for instant gratification and bland narratives. So yes, I desperately hope it gets canceled. Mainstreaming would hollow out a once-great franchise.
Sorry but the halo show failing had nothing to do with being inclusive or accessible, it failed because it was not lore accurate as well as being poorly written cringe, the writing was so bad that it was more akin to straight to dvd garbage made by amateurs. You can have a female character if A it doesn’t clash with the lore and B if the character is written well and is interesting, same with every other possible human variation be it gay, black or whatever. The halo show did nothing right and was just basic brain rot garbage that mindless people would consume to pass time. One thing I would like to state is that if people can’t watch a show because it has a gay person or black person even if they are well written and don’t conflict with the lore then you are a baby and you need to grow up, not you directly just the people who think like that.

You do realise powerful girlbosses are very common in the lore, right? Euphrati keeler, amberly vale, spinoza, tona criid, etc. Warhammer 40k was woke and inclusive way before it was cool.
omg please, the idea of a tales from the crypt style 40k show with trayzen being the show runner showing off some of his amusing or horrifying moments in time he has collected. that could be a decently long running series if done right.
My pitch. 40k: only human Ep 1: Open with brief timeline of the unification to the Horus heresy. Then lay into the siege of Terra and the tale of the man who stood up to Horus. End with Big E being put on Throne. All other episodes being individual tales being the stories of HUMANS. No astartes+ Characters.
Only if the history exposition is told like a fable. Broad strokes, deliberately vague on details, unconcerned with nuance. Because that's what normal people know in 40K, the foundational mythology, a struggle of demi-gods packed with metaphors, too fantastical to seem real. Preserve the mystique as much as possible, because you should never meet your heroes.
Malcador, just a human. Olanius Pious, just a human. COMMISAR SEBASTIAN FUCKING YARRIK, only human. The story of Kreig, 100% human start to finish. The Ogryn? Still just human. The cult mechanicus? Insane humans. Assassinorum? Killed a primarch... still only human. 95% of 40k lore has nothing to do with astartes. GW constantly forgets that.
You gotta start with something simple that's not burdensome to animate. Space Marine 1 and Astartes are good examples. Best way to introduce the audience to the universe is to start at the fringes. Proposed series name: Rogue Trader Ep1: begin on a civilized world. Protagonist is the son of the planetary governor and receives a Warrant of Trade from a menial servant of the inquisition by the end of the episode Ep2: a young girl is a twin and when she is married off, her sister begins to get into trouble as she develops psychic abilities. Turns out the first sister was a blank/null. When the sisters of Silence arrive, they induct both into the order due to the fists refusal unless she can be with her sister Ep3: a cornfed farmboy is met by a large stranger at night and fight scene ensues, he is knocked out and when he comes to, he is facing the qualification trials of a space marine aspirant. Ep4: time jump. Rogue Trader has a retinue of an eversor assassin, an ork brainboy, a T'au from the farsight enclave, and a Catachan veteran. From this episode onward, develop the plot to encounter the other characters in a plausible way such as their need to all find and neutralize a dangerous unsanctioned psyker, and things go sideways and they use each other to succeed/escape by the end of the first season. Climax could be a space Marine Regiment and sisters of battle dropping on a world to suppress a demonic incursion or tyranid invasion and rescuing the main characters, elevating the complexity of the plot for the next season
I would dare anyone uninitiated in 40k to pick any 40k book and try to figure out what the feck is going on. This is the main problem as Amazon execs won't have a clue and need to get as many on board at the very start.
My girlfriend just finished "The Infinite and The Divine" and she made it through with an understanding. She asked a few questions and had to Google a few units, but she understood it. So I can't imagine someone getting paid could certainly do it.
Given Amazon's track record with original shows and adaptations, especially Fallout and Rangz of Po-WAH, I'd rather 40K be cancelled than roll the dice on it being good.
On an optimistic note for the Old (Reiks)Guard: GW is offering Warhammer Fantasy as their second major IP to bring to series and the big screen. They have also reported much better sales of Old World than they expected (despite rumored internal sabotage), and Warhammer Total War is still a success, despite the poor start of the third installment. Add to this the leaks about poor sales of the new edition of AOS starter set, the failure of its video games, and the clamor among fans to be allowed to use AOS miniatures in Old World that are upgrades of classic WFB units... what I see clearly in the Emperor's Tarot is that in the long term AOS will periodically take a backseat and OW will take its place. Mark my words. If AOS was as good a setting as its apologists and tourists say... why hasn't GW sold the rights to Amazon? On paper it would be a very attractive offer, because AOS is a multiverse very close to American fantasy, much more similar to modern D&D than any other GW setting. In addition, it is a much more open and "diverse" setting that would give creative freedom to Amazon to do whatever it wanted. Maybe the answer is that while it can be a fun game (I don't deny that), as a setting it is not as attractive as Fantasy, Heresy and 40k... And after almost a decade of life, the fact that it hasn't been around for long is not an excuse for it not to have good lore.
The weirdest thing about the rings of power show is...their girl boss main character galadriel is NOT strong...because she is 5000 years old and should be one of the most powerful beings in middle Earth. Tolkien wrote Galadriel as the embodiment of a pure and wise feminine ideal. Her husband was a literal hero among heroes and he was her backup. Amazon nerfed her to about 1% her true power...she is not a girl boss in rings of power.
Given the way the economy is going, and the way the tabletop gaming industry is going... Amazon might be swooping in to buy GW part and parcel in the next 5-10 years.
Gate Keep. Don't Star Wars 40K. The only way a TV series would work is if it was a horror/suspense/noir focused on an Imperial investigator trying to get to the bottom of a planetary conspiracy and potential heresy. Is it Chaos? Genesteeler? Who to trust?

The Halo showrunners admitted (boasted, even) that they'd never even 'looked at' the games and didn't want to be 'hampered' by them. Compared to those guys, Cavil is the ideal one to be running the show. He's very knowledgable and passionate about the IP going back years.
We could make it lame and gay.
Henry Cavill: No.
Well we're going to have to completely rewrite this then.
Here, it's even more lame and gay.
Henry Cavill: No.
WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM US HENRY!

When you're such a big nerd that you care more about making the show accurate than about getting the amazon ESG check.
Amazon couldn’t copy Tolkien’s homework and write fan fiction. Are we really surprised they can’t write Grimdark?
It's not that Amazon can't write Grimdark, but that they won't. And yeah, anything that Amazon writes would be watered down trash any way.
They have the money to hire the people who can. There are a group of people in the Amazon Chain of command who will interfere in the creative process regardless if they hired good writers. These people are woke/DEI/Sweet Baby Inc(or whatever name is popular these days) hires who need to prove that they are worth hiring so they fuck with everything else trying to justify the cost of Amazon hiring them, unintentionally losing them money in the process.
This is not a conspiracy or some malevolent planning/coordination by a higher power. No, this is a group of incompetent people hiring another group incompetent people(it's simple as that). They will keep burning money until their stakeholders have had enough. This will take years and years. Its only now people are take notice of it.
@@covenant_05 that is just it. This was never a question of finances. It is a question of hiring the write people. Band of Slanesh
Amazon refuses to fire the "Agitators" from the writing staff is my bet.
Dodged a bolter round, let it drift slowly away into the void.
Amazon is Fulgrim and Henry is Rylanor

All other episodes being individual tales being the stories of HUMANS. No astartes+ Characters.

95% of 40k lore has nothing to do with astartes. GW constantly forgets that.
You gotta start with something simple that's not burdensome to animate. Space Marine 1 and Astartes are good examples. Best way to introduce the audience to the universe is to start at the fringes.
Proposed series name: Rogue Trader
Ep1: begin on a civilized world. Protagonist is the son of the planetary governor and receives a Warrant of Trade from a menial servant of the inquisition by the end of the episode
Ep2: a young girl is a twin and when she is married off, her sister begins to get into trouble as she develops psychic abilities. Turns out the first sister was a blank/null. When the sisters of Silence arrive, they induct both into the order due to the fists refusal unless she can be with her sister
Ep3: a cornfed farmboy is met by a large stranger at night and fight scene ensues, he is knocked out and when he comes to, he is facing the qualification trials of a space marine aspirant.

On an optimistic note for the Old (Reiks)Guard:
GW is offering Warhammer Fantasy as their second major IP to bring to series and the big screen.
They could easily set up lore where it turns out the timeline fractured in two, and have the old world continue and have AOS.
Fuuuuuuuck
Thanks the Emperor, we dodged bullet here.
They are never doing a Warhammer Fantasy project. the word "Reik" is far too prevalent lol.

Even if they didn't make original content, it sure does take time to mutilate the source material to fit the Wamazon 40k.
Considering how quiet Caville has been I suspect he has already noped out and is quietly trying to distance himself from it.
THIS IS GOOD NEWS! Scrap it all!
The time is not right. Wait until AI is mature enough so they can make a $300M series in house for maybe $30M instead. And without forced DEI.
We all knew this would happen.
The memes we all saw immediately after the announcement originally was
Writer "so I had a thought about space marines."
Cavil: *places gun on the table* "...go on..."
And shit like that.
Love the fact AoS isn't even considered Amazon worthy.
AoS is kinda shite tbf.
As an AOS only player I hope it stays that way
@@coltonlong7562not anymore this taos gets better with each edition. plus we have more interesting models, plus GW still have to try with AOS unlike 40K
It takes true skill struggle to write an already established franchise with over 1000 different characters you can choose from, a vast history of thousands of years stories worth of material.
Imagine choking the golden goose before it can lay a golden egg. 🤦♂️
40k could easily be diverse too. Theres nothing stopping various races from representing various chapters.
Like it would be cool if Ultramarines were white, thousand sons were indian, salamanders black, and such.
It would fit DEI bullshit perfectly.
What GW is hoping is that Anazon straight up buys GW so they can all get fat paychecks and wash their hands of it.
writing for 40k is hard. there's absolutely zero lore and no novels to work with.... ... .... ....
Depending on when in December, they have a minimum of four months. We're in the Eighth Month already.
Couldn't they go for an Severina Raine series?
Lady commisar with agency, an mystery to uncover, fights with chaos and low entry treshold for newbies
How hard is it to write a War of Unification story. It's perfect for a palace intrigue story following a war lord who is trying to figure out if they want to peaceably join or fight the Emperor.
This is good news in my book. There is no way shape or form they can write 40K faithfully and at the same time check all the boxes of their corporate overlords, so nothing at all is much better than Rings of Power in space 😂
Of course they can not. Every faction is depraved beyond salvation and can not be painted in any good light. Not even an ork waaagh could bend reality THAT much.
They don’t want to make a Warhammer show; they want to make space apocalypse product.
