    This configuration makes sense for large thirsty SUVs, like Kodiaq, especially in slow traffic, no wonder Thomas looked a little intimidated :)) so do I, by the refinement and insulation. WEY should probably introduce the smaller sibling, macchiato, to EU, to rival other med-size PHEV (Tiguan, RAV4, or MG HS etc.). The progression made in China's car design and manufacturing is really very scary.

      @@Tomoyo0827 When you look at the human rights issues in China, and you look at how closely connected most companies in China are to what is one of the most controversial governments in the world, you have to wonder if the companies are tainted. You know that they are feeding the political machinations of the Chinese Government whether or not they want to because Chinese Law and tax structures simply require it, and may even require them to engage in surveillance behaviors with such products, whether or not they want to, because Chinese Law is strucutred in such a way so that the government can just demand any sort of data from Chinese Companies and they must hand it over. That alone would turn me away from any Chinese Automobile, because the human rights violations and spying concerns would turn me away completely. I want no part of either.

    Looks like a winner in terms of looks, feature content etc. Only brand snobbery might limit sales, but that will be a shame because a lot of Chinese cars have already proven to be reliable and durable. In my country we get many Chinese vehicles, including the Great Wall Motors Wingle pick up. Compared with the VW Amarok, yes it's little to no comparison in terms of refinement, but the GWM's last A LOT longer than the VWs. After about 4 years, the VWs have engine issues, especially the diesels, and the interiors look very tired with worn buttons and stretched/sometimes drooping upholstery.

    Having test driven Tesla model y, RAV4 PHEV, 3008 PHEV, Volvo XC60 PHEV, Q3 PHEV, Tiguan PHEV I think a PHEV is the perfect solution for a one family car. Electric during your daily city runs and during the weekends you can go everywhere without worrying about charging. I am leaning towards Volvo XC60 T8 PHEV but if that Chinese car was on sale today I would much more prefer to pay 50k instead of 65k the Volvo costs. Having more range on a PHEV and having the car to work predominantly on the electric motors and keeping the ice as a secondary more assistive role is the way to go. The Chinese sooner or later will dominate the car market.

      Sure, that Chinese car may be cheaper, but eventually it could lead to your own economy and your own income suffering. The labor used to produce that Chinese car is paid significantly less than the workers in your country, and they get less benefits and protections. Further, buying a car build in China by a Chinese company leads to a trade deficit. As Paul Krugman likes to say, "My spending is your income, and your spending is my income". When everyone is buying from China, and they're not buying any of our stuff, then "My spending is their income, and their spending is their income". People really need to consider the impacts of their purchases on the economy, based one where the production facilities and HQs are located.
      BTW, why buy a "green" car produced in China with their pretty terrible environmental policy and huge coal use? If your decision to buy a PEV has anything to do with the environment, then you're kind of sabotaging that goal.

    I think that there is a market for introducing competition in driving price reduction. I do however feel that established quality brands also rely on a critical psychological factor - in other words, people feel that they have a premium vehicle. That's not something that you can easily introduce as a newly recognised brand.

    I really like this car! It would be great if more PHEVs had this type of electric only range. 90 miles is huge! Although, there may be a point at which too much electric only range makes it pointless and you should get a full EV. If you rarely make long trips, the gas could get stale since it never gets used. I think 40-50 miles of range is ideal.

      I am chinese.This is a special behavior in the Chinese market, and its fundamental lies in increasing the competitiveness of vehicles. But this increases the cost of the vehicle, and it is the consumer who ultimately consumes these additional costs. I personally think that Volkswagen’s 1.4T+P2 motor is a golden combination (even in China, a battery of about 13kwh is far enough for PHEV models). However, even German OEM manufacturers are constantly following up on this kind of behavior in this competition. For example, the E350e in China provides consumers with a 25.4kwh battery, but the 2021 E CLASS PHEV in the European market is only 13.5kWh. Battery (in China, it is called E350eL, because it is an extended model)

    I wonder if automotive UI engineers can ever program dial controls with multi-touch in mind, where you're mimicking turning a knob with 2 or more fingers in a twisting motion. I suspect that would feel more natural and stable than sticking a finger out and swiping a small defined area for a line or arc with the arm and shoulder out on a long leverage - where your fingers can be more natural in a bent state and your weight can rest on multiple digits providing more stable head and upper body support.

      The extra weight will be offset by the reduction in battery size to a certain extent, then you'll be able to reduce range anxiety. Remember the battery in PHEV car can be used practically down to zero while you have to reserve normally at least 10 to 20 percent of battery in a full EV.

    • @seanlee3863
      @seanlee3863 2 года назад

      Because PHEV is the future and EV is the distant future. Every commuter with home or work charging has plenty with such electric range.
    Will it also be satisfactory for 1000 km drives compared to similar sized petrol unit? Then it's a win-win in terms of energy costs. The smaller battery vs an e-tron 55 or even Model Y would save some costs, but the petrol engine adds production cost and maintenance.

    • @updlate4756
      @updlate4756 2 года назад +1

      Average r/t commute in Germany is only 34 km. So long as the person has access to nightly charging, even a 10-15 kWh battery would be sufficient for getting to work and back on battery range alone. For a 1000 km drive, the difference between 34 km of range and 145 km of range is a petrol savings over 110 km. Not all that much if you only take 1000 km trips a few times a year. Otherwise, the heavier battery in the will reduce efficiency of every mile the car ever drives. So even those 34 km commutes will use more energy as a result of this larger battery weighing the vehicle down.

    Another great review. I recently purchased a 2021 c class cabriolet instead of waiting for the new models. All manufactures and especially Mercedes are drastically changing their philosophies. Trends are towards electric and over six figures for cabriolets. As an owner of BMW and Mercedes, I think they will most likely be my last. I'm liking almost everything I'm seeing coming out of Asia(more than Germany) and also some US companies like Tesla and Lucid. Germany seems to be trying to play catch up. Fancy flat screens and higher HP EVs are not selling points to me. If I had to purchase today, I would lean towards a highly reliable hybrid from Lexus or other Japanese company because I do a lot of touring and skiing.
