I'm very impressed with the honesty and transparency of the devs. Most game devs would avoid talking about the lack of splitscreen support entirely and let it become apparent when the game releases so that they can capitalize on pre-order sales.
The DBZ devs not only admitted that split screen won't be a major feature, they explained exactly WHY they chose not to do so and they actually put in the effort to make split screen work to a degree even though it wasn't convenient considering the reasons given.

you are right brotha , but i think we should also understand at this stage it is actually extremely difficult to implement it as they explained it will disturb some core elements however i do think they should have started developing this game having a split screen in mind but they didnt , but on the bright side we have other extremely great stuff on the way :)) so not too bad

Tbh it’s lazy. There’s no reason why they can’t have split screen in the other stages. What’s the difference? It’s not like it takes extra CPU to do it. Also them thinking on single player and multiplayer in mind was not smart anyways because there last games all had couch co-op. They knew they were going to have backlash and they wanted to test the waters.

The weather changing, destructible environments, and stage transformations would make split screen extremely intensive on any CPU. I’m thankful they even implemented it given the scope of the game.

The split screen and the custom battles should wide up the fun in playing Sparking Zero and become so interactive. This game feels like truy a masterpiece for anime fans, Dragon Ball fans and October cant come soon enough.

I cancelled my pre order since the most important game modes to everyone as a child were local multiplier and offline world tournament mode with our friends and family. Then story mode to unlock characters.
That was the best part about the game, and they removed it 🤔

Even if it's super limited I'm INCREDIBLY excited for the split screen. The experience of actually sitting next to someone can't be beat. I know the main focus isn't the multiplayer but that's the biggest reason I will be buying this game
The fact that they even implement it despite not being in their original plan and it being so difficult to do due to graphics and performance issues tells you that the devs really care about their players and listens to them to the best they can which is rare nowadays

For all those feeling confused about split screen, my understanding is the following:
Environment doesn't have to render twice. 3d games render the space and with two players there are two cameras . Double inputs are not a problem cause online multiplayer sends the input and you machine replicates them . Both local and online have double the inputs and both are easier than handling an AI algorithm. The only problem is draw distance. When an ai charges ki from far away the detail you see is limited cause the effect is far away, but when you have two cameras a lot more things are considered "close " and have to be rendered in greater detail. This is the only thing that strains the system
This is almost completely incorrect. You do basically have to render the scene twice for splitscreen. Each camera means you need to render the scene again.
Seems you can still do local battles in most stages, it'll just be like Xenoverse where P2 is just further away from the camera
Well it's always possible to eventually come up with other stages with locked in areas. Besides the hyperbolic time chamber, it should be fine to do the tenkaichi tournament stage and just take away heavy environmental destruction. Heck could likely do the same for Kami's lookout or Roshi's island

As a game developer I fail to understand why implementing a split-screen would be difficult especially when using powerful modern mainstream engines such as UE.
Even more so from such a big company for such important title. Heard some ppl mention Series S, others that it's cuz of the console companies.
If modding is flexible, then PC will absolutely be the definitive way to play split screen multiplayer.
I really hope in future updates they make more stages for the split screen, i grow up fighting vs my brother in Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and this is the reason why we were excited for the game.
Yeah I think they should add like a nerfed version of the world tournament stage without the destruction. Perhaps other tournament stages that are free of any destructible objects and constructs could be worked into a list of stages for that mode specifically.

I bet the developers did, and the execs said no then backpedaled after the outcry. That tends to be how this kind of thing plays out.
They were probably told to focus on the online mode. Game companies heads don’t understand that friends will buy the same game even if the play it on the same couch. It was probably a way to sell as many games as possible.
First off, I'm glad you added local multiplayer. Thank you for putting it in the game, even if it was an afterthought. And as annoying as it is, I can get past selecting characters one at a time.
But ONLY the hyperbolic time chamber? I understand hardware limitations, but I REALLY hope this isn't how it's gonna be for the rest of the game's lifespan.
I'm not saying drop everything and focus on improving it, but whenever there's time, please consider adding more stages to local multiplayer. I can wait.
I ain't even mad at the local MP being limited to one map tbh. As long as we got it and the devs have given very valid reasons for not including it on other maps.
Creating custom stories and being able to upload them so that others can enjoy them as well is HUGE for the community and the longevity of the game 🎉

Will probably work for PC but consoles will have no luck there. I also think it's because of consoles and having to render things for both split screens is the issue. Some pcs might even struggle with that.
@@chazo1367 literary this. It was obvious why they said that it would be possible only in the chamber. And more so when he said that you can only choose one character at a time, so they probably developed the game around online multiplayer only, then after all the people asking, they added that really quickly.
But this is not the PS2 era, where maybe a Platinum Edition had some small changes, they can always update the game to fix that, or do some optimizations so consoles can get split screen as well. Even when I used to play with my friends I loved fighting and destroying the building in that map. Destroying the mountains with your friends was really cool.

DUDE! Custom Battles sounds awesome! Never in my life have I needed something so much and never known until I received it.
Surely making it so two people can choose their characters at the same time during split screen mode can't be that hard to do if every other fighting game in existence has that option
But are all of them 3D fighters with fully destructible environments, man a lot of you guys are so ungrateful, y'all don't even understand what goes into split screen everything you see on screen has to be rendered twice and the framerate will most definitely take a hit and you'll be playing at 20 fps instead of 60.
The level customization they're teasing is INCREDIBLE. Besides a custom character this literally surpasses XenoVerse in user and feature accessibility. Amazing

The Split Screen Issue is gonna be fixed with mods on PC, console players are gonna be stuck with the hyperbolic time chamber.

To make it simple for you I would ask some simple trade off questions.
Which one is more important convivence to carry your gaming machine around, or performance?
If performance is more important get a desktop instead.
if your laptop budget does not go above 2,100 you're better off with a desktop. Most laptops under this price range will have significant limitations running modern games. You might get lucky with something good but I doubt it, but with a desktop for this same price can net you a high end PC and will run through most games like swiss cheese and probably in 4k.

I bet they could’ve gotten local split-screen to work perfectly on PS5/XSX without being restricted to just the Hyperbolic Chamber...but then people would complain about a 30fps lock.

@@blooockiBased on the video, it was more of a technical limitation because they wanted dynamic battles with a focus on the experience, but they at least made it possible even if it’s only one stage. It doesn’t seem like they didn’t want to include it, and they listened and did what they could without diminishing the quality of the game. But to be honest, a lot of people don’t seem to do local play anymore anyway, so it’s hardly a priority for most developers.
You get to make your own battles with cutscenes with custom battle. Pretty cool.
Split Screen in Hyperbolic Time Chamber is the first step already, keep up the good work Namco, I'm sure you can implement Split Screen in some other stage!

The Hyperbolic Time Chamber was probably for the best. A full blank void with a bit of blue purple and yellow spreaded across would be less laggy and taxing. They'd probably took optimisation to account as well
They could always add stages later with future updates though! Its possible since the systems already here!

The only thing I dislike is the barely existing split screen multiplayer.
They say they wanna take advantage of the power of latest gen consoles but also its difficult to implement split screen where 2 players can choose a character simultaneously
Watch the video again, he clearly stated why they made the decisions that they did and instead of nagging and crying be happy that the devs listened to the community in the first place, we don't get this kind of treatment very often
Because of the Series S it limits their capabilities if not for that we would probably have all stages in split screen. You can blame Xbox for making such an underpowered next gen console.
Split Screen was a Last Minute change made due to fan demand. They never wanted to implement it and I think what they have come up with is better than not having any local coop at all
That's just how development time works, especially before planning. If they kept it in mind from ground up it probably wouldn't have been an issue

But what was even more beautiful and amazing is that you listened to the community and despite the hassle you gave us some kind of version of local split screen. I feel like this is the only time in my over 20 years of play that I've seen devs actually change something crucial and go the extra mile just due to the outcry of the community. You've shown that your team is putting everything into making this VERY LONG AWAITED game worth the wait and making sure it lives up to the hype of its predecessors and brings fans just as much joy. I'll glady support every add-on and dlc content you guys drop. You deserve every cent. Ultimate edition might not even be enough anymore. I might have to spring for the colletor's edition to honor you guys effort and to of course honor our sensei Toriyama who would've loved seeing this game's completion. Thank You Again 🙏🏻❤️

splitscreen means that the game has to render the same thing twice. that includes all of the fancy particle effects as well as destructable enviroments.
you would basicly play a slideshow during local splitscreen on any more detailed map.
that is the price of modern graphic.
modders could probably allow you to select or simply load into other maps, but the game will very likely run at around 24 fps at that point or at least have huge stutter everytime something flashy happens.
it's just the nature of the beasts. the only way to get it to maybe work is to use dynamic resolution and heavly tank the games settings during local play...at which point people like you would also complain cause you never worked in the industry and don't get game dev.
Look, tbh, I'm glad they even added splitscreen at all after all the feedback. They still cooking with this game tbh.

Nah they fucked up majorly with the splitscreen. No way we live in the current year and split screen is the hardest thing for a fighting game to implement. We had it in the early 2000s. Major BS.
@@AreteG except with how much faster paced and spastic this one is compared to the older games, I can imagine it'd be difficult to keep track of on a smaller splitscreen anyways. Especially with the addition of particle effects from destructions and supers. It'd just be way harder to keep track off

I would happily accept a drop in the overall quality of the effects for the sake of local multiplayer in any map. I consider the gameplay to be more relevant than the graphics in this case, and it's not like anime games are extremely demanding in this regard.

@@TravissMcCoyI'm sure they will update it eventually for all stages. Keep in mind this was a short term change just to listen to fans. Initially they weren't going to do it. Given more time I'm sure they'll change it
i hope they give us at least some more simpler maps down the line and maybe decide to tank some of the settings to get a better performance for local play.
