This is exactly what German brands need to be confronted with. Mercedes actually needed to lower prices in China to stay competetive. The same will happen here in Europe. And that's good for us consumers.

I think one of the mistakes people make is to think "cheap" with Chinese products. China makes quality, premium products as well as inexpensive or "budget" ones. From what I'm reading about Chinese cars, the quality is there. The solidity is there. What isn't quite there? The road manners of the better German and Japanese cars. But if you want a quality, premium car, don't discount the Chinese manufacturers to build them as well. And the flooding from Chinese makers won't all be "cheap" car. One more thing. When I say Chinese I mean Chinese brands. I do not mean acquired European brands like Lotus, Volvo and Polestar. Those are European cars in terms of their heritage, build, design and driving dynamics whose finances go through a Chinese parent. That's a different product than a Chinese car.
It's a really nice car, it excelled on the euroncap crash tests too. They just need to cut down on the gloss black plastic on the center console IMHO. I'd rather see that central console wrapped in leather like the rest of the dashboard.
Regarding physical buttons and "they way the future functions" -> Just no, no it's not. Physical buttons are supposed to be physical buttons where it makes sense. Smartphones don't have them because when you watch videos or pictures or anything on it, you would lose screen size with physical buttons. So there touch makes sense. In a car, where you never watch anything full screen and the buttons are always needed, there is no excuse for touch buttons. It's just stupid and the opposite of luxury..period
With 40 kWh, why even look forward to going full electric? You have that comfort already. Very rarely will the ICE fire up, even more rarely will you be doing the walk of shame at the petrol station (if you fele that way). A hasted 1500 km road trip is no problem and you can venture off the beaten path, void of fast chargers. In reality, 99% of your communiting will be all-electric, 80% of your weekend trips. If you can charge at work, you're golden. 2 or 3 tanks a years for the average owner? And yes, to real people the freedom on having the ICE actually matters.
Excellent razor sharp analysis and none of the manufacturer bias some reviewers tend to fall foul of. Thanks. And this is coming from someone partial to BMWs!!
I really think Chinese cars entering EU market are a welcome competition. Maybe European manufacturers will now raise the abysmal quality of late models. Like Huawei did with smartphones.
Premium cars used to be bought on pedigree, build quality, prestige, comfort and performance. Evs have now opened the floodgates to new Chinese and other entrants with no history in the same manner as marketing new washing machines or other home electrical appliances.
Would be nice to compare to the Mazda CX-60. The CX-60 is to small for me even though I’m ”just” 192 cm. Hopefully Wey is bigger (and I get over my resistance to buy a fully chinese product).
I will buy this. Its perfect. I travel across Germany to the UK and back. Full electric is 100 percent absolutely no good to me in any way shape or form. In fact if the world goes full electric. Im pretty stuffed.

Exactly. On the tech side it might not be crap, but the design certainly is :) Reminds me of those splashy, stupid American, chrome-y designs. Hard pass:)
GWM have recently arrived in my country and they've completely overturned the market. They offer cars for nearly half the price of brands such as Volkswagen, while also having far superior quality and standard equipment.
Not a chance. Partly, you are buying X5/GLE for the batch. Moreover, the names are just ridiculous:) I never was fond of Lincoln designs, and I very much dislike this one as well. So much chrome all over the place, very Chinese looking. I'll happily pay 20k extra for European stuff.
I am from China, and I can tell you responsibly that this brand sells poorly in China, because its previous generation models have high fuel consumption and are very expensive.
@@autogefuehl I think it is a little bit expensive compared to the legacy brands. I think it would be a success if they sell it for 40.000 to 50.000 Euros. If someone wants to spend 56 to 60.000 euros he might as well get a smaller SUV let's say a GLC or GLB or an X3. My main issue with this particular car, although I like it, it has nothing to do with it's badge but it's maintenance, service and reliability. A plug-in hybrid system has a lot of parts that might malfunction.
Lincoln and Hyundai called and would like their design language back...... aside from the also-ran design, it appears well executed and a strong effort - lets see the crash results!

Concerned about the viability of WEY. Manufacturing in China is in chaos at the moment with the Zero Covid policy impacting all manner of supply chains. Chinese companies also have less than transparent financial reporting. A good direction for the moment, and good to see they aren't simply copying other brands designs. Perhaps in 3-5 years?
Hell no. On the a column you can see a face regocnition camera. Just let them spy on you, no problem. Cheap build, surveillance wherever you go, congrats to your Chinese car.

Never underestimate the Chinese. . They built their own space station in a year.
