The only Collector Booster boxes I’ve purchased were several boxes from the LOTR set … and all I got is a huge pile of pringled foils. After that debacle I swore to myself to never buy Collectors Boosters again.
My entire box of Commander Legends collectors has curled like a rainbow, a shit rainbow.
It’s because these boxes don’t have an alternate borderless rainbow surge textured etched anime showcase foil Soldevi Excavations in them!!
Yeah! And profile booster fun!
Soldevi amazing
The waifu economy is real!
Eh, still not interested, it's not serialized
Hahahah so true!
The only collector box I have bought was Aftermath for $72 US as a sealed novelty for a failed product. I expect Assassin's Creed to reach those levels eventually, then I might pick up some as a novelty.
We are in a new economy Mox... things HAVE changed ! 🤘🦁🤘
Boomstick!
Finally, a honest, sane and reasonable take on these in the Magicsphere. Well done 👏
That's crazy I was just looking at the Data on this and made a video about this also! Glad I'm not the only one looking at this!
Singles only for me as a (retro) foil collector. I'd gladly pay the premium $50 for a retro foil polluted delta than roll the dice on a pack or a box. Leave that to the whales looking for serialized hits and I'll catch the scraps
that applies for every card. Given what they demand for a box, buying singles is always cheaper. Even when you buy a Ixalan Mana Crypt. Boosters are pointless as of now
Thrones was the first widespread Collector booster pack. Before that we had the Ravnica Allegiance Collector booster. By the pack in English and by the box in Japanese.
WOOT great comment
These boxes and packs are scalped so hard by stores and sites… and when they flop, the packs are stuffed into mystery booster products. My LGS wants $500 for the Fallout collector booster box. 💀
Some of the artwork on the cards in these is desirable, but that’s why I just buy the singles.
It all depends on your cost basis. What are you paying to get in? I was comfortable picking up Dominaria United boxes between $100 and $110. I am fine with that entry point. I do not EVER buy collector boxes at release. Never. I miss the occasional win like Fallout. But, far more often, I can pick up CB's dirt cheap to the point where they are close to the price the booster boxes were at release. I also am able to skip the CB's that were just printed too much. If you are buying to hold long term, there is never any point (on average) of buying at the retail price at or before launch.
I guess cranking out new products in record speed leaves neither money nor time for people to look back and maybe order some older stuff just because you feel like it. It's always spoiler season or opening season, stupid stupid Hasbro fatiguing the shit out of us...
I cracked a March of the Machines Aftermath collector that I got for $80 USD last night. The card value was ~$180 from Delver Lens
Interesting as always! What's the data on boxes that do have serialized cards?
Great video! Thanks!
Anytime! thanks for watching
One thing you missed that no one seems to care about is unique full art cards that you can't get in any other pack. They also put the same cards in Commanders decks but a small version. Collectors are in paradise for your card albums. Cheap versions of the Full Arts for now.
Watch the value of the majority of the cards in full art and most do not hold value either.
The innistrad boxes feel like a scam lol
2021 mtg prices were a fever dream
As I said before overall it’s the singles pricing that rules the mtg land.
And just about EEEEVERY new set is a race to liquidate and recover value before singles pricing hits rock bottom.
There is no real collectibility with mtg and those who hold are the ones who inevitably get punished due to oversupply and under demand.
WoTC stuck in a catch 22. Tank card prices for the players. Get stuck with tons of overstock that tanks in value due to mass printing
Boomstick 💥 there taking some big hits on those products. Lol faster than you can say aaaahhh ! Lol 😆, if the value was there they would reprint it anyways. Soldevi !! 😀
Soldevi!!!!
I agree with you Mox Man. I’ve been trying to get 2x collector boxes of every set since the start… haven’t got one since Kamigawa. Got burned a lot. I’ll keep them as ‘investments’ and give them to my kids in 10 years. 😢
They gonna garage sale them away $10 a box $100 for everything
The Machine that bends the cards seems to have high maintenance cost, otherwise these prices doesnt make any sense...
You are so calling in sick tomorrow! ;)
I can see very few sealed products holding value like speculators want/pursue. Those would be VERY specific boxes from the normal sets and possibly some from IP-licensed product. Even just that number stamp on the bottom-left corner isn't going to drive pricing. WoTC has yet to cement a form of collectabiliy that will ensure value. They have the possibility to do so with a handful of product, yet seem reluctant to commit.
You can still get Fallen Empires. Let that sink in. It was vastly over-printed for its time and isn't nearly the size of current print runs. To top that off, Fallen Empires has Reserved List cards.
I do believe that a few sealed product will have value, but everything that can be reprinted will be reprinted. I feel draftable boxes will be more liquid, as they have an inherent lower price point and have built-in playability (yes you can "draft" Collector or Set packs, but it isn't optimal). They'll be sold for nostalgia reasons and the experience, not the "value" of the cards inside.
Shop Smart. Shop S-Mart!

2:25 What is the website ? Is it same condition with other country suxh as Amazon, Ebay etc ?
Collector boxes are the only box to crack commander cards out of decks now. They “can” be the place for neon ink, serialized, etc.
What were the charts on collector products like Brothers War, Kamigawa, etc where there was actual chase product? The only product shown that touches this was Dominaria United…
Oh and last I checked the overall economy is quite terrible, but I digress..
Was just wondering about Ravnica Allegiance Collectors being first?
Those old bad collectors are just not worth getting. SNC really only had triomes but those are about to rotate out so the market will get flooded. DMU i chased real, got a total of 4 lost legends and the highest value was $25. Even at $100 usd a collector box i was still not hitting the cost i paid in singles.
Alliances has the Soldevi Excavations. It does not need a "Collector Box" to be a cool set!
Yes, MOST of the time there is just not much value. With all of the reprints that Wizards has will further devalue the collectors boxes. Unless there is a HUGE dump / sale, I won't touch them. Again, Wizards wants it both ways where they overprice these boxes and the card value keeps going down. Another problem with these boxes is that with only 12 packs, you get quite a bit of duplicate cards. You get the same card runs in them. This should not be happening. Players still continue to pay high price for these boxes so Wizards will continue to make them. Thank you for the video Mox Man. Ramble Jamble.
Glad you enjoyed it Beck! BOOMSTICK
How do bundles perform over time?
I bought 6 streets of new capenna collectors at 160 Canadian and they were super awful. I wish it was 5 trilands a box the best box had 3, 3 boxes had 2 and 2 boxes had one
Newbie here. How come we didn’t talk about the recent successes of universe beyond? The prices of fallout and lotr have gone well. Is there a chance that wotc has learned they’ve been printing too many and that’s why the more recent ones have been pretty successful?
because he cherry picked examples of sets that no one liked or were overpriced at release. I'm pretty sure the draft/play boxes of these sets aren't gaining value either.
WotC told the players that not all products are for them and the players listen. When most of the cards sold are trash, people won't pay money for trash.
#Moxsters are not fooled by these so-called ‘Collector’ boxes (unless they contain Modern-playable cards, then maybe…??)
Every set that a collector box that comes out adds new opportunity costs to every other already printed ones. Feel like a rather consistent number of boxes are sold periodically and as more new and flashy stuff gets pumped out it gets harder to get excited about some random set that was new for 6 weeks 5 years ago.
I bought two collectors boxes and a few dozends of other booster boxes. Not for me. Im juat pulling the trash out of the market ...
The exception is LOTR, value increases daily, especially any of the one ring variants or serialized cards.
Strixhaven double master commander masters and all the new 1s are up stay the course.
Collector booster crimson vow are $110 USD and all the value is in the slug tokens in the draft boxes, lol
WOOT, still a fun box and at the right price people will buy...but we can wait for that right price
I watched a dude crack an MH3 collector box on prerelease day. Dude was acting like ot was pandemic era, "Oh yeah bro totally made my money back and more." I practically smacked him. Not only did he figure that based on preorder prices, but he was telling people like it was the smartest way to buy Magic cards. Im willing to bet the crash is the reason we havent seen him since it happened
This is why my goal as a LGS is to sell out within 4 weeks of a release. I almost never reorder mtg anymore.
Most stores tell me exactly that
There were a ton of shit sets where the collectors had no chance. If the set is *good* then it sticks… see CMR, MH2, STX etc al. LOTR, PIP, even OTJ with its BIG component held things up because the cards are good. If the cards and art are good in combination, you’ll see them raise and stay.
Boomstick 💥
I ordered from Mythic Lotus Gaming... still havent gotten mine
They are the $20 slots at the casino.
lol
❤❤❤
I buy a collector and a draft booster and use both to do a draft with friends
The only good thing about collector packs are the serialized cards because wizards can't print those to oblivion. Everything else isn't financially worth the gamble.
Most of these sets were from a time where Wizards had too much print run. Something like Fallout collector box will stay high for many years.
Glad i bought fallout for 350
The newer sets are doing way better with the exception of MKM. Most of those you showed were from the Covid era of massive overprinting
Bro mtg prints money and they know it. Any piece of mtg card board has a chance to be worth money given the right cards to be printed and time. Also collector packs and boxes are just great fun if your a collector and want alt arts borderless framebreak ripple etched excavation foil retro border full art serial numbered cards.🎉
First comment tribe! Boomstick!
imo i think collector boxes shouldn’t have any commons….at all…
Gonna leave them 30 years on the shelf so my children can sell them
Same lol
Thinking of investing but still skeptical
Throne of eldraine is the only one doing good
You are looking at it as a buy and hold. If you bought some of the sets and opened them and flipped the cards right away you can make money. NOT EVERY SET, but several sets I made my money back if I flipped the cards.
Boomstick!
WOOT
As a person who was buying (I say "was" because I stopped buying Magic products altogether for another reason) collector boxes as 95% of their sealed product and have opened hundreds of boxes of CE, I've come to this conclusion:
1) 90% of MTG normal sets' sealed product are not worth buying at all. It's not a CE vs. Set Booster, it's that the whole set isn't worth it. This includes the 3rd party licenses.
2) 95% of MTG best of sets' sealed product are worth going all in on, breaking for singles, if they are in the normal 12 pack per box configuration. Usually the 4 pack configuration, it usually winds up halving (or worse) the EV.
3) It's better to buy the same high performance product over and over again vs. buying boxes of every set. It's better to hoard up Tutors, fetch lands, etc. by opening those products because everyone wants those cards for trade. So I'd rather buy 40x Dominaria Remastered over and over than buying 1x box of Capenna or 1x box of Dr. Who, no matter how redundant it feels.
4) The normal buyer's philosophy of opening packs to find one particular card (or getting a good hit) and stopping is rather contradictory to getting good EV. If it's good, why stop? I'd rather open LOTR for the 50th box and hit my 20th One Ring or my 12th Orcish Bowmasters or my 50th Delighted Halfling. You can trade or sell those cards any time to get any other card out there.
5) For some reason, someone at WOTC keeps overprinting/overestimating demand super-juicy sets. Modern Horizons 2 Set Booster, Dominaria Remastered CE, LOTR I CE (because the 2nd LOTR set basically is a reprint of the first in terms of card selection), Commander Legends 2 CE, etc. Buy these heavily discounted sets, get the same staple cards over and over again, have 6 of each fetch land or 8 Sylvan Library's or 7 Ragavans or whatever.
So if you're smart and disciplined about which sets to buy, certain CEs are gems while most are trash. There's a lot of dirt but finding one gem CE product can be amazing.
Imagine buying non draftable boxes 😂
Mox n roll

Isn't the common the rare in this box? Sounds bad man
disaster... or ON SALE!?
Disaster for stores who have it sitting, but on sale for those with patience
Collector boxes are for gamblers.
You Magic players who sits on seal products are holding very heavy bags. Magic hardly get new players, so it doesn’t have a future, once all the present players go OOF, the game dies. It’s pretty much dead in my area.
Overprice cardstock, of ifly quality.
New Shiney card fomo, then the next Shiney card comes out....
Collector boxes have destroyed the mtg economy and most LGS inventory. They were a massive mistake and should be abolished
Just another bad advice from Rudy to invest in modern mtg. Not quite as bad as his Metazoo investment advice which he has deleted all videos and banned all his critics.
I'm just buying singles... WOTC needs hit in the pocket book and take the players seriously.
Buy singles.
Here is a financial lesson buy only the cards you want never buy sealed boxes waste of money hell don't support wizards of the cost
imagine wanting foils in 2024, they're always dogshit quality tbh...
Everyone who buys collector boxes has ruined MTG
boomstick overpriced mtg
