Brain dead is more or less a Brand/artist collective. They even bought an old historic theater that was about to close down. They also have an ongoing dickies partnership where they made a semi permanent pop up for their collab items, at dickies prices at that. They also sponsor and put on quite a few magic events including an upcoming con. Def recommend diving deeper if you’re on the fence. Just a general gist
Kyle Ng, the founder of Brain Dead, is a huge MTG fan. Their apparel line does a ton of licensed 90's properties, including MTG. The MTG products sell out CONSTANTLY. They have a pretty strong and devoted fan base. It's not for everyone but they've created and found a great and strong niche audience.
These are absolutely insane, and I will have to get my hands on them if I can. Maybe it's because I'm a graphic designer, but the art and typography are sick and very unique. I mean, can you think of a card that looks like these? Isn't that the point of Secret Lair drops after all?
They are certainly unique and it's awesome that you like them! I do want them to continue making lairs that push boundaries even if I don't like them personally.
Imho the art is great, its not the average "le grimey" style they put out in the previous few years but art made by clearly talented artists. Id much rather see these cards than the Hatsune Miku or Fortnite cards What would you consider a 5/5?
Happy you like the art! I gave the Da Vinci's Designs from AC a 5 as I'm a sucker for sketch style and the overall cohesion of the lair was great. Other lairs I'd probably give 5s to in recent memory would be "Through the Wormhole" and "Artist Series: Rovina Cai"
I actually love how these look(beside the tatto ones those are awful) i kinda have the feeling that these wont be mich worth over the normal printings tho
i think they're cool if you can find a deck that can carry the "goofy art". Im putting all em trashy art into my Oskar, Rubbish Reclaimer cedh deck. Your trash is my treasure. The borders and art style remind me of 90s MTV and old-school MTG. Sol Ring reminds me of "Claws of Gix" which used actual photo of the artist's sculpture.
That art is a 2...and I only say 2 because there is in fact a worse art SL release... the ones drawn by actually toddlers. -.- TF are they thinking man? about 90% of proxies are more valuable to me than this SL drop.
Guessing you’re Not a fan of irony in mtg That’s what this SL is projecting. Sarcasm and irony MTG is attempting to break its own visual rules. Art be like that
I'm not a huge fan of these lairs but I still gave "Creatures" a 3/5 for art. The others got lesser scores b/c of border inconsistency and real life depictions (trailers, billboards, etc).
I love the art in this drop. Love the old goofy frames.

Thanks for the extra info, pretty cool that they run mtg events.

I loveeee the art!

The art is so subjjective here. I totally love it since I like this design scene but get if some vomit from it.
Happy you love it man. I do appreciate them doing something for everyone.

Loved the breakdown...subbed
Thanks so much, appreciate it!
Honestly if I get the money I’ll be picking it up. I love the art style
Get that bread. Happy you like them!
I think this might take the cake as the ugliest SLD
It's certainly in the running
Not a fan of the 90s I assume
Wow so much staples for my "Ugly art tribal" deck
Whats the best card in that deck?
kudos for them for being bold but wow these look awful
That is about the only kudos I'll give them :D
i like the skull clamp for its cyberpunk look , other than that i want none of these
WTF.... like what was the thought possess for theses?
They've done collabs with Brain Dead before in the past so I imagine the connections are there
I actually love how these look(beside the tatto ones those are awful) i kinda have the feeling that these wont be mich worth over the normal printings tho
Probably not but crazier things have popped off :D

This is possibly the best thematic use case I've heard for this lair :D
A 1 for the lands is generous.
The scale only goes so far :D
Actually love how they look. It’s very in fashion with games like cruelty squad.
Happy you like it!
Yea, they resemble a lot some sci-fi stuff from the late '90 wich is interesting. But they could have done a better job in my opinion
69th thumbs up let’s gooooo 👍
heyooo

Haha I actually use the toddler mulldrifter
I just wanted to know what brain dead is
Hope this helped! (I'm still not quite sure haha)
Skip for me unless they bring something new it’s a nope.
Wanting some more mechanically unique lairs?
Hard disagree on the frames, big fan of these.
Awesome, I bet these are checking all the boxes for you then!
@@MTGMetrics For sure!
Easy pass for me
Same. I have copies already I prefer
Cant say I hate the art, but that border is in my opinion the worst they've come up with.
I think is the most egregious part 100%
What on earth…
Not alone in thinking this
I hate the art.
Certainly not for everyone
Yeah, no, hard pass on this one
Yeah just not for me either
Guessing you’re Not a fan of irony in mtg
That’s what this SL is projecting.
Sarcasm and irony
MTG is attempting to break its own visual rules.
Art be like that
Lmao it's not that deep brother. MTG is simply collabing with a brand that has a very unique art style and vision. Irony has nothing to do with it

Worst looking MTG cards Ive ever seen.
Not my cup of tea either
