PEN: The Uni-ball deluxe micron roller ball pen .5mm nib. These pens are extremely waterproof on my papers and can be painted over immediately. The roller ball is almost indestructible and claims to be archival.
PAPER: Size- 5"x7"
Arches 140lb Cold Press Paper for this Video.
My papers of choice include Arches 140lb Hot press and Cold press paper and Strathmore 500 series Sketchbooks. All are 100% cotton rag.
For beginners, I recommend starting with a high quality paper and experimenting with different types. As your style develops, you'll get a feel for which type is best. Waiting to switch to a better quality paper later will be much like learning to paint all over again.
MY PALETTE: All tube paints!
Winsor Newton- Yellow Ochre, Sepia, Burnt Sienna, Winsor Red, Davy's Gray, Ultramarine, Sap Green.
DaVinci - Phthalo Blue, Quinachridone Fuchsia, Cadmium Yellow Lemon, Cadmium Yellow Deep. *I plan to replace the Fuchsia with Winsor Newton Quinacridone Magenta when mine runs out.*
MIXING PALETTE:
The palette is the mixing tray from a "Koi" Watercolour travel set. The colours are set up so the ones I mix together most often are close together.
BRUSH: A Polar Flo 1/2 inch flat brush is my current favorite. The bristle were originally white but have become stained.
An inexpensive, Curry's brand, 3/8 and #6 brush.

How beautiful it is how the layers of darker tones give life to the painting! Lovely work!
I am a true beginner with watercolors and painted this. These bright blue wildflowers grow prolifically all along my country road and I just love them. I was thrilled that even a rank amateur like me could produce my first watercolor painting of these flowers that got many compliments. Thanks Peter!
Lovely. I like to watch your videos for inspiration as well as tuition.
Thank you very much Claudia. Always nice to hear I've inspired :)
Only an artist would spot this dainty little beauty in the grass while riding by. There are many that would miss it ☺ Delightful!
Great comment Rachel! Thank you :)
Chicorys are always the stars of the show for me when it becomes spring. A truly marvelous little plant.

The Beauty of flowers are beautifully highlighted
Charming Chickory .One of nature’s treasures. The colour is alluring.Connecting the image to the frame is an interesting technique. The often unfinished jagged broken lines invite the eye to finish it.Nice.
Great comments and observations Linda. Thanks :)

Next to Trillium and Queen Ann Lace one of my favorite wild flowers. I did try making coffee once from the dried roots...not great, but in a pinch it works. Great job as always!
Yes, I'd rather paint it than drink it ;)
So beautifully painted!
I had a go at doing this one Peter-thankyou.
Good to hear Libby. Thanks
Just beautiful, Peter.
Thank you as always A. Peter :)
thank you for this lovely video .
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching :)
Love love love it
Is this recording in real time or is it edited together? The reason I ask is because I wanted to know if you let the layers dry in between or do you just keep working until u r finished? I am a HUGE fan of your work. So glad to have found you here. Thanks for teaching us so beautifully!!!
Great tutorial
Also living close to MI have you ever had the privilege of seeing wild Lady's Slippers or Jack in the Pulpit? I miss them so much! I always felt it was like a gift when I got to see a Slipper.
Yes, I do see them in a local park here.
This was so beautiful. Thank you.
Very kind words. Thank you very much. Peter :)
So pretty!! It sure look so easy when you paint! But I know it won't be as easy for me lol Thanks for sharing Peter!
Thanks Mona! Glad you're still with me :)
Of course I am Peter!! :) We are having an extreme heatwave in Sweden this summer and I got no AC lol so I have been pretty drained! Starting to get a little better now! :)
Me encantan las flores. Gracias.
Muchas gracias. Me alegro de que te haya gustado :)
bonsoir Peter, tres belle aquarelle , sur les fleurs, elles sont magnifiques, !!! j adoreeeeee! !!!!
Merci beaucoup. Toujours agréable à entendre :)
this is so beautiful and relaxing to watch 😍💕💕💕
Thank you very much. So glad you enjoyed it :)
It's beautiful. I somehow feel the blue on the flower is not ultramarine. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much. It is, but my camera may not capture its true hue.
@@PeterSheelerart I think the video picture is great. Sorry, I didn't explain. I saw your palette so when I mixed ultramarine with a tiny thalo it became like that lighter shade of blue in your first layer...I like that colour! I can definitely see the ultramarine in the next layers you added. Thank you so much.
It's really beautiful. You paint very beautifully and l really like your technique. Nice weekend.
Vesna Stimac yes I agree🎨🎨
Thank you very much Vesna! A nice weekend to you as well :)
Thank you very much Chrissy! :)

Love your little guy in your profile pic❤️
Great painting. The colors are really pretty. You make it look so easy. This is good for a beginner like me. How long have you been a watercolor artist. I am anxious to begin watercolor. Dana
Thanks again Dana. About 30 years on and off.
Grazie!
Molto brava!
Thank you!😊
Its a lovely painting. Thank you for sharing. Coffee with Chicory is avaliable made in India Brand Name BRU and Nestle.
My favorite color!
Thank you very much. So glad you enjoyed it :)
I like this
Very Nice and sweet !
Thank you very much Claudie! :)
Thank you! It would be better if you put the photo by the side while you are drawing so that we can know where and how you recreate the image. :)
I rarely use photos. If I use a reference photo it will usually be included at the start of the video in which case can I suggest you take a screen shot of the reference.
Hi Peter, this is so simple and beautiful. I'm getting into pen and wash more. I see you always draw without directly on your watercolor paper. Do you plan out your painting before hand? You don't usually show a reference photo. I need to but would like to learn not to. Debbie
Superbe beaucoup de finesse bravo
Merci beaucoup. Très appréciée :)
Very good!
Thank you very much Randy! :)
Thank you for sharing. Love it! Can you do demonstration video on how to paint Bluebonnet flowers please.
Thank you very much! We'll see :)
Siz nasıl bir kralsınız ya 💕
Çok teşekkür ederim! :)
Lovely!
I don't understand it, Peter. When I try to paint like you've done the green in this pic, I get a hard outline when the paint dries. When yours dries, the edges of your brushstrokes are the same even tone. Am I using too much water? Is it the paper?
Yes, too much water. This is something you will begin to understand over time. Stick with it :)
...oddly satisfying... 😁
LOL... Thank you very much! :)
Coincidentally, I just started a project to find & get the names of my state's wildflowers (for years I've seen the Chicory growing on the side of the roads) this was the first I photographed & started to draw after I identified it through the INaturalist app on my phone & computer.
Hi Larry. It is a very Paintable flower and a favorite of mine.
@@PeterSheelerart And now it's mine as well
Interesting that it is a native plant both sides of the 'pond', must have been brought to one or the other via some boat trips.
nice!!!
Thank you very much Momchil! :)
Awesome 👏
Avisad Ray ,hi, if you like please have a look on my channel
Thank you very much! :)
lovely, thank you!
